Rate this book
Two iconic horror franchises collide, as Vampirella - the fan-favorite supernatural heroine - faces the most nightmarish creatures ever to appear in cinema: the Xenomorphs from Alien! As the first human colony on Mars digs deeper into the crimson soil, they discover the catacombs of a hibernating civilization, tens of thousands of years old. The evidence suggests that they are Nosferatu, an ancient and sinister species that Vampirella is all too familiar with. Called to the Red Planet to investigate, the monster hunter and her human allies find a chamber with hundreds of ellipsoidal, leathery eggs... and after they hatch, the true horror begins. In space, no one can hear Vampirella scream!

In the future, a Mars colony comes across an ancient vampire civilization. Vampirella is called into investigate and they unwittingly unleash the Xenomorph scourge. Vampirella must work with the humans to keep the Xenomorphs from escaping Mars. The art is OK, but nothing special. Neither is the story.

Fun enough but severely lacking in editorial consistency (for art, primarily) toward the end. Know that going in, manage your expectations, and you can have a good time with it.

As a huge Aliens fan, I'm so glad to have been given the opportunity to read this. I'll admit that I knew nothing about Vampirella but I was intrigued by the idea of xenomorphs and vampires battling.

This has a traditional Aliens feel where scientific exploration leads to the discovery of something deadly. Vampirella is called to a base on Mars to help the team safely explore what appears to be an underground colony of vampires. Her and her team find more than anyone expected, and so it begins.

While the story has an air of familiarity that any fan of the Aliens world would recognize, I was not bored by it. In fact, I read it in about two sittings. I enjoyed the artwork. The artist did a phenomenal job mixing the bright colors and the dark, grittiness of the xenomorphs. My only complaint is that some frames were difficult to see the details of the drawings. My favorite part of it was when

I was on the fence between a 3- and 4-star rating. I opted with a 4-star for these reasons: fantastic artwork, good pace of story, and a traditional Aliens feel without being boring

I want to thank the publisher for providing me with a free copy for an honest review.

I am fan of both Vampirella and the Aliens franchise, so I thought I'd check this one out. I was wondering how they would mesh the two very different franchises together, but they did a decent enough job by basically just setting in the future when Vampirella is still around.

I don't know if this ties into something in other Vampirella comics I haven't read or if it was something just for this book, but vampires colonize Mars in the future only to come in contact with Aliens who decimate their colony. Many years later, humans end on Mars to face the same Alien problem. Vampirella is called in since, well, she's a vampire herself and the remains of the vampire colony is discovered. Then the Aliens show up and things take off from there.

It's very much a typical Aliens type comic with Vampirella and the humans facing the Aliens under less than ideal conditions.

The art is solid but not anything special, and really the same could be said of the story. It's a cool read just to see Vampirella interacting with Aliens but that's about all you'll probably get out of this one.

I have never really cared that much for Vampirella, most seen her as the skimpy dressed vampire and never really bothered with anything to do with her. But, I'm a huge Aliens fan. So, I just knew I just had to read this graphic novel on NetGalley. And, despite me being pretty much sick and tired of the whole vampire culture (please God not another movie or book with vampires in them is usually my reaction nowadays) so was Aliens / Vampirella quite entertaining.

I loved the whole idea of an Aliens / Vampirella crossover. Vampirella realizes quite early on that the Nosferatu is not the big problem on Mars, there is something else dangerous down below, the problem is that when shit hit the fan is it Vampirella that gets the blame for all the dead people. So, now she has to face of Aliens and the humans that are in charge who thinks she is the one that killed the crew. She is the vampire of course, easy to blame.

The art is good, suits the story and I like that Vampirella isn't running around is some skimpy bathing suits kind of costume. Well, she is one the cover and for instance in this pic that I have added, but I guess the artists gets a bit creative when they do cover images and other artistic stuff. And, red skimpy bathing suits kind of costume is her "thing"!
But, in the story, she dresses more normal!

'Aliens/Vampirella' by Corinna Sara Bechko with art by Javier Garcia-Miranda posed an interesting question for me. Could these two horror franchises actually meet up into a good story? The answer is mostly.

Humans have colonized Mars. As part of their digging, they unearth a long forgotten colony of Nosferatu that were on the planet long before humans. They decide to call in Vampirella the only vampire known to exist. The problem is that the ancient vampires aren't the only thing dwelling in the dark.

