Once upon a time in a faraway land, I was a law student. I loved congressional and Lincoln-Douglas debates and I craved politics. Though that’s far from who I am today, this story touched and awakened that part of me I thought was gone. Nothing impresses me more than a book combining both intellect and emotion, and that is exactly what this book has done.

But first, have you read the other three Thompson Sisters books? No? Here.

A Song for Julia (Thompson Sisters, #1) by Charles Sheehan-Miles Just Remember to Breathe (Thompson Sisters, #2) by Charles Sheehan-Miles The Last Hour (Thompson Sisters, #3) by Charles Sheehan-Miles

If you want the best reading experience possible, I suggest you read those before starting this book.

If you have read them, then I’m going to warn you that this book is different from the other three. Romance isn’t the fundamental element that drives the story. It’s the political intrigue, mystery, and action that steal the show.

description

Andrea is the youngest of the Thompson sisters and the one we know least about. In this book, we find that she’s a strong, witty, and independent sixteen year old who has lived in Spain for most of her life. Why was she separated from her family and sent away? Don’t stress. All will be answered here.

With Andrea’s homecoming and ‘Rachel’s Peril’ sparks a revolutionary sequence of events that unfold. Puzzle pieces all around the globe start to pop up and at times I wondered how the heck everything was related to each other. All these different people, near and far but intricately connected to the same case, slowly start to converge. I’d start to make connections and guess at who was who and if they were enemy or friend. But just when I thought I nailed the culprit...

description

Nope. This story kept me on my toes from the very beginning to the very end. It ends on an expected cliffhanger so I’m not too worried about that part. Many questions are answered here but a lot of problems remain unsolved. One thing’s for certain: I am very interested in the direction Charles will take this story in. There are literally so many paths the next book could go in.

What do I think?
I didn't know what to think when I first started reading ...as each page flipped on my Kindle - I loved the story more and more!
This had the mystery of a thriller in it. The knit of a family. The words of a master.

You must read his Thompson Sisters Series before this book.

I can not wait for the next book.
Or I can not wait to meet him in 2014.
Well regardless - big time fan girl!

If you had asked me a week ago whether I could possibly love a book with almost no romantic thread in it, I would have said it was impossible. So many books in the past have failed to hold my interest due to a weak or non-existent romantic storyline, and had I known prior to starting this book that this was not a love story, I would have probably refused to read it. And what a colossal mistake that would have been! This is by far one of the best written and most engaging stories I have had the pleasure of reading this year and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is seeking a book that will own you cover to cover, a book that is so mind-blowingly unique in its delivery, plotline, pace, attention to detail, a book that will leave you reflecting on its storyline long after you’ve read the last page.

From the moment the story started, I felt like I was in a high speed car chase, with no seatbelt on, a heart-stopping surprise at every turn, but at no point did I lose faith in the author to get me safely to the finish line. Every piece of the puzzle is skillfully executed, nothing is fortuitous and everything has its place in one of the most intricate storylines I’ve ever come across. We are following so many characters, hearing so many voices and yet, it all somehow fits together, completing a spiderweb of subplots that eventually gives us a glimpse of the complete picture.

“Had they been watching out for her all along, and she just didn’t know?”

It all begins with a little baby in need of a bone marrow donor and all the Thompson sisters being potential matches. The youngest of them, Andrea, is called to return to the States from her new home in Spain to be tested as a donor, but her return suddenly turns into an abduction, her escape from her kidnappers starting an avalanche of events, the least expected of them being the way it brings the Thompson sisters closer together and how their collective childhood memories start piecing together a family picture that has always been incomplete and confusing to them individually. The story focuses on the unwavering bonds between the six Thompson siblings, despite a very unconventional upbringing, or the lack of parental love and support they all so desperately craved to have. As we hear their voices, we quickly realize that they all had very different experiences and perceptions of their mother Adelina, a woman who comes across as being unpredictable, unemotional and reserved, but whose own life story leaves us breathless and almost incredulous that a woman with such a horrid past could raise six loving and compassionate young women such as her daughters.

There is nothing more I can reveal in a review that would not spoil this captivating storyline, as every major discovery the sisters make or realization they come to is a crucial part of the overall plotline. I will, however, say that there is nothing predictable about it all, the author being such a tremendous storyteller that every major twist hits us unexpectedly, but right in the bullseye. And even though this book is action-packed to the rim, the unbreakable sisterhood ties between these young women are the ones pushing the story forward and making us so completely invested in the wellbeing of these characters. This is a story that will touch you deeply and leave you somewhat baffled by how an “anti-romance” could possibly leave you feeling so emotionally fulfilled and satisfied. An absolute gem of a book, and I am already desperately craving for the sequel.

