Samantha Bradford is on a quest to take back her life and release her inner sex goddess.
At thirty-two, with a body that’s seventy pounds lighter (and counting), she’s determined to start tackling her “bucket list” items one by one, starting with a crazy pole dancing class she’s signed up for.
The “Single Wide Female” books are written for every woman out there who has struggled with their weight, self-esteem and any number of issues that we all face as we work to become the best versions of ourselves that we can be.
They are meant to be light-hearted and fun, but I do hope that they will inspire you to live your life to the fullest, loving yourself completely as you do so.
Learn Pole Dancing (Single Wide Female: The Bucket List #1) by Lillianna Blake This is a short book about a gal that loses a lot of weight and has a bucket list to start. She is finally feeling good about herself and decides to learn to Pole Dance. It is quite funny what happens. The real underlying message is for women to feel good about themselves regardless of body size or what they do for a living. I thought it was well done and empowering without being preachy.
I saw this for free on Amazon and thought it looked fun. I wasn't wrong either! I literally laughed out loud at one point just picturing a moment in Samantha's life. It was so funny, I even shared it with the hubby. I would pay to read more, and it looks like I will because no more are free. It's worth it though. Samantha is a relatable character, and her "bucket list" sounds like a ride I want to be on! Even if only through reading. A short but cute read! I definitely recommend!
I decided to wait until I was completely caught up to write my review. I stumbled upon this series because the first one was free & it sounded fun and light. A quick read that would lighten things. I was wrong and right in that assumption.
These books are quick reads. Roughly 40-45 pages each but I don't feel that there is anything lacking within those pages.
I was wrong about the books being all light. There is a powerful message in this series for any woman who has doubted herself, has secreted her love for a friend that she wants to be more, who has struggled with her weight and her position in life.
Sammy is a 32 year old single woman who makes a bucket list of all the things she wants to do that scare her. She is not dying, she is living and learning to love herself. Powerful message!
I connected with Sammy straight away. I saw myself in her in many ways (especially the klutz she is...lol). Having finished the first 12 of this series I can't wait until the next set comes out!!
Take a chance on this series. You might find that it's more meaningful that you thought.
Title: #1 LEARN POLE DANCING Series: Single Wide Female: The Bucket List #1 Category /Genre: BBW, Chick-Lit Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Received from: Amazon purchase Grammar/editing: A – near perfect
This is the first book in the Single Wide Female: The Bucket List series. They do need to be read in order.
Sammy has lost about seventy pounds and is now about 180. (That means she and I started at about the same place. I am not to 70 lbs, lost yet, but I’m working on it.) Before she lost the weight, she wrote a bucket list of sorts for when she was ready to take back her life. The first item, after losing weight, is “learn to pole dance.” What else will she learn?
I love Sammy’s best friend, Max. He loves her no matter her weight. I think we’ll find out he loves her, period. Sammy is fun, quirky, and sweet. She’ll call BS on a friend, or herself, equally as needed. I really like that about her.
This is a short story (approx. 44 pages), as is each of the other stories in this series. I kind-of like the serial format. It reminds me of old serial TV where each week was a continuation of a story. I’d love to read the rest of this series!
One is expected to buy a ridiculous number of mini books to get to the conclusion of the story line. Each book should be able to stand alone. They don't. They SHOULD be described as "chapters", not books. Not interested in being ripped off by these people.
I enjoyed it but it is really just a short story. Having listened to the first couple in this series now, it seems like it was a longer book that was chopped into chunks to make the author more money. ($4.98 for each book at Audible - and each book is under an hour.) Aside from the economic short comings of the book, I find that the story itself is pretty unrealistic and the message is muddy. I have a hard time believing that someone who has never pole danced could do what Sam does. And the "I love my body no matter what my size" is at odds with the compliments on her 70 pound weight loss and the comic device of the "Wardrobe malfunction". The story really does not stand alone well, but it was enjoyable if you think of it as a kind of screwball comedy - fluff read.
I see it is free on Kindle - if I were recommending this to a friend I would tell them it was worth it if it was free. Since I did purchase this I will comfort myself with the fact that it didn't suck, I have listened to much worse that I paid much more for, and my money will support an author - and that is something to feel good about.
