Cameron Parker has held the title of Gingerbread King for four years running. Sugar Hollow’s annual Christmas Gingerbread House Competition is the one time of year introverted Cameron comes out of his shell, reveling in the opportunity to show off his spectacular baking and decorating skills. But this year there’s a new face in town, and not only is he coming for Cameron’s crown, he’s doing it with a flirty wink and a smile. But if Finn Kelly thinks his red hair, good looks and charm will win Cameron over, he can think again.
Finn Kelly moved to Sugar Hollow for a fresh start. When he hears about the local gingerbread house competition, he enters as a way to make friends— and maybe to catch the attention of shy local, Cameron Parker. But Finn’s attempts at flirting fall flat, and it becomes clear that Cameron sees Finn as a rival, not a potential date.
When an accident leads to Finn staying with Cameron at his cabin and a snowstorm traps them there, Cameron has to rethink his initial impression of Finn. Is it possible that there’s more to this cute, cocky city boy than meets the eye?
Ginger Snapped is a fun, low-angst Christmas novella that features rivals to lovers and only one bed, and where the gingerbread’s not the only thing that’s sweet and spicy.

I enjoyed this sweet morsel of a story. It's so short, there's no relationship momentum at all, but there's plenty of cookies, awkward flirting, and a cat named Asshole.
I loved how awkward Finn and Cameron were around each other, and their string of mishaps was so entertaining!
They even have me wanting to give gingerbread another chance - something I haven't touched since ginger biscuits were recommended to help with severe morning sickness... Spoiler alert: It was definitely a lie and ginger burns 😂
Ginger Snapped was such a fun and cute holiday novella, and I loved Cameron and Finn so much. The two literally ran into each other several times, got off on the wrong foot, and still ended up having an adorable HEA!
𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗧: - holiday novella - Asshole 🫶🏻 - small town Vermont - gingerbread bake-off - rivals to lovers - opposites attract - only one bed + snowed in
This was a fun little read to get into the holiday-reading spirit! What's more Hallmark meets M/M then a gingerbread competition? I did struggle a little with the chemistry between the two MCs in the beginning - I think some of the
It also made me crave gingerbread - tis the season, after all!
*I received an ARC from the author but my review is all my own opinion.
This had everything I love in a Christmas romance—small town, lots of snow, hot chocolate, festive treats (oh my god I want a cookie so much right now), and bonus Only One Bed! There were so many moments that made me giggle, and it left me with a huge smile on my face! Definitely a great one to kick off the Christmas spirit!
I absolutely loved Cameron and Finn's story! They were a hilariously awkward mess at the best of times, there were so many things that were working against them but somehow they made it through! This is full of humor, snarky, sass, a very destructive cat, and lots of cookies!!
I'm a baker, and I love making cookies, so for this book to literally have TWO MC's making and decorating cookies was such a terrific surprise and was so wonderful to read about! As someone who baked, the baking scenes were accurate and described quite well!
There are certain moments where you're going to think Cameron's a bit of a jerk, and not going to lie, he was. But! Once you keep reading, you'll realize that it isn't intentional and he doesn't mean to come across in a mean way. I appreciated how even though both of these men made mistakes, they forgave each other.
I wouldn't classify this as a Christmas book, but the holidays are mentioned every so often, so if that's something you're curious about there you go!
P.S. I want to bake cookies now...
~~~I received an early copy of this book and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.~~~
"Cameron Walker was the most awkward turtle I'd ever met."
Short and gingerbread-sweet romance between the new guy in town and the awkward librarian who's well known for his gingerbread house skills. Cameron consistently misinterprets and misunderstands what Finn is saying to him, so their relationship just fumbles along for a while until Cameron makes a careless mistake. When Cameron takes the time to help Finn with his recovery, the two men find their stride and unlock their crushes and attraction for one another, and realize on how many different levels they actually fit.
Ginger Snapped was a fantastic read and a really fun holiday treat, except for one very unnecessarily vivid scene with the cat. 😬 I loved Cameron & Finn and I had fun imagining how their future would go after I finished their sweet epilogue.
I received an authorized copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
While it was cute enough, I think, I thought this was too short for me to believe the progress of their relationship. Cameron was awkward and I didn't believe Finn thought of it as adorable.
There was too many mishaps, including one with Cameron actually ... and there wasn't enough time for them to really bounce back to friendship and then boyfriend. So yeah, this was just OKAY for me.
Thank you Baba Yaga's Little Imp from Goodreads Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2025 for this book
This was a fun one! Short and sweet but very entertaining and quite funny. Finn and Cameron got off on the wrong foot and it was amusing that things sort of stayed awkward between them for a bit.