“Always, Adelina. Always.”

Holy Shitballs this book was amazing. After being gutted by The Last Hour I had to find out more with this family.

This book starts off with the youngest sister Andrea making her way back to the US to get tested for a chance to be a bone marrow match for Carrie and Ray's daughter Rachel.

As soon as she lands on US soil all hell breaks loose and she gets kidnapped and then the world as the Thompson girls know it gets blown wide open.

All the lies and secrets is astonishing. Charles Sheehan-Miles is a mastermind how he keep all of this tangled web straight and keeps you roped in and on the edge waiting for all the secrets to come out.

I can NOT believe how much of a clusterfuck the poor Thompson girl's lives are right now. Right now I'm on a I think I know what is coming but honestly I don't have a hot clue because there are so many twists and turns that I am left waiting... because it is left with a bloody cliffhanger.

So many elements left unturned and I NEED to know what is going to happen with everything. I can NOT wait for book number 2.

Well....wasn't expecting all of that!!! I was again pleasantly surprised with a book by Mr. Sheehan-Miles. I have read all of the Thompson sisters novels thus far and quickly fallen in love with their stories. Carrie's story was my favorite even with the way my heart broke. I enjoyed reconnecting with so many of the characters from the previous books, but will say that the story is at times complicated with the many new characters and political/war information introduced. I was missing the "love story" element in this book, but still enjoyed the mystery/thriller component. I usually read romance and have always enjoyed the love story with substance of the Thompson sister novels. Some characters have partially redeemed themselves for the actions in prior books, but more questions were raised of others. This is another great novel and I will anxiously be waiting for the story to continue, considering it ended the way it did!!!!

HOLY MOLY!!!! I don't even know where to start with this review. I have so many things going through my head right now, I don't know how to express them without completely ruining the whole book. This will probably be a very vague review because anything I want to say would be a spoiler for the story. And I don't do spoilers!!!! I will say that I am a huge fan of the Thompson Sisters series by Charles Sheehan-Miles. I have loved all the books so far, so I was even more excited to see that a spin off series was being written. Girl of Lies is the first book in this new spin off, I didn't know what to expect from this book. Well let me tell you I couldn't have predicted this book for anything. This whole book/story was a complete surprise. I don't mean that in a bad way either. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I will say it was different from the other books in the Thompson Sisters series, but in a good way.

I do believe that if you have read the other series, then you really need to read this story also. I truly thought that this story was going to be primarily about Andrea, well in a way it was but we do see all of the other characters as well. We get multiple POV's in this story. I did find it slightly confusing and had to keep checking the cast of characters list for awhile to remember who was who. And I don't mean the Thompson characters. You will meet so many other people in this story. This story takes off where The Last Hour ended. It is a continuation of some sorts of that book, but yet a completely separate story. I will say that I believe that even though this could be read as a stand alone series, you really should read the Thompson Sisters books first so that you have the background on this family and the sisters. Plus this book will be a spoiler for those books. One thing I loved about this story was that it truly showed you what family really means. Even though these sisters/family have all kind of gone their own ways, this story shows how they all come together when they need to. They are willing to protect and defend each other at whatever means necessary. This book was filled with so many twists and turns, that it was kind hard to keep up with everything after awhile. But this book will definitely keep you on your toes!!!!! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough on my kindle because I had to know what was going to happen. I have to say that I am dying to know what happens in the next book. I can't wait to read it!!!!

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Charles' books. The writing was wonderful and this story was well crafted and executed. I will say that this book isn't like his others in that it is not a romantic love story. This book is truly a suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing even after the last page is done.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I want to write a review that does this book justice, but I need to gather my thoughts....

First, let me say that I have read ALL the Thompson Sisters books. I am a huge fan and was eagerly awaiting this one. Girl of Lies is a continuation of the Thompson Sister's stories. I highly recommend you read the others before this one (at the least, read The Last Hour)

This book picks up about 8 months or so after The Last Hour. This book, and I imagine the subsequent ones in this series, have all the family members. BUT this book is a different tone and direction from the others.

If you read The Last Hour, you know that it was an intense story. Girl of Lies, goes far, far beyond that! Here we see the family in crisis. All of them are still reeling from the events in The Last Hour when even more traumatic events occur.

