Librarian Note: This is an Alternate Cover Edition for ASIN: B00EWTQIX8 - Primani.
The series is a sexy roller coaster urban fantasy romance that follows an untrained psychic and the tight group of powerful warriors charged with her journey to immortality. Dark, funny, full of twists, and steamy passion, the series proves no one is truly lost.
Budding psychic Mica is a walking miracle. After surviving a brutal attack, she vows to live each day to the fullest. Little does she know her life is no longer hers to control. When Tall, Dark, and Annoying shows up to shadow her, she’s intrigued.
Powerful and ruthless, Sean’s assigned to guard more than Mica’s body. Humanity’s future is at stake, and it’s his job to keep her on the right path. There are plans for her. Plans that’ll change everything she believes if she lives long enough to learn the truth. Guarding one human shouldn’t be this complicated, but Mica makes it anything but easy.
As the clock ticks, Sean pulls Mica deeper into the Primani world until there’s no way out, and she doesn’t want to leave.
Laurie Olerich is the author of the new Primani series. Part romance, part paranormal, part adventure...Three things she can’t live without! Laurie spent most of her life in the Northeastern United States and in Western Europe. She now lives in San Antonio, Texas, with her son and Dalmatian duo, Domino and Rambo. Desperate to escape the heat, she lives vicariously through Mica and her Primani by setting their adventures in the mountain coolness of New England and the rainy days of London. Before throwing caution to the wind and diving into a writing career, Laurie dedicated 20 years to her country by serving in the United States Air Force. Much of her time was spent around men with guns and cool toys...this explains her obsession with both.
The author immediately connects the reader to the female MC as she survives a brutal attempted date rape and murder. She had warning bells telling her the guy was bad news, but she ignored the signs and it almost cost her her life. I immediately empathized with her. It was a smart move on the author's part to start this story with a bang.
Sadly, by 10% the bang was moot and I wasn't so inclined to like the female MC.
Let me preface by saying I'm NOT blaming the victim by any means. What happened to her was wrong, period! However, you'd think that after such an experience as almost getting killed and raped, the female MC wouldn't be so trusting, wouldn't be drawn to bad boys, and would pay more attention to warning bells, right? Apparently not!
Female MC: "Dangerous stranger. I gave myself a mental slap. Dangerous men were bad. I licked my lips in anticipation even though I had no intention of kissing this guy. Was he really at my house earlier?"
Just a few weeks prior, this girl almost died at the hands of a bad boy that she really didn't know well & didn't listen to her own warning bells that something was amiss. Yet, she turns right around and is eyeing hot, stranger, danger guys that may or may not have snuck into her house earlier! This is the first clue our MC is a nitwit.
9% she's driving drunk and would've wrecked without intervention. Nitwit?
She remains reckless, obsessed with "hot" guys whom she senses something is amiss with, and blatantly ignores all forms of reality in nearly every situation she finds herself. Nitwit?
She falls "in love" with Sean even though he and his friends scare her, derail all her advances, an exhibit what's clearly not human behavior. Nitwit?
All the paranormal elements of Sean and his buddies are so obvious that a gang of kindergarten students could figure it out. But our MC forgoes questions that any damn sane person would ask and chooses to all but ignore reality for the sake of keeping her "boyfriend" (a laughable label in this situation) from being sent away. Nitwit? Even worse, the guys say several times how smart she is for figuring out tiny pieces of the equation, like they don't really live with parents. These guys have all but sparkled and grown wearhair & she's still questioning some bs cover story about the guys' parents vs all the paranormal stuff she's witnessed. Nitwit?
At one point, she's just been shot; chased by gun-carrying demons; & passed out in a car, dreamed of a field, and awoke in the car mysteriously covered in dirt from her dream. The nitwit doesn't question the "how's" or "whys" but instead muses about the fun they're about to have while at a safe house. Nitwit?
Okay, clearly the fact the female MC is a nitwit is established. So, the male MC must be better, right? Who the hell would know!?!? He is almost a mute in the story, and most of his lines are repetitive, 'must say' to advance the plot... basically - "stay away" or "I love you." He reads like a bookmark, that is so you know your place in the book.