The story had rival bakers, loads of yummy sounding baked goods, a little hurt/comfort, only one bed, and a snowstorm. All the good stuff!
Ginger Snapped An MM Holiday Romance By Sarah Honey
This is a sweet, not quite enemies to lovers story set in Vermont. It has an evil, forced proximity, and a happily ever after ending.
Cameron is an awkward librarian that loves to bake, and win the annual gingerbread contest. He’s newly single and dad to a very grumpy cat. He and Finn Kelly meet in a very not quite meet cute. Cam isn’t sure what to make of Finn. Is he actually flirting or just trying to make fun of him?
I thought this story was so cute! I am all for holiday romances and am ready for each and every holiday romance to come out this year. I adore Cameron and totally get his baking fixation. Baking just makes me feel better. I actually plan to try the gingerbread recipe this year. Finn is a cutie pie and I really like the way he helps Sherri out with tips on icing. When Finn tells Cameron his ex is an idiot, I cheered. When he closed the blind on the lady at the bakery, I laughed. Cameron and Finn’s ending is the cutest ending of a romance yet.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
What is not to like about this story? You have two men, Finn and Cameron, who are bakers and are competitors in the town's annual Gingerbread House contest/ One thing leads to another, and you have a very happy HEA.
One of my favorite things about this book is that Cameron, the Gingerbread King of four years standing, has a cat named Asshole. The name fits well. Cameron is socially awkward, introverted, and carries some baggage from his cheating last boyfriend. He bakes very well, and apparently Asshole feels the need to contribute to that by knocking the bag of flour on the floor, breaking dishes, and putting cat butt on fondant, making it garbage. I laughed because I could picture my mom’s old cat doing the same thing. Cam is making a fondant run (after said cat butt issue), only to have the last containers of fondant taken by some cute new guy. That’s Finn, who works at the sawmill after escaping a toxic job at a bakery. He came to Sugar Hollow to start over. Of course, he ends up ramming Cam with a cart, stealing all the fondant, and laughing at him. At least, that’s what Cam thinks. Cam doesn’t have a good social cue system. “See, this is why I kept to myself. I had all the social skills of a potato – less, probably, because potatoes were universally loved.” I felt for Cam because yes, he’s awkward, but he’s also sweet and funny. For his part, Finn comes off as a jerk, especially in the beginning. He takes all the fondant, which he doesn’t need, and breezes off. “Maybe they’ll get more in.” Yikes. Luckily, Finn knows he was a jerk. “What the hell is wrong with me?” He got excited because for the first time in ages, he wanted to bake, and he just went with it. Whoops. The two meet a few times accidentally, and it never really goes well. Awkward comments, abuse by cart (and car), misunderstandings. I did laugh when Finn asks, “What’s your cat’s name? “Asshole” and Finn is appalled. What do you expect, with a cat named Asshole? They are going head to head for the gingerbread contest, which Finn didn’t think was a big deal but to the town it definitely is. I kept feeling so badly for Cam. I didn’t know which I hated more-the idea that he was making fun of me or that I might actually be too socially inept to see it.” I was also a little pissed at the townspeople, who jumped right into thinking the worst of Cam, even though they’ve known him forever. This started out so strong for me, and the baking aspect was right up my alley. But the whole gingerbread contest got sort of lost. For someone who won four times in a row, Cam had a terrible entry and didn’t seem to care. Once they start having sex, I felt like that was the focus instead of everything else. So while I loved the first half, the second half wasn’t as strong for me. Definitely a cute holiday story Reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews
This was the perfect novella to get me ready for the holidays, and I was a little sad when it ended because I wanted more from Cameron and Finn.
Cameron is the town librarian and is the reigning gingerbread champion, 4 years running. Small towns love their traditions, and the betting pool has Cameron going for his 5th win in a row. Finn is new to town and nobody knows that he is a professional baker who has hung up his apron looking for something new. Since moving to town, he has been inspired to start baking again and the gingerbread contest seems like the perfect way to not only spend more time with Cameron, but get his love for baking back.
Finn is a social butterfly, while Cameron is socially awkward. Their interactions seem to highlight Cameron’s awkwardness as he can’t believe that Finn would actually be interested in him.
Their story is so sweet and Asshole the cat may be Santa’s little helper in disguise in helping these two finally get together. I can’t wait to try and make Cameron’s gingerbread cookies this holiday season.
I received an ARC from the author and am happily leaving this review.