The story unfolds from multiple POVs (which at times can be challenging - but, I found it integral to the overall story)

The tag line of this book "When a family is built on lies, one crisis can destroy it all", really sums up the book! I cant get into specifics without spoilers, but WOW! there are lies and secrets in this book

If you wondered what was up with the mom? or why andrea was in spain? WHat was up with their dad? you are going to get some answers

The books ends on one hell of a cliffhanger (but I had a feeling it would) and honestly, there was NO WAY I was waiting to read this one.

Girl of Lies was a crazy twist jam packed with action and mystery. Charles Sheehan-Miles is a brilliant writer who weaves an intricate tale that will leave you saying OMG what did I just read and wishing that he would write the next book as quickly as possible. It is THAT GOOD!

It is part of the Thompson sister's series, so definitely grab those before you read this one. This story centers around Andrea, the youngest of the Thompson sisters. She lives in Spain with her grandmother who is raising her. She travels to the US to help her sister. Things spiral out of control before she even arrives. Your mind will be BLOWN. Secrets are exposed, lies are told, there are to many HOLY CRAP moments that you will feel like a detective trying to figure it all out.

There are a lot of characters, so many twists and to say Charles wrote a heart stopping story would be an understatement. He is a genius!!!

This book is so different from the others--not a love story, but you know that he always seems to throw it in there somehow. The end does have a cliffhanger that will leave you breathless, but in a way that will make you desperate for the next book.

Charles is a master storyteller. You do not want to miss this book and you will be sucked in with suspense, mind twisting moments. I can't wait for the next book! Phenomenal!!!

I absolutely love all of Charles Sheehan-Miles books. I received and ARC of Girl of Lies and I cannot rave about it enough. The story was great and it was a real page turner - cannot wait for part 2. I'm not one to leave reviews with spoilers mainly because I hate writing but I do love reading and I will say that all the Thompson sisters are featured in this story and you will not regret buying/reading this book.

AHHHHH!! This book is amazing! God I love you Charles!!! It's so much different from the previous 4 Thompson Sisters stories. There is no romance here, it was pure action, political and suspense. And I love every second of it! Everytime a question was answered another two emerges! I can't wait to unearth everything.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Let me start off my saying that I had the PRIVILEGE of being a BETA reader for this novel. And what a privilege it was! To witness a story unfolding almost from conception is an experience like none other and one I will always cherish. My little book loving heart is happy.

How do you explain to a stranger the hurts and rejections that you can barely even admit to yourself?

I’ve been a fan of Charles since reading Just Remember to Breathe back in April. I read one, then the next one, then the next one, then the waiting game. Itching for any mere morsel from the Thompson Family. You see, you don’t merely read the Thompson family’s stories, you LIVE them. You experience them. You pack up all your belongings and move in with them. I read almost a book a day, and for a story to stick with me this many months later is rare. Not only rare but the sign of a phenomenally talented author who weaves tales with such layers and intricacies. There is a depth that comes with his stories that rocks you to your core. He is one of my go-to authors because like a fine wine, his books simply keep getting better. There are no fillers, no dull moments, never a time where you wish the book would just be over already. You are taken on a journey and left searching your soul for answers to questions you never knew you had. His books make you think, they are filled with angst, soul-shattering heartbreak, and endings that while not typical, perfect nonetheless (no matter how much grief we give him for The Last Hour). Charles writes with a purpose, an end-goal, and any tidbit of information you find, you can be certain it’s there for a reason.

She knew right then that Dylan Paris wasn’t going to be healed in an hour or a day or a week or a year-this was going to be a lifetime effort.

Girl of Lies is a slight departure from what readers will be used to with his other Thompson Sisters books. Have no fear though. He writes so flawlessly that you won’t even mind the slight disappearance of romance. While there are still romantic undertones, this is largely a suspense novel. The perfect mingling of John Grisham and Melissa Brown, Girl of Lies dives into action within the first few pages. There is absolutely NO leeway, no easing into it. Charles throws you into the deep end from the get-go! You are literally flying by the seat of your pants the entire journey. Truth after truth, lie after lie, perilous danger, deception, murder, fear, revelations; these are all things you have to look forward to. You may think you know the Thompson family, but we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface!

Andrea’s voice was soothing. But Carrie knew the dangers of soothing voices, the dangers of putting faith in anything you couldn’t see, the dangers of believing miracles could happen. Miracles didn’t happen. Not in a world where your husband could be exonerated the same day you told the doctors to pull the plug and let him die.