The stalker plot point is asinine. He somehow manages to avoid a lengthy jail sentence even though he has a lengthy record and almost killed our nitwit. Then, he comes back and tries to kill her again and again! Really?
The writing itself is like someone on an acid trip. The story jumps about, skipping weeks at a time. It will be in the midst of some deep, seemingly pivotal, revelation and abruptly stop to just randomly fast forward to a different scene of no importance. Wtf?
Between long lulls of mundane high school melodramatics, the most annoying cast of characters I could ever fathom, and a plot laced with jumps and all that's nonsensical... This will go down as one of the worst books I've ever read.
I'm not trying to blast the author or be mean, but the truth isn't always rainbows and unicorns. If the author continues writing, I do hope that criticism might make I difference in any future books because this is just bad on so many levels.
Mica's mother has died and she has to leave the place she has lived all her life and move to her father's home with his second family. She is not happy about it. Being rescued after being attacked by a boy from school, Mica's life changes. Who are these protectors? Why is she changing after being around these men? I loved this book. It's the first of a series. Something is happening to Mica and she is gaining these abilities but her protectors (Sean, Declan, and Killian) do not know why. When she discovers that evil walks this earth and these men stand between it and humans, she wants to help especially since it seems her powers make her strong as well as these men when they are with her. I love Mica, Sean, Declan, and Killian. I don't know what they are, only that they are the good guys. I like Mica's friends and family. Scott, her attacker, was a believable villain. He is creepy and malicious along with his friends. They are also dumb and do not learn quickly. I'm looking forward to when they do learn their lesson. I also look forward to reading the rest of this series. Questions need to answered.
I love this series! The story is of the Primani made from the blood of arch angels and the humans they oversee and protect is a refreshing and unique read. I loved the pace of the series but at times would have liked a more in depth back story on some of the characters. The characters are strong and engaging. Each could have their own book, mix them together tho and you get one hell of a ride! The writing style took some getting used to in the first book but as the series went on the author hit her stride in Stone Angel. For a first, the series is fantastic and overall a great read. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Primani was recommended to me and I'm so glad it was, at first it seemed to lack continuity but then as I continued reading it started to come together. The Angels Killian Sean and Dec vied for pole position in my heart and Sean won. The story is riveting Angels and Demons fighting to protect humans I slept knowing I was safe!! I could not put it down, quickly moving on to book too more like this I hope
Okay! So this book rocked hard! Laurie has created a world where love, family, and the powers of the Heavens dominate! A must read! If you don't fall in love with Primani..... your crazy.
This book is amazing! It had romance, action, suspense! I fell in love with the characters. I didn't want to put the book down because I was always wondering what's going to happen next! Loved it!
I just ordered book #2 because I'm so frustrated from unanswered questions from part one. I have to say its good to read a trilogy with books with over 400 pages each book.
The problem with this book which lost it stars was that it didn't answer things you waited for even when the Chapter said they would be answered. Mica is an 18 year old girl who we meet in the beginning who is beaten and tortured by a crazy guy and rescued by 3 mysterious guys. She wakes in the hospital badly injured with no idea how she got there. She does remember what happened. One guy Sean starts constantly showing up when she's in trouble. Eventually the other two do too. Killian and Dec. The three of them look dangerous and big and she can't figure out what they are doing in her life. We do know they are warriors.
Now the answers I never got answered where...
What exactly kind of paranormal beings are they? I did find out they hunt demons and are good guys but are they angels? Men from another planet??? Warriors from the Gods Things that are said confuse you on many things they could be.
Next the blurb says they are assigned to see her through her immortality. Then in the book they say they don't know what their purpose is that all they know is they were told to watch and protect her about a year ago. The book caught my interest but felt it was a little drawn out. Ithink I felt that way because of the frustration of not knowing exactly what these guys where?????
