As the old world rots away, new life is taking shape in Seattle. Gangs have formed, boundaries are drawn, and the laws of the wild are being written in blood on the streets everyday. The most holy of them all is this:
Never betray your family.
It’s easier said than done. New threats are rising with the zombies and the peace the survivors have struggled to build is crumbling around them. A war is on the horizon. It calls them to action, whether they want to hear it or not.
Alliances will be questioned. Bonds will be broken. Warriors will rise.
The second book and it just, like the other books, picks up where we left the last time. Time to cry!
Sadly, I have to say that this wasn't as good as the previous book. Why? Because the stories now mesh together, and sorry, we have already seen parts in the Joss books. Conversations are just copy-pasted in here, things that happened come back (sure, from another POV, but that doesn't make it more exciting). Chapter Thirteen is when Trent's POV shows us how Ryan met Joss. Yes, same conversations, same stuff, just from Trent's POV. When Vin meets Joss, again, same stuff. I just started to skip conversations and parts that I knew from the previous books. Maybe if I hadn't binge-read these books in one go, but with only 2 days between them... eh, no thank you. That is also the reason why it took me a bit longer to read. I started reading a few percentage on Thursday evening, some more percentage on Friday, and then the last drops today.
There were also various spelling/grammar errors. I noticed them before in the other books, but they seemed to have multiplied in this book.
But there was also good about this book. We could finally see Vin's POV from the Colony and see how he is wooing the crowd. He sure is a charmer. He definitely was my favourite character in this book.
Also on Kevin, oh boy, that broke my heart. I knew he died because of a wolf (as was said in the Joss books), however I hadn't expected the death to be that way. OMG. I was already wondering how a seasoned zombie killer guy couldn't win against a wolf, but this explains a whole lot.
We already knew bits and pieces of what happened at the MOHAI (the first time it was emptied out due to Risen), but the real story behind it had me gasping in shock. Oh no they freaking didn't? How could they do that? To people? Innocents? *shakes her head in shock*
The baby stuff is also mentioned, you know when they found out that there was a whole baby market? Finally we could see a bit deeper into it, and sorry, but I just have to applaud for Vin and what he did for the girls, for the babies. That is an absolutely awesome idea, and while it doesn't lessen the pain for the girls, or Vin (he can deny all he wants, but I know he felt crap about having to give the babies away), 100%, it does make them happy knowing they can find their babies in a way. Though I don't want to know how they ever gotten that on a baby (or how much noise the kid made).
Plus, even if it was a bit the same, I still loved seeing Trent when Ryan and Joss met up. So he was watching. Always caring about Ryan, and now also caring about the girl, aka Joss. I do like the decision he made, a choice that was pretty hard for him, but a choice that had to be made. Ryan needs to go his own, find love, find happiness.
Again *fans herself and swoons* that cover! It is just way way too hot.
I am, just like with the other book, still curious as to what is so explicit about this one that warrants two versions? There was some gore and violence, but it wasn't like overly graphic or a lot. Just stuff that you can expect from a zombie book (and living in a gang). I am kind of curious to find out what was changed, because I frankly can't imagine what they would change.
But will I read the next book, ummm, I am unsure. Where Vin's POV will definitely be holding material I want to read (his time waiting for Joss to come back, and also the battle and hopefully seeing him settle down with his flock), I am not sure if I want to read Trent's. He is in Ryan/Joss' team and I know for sure that there will be a lot of repetition.
We will see, the book is set to be released this year, so maybe I will just hold it off for a bit longer until I have forgotten most of the details. :P
I think that Tracey Ward has successfully written two of my most favorite characters, EVER with this series! I love Vin and Trent! And they totally make this series worth while! And they always leave me wanting more!
The world that Tracey has built around all of her character here is one that you can find yourself falling deeper into as the story moves along. And that is what I love most about this series. It is so easy to connect with each of the characters, but moreover, the world that she builds is dark, scary and wonderful. She shows that even in the midst of a fallen world there can still be some sort of hope, and love!
I love that in this book we get a deeper look into who Vin and Trent truly are, I think you get to know them on a much more personal level in Weapons, and that only serves to make this series one of my most favorites! I love how, yes, this is built in a zombie ridden world. But it isn't more about the zombies that are living around them. This series gives you a real hard look into the LIVES of the people who are now left to pick up the pieces and find a way to survive within in. Even if their way of living and surviving is often times much more corrupt than how they were living before!