When Vampirella arrives, the investigation triggers the birth of the Xenomorphs. As the humans start to die off, even Vampirella is not safe from infection. There is a fight and flee and Vampirella even finds an ancient ally to help. Will the humans trust her long enough to save them?

It's a decent Aliens story. They are mindless killing machines who replicate and destroy. They do that well here. Vampirella is a bit of a different story. She comes across as a bit afraid to insult the humans. This is not the confident, almost arrogant, heroine I've come to know. It's a weird situation, but she has been in stranger and always seems in control. That's not the case here. The covers are all included, which feature Vampirella in her signature outfit, even though she doesn't wear such an impractical outfit in space.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Dynamite Entertainment, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Disappointing Crossover

You may wonder, what could I expect from Aliens/Vampirella? Honestly, something campier and more fun. We've seen Aliens crossed over in a lot of absurd ways with a lot of absurd characters - I just thought this time it's be more willing to be a bit silly. Instead it rushes to the action, presumes too much about the lore on both sides, and then concludes way too abruptly. A shame.

This is only my second Aliens comic, and my first Vampirella. (In fact, I'd never even heard of her.) I thought this was awesome! There's not many reviews on this yet, so I'm going to refer you to Maria's review because I agree with her. And my reviews are quite shite, to be honest. So go read her's! And read the comic!

Over the years I've been very gung-ho about the tales starring Vampirella and have loved the graphic novels both modern and antiquity despite an aversion to the dress code.
The Xenomorphs are simply one of the greatest concepts of alien parasitic creatures that can be imagined and have few equals. Their movies have made good history but the novels are simply fabulous. I personally have loved the Alien movies including the often bashed Alien 3 and am watching Alien Earth currently.

The matching of wits and power between the two should make even the Ripley-Xenomorph confrontation secondary and this volume in all its bloody glory delivers what was expected.
In my second reading the book has been as enjoyable as my first time during Covid season.

The art could have been better and the story could have been better as there have been some fabulous Vampirella stories but the overall end result is an enviable experience at least for me.

Would love a redux.

I really wanted to love this, after all, an Aliens / Vampirella mash up sounds amazing!

Sadly, this was poorly executed. Vampirella is incredibly timid and not even remotely fierce in this. She gets her ass handed to her time after time by the Xenomorphs. Formulaic as we have Tucker, the typical douche that accompanies any Weyland endeavor and he of course thinks that Vampirella is the cause of his lost crew.

I did really love the cover art though, but the rest was pretty much just, meh.

This was a failure on three fronts: capturing neither the sci-fi-gothic-body-horror of Alien, nor the kitsch charm of Vampirella, and certainly doing nothing to exploit the juxtaposition of those two elements. (Particularly disappointing given the individual issue covers do a fine job on all three points.)

description

There are moments where you see what this could have been: the rats attacking the eggs, the Alien/Vampire Queen (although it turns out even that's been done before). But for the most part, Aliens/Vampirella relies on placing Xenomorphs and Vampi in the same frame and assuming that's enough: it never actually shows you why this is all so cool.

description

Perhaps I shouldn't have expected anything better. Alien crossover comics hardly have the best pedigree, and Vampirella was never really anything more than something for teenagers to whack off over in the days before internet pornography. But I hope, dear reader, and that's my curse. If someone managed to get as silly an idea as "Aliens versus Vampirella" commissioned, they could've got the last five yards across the finishing line by making it fun.

First off, I've got to say I appreciate that Vampirella is wearing conservative clothing for this outing on Mars. Not that it helps when her exploration of a Martian Nosferatu installation reveals a clutch of Alien eggs. The story takes a number of twists and turns, leading to an alien Queen, a lot of people doubting Vampirella's intentions, and a lot of really bad decisions that were pretty obvious even at the time. The Nosferatu installation is an interesting idea that could have used more time to be developed, but instead most of the story focuses on the dozen or so humans in the installation and their rapidly dwindling numbers. Vampirella has a couple moments to shine, but neither she nor the Aliens spend much time as the primary threat. One human makes an impression, Lars with his wife on an orbiting spaceship. Ultimately it's a decent story, but it doesn't provide any real insights for either the Aliens or Vampirella.

I enjoyed Aliens/Vampirella. It did repeat the same Aliens story premise of unsuspecting humans finding alien eggs, getting face-hugged, chest-busted, overrun by aliens, and having to blow the whole place up.