I started this series on book #4-Broken Souls. I have to say, I see the improvement in writing in book 4. Though I do feel it could be the portrayal of the main character 'Mica Thomas' who is a teen. It portrays her view often in this book. So I did often feel like I was in the head of a teenager. I found a few inconsistencies in the reactions between Mica and her parents. One minute they were nonchalant of her disappearing for days then next upset...I didn't quite get that. But I looked beyond it. I really like this series. This book only seem to have it's moments of when the main character would babble in her head about nothing to do with the story. I was a teen once! I did that so that's where I say it could be just the main character . Outside of that I loved it! Can't wait to move to the next book. :)
I tried to finish this book. Thinking it would get better, but the more I read the more I got confused and lost. The writing was terrible, none of it made sense to me. Is Sean an Angel? It says he's not but then it says he is and he fights Demons. I thought they were military experiments because that is what they said near the beginning.
The author kept jumping around in the story too, I got lost at what was happening. I wanted to finish the book but I just couldn't. I made it to page 258 before I gave up.
The main girl is really stupid and forgetful. And when I mean stupid I mean really stupid and clueless. She wakes up in the hospital, left for dead. All because she was flirting with a guy who she didn't really know and he offered a ride and she was literally "Sure!!!! See us bff! Ima go with the bad boy!" And he tries to kill her.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I didn’t like Primani that much because 1. I did not find the premise of the story that compelling, 2. I found the heroine, Mica, not very likable, and 3. This is another story where the teenage girl spends an inordinate amount of time telling us how hot her boyfriend is. This is especially annoying given how many other problems she has.
I discovered the book on Goodreads several years ago. I think it was promoted as a Paranormal Romance, which seems an accurate description. It seems to be reasonably well-written, and well-edited; at least I didn’t notice grammatical errors or missing or extra words in large enough quantities to detract from the story.
Mica is devastated by the death of her mother. This, for some reason, leads her to engage in all kinds of incredibly risky behaviors. It’s like she has a death wish. One of her first, and worst, is taking up with a guy on a motorcycle who winds up beating her senseless and almost raping her. She is rescued by an incredibly handsome man with what appears to be superhuman skills, who then disappears.
For whatever reason, though, he doesn’t stay away too long. And he and a couple of other guys, who claim to be his brothers, have to rescue her from other dangerous situations several times in the next few months.
I thought at first they were going to turn out to be guardian angels. But no, they just work for angels. They are part of some military force (which I didn’t understand all that well; this was the part of the premise that bothered me).
Apparently, Mica is some special kind of person or has some special kind of powers that are what drew their attention to her in the first place. This part wasn’t really clear either. She fell in love with the first guy who rescued her and had fits until he fell in love with her too. This both did and didn’t help him out. He ends up lost. But not to worry – there are lots of other books in the series, so hopefully, she will find him again. However, I won’t be reading any more of these.
Laurie Olerich was ahead of the times with Reverse Harems. I loved the new take on a paranormal hero, the Primani. So hawt and alpha, each in their own way, fighting demons to save earth. Our female lead, Micca, is hilarious, a survivor, and badass. I look forward to seeing their journey grow.
I hate that Goodreads doesn't offer halfs - I'd give this book 4.5. It started off great with an excellent story but I wasn't totally hooked. I was enjoying it but couldn't seem to "connect" with the characters. Close to half way through I was sooooo hooked!!! I couldn't put it down. I've fallen madly in love with Sean, Killian & Dec - I can't even pick a favorite. Although I admit I have a thing for the tortured bad boy <3 Killian. And Mica totally grew on me! She got tough & strong and I fell in love with her too! I've just finished book one and am buying book two NOW (and 3 & 4 of course) I can't wait to see where this story goes. Fantastic job Laurie! P.S. - Just read it a second time and LOVED IT EVEN MORE!!!!
This is a story about Mica, a young girl and a survivor. She has endured a lot in her young life - the death of her mom and a brutal attack. As Mica tries to get her life back to normal, she discovers that there was more happening in her life than she thought. The sudden appearance of Sean and his "brothers" Dec and Killian in her life becomes a mystery that Mica is trying to unravel. What she discovers changes her life forever.
