I feel the need to start this book review by saying that all of these books are wonderful, adventurous, yet charming and I would not be a good reviewer if I did not say consider going back and listen to the first 3 books in this series before this one. Extend the enjoyment.

This book has less focus on Michelle's police work but that doesn't mean that there is one iota less adventure. N.E. Conneely has packed this story with surprises galore. This wonderful book is an adventure from start to finish.

The narration by  Jeff Hays and  Laurie Catherine Winkel is wonderfully expressive and the characters that they play throughout this book are believable and so well represented. They put the perfect amount of emotion and personality into the characterization. The sound quality is outstanding and the volume level is consistent throughout.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Jeff Hays. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

A Witch's Concern by N.E. Conneely is a refreshing and highly entertaining read, revolving around a young witch and her adventures.

I loved this book; the plot was unique, the characters and their conflicts felt real and the sub-plots were very interesting. I enjoyed listening to the story from start till the end, and even though this is the 4th book in A With's Path series, I didn't have any trouble getting into it. So this book can safely be read as a stand alone as well, but I am considering reading all the previous parts before going for the next ones.

The characterization was good, if not brilliant, and even though I wasn't able to connect to the main lead, Michelle, in a very strong way, I liked her quite a lot and that was enough for me to read about her and her adventures (or misadventures.) Elron's character felt a bit shaky initially but by the end of the book, he proved to be a strong male lead.

The narration was good for the most part. It took me some time to get into Elron's (Jeff Hays) narration, though I did love the female lead's narration a lot! Lauri's voice and expressions were really good and made listening to this audiobook a very pleasant experience.

I'd recommend this book to all the paranormal and supernatural lovers, along with those who love reading about witches, elves and magic.

I'm so conflicted and sorry about putting this to a 3 star versus a 4. I really enjoyed the clan issues, the war, and the overall story so far in the series, but it was just so rushed that it really undermined it all. The dialogue wasn't as poorly executed as the 3rd book but it was still a bit too awkward. I think because things were just being forced to hurry along.

You can definitely feel the excitement going on (both in the story and the author's enthusiasm), but there is a line to where such a thing is either an asset or a fault. And with this book (and especially the 3rd book), that "rush" really hurt the series.

I hope that things smooth out better and are allowed to really gain depth in future books because I really want to continue this series for the long run. I adore the setting and the characters and would hate to lose interest in it.

Reviewed on Behalf of http://bookaddict.live,
We start with Michelle on the way to her parents wedding when she gets a puncture, when a car stops Michelle realises this was trap, and realises she has been kidnapped by witches from her mother’s former coven.
Michelle has grown up without a coven, and she wants stay Clan less. Elron and Michelle’s relationship grows slow and steady. This is about her parents and her grandmothers, and one of her grandmother Gretchen is determined to have Michelle in her Coven.
This book  is  about family, and the lengths some go to get their own way. This is more about love from a family Michelle had never met on her father side.
This is an excellent story, and we understand more about how destiny catches up Michelle whether she likes or not.
Great narration Jeff’s male voices were very distinctive and I knew who was speaking every time. Laurel is Michelle and conjures her personality exactly. This is my fourth  audiobook in the series and everyone feels like old friends ( not the baddies )

The series keeps getting better!

Michelle and Elron go from trouble to trouble while building their relationship. There isn't too much romance but enough to keep this reader happy! The conflict this time was more of a family affair and it was quite a showdown! There was plenty of detail and tons of action to satisfy any one!

Know any witches who would be willing to join the police force to keep back the evil and vile supernatural creatures from the light of day? What about any vampires, werewolves, unicorns, or trolls? This supernaturally charged fourth installment is highly entertaining, mysterious, and growing in paranormal suspense! Conneely has written a series, filled with humans and magical creatures who can both live simultaneously in the same place and still know who each other really is. That is very original and unlike the typical “keep it a secret from humankind”. In this fourth installment, the reader learns more about the history of clans and Michelle’s birthright in a long line of ministry bloodlines.

Michelle gets a flat tire and pulls off of the road to assess the damage. When she sees the complex nature of the flat, she knows that something is not right. Once another car pulls over to aide her, she not only doesn’t want their assistance, but she also suspects foul play. She was right. Previous claims against Michelle being clan-less has risen to a top priority for some people…including her grandmother, a clan minister of the Wapiti Clan. With Michelle’s power, any clan would be crazy not to want her on their side. Once desperation kicks in, things start to look ugly and danger begins to follow Michelle along with her family and friends. Can Michelle learn to always look behind her for the next attack or can she put things to rest for good?