The truly beautiful thing about this new series is that even though Charles is clearly taking us on a new journey, at the heart of it all are the characters we have fallen in love with. We are seeing some of them in a completely new light, and a few we are meeting for the first time. Hearts WILL be broken. And when I say that, I mean yours. There will be revelations that will rock you to your core and make you question everything you previously knew. But whew….did this book ever make me feel.

Unlike his previous books, this new spin-off trilogy will be a continual story. You have been forewarned; go into this book expecting a major cliffhanger. I welcomed it! This is a book that crossed genres, and will be loved and enjoyed by many. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. For all the lies that will be uncovered in this book, I imagine there will be many more to come. We have only just begun this journey my friends…… I cannot wait to see what unfolds next!

5 resounding, heart-pounding, action-packed, web of lies stars!

This book brings us some of our favorite characters from Charles' Thompson Sisters series, but it is a definitely a different type of book. This one is not romance based, but is more about politics, suspense, and intrigue. It starts after the timeline of The Last Hour and focuses on the youngest Thompson sister, Andrea. She is sixteen and has been raised by her Grandmother in Spain away from her sisters. She is called home by her sister Carrie to see if she is a match for a bone marrow transplant for Carrie's infant daughter.

But a simple trip to the US becomes a dangerous International incident that has long reaching implications and multiple parties involved. Their father has secrets and there are many people willing to do anything to keep them from coming out.

This book moved at a fast pace and was told in multiple points of view (probably the most I have seen in any book). I will admit that at times I had difficulty keeping the people and agencies straight (I was thankful that Charles provided a character cheat sheet in the beginning and had the points of view clearly labeled by name and time). This was more of a suspenseful political intrigue thriller with the Thompson family in the center of it. We do get to see updates on the sisters' lives and their ongoing issues. We see them all struggling from loss and grief after the events from the last book. We are privy to the fact that none of their lives are picture perfect and they all have their problems and secrets to deal with. We learn more about their parents' past and their relationship. But all of the personal relationship drama is just a part of the story. This is also about the underlying political and personal ramifications of the secrets that their parents and others have kept hidden. So there is mystery, suspense, intrigue, tension, action, and danger and it affects the entire family.

Just when I thought I had figured it out there would be another plot twist changing my view. There were so many involved and so many intricate connections. Determining who was good and who was bad became difficult. And it all comes down to a frantic pulse pounding climax that leaves you wanting more. Yes, we get some answers, but there are still questions and unresolved issues.

Even though you could technically read this as a stand alone since it is a spin off series and he does explain many of the events from the past books, I would still recommend reading A Song for Julia, Just Remember to Breathe, and The Last Hour first. It really gives this story more depth and this book answers some questions that we have been wondering about during the previous books. And they are really such beautiful, poignant, emotional, heartfelt books that I never hesitate to recommend them anyway. And it was in that series, that I fell in love with each of the Thompson sisters and their mates. I look forward to seeing where he takes the rest of this trilogy since he definitely left me needing more and also for the twins Sarah and Jessica Thompson to get their own stories

Thanks to Charles Sheehan-Miles for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review. Will be posted at Reviews by Tammy and Kim.

Carrie's newborn daughter Rachel needs a bone marrow transplant. Carrie is not a close enough match so she calls on her sister Andrea to be tested, hoping that she will be a perfect match. Andrea, sent to Europe at an early age to be raised by her grandmother, has been ostracized by her family and has no idea why. Even though she feels distanced from her five sisters, she still jumps on a plane to help in any way that she can. The problem is that several people want to prevent these tests from taking place... but who and why?

Girl of Lies (Rachel's Peril #1) is a spin-off of Charles Sheehan-Miles’s Thompson Sisters Series. Though it is a completely different genre, suspense, it still revolves around our favorite Thompson characters. Girl of Lies picks up right after The Last Hour, so I strongly recommend that you read the other Thompson Sisters books before you read this one. You will need the background information from that series to make sense of Girl of Lies, and you also don't want the prior books to be spoiled by reading ahead here. So, do yourself a favor and read them in order. All of Charles Sheehan-Miles's fabulous books are worth the time and money.... I promise you won't be disappointed!

I loved revisiting the Thompson Sisters in this book. It was great to see their growth over time but what I really loved was seeing them band together. They formed such a strong family unit to love and protect each other. Strong, smart women are such a rare commodity in books, so to see so many admirable women in one setting was exceptional.

This is by no means a romance as we are used to, it’s a suspense novel and we get some action right off the bat. The questions start rolling and they don't stop anytime soon!