There's a new baker in Sugar Hollow, and the annual Christmas Gingerbread House Competition has long been dominated by Cameron Parker. He's a bit nervous and uncoordinated, accidentally hitting the new baker, Finn Kelly, after taking the last container of fondant. Cameron then knocked Finn down on a snowy street before volunteering to watch over him when the doctor expressed concern he might have a mild concussion.
That close contact led to a genuine chemistry between the two, and their awkward first meeting, along with their subsequent interactions, were a bit clumsy. This eventually resulted in a magical connection in a snowbound cabin. Still, these are two fierce competitors in the annual gingerbread contest… and both want to win.
Expect some twists and turns and moments of uncertainty from Cameron, who can’t believe his luck with Finn. It's a classic Sarah Honey story, with genuine angst that reflects his inner thoughts about this unexpected relationship between once-rivals.
This is a wonderful Christmas read, and if you've enjoyed Tales of Lileforth, you’ll love this short story with a very happy ending.
Ginger Snapped by Sarah Honey is a charming Christmas romance that delivers a cute and funny rivals to lovers story set in a small, picturesque snowy Vermont town. The book follows the main characters, Cameron and Finn, who repeatedly cross paths as they prepare to compete in a local gingerbread bake off. Their initial encounters are a total comedy of errors, they immediately get off on the wrong foot, followed up by Cameron accidentally hitting Finn with his car! Despite these initial mishaps, the mutual attraction between them is clear. It's so obvious that they fancy each other. Thanks to a number of unforeseen incidents, involving a mountain of snow, a shared bed, and a scene stealing cat named Asshole (very aptly named), they finally give in to their attraction and 'act' on their feelings. Let's just say they had a certain... warmth... about them. The book is a fun read, full of smiles and cuteness. The adorable connection and blossoming love story provide everything needed for a lovely Christmas tale. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I just loved Ginger Snapped by Sarah Honey. If you are looking for a small town, low angst, one-bed, snowed in, Christmas themed novella, Ginger Snapped will fit the bill.
Finn is new to Sugar Hallow and just getting his footing in the town. Cameron is the reigning gingerbread house competition winner. Finn decides to sign up for this year's contest in hopes of getting closer to Cameron.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, Finn and Cameron keep physically running into each other. One last "run in" brings them together in a more forced proximity way. During the time they are snowed in they learn more about each other and get closer.
By the time they are able to leave, they have come together as boyfriends. Boyfriends that also have a cat named Asshole. I love that cat!
I absolutely adored this book and it was just what I wanted in a holiday themed novella.
Spice: 3/5 Fun: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
Thank you to the author for providing an eARC for an honest review.
Holiday Cheer Meter: 3/5 (Where 1 is as Christmassy as 'Die Hard' and 5 is more like 'Elf')
1st person, past tense, dual PoV Cameron Walker (27), librarian Finn Kelly (30), sawmill worker
Caution: This book will have you craving some sweet treats.
I just ate this up and left no crumbs! While I dislike E2L I do adore a little adversarial rivalry and a small town gingerbread house competition was the perfect backdrop for this relationship develop against. I kicked my feet in glee at the awkward flirting and how oblivious Cameron was to Finn's interest. It was kind of fun watching these two interact with their snarky banter, and it was nice that neither was a perfect angel, they definitely alternated acting a little poorly, but without any malicious intent. I'm not the biggest fan of miscommunication, but what there was of it was pretty innocuous and silly and didn't cause a great deal of fallout since it's resolved relatively quickly.
I was provided an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
What a lovely little treat to receive ahead of the holiday season. This made me SO HUNGRY FOR COOKIES (so I made apple crumble instead, because apple season). I'm going to make the gingerbread recipe helpfully included in the book soon.
This is just what it says on the tin: a sweet, funny, spicy little love story set in a tiny town. This is a Hallmark Christmas movie cutie of a romance. Lots of tropes here, from a knockout meet cute to strangers to rivals to lovers to forced proximity with only one bed in a snowstorm in a cute little cabin in the woods.
I love everything by Sarah Honey and her books are an instaread for me. This one was no exception. Low angst and nothing but sweetness.
I’m a huge Sarah Honey fan, and this book absolutely didn’t let me down! It’s everything I want in a Christmas romance — a perfect Vermont setting straight out of a snow globe, a small town bursting with festive charm, and side characters so vivid you wish you could move there yourself.
Cameron and Finn are baking rivals thrown together in a gingerbread competition that’s as hilarious as it is heart-warming. Their chemistry sizzles beneath all the sugar and spice, delivering a sweet, gingery romance that will leave you smiling long after the last page.
Add in laugh-out-loud moments, a bit of snowed-in magic, and a cat called Asshole (who completely steals every scene he’s in), and you’ve got the perfect Christmas comfort read.