Conneely has a superb story-line and wonderful character development in this fourth installment. The continuation flows perfectly from the previous installments. The characters are snarky, mysterious, humorous, and most importantly magically-inclined. The pace is very fast and provides a sense of thrill and urgency to the story, but not in a bad or harsh way. Since this was an audiobook that was provided, the flow of the story was terrific and the story seems to be well-written in order to flow as well as it does. Hays and Winkel are virtually impeccable with their dual audio relay talent. These narrators makes this story come to life, more so than imagery that the readers can come up with through description alone.

A copy of this book was provided to Turning Another Page by the Audiobookworm Promotions, but this in no way affects our honest opinion of the book or the review that has been written. We provide a five-star rating for A Witch’s Path by N.E. Conneely.

Note: This is Book 4 in the series and really works best if read as part of the series.

It was nice revisiting Michelle’s witchy detective world again. I was glad to see that Ty (her magical T-rex), her guardian lion statues, and the protective plants were all still part of the story, if only minorly. Elron, Michelle’s elvish boyfriend, is still in the picture. I was glad that he had a backseat for most of the story as I find his character rather boring in this series.

The main plot centers around Michelle’s lack of clan loyalty. For a while now, since she had to go public with her powers in strength, several clans have wanted her to join. Michelle wants to stay free as she has been all her life and she’s built her detective and consulting business on her own. A clan probably wouldn’t allow her to keep doing her business. But now the clans are getting aggressive and Michelle has to fight back.

As a side thing, Michelle’s parents have decided to finally tie the knot. Michelle’s mom has officially joined her dad’s clan and now they are free to marry. And this leads to one of the weak points of the story. I kept expecting Michelle’s dad’s clan to step in and protect him, his wife, and perhaps Michelle since this other clan is breaking some serious rules and actually harming people. But that never happened and I felt that needed to be addressed somehow.

So over all, the story was fun and kept me engaged throughout the tale. There’s a good balance between action and character development. Well, except for Elron. He’s still a wet blanket. He’s got this selfish sad streak where he feels responsible for everything that goes wrong in the life of whatever woman he’s with. I was glad that he had less page time in this tale. All together, 4/5 stars.

The Narration: For the first 3 books, we had a single narrator (Jeff Hays). Now we’ve added Laurie Catherine Winkel. Both did fine but because I was used to hearing Michelle performed by Hays (excellent performance by the way), it took some time to get used to her voice coming from Winkel. There were no technical issues with the recording. 4.75/5 stars.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW:

After listening to the first three books of the series, I was revved up to listen to this one.

I enjoy the multiple narrators and the ways they use their voices, even in so far as to create the feel of distance if dialog stretches from another room or longer distance.

Lots of talent went into telling Michelle’s story about an unclaimed witch, her special skill with ruins and spelling, her recent relationship with a elf who she jokes with as geriatric, being over 1500 years old. Michelle’s lifespan will be close to 300 years if she doesn’t die first by her amazing capability of being in the wrong place at the right time. Thank God, she is really lucky, has nature at her back and lots of supportive friends. She does live in a scary world where demons still roam, hidden so well, they aren’t apparent, and often wonders if her choices in how she deals with evil forces are the best. Will that get her killed?

Conneely’s world building is quite believable and very entertaining. Her talent to propel a story forward with plenty of suspense with twists of surprising character keeps me reading with eagerness.

Michelle and her relationship with her elf is a slow-burn, deep feeling relationship rather than a hot spicy chemistry-filled emotion. I enjoy Michelle’s desire to work alone, protect what is hers and do the right thing.

I look forward to continue both the book and listen.

A Witch’s Concern is the fourth book in Witch for Hire series. I’ve enjoyed all of the books in the series but A Witch’s Concern is my favorite so far.

Michelle continues to help police departments contain supernatural problems. She’s also come across a couple on her own, such as a biting teacup. As more and more things occur wherever she is, she realizes that some of it may be because of her grandmother who is insistent that Michelle join her clan.

There’s a lot of action in A Witch’s Concern and it all includes a lot of magic. Michelle seems to be getting stronger, possibly because she’s had to deal with so many attacks.

I like how Michelle’s relationships have progressed, especially the one with Elron. The only person she can’t get along with is her grandmother because Michelle won’t bend to her will.

The characters are unusual and diverse. You never know who or what is going to show up, whether it’s a human, an elf, a werewolf, a brownie…I could go on. It’s such and interesting world!