My mind was working overtime, from trying to process the different POV’s—not just of the main, lovable characters but of ALL the characters, even the bad guys—to understanding their motives, and their powerful positions. Facts from prior books were swarming around in my head as I tried to formulate new connections to unravel this mystery. This book was carefully crafted for each of the pieces to slowly fall into place, forming a vivid picture in my mind. I was reminded of James Patterson's writing style here: short chapters alternating between the characters and clues on every page. I loved every minute of it!

The one complaint I have is that this story is not resolved completely. It does end on a cliffhanger. A cliffhanger in and of itself is not exactly the problem... the problem is that this book contains a great deal of characters with intricate backgrounds and numerous clues. Given the large cast of characters, their connections, and backstory, makes it nearly impossible to remember all of the details in any expanse of time. It is my opinion that with a novel this complex you will need to read the books together in order to make sense of the series. That means I will have to plan a reread of Girl of Lies before the sequel is released. Still, I’m so anxious to see where the story will go. Here’s hoping that Charles Sheehan-Miles is working quickly on that next book so I won’t be left in suspense for too long!

Hidden family truths are exposed and lives are threatened. You won't want to miss this intriguing novel about the Thompson Sisters in peril. I give Girl of Lies 4 stars!

Girl of Lies, is NOT a story about Rachel Thompson. At one time, the first book in this series was titled Rachel's Peril. With the new title of this book, I assumed it would still be about Rachel. But in fact, it is much, much, more.

For instance, it details the back story of the lives of the parents, Adelina and Richard Thompson. We learn their history, who they are, why they are, and what happened to make Adelina the horrible mother that she is. We learn about Richard Thompson, the seemingly closed off father of the six girls.

There are so many characters in this book with so many different POV's, and many time changes, that it left me in awe of this author. How he was able to keep them all straight and still write a cohesive and exciting story is astounding.

This story takes place immediately following the birth of Ray and Carrie's baby. So, while we are taken on a historical tour, we see the current outcomes if the decisions made by those involved. We also get to see how Ray's absence has effected those closest to him.

The writing was brilliant, and entertaining as usual. I have so many highlighted sections and taken so many notes that I can't talk about because I don't want to reveal any spoilers. This was a GREAT book filled with background information on this family.

It is not a romance novel, it is a political suspense/thriller. It may not have been a romance, but I didn't miss it. I already knew the main characters and I just felt like I was reading a continuation in there story. HOWEVER, this was big for me...I HATE cliffhangers, (because I am impatient), and the plot is not resolved at the end of this book. That did bother me. Not enough to not recommend it, because it was brilliant. I would also recommend reading the first three books about the Thompson sisters first. This book is a continuation.

I've been a huge fan of Mr. Sheehan-Miles since I got Just Remember to Breathe on a 99cent whim. Best purchase I ever made! Although that was the first book he wrote for the Thompson Sisters series other books were written out of sequence to complete the series. This current one, a spin-off series, was very different from the others. Previous books centered around the girls with a romantic feeling, not all hearts and flowers but in a general subject I'd call them romance. I could easily call this latest a suspense novel.

Girl of Lies starts off with Carrie's baby and her urgent medical needs. The youngest Thompson sister, Andrea, has been called in from Spain to get tested. All hell breaks loose very early in the book and the sisters have their world torn to pieces. Andrea's visit to the states set off incredible events that leave old questions answered and a ton of new ones to explore. I feel saying anything else would lead to spoilers. The author does a great job of filling in the pieces about the girls so you could follow the story but I urge you read The Thompson Sisters series first.

I received this ARC from the author for an honest review.

I wasn`t sure I was going to enjoy this book, no idea really as to why. It just sounded like it was going to be one huge cluster f***. But as always Charles surprised me. It was a truly wonderful read and lots of unexpected stuff happens. And a major cliffhanger I really enjoyed. I can`t really say too much since the book is not out yet, I received this book for the blog tour. I love all these books with this crazy family and if you enjoyed the last books by Charles, you are in for a treat with this book. Can family secrets tear apart this family? You will have to wait to find out! All in all I really enjoyed this book and I am pretty certain everyone will also! It was a awesome journey and cannot wait to see what comes next. Thank you for yet another amazing book, Charles!