However, the fact that a vampire would survive an alien chestburster was a nice shakeup to what would otherwise be an all-too-familiar story.

What the heck was that? Vampirella Aliens crossover? Sure, why not. Ancient nosferatu living under the surface of Mars. Vampirella wearing vastly more clothes than I've seen before. Chest bursting xenomorphs and gore galore. Well hey, that exists, and I've read it.

I just signed up for Netgalley.com account a few hours ago. This is the first book I've gotten ahold of through them. This was a digital preview copy provided by netgalley and the publisher.

This comics crossover event brings together 2 horror comics legends Dark Horse's Aliens and Dynamite's Vampirella. Multi-company crossover events like this don't happen that often when compared to the number of comics released each year. When they do happen, they should be loads of fun. These are dream matchups. Dark Horse's Aliens franchise seems to be one of the comics properties that really makes the rounds. That all started back when Dark Horse acquired the rights to make comics based on both the Aliens and Predator movie franchises. That first comic event that Dark Horse published in house between those 2 movie franchises was every science fiction fanboy's dream. That series paved the way for Aliens and Predator both to crossover with with popular comics characters from other companies. Vampirella has also had her fair share of crossover events with characters from different companies. Most of the comics that I've read with either Aliens or Vampirella in them were crossover events. When I saw the two were going to be in a book together, I jumped at the chance to sink my teeth into it.

As stated earlier, crossover events between characters from different companies should be fun. Not only is this one fun, but it stays true to both franchises. What do you expect to see in something from the Aliens franchise? First of all you need humans in the middle of nowhere, preferably in space, whom the vast majority are just fodder for the Aliens. Check. One or more of said humans needs to find the Aliens' eggs so that the face-huggers can lay new eggs inside them. Check. Then you need a strong Ripley-esque female capable of taking out numerous Aliens and keeping herself alive. Vampirella definitely fits the bill of the Ripley type that can handle herself in a fight. So, yet another check.

This may seem a bit formulaic, but I don't know a single person that enjoys the Aliens movies that went into them thinking they were about to watch something that Oscar worthy acting in it. They watch to be entertained. Why should comics based on those movies be any different?

Writer Corinna Bechko manages to weave Vampirella organically into the Aliens universe much to my surprise. I wondered how the hell vampires were supposed to be in outerspace and run into some Aliens. Following the aforementioned formula, Bechko sets her story on Mars where a group of humans in a mining colony have uncovered and ancient Nosferatu base. Vampirella arrives on a ship after she was recruited to come to Mars in an advisory role. At the very beginning of their search of the Nosferatu base, Vampirella and her human escorts are attacked by face-huggers. Anyone that has ever followed the Aliens movies or comics knows what that leads to. Pretty soon all hell breaks lose as Vampirella and the remaining humans fight for their lives. I wanted to be entertained by this and Bechko delivered. The writing gets 3.5 stars.

Javier Garcia-Miranda is the interior artist for the series. All of his characters look really good. Vampirella isn't wearing her traditional red bikini, but since they're on Mars where it is supposed to be much colder than here on Earth, I can live with that. It is actually probably better that she wasn't in that suit because that would have probably been just a little too cheesy and made the whole thing resemble a cheap Roger Corman movie rather than the more expensive Hollywood movies that the Aliens comics are based on. Even without her suit, Vampirella is easily recognizable by her black hair with bangs hanging down her forehead. As great as she looks, it is the Aliens that really stand out and showcase the artists talent. Damn, they look amazing. The art as a whole looks great and really matches the tone of the story being told. Javier Garcia-Miranda's art gets 4.5 stars.

A 3.5 star story and 4.5 star art combine to make this a 4 star all-around book. While I don't think book rivals the movie Aliens in terms of greatness, it is much better than Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection were. I ended up being pleasantaly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. If you're a fan of either Aliens, Vampirella or both, this is definitely worth checking out.

I received an advance reading copy of this comic compilation (Issues #1 through #6) from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was enticed by the concept of a mashup of two legendary franchises—Vampirella and Alien—and could not resist giving this a try. I wish that I had. I did not think very much of this series which, to me, was comprised of repetitive volumes in which basically the same sequence of flight and battle was replayed over and over. The entire plot is no more than a few soldiers, with the negligible help of Vampirella, who isn’t really even recognizable as herself most of the time, attempting to abandon an investigation and get rescued.