The narrators did a great job. I like having a male and female narrator because it makes it a lot easier to differentiate who is speaking, although Jeff Hays did an amazing job in the first three books doing both male and female voices.

I definitely recommend A Witch’s Concern and though it does stand on its own, it is an even better read if the books are read in order. I’m looking forward to listening to or reading the next book in the series.

I loved the first set of audiobooks in this series and this one doesn't disappoint at all! This audiobook starts with a bang with Michelle's kidnapping and stays intense throughout the whole novel.

Michelle is an independent, strong witch who feels no alliance to any clan and wants to keep it that way. Her Grandmother feels differently. I love that we were able to learn quite a bit more about her family history and the line of strong female witches in her family. Her Grandmother does not want to see this line end and goes to extreme measures to get Michelle to consent to her wishes, almost shocking at times!

I have always loved Michelle's character throughout the first set of books and in this book she still remains my favourite. She has such a kind heart and just wants to do what is right and help others but she just can't get a break. I loved that the focus of this book is her - no extra big case, just Michelle. Her character deserves it, she is just one of those individuals that gives of herself with no expectation of something in return. Her relationship with Elron is blossoming (yay!), they both deserve a loving relationship and not to mention some time to work on it.

The narration in this audiobook is excellent and adds to the drama and flair of the writing. I couldn't stop listening as I just wanted to hear what was going to happen next with her. The plot is fantastic and keeps you on the edge of your seat. This is by far my favourite book in this amazing series. This series constantly leaves you guessing on who or what will show up and happen and leaves you wanting more.

Now that the demon has been defeated and all the clan invitations have slowed down, Michelle is hoping to get back to her normal life but that’s not happening.
On the way to her parents wedding, she is forced to pull over with a flat tire. That’s when she gets kidnapped!
Waking up in the Wapiti clan house, trapped in a small room, unable to do any magic her options are limited. On a trip to the bathroom, Michelle manages to break free of the magic nulling handcuffs but keeps that secret. She has to face her grandmother, Gretchen, trying to force her to join the clan. Despite constantly saying no, her grandmother is not giving up.
Managing to escape through a surprise attack with her magic, she flees through the manor grounds and is rescued by Elron. Going to the police to level kidnapping charges, the hope is that this will be the end of problems
Even though the police manage to arrest Gretchen and some of her allies, the danger is not over.
This book is basically about Michelle trying to stay clan free, the battle with her grandmothers’ clan, infighting in the clan and more.
There is some action, a lot of magic, interesting characters, suspense, surprises and the growing relationship of Michelle, Elron and her family. The clan story is not finished but is growing in different directions.
This was an interesting book and leaves so many possibilities for the future stories.

The first three books in the series were quite a ride, and I'm happy to see this one stand on its own. It starts out with quite the predicament with Michelle's kidnapping and doesn't hold the punches with her crazy and dangerous life.

While the main villain in the first 3 book story arc was a scary and malicious demon, this book's villain was none other than dear old Grandma wanting Michelle to join her clan. Yep, she is still on that rampage from the earlier books. Except here she has gone to horrific lengths to get her point across.

But I gotta say, it was nice to have a bit of redemption in the end, and a positive, outcome, though not at all what Michelle was wanting at the start.

I must also add, the changes in narration style fit the book wonderfully. I liked that there were two narrators switching off the roles, it made Michelle more relatable to have a female voice.

Overall, another great installment of this series and a fun audio.

entertaining paranormal urban fantasy adventure series

This is an entertaining paranormal urban fantasy adventure series. Great castle characters and an entertaining storyline. Michelle is a witch who was raised outside of the witch clans. Which clans are a group of witches that in this magical world all witches belong to a different clan. Her mother was expelled from her grandmother‘s clan because her grandmother did not believe her mother was powerful enough and disappointed her. However Michelle is a very powerful and special witch and is marked as part of a prophecy possibly. Not only does Michelle have to do her work helping the police do with paranormal issues in this world were humans and paranormal all live together. Recently defeating a demon which hasn’t been done in centuries. Now she must battle against her grandmother trying to make her join her clan. Michelle is independent and does not want to join any clan. a number of forces are trying to make her join their clans and she must fight against them and still be able to do her job and live her life. And see what happens in this chapter of her story.

This book felt to be a little different in the story line. We follow Michelle and the troubles that find her, bringing her to make some tough choices. We don't get a case she's working on, though there are small items that come up she tends to. This is mostly Michelle learning about herself and growing. The story still has the same action and full of spell being thrown around, but it's about Michelle this time and not just helping others.