A warm, funny, utterly charming story that feels like being wrapped in a cozy blanket with a mug of hot chocolate. I loved every second of it.
Ginger Snapped has all the hallmarks of a perfect Christmas romance: a small town covered in snow, hot chocolate, festive treats, and a hint of rivalry-turned-romance. Cameron Parker, Sugar Hollow’s Gingerbread King, is adorably shy and brilliant at baking, while Finn Kelly is the confident newcomer determined to challenge him—both in the competition and in Cameron’s heart.
The “Only One Bed” scenario during the snowstorm adds just the right amount of tension and flirtation, and the story is filled with lighthearted, laugh-out-loud moments. It’s a fun, low-angst novella that captures the warmth and cheer of the holiday season.
If you’re looking for a story to make you smile and get into the Christmas spirit, this one delivers beautifully. I received a free arc copy and this is mu honest review
Finn is new in town and Cameron is awkward, so when they meet they get off on the wrong foot. It doesn’t help that Cameron is focused on winning the town gingerbread house contest a row, and Finn has entered the contest leading Cameron to view Finn as a rival.
Thanks to unfortunate, but not too serious accident, Cameron and Finn get to spend some quality time together getting to know each other. From there, it is not long until they find their happily ever after
The characters are sweet. I appreciate that Finn recognizes Cameron‘s awkwardness and doesn’t misinterpret Cameron as much as he might otherwise.
Cameron‘s coming off of a bad break up so he’s a bit wary, ultimately, he sees fins, good side and relaxes into the relationship.
This is a small town holiday romance, featuring Cameron Walker and Finn Kelly, and is a standalone book.
Cameron is a shy, four-time gingerbread champion who isn’t impressed by flirty newcomer Finn trying to take his title. When they’re snowed in together, Cameron starts to see that Finn might be more than just competition.
This is a sweet, cozy holiday romance with fun competition, gentle banter, and plenty of snowy cabin vibes. Cameron and Finn’s slow shift from rivals to something more is warm, charming, and perfect for a Christmas read.
Things to expect in this book are: Standalone book MM holiday romance Slow burn Rivals to more Small town Christmas time Grumpy x sunshine Size difference Cat pet dad Red hair Baking competition Forced proximity Snowed in Flirty outsider x shy local Spicy times Admit feelings HEA
Ginger Snapped is about Cameron, who is four times gingerbread champion and Finn, who just moved in the town. They meet at the bake section in grocery store, where Finn just bought all the fondant. So when Cameron gets to know that Finn is participates in the contest, they kinda start to be enemies, or Cameron thinks that Finn is laughing to him but poor Finn just tries to flirt to Cameron.
When they gets to over their misunderstanding they both realizes they like each other. This was a perfect Christmas read, I'm so ready to bake some ginger breads. Maybe I will test Cameron's famous recipe? This was a very lovely holiday themed story.
----------------------------------------------- I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
Ginger snapper was a very fun and cute holiday story. Cameron and Finn didn’t get off to the best start. They made a bad first impression on each other…and second, and third, and so on, right up until an unfortunate, but also very funny incident happened between them which resulted in forced proximity and the realisation that they weren’t as bad as they both initially thought.
The misunderstandings they had were comical, yet also frustrating, but when they finally came together they were an absolute delight. Add in a cat called Asshole, who really was her namesake - and absolutely hilarious, and it’s a very enjoyable little read.
I have read many books by Sarah Honey and have yet to find one I haven’t enjoyed.
I received this book as an ARC, but my opinions are completely my own.
Cute... I liked but didn't love this one. Maybe in part because I really don't care for the enemies-to-lovers trope, and while I wouldn't say this one totally qualifies as that, between the but I just wasn't actually feeling the chemistry between them. Sure, they both found the other one attractive, but the story rushed right through them getting together without actually showing me enough sweetness and caring to really sell me on it. Anyway, it was still cute, it just didn't really grab me by the feels, the way the perfect Christmas novella should.
I really didn't think he'd try to run him over to get rid of the competition! Sweet and lighthearted. I absolutely loved our gingerbread contest rivals. Cameron was awkwardness personified. Finn's smiling perseverance was a delight. A concussion is a new twist on the one bed trope, but it did cut through the oblivious floundering. Who could name a cat A$$h@le? Such a sweetie... no? If by that, I meant total menace. She stole the show and assisted getting our MCs into that one bed. A fun, fun read. Lots of laugh out loud moments. And I even ordered golden syrup from the Zon! I received an advanced copy of this book, this is my review. Ten out of five stars, for sure.