I honestly could read and read and read about this world! I love it!! The only complaint I have is that I have to wait for the next one in the series!!!
I love a series that I can really lose myself in, one where I end up reading into the early hours of the morning, sacrificing sleep, and fooling myself with ‘just one more chapter.’ Well, Weapons of War ticked all the right boxes for me. I was really looking forward to the second book in the Rising series. I got so much more of Vin and Trent, and I really got to see them come into their own. I can honestly say I’m undecided on whose story I enjoyed more. One minute I’m enraptured by Trent, then the next chapter switches to Vin, and I’m right there with Vin again.
One of Tracey Ward’s many talents is her ability to write such captivating support characters. There is a lot going on in this story as each gang fights for supremacy and the battle to stay alive in this post-apocalyptic world. Kevin, Ryan and Joss all play important roles in helping Vin and Trent’s stories unfold, yet I was able to feel each of their voices and became invested in each journey. I love the unexpected in good story-telling and with Weapons of War, there are lots of surprises. I guess that’s one of the reasons why I chose to sacrifice sleep! Hopefully book #3 isn’t too far away, because after that ending, I want more!
I love this series and seeing life after the apocalypse through the eyes of badass Trent and charming con man Vin. It was kind of a surprise that Vin isn't as big of a jerk as we thought and Trent... OMG he's human and so sweet even though he doesn't show it.
Trent, Trent, Trent! I know everyone likes Vin and I do too, but Trent has always been my pick of the 2. He's so weird and he knows it!
ATTENTION ATTENTION spoilers for the Survival series ahead.
I really wish I had went back and read the Survival series and Gods of the Dead before delving into this. While not nessary it would've made it better, since this is when the stories start overlapping. But it was great seeing everything go down from Vin and Trents eyes. Plus I finally know the whole story about what happened to Kevin and Ryan's pursuit of that wolf. It was so much worse than I imagined. We see how Vin became the stable master and how he is doing his thing in the colony, not to mention how he actually ended up there. We learn why Trent sticks to Ryan's side so loyally. Not to mention all the ways he learned the stuff he knew. Plus there just seemed to be so much more Trent in the book than the previous one. Although I could just be bias lol. While I always knew these 2 had more of a heart than they let on, being inside their heads makes it so much more clearer. This book just continues to make this my favorite story world.
My only complaint is that it felt too short. Vin & Trey are very interesting characters, and learning about this world from their perspectives is awesome. If you haven’t read the companion series, you should. If you have, you know what happens next, just from Joss’s perspective instead.
This continues to be one of my favorite series. I love getting into Trent and Vin's heads and reading this story through their point of view. All of the characters are so complex and Tracey does a great job of making you feel each one of them.
If you start with Rising, make sure to read the other books in this series! You won't be disappointed!
I’m really enjoying reading Vin and Trents side. This book went way tok quickly though - did I really finish it in a day? 😳 I went searching for book 3 and couldn’t find it on Amazon. I hope it’s coming. Even though I know what happens in the end, I need to know it from this perspective.
Love the continuation of Vin and Trent’s stories as they cross over into Ryan and Joss’ stories. Says the 3rd is coming in 2018.... so I’m off to see if that ever happened?
I do love this universe. I am missing the third book of the rising series. This book said the third and final one would be out end of 2018, so I suppose I got some searching to do.
Tracey Ward and her Survival/Quarantined/Rising series NEVER disappoints! The Survival series was my first jump into the Zombie genre, and I have been hooked ever since. The fact it takes place in my city is just an added bonus. She has this fantastic ability to make you almost forget about the zombies and you simply fall in love with these strong, resilient characters. I will say I think I liked Rising 1, Gods of the Dead a little more than Weapons of War as it gave us such a deep look into how these complex men turned into the powerhouse characters they are in the Survival series, this book is still a great installment in the ongoing journey of Trent and Vin. Sometimes reading a book that follows a plot you have already read from another perspective can be repetitive, but Tracey really allows it to be it's own story. We get a new glimpse at these monumental events that shape this insane new world for our favorite characters. Seeing Joss and Ryan's meeting through Trent's eyes gave me goosebumps. He is such an interesting character and I loved experiencing that scene through his point of view.
The one thing I will say is that I wish I had re-read Survival and Rising 1 before jumping into Weapons of War. It's been a long time since I read them, and while they are phenomenal, and I remember them with detail, some names and back history was hard to pull to the front of my memory. This series and the spin-offs will forever be a favorite of mine.
