Charlie Howard has been waking up naked in the middle of The Demon Isle woods with no memory of how he got there and no recollection of his actions during the night. And if this wasn’t enough to deal with, there’s a new Supernatural Investigator in town and timed with her arrival is an onslaught of strange sightings and attacks—ones the Howard Witches believe to be a hoax perpetrated by someone on the Isle in order to attract tourists.
However, as their investigation unfolds and Charlie, Michael and Melinda, along with the Vampire, William Wakefield, piece together what’s happening, they fear the threat might not only be real, but that they are already too late to control the chaos, which will lead to a fatal outcome.

This is the first book in the series I didn't agree with the title. I can think of several others that would have been more appropriate. Either way, the book was intense yet lacked enough time to really fill in details. It was almost as if, one was trying to cram all the stories into one, yet only the prologue information. I truly enjoy this series, just wish the books were "more"!
Back up to a 2.5...this was a little better than my rant about the last book. But I'm getting tired of the lingering question of "what is the Jackson's ulterior motive?" (Since I've already started book 6, I'll acknowledge that I found out right away there.) The dimension of the characters that I felt was present in the earlier books is lesser now; I wish it would come back. Hopefully by the end of the series I'm feeling positive about Michael, Melinda, Charlie, and all of their entourage (especially William...sheesh).
I really enjoy the story line and how the characters story line stay fresh throughout the series. The adult versions are truly "adult only" content which at first I didn't think mattered but it takes the series from YA to another level of maturity in a very respectful way and not raunchy or vulgar at all. I recommend this series to any adult who enjoys modern fantasy werewolf and vampire story lines. FYI I am 43 yrs old just to show my adult point of view
The Howard and Deane families are continuing with their uneasy truce. A group of feyks have invaded the island and now they are uneasily working together to try and catch the feyks. Riley Deane had one appear and wrap itself like a black cloud around him. Riley starts acting totally unlike himself, to the point that Melinda Howard thinks she has made a mistake dating him. Elsbeth, no longer a ghast, has been tormenting William in a good way, telling him he needs to catch up with technology as bad as she does. The Howard family thinks that the Deane family may have called the feyks to the island. It seems that everything is happening since their arrival. Nobody seems to remember that Ava and her father arrived about the same time. Who is controlling all the chaos that is sending everyone all over the island, and who broke into the house and stole the family journal from William's study?
The writing in this book is atrocious, the author has no idea what "bemused" means. On the other hand the plot is most intriguing and is the only thing that kept me entertained. Very original and witty. Just the writing is terrible.
Poor Charlie. He has so much on his shoulders and Eva is so not helping. What will be so and how will his family come out at the end of this fight? I can't stop reading!!