I received a ARC in return for my honest opinion.
Wow! I thought I had an idea of what to expect from this book, but boy I was wrong. Unlike the other Thompson sisters stories, there was no romance, but don't let that disappoint you. This book is full of action, lies, murder, and it keeps you turning the pages dying to figure out the pieces of the puzzle he skillfully created.
The story is told from so many different points of views, and to be honest it did get confusing at times when you didn't know who the character was, but in the end it starts to become clear-and horrifying. Everything you thought you knew about the Thompsons family life is blown apart. It ends with a huge cliffhanger, but don't let that deter you from reading another one of Charles' masterpieces.

I've kindly received an ARC copy from this spectacular author. In this book we learn so much about the Thompson Family it's mind blowing. ..

I'm not very fond of cliffhangers in general but this one left me like: "really? that's it?" And I wanted to kill Charles all over again!!!

But what a great and wonderful story!

In my opinion I will personally wait gor the other books to come out to read it but that's just because I hate waiting and now I want the next book ASAP! And this one isn't even out yet!

I can't put the book down once I started reading and I loved every minute of this book. Another work well done by Mr. Sheehan-Miles!

5 big, fat stars for this one! Holy crap....what a tangled mess this story is!! Even though this story contains all of the sisters from The Thompson Sisters series...this book is WAY different. There is a lot of political content that really makes you think.

I had a big of a time trying to keep up with the characters in the book. There are so many new people that we met in this tangle web. I'm hoping as more of the story is released, the pieces and characters will all fit together.

I shut my Kindle after I read the last page and the only thought it my head was "wow."

I can't wait for the next part of this story. I sure hope that Charles doesn't make us wait too long!

ARC provided. First time I read a book that had so many different POV's. I'm amazed at how this author was able to tell a story so cohesively from so many angles. I am a major fan of romance novels and this was a big change for me. I missed the love story but I am so happy to be an arc reader for this author. I have been a fan since the first Thompson novel. Thanks for sharing these characters and I would definitely recommend.

Her biri kendine özgü, renkli kişiliklere sahipti.

A Song for Julia kitaplarından birisiyle başlamanızı öneririm.

WOW

I'm still trying to figure out how to put my words together, in order to review this book.  I guess the first thing I should say is read The Last Hour before you read Girl of Lies because there is a major spoiler and unfortunately I stopped reading The Last Hour to read this one and well bummer for me.

So this was like Homeland meets Tom Clancy meets Enemy of the State and our main characters are the Thompson sisters?

Yeah that was more a question than anything else.  I honestly still don't know where to begin.  I want to say this story is primarily about Andrea Thompson, the youngest sister.  But really shes just the catalyst.  She unknowingly starts this chain of seriously effed up events.  To say the fall out is crazy, is an understatement.  I'm still in a flux of confusion and turmoil.  I really loved the setting.  I live just outside of D.C. so for me it felt like this was all unfolding in my backyard.  Makes a story so much better when you can picture the locations in your head.

I can't even say this is a love story.  Not yet anyway, considering it's the first installment, I'm going to assume there is possibly a love story in the making.  There are so many characters involved in this story that I was almost contemplating creating my own timeline like the one Carrie created in the first season of Homeland.  If you watch that show you totally remember the huge wall she had in her house just filled with pictures, articles, sticky notes all connected with string and what not.

But I didn't do that.  Instead I focused really hard.  Tried to pay attention to names, places, timelines, conversations, and any abstract tidbits just in case they came into play later.  None of it seemed to matter though because just when I thought I had something figured out, Charles would throw out a breadcrumb to distract us.  He then completely redirects your attention elsewhere and you forget for a moment what you thought you knew.

It's brilliant writing.

So as I sit here with my mouth finally shut, I'm trying to piece together what I know now versus what I knew in the beginning of the book.  In some respects it's a lot and in others not so much.  I mean I know the players, I'm pretty sure I have a handle on the "event".  I'm just not sure about the how all the dots connect.  Hmmm you know the more I type the more I realize that there is a love story brewing in this book.  It's subtle and I wonder how many will actually see it.  All I can say is, it's brilliant writing.

This does end with a cliffhanger.  A major HUGE event happens.  Everything is chaotic and we don't really know how the event has totally played out.

I could definitely see Girl of Lies as a movie.  Charles Sheehan-Miles kudos to you Girl of Lies is just brilliant.  I don't want to wait for the next book.  My fingers are crossed that it's being released sooner rather than later.  Geez I haven't checked to see if it's even written yet!