There are more books in the series with Michelle. I'm looking forward to them as there are hints of what's to come in this book... what's next in Michelle's life, demons, and more I'm sure.

Audiobook Review

I have to say this installment is my favorite. First off, can poor Michelle just have a moment to breath and enjoy her new relationship with Elron? The answer is NO! A Witch's Concern is non stop action from page one. The drama. The Grandmother. The kidnapping. OH MY! I LOVED IT. The author has created quite a fun and intriguing series.

There were two narrators; Jeff Hays and Laurie Catherine Winkel. Both did a phenomenal job bringing the story to life. The danger. The destruction. The violence. It all sprang from my speakers. I didn't want to get out the car, lol.

A Witch's Concern (4)

Things are really hotting up now. May I say, you need to read the previous 3 books, in fact it's a continuing story, so in truth all six books I'd say. May I also add based on the first three, its worth buying. It isn't the lightweight with a bit of ooww and ahhh I was expecting. This is about full blown witch's and demons, some creatures out of mythology, but its a well written and compelling series. Even has a bit of romance thrown in, real romance that makes you go ahh, not too much though

With the successful banishment of a demon.
Gretchen has decided that Michelle WILL join her coven and she won't take no for an answer.
After several attacks, Gretchen takes Michelle's mother and father who are off on their honeymoon.
This is the last straw for Michelle, and she goes to free her parents.
A massive battle breaks out within the coven and Gretchen tries to force Michelle's admittance to the coven without Michelle's agreement causing an interesting reaction, and one that is very uncommon as well as unusual.

Developed characters, lots of action, and a solid plotline.

Clanless no more

Michelle has been a clanless witch since she was born. She prefers to be clanless as opposed to possibly being controlled by a clan. When clans begin wooing her to join their clan, she discards the invite. Unfortunately, her maternal grandmother will not take no for an answer. Her grandmother had Michelle kidnapped, she escaped. Then she kidnapped Michelle's parents and threatened their death. When Michelle and Elron rush to save them and stop her grandmother, spells fly in every direction. Who will win?

I wanted to love these books, I really did. Michelle is intelligent, a powerful witch, and a good person...however, she is too easily manipulated by nearly everyone. She never steps up for herself. She always knuckles under and does what everyone else but HER wants her to do. She won't even go after Grama Hag, until AFTER said Hag does in fact do exactly what she said repeatedly she'd do, because she wasn't promptly dealt with in the first place. It's just too damn annoying to go on.

Unnecessary drama and tiring

2.5

It could be a general 3 star rating because of how it was, but it's my review, and this is where I stop reading the series. There is an issue I can't name. She loathes someone and then mourns them. She's so fickle and I don't get it.

Unnecessary drama, Michelle lets it all continue until things get real, and then either cries about it or over extends herself. It's no longer fun or enjoyable.

Better and better

4th book in the series and it just keeps getting better and better. Michelle has to deal with increased pressure from the Wapiti clan to join their ranks and they aren't nice about it. The clan is headed by Michelle's estranged grandmother who uses any means to get what she wants. Not as much focus on the romance between Michelle and Elron but enough that we see they are still progressing. This story was full of so much action and suspense. Loving this series and can't wait to see what Michelle and Elron get into next.

In this book, the relatively weak character building on all but the main characters became a serious flaw. I simply couldn't comprehend Gretchen or most members of her clan, and as that was the major conflict, I didn't care about the plot nearly so much. The motivations of several other characters including her parents and Tiffany have never made much sense to me, but again, that was a bit more problematic in this installment.

magic, clan wars, friendships

How can Michelle deal with all the trouble that comes her way? Book one makes Michelle seem like a lone wolf but she has more people in her corner than she realizes. When the witch clans come for her, and the ones she loves, she finds strength in those who stand by her. Lots of drama, pain, and unknown going on but it makes it such a great read.

Things get simpler and a lot more complicated

I enjoyed bouncing from one near disaster to the next. A whole lot of witches battling. I do wish the MC's would get going on their slow moving romance. I'm fired up for the next book (and the audio books).

Still a decent series!

Good pacing, decent plot, interesting characters, and clean writing ( I only saw one error. ) I still hate Elron the elf’s name, and I wish they would stop talking about how old he is. Recommended!

Fight, fight, fight. Fight for

Michelle's grandmother is still on the war path to get Michelle In the Wapati clan. She sets up problems for her to get called out to, creates turmoil in her personal life, then crosses the line. The results are very. . . unexpected.