Rather than be a novel twist on classic monsters, the vampires, and even Vampirella herself, add nothing to a story that is slim to begin with and desperately in need of some interesting plot line and depth to flesh it out and the aliens just attack with annoying frequency and no suspense. Even the potential conflict of distrust between humans and vampires, eternal mortal enemies, falls completely flat.

I got a copy of this from Netgalley for a fair and honest review. First I want to mention that I have never read any Vampirella before. I had seen the character before and knew she was a vampire. Of course everyone knows of the Aliens. I know that this versus is not a new thing either. At times I really didn't like this as it seemed kind of rushed...I wished that a little more effort had been put into setting up the main plot. In the end I was quite generous with my rating of 3 stars.

I picked up this book because it sounded so silly but there are a lot of Aliens vs whomever books. Superman vs Aliens, Aliens vs Predator, Judge Dredd vs Aliens So why not Vampirella? Still seems silly to me. Vampires and aliens on mars very strange. The art is amazing though. This book was so campy it was giving me the giggles so I liked it. 4 stars.

Expecting better

The art was inconsistent and went from acceptable to just plain bad in places. The story was ok. The best thing about this series was the covers. This was one of the weakest aliens comics I've read.

Humans have finally reached Mars! Thankfully Elon Musk is nowhere in sight, because the colonists have discovered something underneath the surface: the remains of a pre-human civilization! Vampirella stops by to investigate the possibility that these ruins were built by SPACE VAMPIRES, and they find eggs. You can guess what happens next!

Corinna Bechko had previously worked on Star Wars: Legacy II and Invisible Republic, so it's no surprise this was well written. To my knowledge, I hadn't seen Javier Garcia-Miranda's art elsewhere, but here it was good and clean. Easy to see what's going on without confusion.

I don't actually know anything Vampirella (other than she's a vampire), but I sure af know xenomorphs! I've been reading Aliens comics since 1994. The Batman vs Aliens and Superman vs Aliens crossovers were decent, but even so this book was still much better than expected! The people weren't immediately stupid af. They tried quarantine and, yes, some dolts broke it immediately, but the point is they tried, which automatically makes this book's plot better than Prometheus and Covenant COMBINED.

Pensa bem, aliens, vampiros.

Like all of these types of crossovers, I'm expecting more to be entertained (aka, dumb fun) than to find a masterpiece of comic writing. I have a mainstream knowledge of the Alien universe, having seen all and liking more than half of the films in the franchise, and almost zero knowledge of Vampirella aside from "she's a sexy vampire lady", so this piqued my interest.

In return, I got a story that gets off to a great start, with just enough explanations to get going but most importantly, with the right atmosphere and level of tension I'd expect from an Alien book. However, after the explosive first 2 issues, the middle part loses a bit of steam. On one hand it slowly blends in the vampire/nosferatu lore which is interesting. On the other, there's a lot of page count wasted on humans talking behind screens, or on characters running around pointlessly. The end unfortunately fizzled out completely for me, especially the last issue. It's using ideas that have already been used in previous issues, then abruptly ends after a very unsatisfying big boss fight.

The art followed the same path: good in the first part, but rushed and kind of basic towards the end. This is especially weird since it's the same artist across the book, it's almost like he got bored at the end and was just phoning it in.

What I liked: A vampire bites a xenomorph and it goes exactly how I expected it to. The last page in the first issue (the chest burst). Very little use of guns, leading to more interesting ways in warding off xenos. The design of the big boss.

What I didn't like: The last issue (#6). The vampire stuff is cool but felt ultimately inconsequential - if Vampirella was replaced by any other character (human/vampire), I think the ending would have been the same.

I don’t know what I expected when I saw the reviews. Probably a lot of fighting between my favourite Alien and Vampirella. Too much fighting. But guess what, I was wrong.

This collection actually has a plot. Vampirella is asked to join a crew on Mars to determine whether a contaminated part of the base is now safe. The crew is sceptical, but when they find something that obviously looks like Alien activity, things get heated.

What can you expect from a crossover like this one? This collection could only be silly. I mean Aliens... and Vampirella? But if you’re a massive Alien fan like me, have played the games and watched the movies, you’ll most likely get a 2-3 hours of entertainment out of this collection.

So why did I give it 5 stars? I had low expectations and I got surprised. Albeit silly, the plot is there. I can understand why people would find this collection bad, but I think they missed the point. Aliens/Vampirella was never meant to take itself seriously. It’s an adventure for fans.

I read this book on my Kindle in black/grey.