4.5 stars

Having just finished the original Thompson Sisters books, I was excited to continue their stories and learn what was to come of all the girls after The Last Hour, and Girl of Lies did not disappoint. Girl of Lies picks up after the birth of Carrie's daughter, Rachel. When the family learns Rachel has a genetic disorder which requires a bone marrow transplant, each of Carrie's sisters rush to her side and the hospital to find out if they are a match, including Andrea. Andrea has lived in Spain with her grandmother since she was quite young. She feels apart from her sisters and disconnected from the family in general. Within minutes of arriving in the United States, Andrea is kidnapped and this adventure begins.

Note, this is not a romantic story, as the original series was. Andrea is at the center of a lot of the action and suspense of this story, but there is no love interest as an active part of the story -- she is only 16 after all, and returning to a country she has not stepped foot in since she was a child. No, not a romance, but this book is so full of political intrigue and plots there is really no place for a romance.

From several of the family members to a handful of the new characters introduced for this series, Girl of Lies is narrated by a rotating cast of characters during a mix of present day and past events. There are really only a few days of present day activity for such a rich story. There is so much detail included in this that the sections are time stamped to keep the entire timeline clear from start to finish. This wide variety of voices in the story actually kept it moving at a faster pace than would have been possible if it were narrated by only one or two characters. There were times that some of the relationships and political affiliations were confusing to keep track of, with so may different security agencies involved in the storyline, but the connections and crossovers have to be a little on the foggy side in order for this story to work.

I knew it was going to be a cliffhanger, but when I reached that last page I kept flicking my finger across my screen trying to get to that next part. The ending leaves readers at a pretty high emotional peak, and I will say it is a bit maddening to not know how the characters are going to come out of their present situations, especially Dylan and Andrea.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I was so sucked in to the events, especially learning about how Adelina and Robert met and married, and the hints of what else went down early in Robert's career to put the girls in danger nearly 30 years later. Charles Sheehan-Miles has set up the beginning of a story that is sure to have so many twists and turns along that way that I don't even want to predict what will happen to the Thompson sisters, the people surrounding them, and little Rachel, who seems to have set off this whole string of events as a tiny infant in need of medical care, but I can't wait to have more of their stories.

Thanks to Charles Sheehan-Miles for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Girl of Lies by Charles Sheehan-Miles was an outstanding book that held me in it’s grip from start to finish. It was nothing like I had imagined it would be…it was so much more. CSM surpassed any and every expecation I had and delivered one of my absolute favorite stories of 2013.

A few months back I decided to dive into the Thompson Sisters books and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect because I hadn’t heard too much about the books. Once a few of my friends started raving about them I decided to check them out. All of the books had synopses that seemed interesting enough but really, I had no idea what I was in for. In this series I have found some of my absolute favorite characters to read about. Ever. These characters intertwined with amazing writing, great story lines and an outstanding ability to talk about *real* life stuff is what makes this series top my favorites lists.

Although Girl of Lies is something different than the first Thompson Sisters books it was definitely just as good…possibly even better. CSM delivered so many twists and turns and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. He wove a web filled with mystery and deceit and wrapped me up so tight in it all that I had no idea which way was up and which way was down. All the way to the very end I had no idea which way the story would turn and I just LOVE when books are anything but predictable! A political thriller has always been one of my favorite types of reads but mixed with my favorite characters this book just blew. me. away.

This book left me craving more… I absolutely can not wait for book two. It was wonderful getting better acquainted to some of my favorite characters. It was also great having my opinions on some of these characters completely turned around. I was proved wrong over and over. My heart ached. There may have been tears. My heart raced. I.NEED.MORE.
I don’t want to go into too much detail about the specifics about this book because I feel it is a journey that everyone should take. I like to go into all of the books I read blind but this is a perfect example of a book that takes you on a wild ride and any prior knowledge of what was going on would have taken away from the experience.

This one earns 5 stars from me! Another job well done by Charles Sheehan-Miles. If you haven’t read any of his books I highly recommend giving him a shot. Although you can start Girl of Lies without reading the other Thompson Sisters books I believe that this is a family of characters everyone would enjoy.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Rachel's Peril is a 3 book spin-off from The Thompson Sisters series. I highly recommend you read them first to have a better understanding of everything that takes place in Girl of Lies, and also because they are all beautiful, emotional books. I have fallen in love with all of the Thompson sisters since reading Just Remember to Breathe and each story has left many questions in my mind regarding this family that I was awaiting answers to.