I have had this book in my kindle hoard for a long time. I don't know what I was waiting for! Once I got started, I found it hard to put it down. The story took a little bit to build, but once it did, I was hooked. It had a little romance, paranormal elements and action. Loved Sean, Dec and Killian. I cannot wait to start the next book in the series.
I enjoyed this book a lot. The writing was vivid and really helped you to place yourself in the scene. I enjoyed the plot line and really liked how we got to see the main character Mica develop.
I found that the scene transitions were too abrupt and that there were pieces of the story that were just left to hang. It seemed like characters and events were 'inconvenient' and so were never addressed or brought up again. I'm all for leaving the reader guessing (that's what draws you in). It was frustrating to see something crazy happen and the characters in the book barely questioned it or tried to discover the how's and why's.
I'm hoping to see some answers in the following books and I'm excited to see what happens next in this series!
I received this book free from goodreads first reads
Mica is a girl who recently lost her mother so she has to move in with her father and stepmother. She gets attacked and left for dead. Then sean, dec and killian appear and protect mica from anything that wants to do her harm. They have their hands full because mica is always in danger. Eventually her and sean like each other, but there are secrets that sean keeps from mica to keep her safe. I loved this book! I actually liked killian the best out of the three guys. I'm defently going to get the others in this series, and I will be reading it again!!! I think I might of found a new fav author.
This book had it all: action, thrills, good guys, bad guys, family, friends, love and many forms of the power of thought. Sexual tension was high and there was consummation. It started out a little slow and juvenile, but like the lead female character, the book grew and came into it's own. There is a cliff hanger (I hate it when that happens), but it was a good place to end the first book.
Would I recommend it? Yes Will I read the rest of the series? Most definitely!
I was lucky enough to win a copy of this through goodread's first reads so thank you. This action packed paranormal romance tells the story of Mica Thomas who, at the beginning has been savagely attacked and left for dead, and after Sean and his family move into the small town she lives in his already chaotic life is about to get even more eventful. A little slow in places but a really good debut, will leave you with so many question that you will have to read the next one. Can't wait.
Kind of slow to start, but once it got going, really liked it. Looking forward to next book in series. Still many unanswered questions for me, so am looking forward to learning more about the characters. Strong novel for a self-published debut (transitions sometimes felt abrupt, but strong character development made up for it). It is a good mix of urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and adventure.
Review copy provided via Reading Alley in exchange for an honest review.
I love a strong female lead character and Mica sure fits the bill. After surviving a brutal attack she vows not to be a victim again. All the lead characters were well developed and written. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could, I look forward to reading the next installment of the series.
Unique, fast-paced read with butt kicking action and captivating relationships.
I enjoyed Primani (received in Goodreads First Reads Giveaway). I currently live in upstate New York, so I enjoyed the references to familiar places. Thank you again for the opportunity to read Primani...I will be continuing the series!
This book....WOW. I was totaly hooked, it was a little slow to start but then it grabs you. I couldn't stop reading. Everybody has their opinions, but I liked it, it just made me sad lol. Good book for me though.
I really wasn't sure about this book when I bought it. Angels and Demons really weren't my thing, but the premise intrigued me. Mica seems to get herself into many life-threatening positions, keeping Sean the Primani assigned to her busy. Not only is Mica young, she is also a dare-devil and she has set her eyes on this Primani for more than just protection. A rollercoaster of emotions, with danger at every turn as Mica challenges Sean every chance she gets. Laughter, tears and extreme heat in more ways than one, make this a must read.
I really do like this story. Sean is the typical serious soldier until Mica gets under his skin. I enjoyed how she gets him to open up. The torture bit from the psycho Scott was definitely not enjoyable, but I loved how Mica used the experience to get stronger. It also put Sean in Mica's life and changed it forever. There are still mysteries however and cliffhangers are really annoying.
now i am hooked. This was such a great, easy and creative book. i was hooked after the first page.
The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story. the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.
i would highly recommend this author and this book.
Left me hanging till I can get the next one, but oh so worth it. Love is more powerful, then demons, this book proves it. Hang on to that comfy couch. This book gives you all the twists and turns that is truly needed. Buy this and you won't regret it one bit.