Girl of Lies starts to answer those questions and takes their story into a more suspenseful, thrilling, action-packed, dangerous direction rather than a romantic one. It was so different from the first 3 stories. They were focused on one sister at a time and the men that came into their lives. While this story starts out focused on Andrea, all the sisters and the current state of their lives/relationships eventually come into play. There are multiple POV's throughout the book which I felt a little overwhelmed with at first, but then saw that everyone was an essential part of the story unfolding. Also the author provided a character cheat sheet at the beginning of the story which helped keeping everyone straight easier. The way Charles Sheehan-Miles revealed and untangled all the secrets and lies was perfectly done and just proved again what an amazing author he is. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that I just love his writing and his books are an automatic buy for me.

I am mostly a reader of romance novels and I am not a fan of cliffhangers. Girl of Lies was more of a political suspense that left you with a cliffhanger right after the climax of the story but I still LOVED it! There was no way I was going to wait to read Girl of Lies because I couldn't wait for answers and I jumped for joy at a chance to read it early. If you are already a fan of this family's series then you will NEED to read this book, it is done brilliantly! I am anxiously awaiting the next one! And if you have yet to discover them what are you waiting for? Trust me, you won't be sorry.

**JODIE'S REVIEW**

I have been a huge fan of Charles since I picked up Just Remember to Breathe. From that moment on I was attached to The Thompson Family and I couldn’t wait for more. I am going to stop here and say if you haven’t read them I highly suggest you stop everything and go live in those books for a little bit. I will also warn now that this series is not complete so yes PREPARE FOR THE CLIFFHANGER!!

Girl of Lies is a little different than the other Thompson Sisters books you see this is not a romance book, this book was full on suspense and action. It starts right after The Last Hour and this one revolves around Andrea, the youngest of Thompson Sisters. She has been raised in Spain with the Grandmother away from her sisters. But one phone call brings her home and that trip home quickly becomes something no one prepared for. And with that we find out there are secrets, secrets their father has that people have done everything to cover up.

“Your mission in life is to make sure Richard Thompson’s secrets never come to light, Filner. At all costs. This was all supposed to be nice and quiet, and now it’s now, and its your fault. I want it fixed. I want it to go away. Am I clear? If this problem doesn’t go away, then you will?”

This book kept me turning the pages and on the edge of my bed. But what I wasn’t ready for were all the POV’s that were thrown at me. Seriously that cast of Characters at the beginning, it’s there for a reason and I was so thankful Charles had included it. This book was like more like watching a suspense thriller then reading a book. It had so much mystery, suspense, danger and action I almost felt I was reading my husband’s kindle. Then just when I thought I had figured out everything Charles spun it and changed my opinion. What I will say is a lot of questions I had prior, this book came in and answered but it also left me with new questions but of course isn’t that what a good cliffhanger does!!

“Why was any of this happening? None of it made any sense. Shock upon shock had been piled on her,”

I definitely look forward to seeing where this trilogy is taken and you may think you know the Thompson Family but news flash just like real life there is always more to the story!!! This book is definitely a journey and it’s one that is only just beginning!! DAMN IT NOW I WILL WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!!

“What else is there to know?” Our parents are liars.”

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Charles Sheehan-Miles is a master story teller. His works are emotional, thought provoking, and keep the reader enthralled throughout the book.

Girl Of Lies is book one in Rachel's Peril series. It is a continuation of the Thompson sister series. Although this book is a spin off of the Thompson sisters series it can be read without reading the first part of the series. The author provides enough of a background that gives the reader enough information to follow all the characters in this book. I do highly recommend reading the Thompson Sister series because they are jewels that will live in the readers hearts long after the last page is finished. The reader becomes involved with the Thompson family and their lives.

Girl Of Lies picks up were the last book left off. The Thompson family is trying to move on from the devastation and losses. These losses have affected each and every member of this family in different ways. The loss is like a domino effect that opens up a new can of worms. This new can of worms is much more dangerous and life threatening to each and every member of the Thompson family. Secrets are revealed, history is closing in on the present, and the sins of the father are demanding retribution and payment. The payment is the lives of the children and the life of the newest member, Rachel.

This book is a thriller that is unpredictable and leaves the reader hanging with fear for all the players. The one thing the Thompson sisters have is the strength of their love for one another and their commitment to their family. They have depended on each other in their younger years and will have to do so in their adult lives. This time they will have help from those that love them, dedicated protectors that will give their lives, and maybe some secret government officials who feel the truth is more important than keeping secrets. All the players have not been revealed. The secrets have barely scratched the surface. The danger has just begun.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I was shocked at the ending and am dying for the next book.

Charles Sheehan-Miles is a master story teller. Look out Nicholas Sparks....Charles Sheehan-Miles is writing a saga that will blow the most emotional story out of the water. Well done Charles!