This title is currently free on Amazon and the Audio upgrade was $1.99. I don’t think I would have purchased the audio if I had realized how incredibly short it was but I still very much enjoyed the quick listen as I cleaned my makeup brushes. I really enjoyed this first one, then realized it is much like a serial; a small part of a greater whole. No fear though, all 24 bucket list books are on Kindle Unlimited. They haven’t all been turned into an Audio book yet, only the first 6. Hmmm what to do…
The thing I loved about this book is; it promotes a healthy look on being body positive, no matter if you are a size 4, or a size 24. Love your body and love yourself. That’s a great positive message that needs to be promoted more to women!
I’m giving Learn Pole Dancing 4 Boundless stars; it was quick and fun listen, and I will be either reading on listening to more soon!...Sara
I needed something lite and quick to read while I was sitting outside with my feral cat and this looked cute. It is the story of a young woman that has lost 85 lbs. but is still on the well rounded side. She has a bucket list and pole dancing is on it. The story tells a little bit of her history and her funny adventure pole dancing. It wasn't easy for her to get the guts up to do it. After all, pole dancing is something only skinny busty girls do and the place is going to be full of those skinny busty girls all watching her. It really was a fun, silly story.

Review:
Learn Pole Dancing by Lillianna Blake is the first of a 24 book series and the first read by this author that I have picked up. I was looking for an easy Sunday afternoon read that would consume a short amount of time, but take me into the world of the story. On this account, I was not disappointed. What surprised me was how well I related to the main protagonist. While I may not have not lost 70 pounds, many of her struggles are those that are common: weight issues, self esteem issues, taking initiative for our own lives. So as I approached this book as a short, get away read, I was pleasantly surprised by its depth (especially given the length of the book). So much so, I have the whole 24 book anthology now and will continue reading.
Samantha is a 32-year-old, single woman who has recently lost 70 pounds – now weighing in at 180 pounds. A great accomplishment! Before the weight loss journey began, Samantha wrote up a “bucket list” of things to accomplish. First on the list was pole dancing. Now that those pounds are shed, Samantha wants to start attacking this list.
The reader is lead through Samantha’s struggles to get herself to the class and then home again. I must say (without giving anything away) that what ensues is definitely interesting and kept my attention :).
At the very bottom of the list is “Be with Max”. Now Max is Samantha’s best friend. They began working at the Fluff and Stuff back in their college days. Naturally, Samantha has a crush on her best friend. Does he know? I found it hard to say but I imagine as I make way through all of t he books in the series, this question may be answered.
I love the name of the laundromat Samantha (as the manager) works in – the Fluff and Stuff. Cute name! Samantha has worked hard over the years to add some other offerings at the Fluff and Stuff. Besides having your laundry done, you can also shop for those “one of a kind” finds.
Working the way through the book, I could relate with Samantha’s struggles and how she coped. I imagine readers many can relate. This story tackles numerous topics in a dignified manner (example: coming to terms with a “new” body after weight loss) along with a dash on humour.
This book is so short that it ends 63% of the way into the story, just as it was getting good.
In all fairness, this was a bonus book, but it ended after the completion of one item on "the bucket list" was completed, and at the beginning of the second item on "the bucket list," just as it was getting good. I wasn't expecting that it would stop midway through and that the rest of the book (37%), would be bits and pieces of author's notes, and previews of other books in the series. The premise for the story was great, but the execution of the storytelling was sadly disappointing and lacking.
I enjoyed the bubbly enthusiasm of the main character and the progression through her first item on her bucket list. The dialogue and characters carried me past the ‘overweight girl loses weight and THEN begins to accept herself’. I especially enjoyed the glass frog tale. I took off a star because I just don’t like the new partial book sales at Amazon. I just want to get a book. A whole book. I never was one for the ‘tune in next time for the next chapter of our story’ kind of thing. Cute story, though.
This was a fast read full of quirky and fun happenings of this single female who is trying to restart her life. She has made herself a bucket list of the things she would do if she lost weight and now that time is here. Some of the items are very meaningful, and some are just fun and games. And, one involves another person who has been her special friend and rock for a long, long time.
Thoroughly enjoyed Lillianna Blake's take on some really funny events. They will definitely bring a smile to your face.
Very funny! First book out of 24. I actually chuckled out loud while reading this. I will definitely be getting the other 23 books now! Only frustration was at the end of the book. The author asks you to click onto her website and if you enter your name and email, you will receive the next book for free. I have not received the email yet. But I am sure it is just a slow thing and I need to learn patience...😃
I have to say, I was expecting more out of this. The series is called Single Wide Female so I figured it would be a fun series about a plus sized woman being confident. Not a 180 pound woman who is still on her weight loss journey. Idk. It was light and fun and had a promising romance with a fun concept. But I just feel like a lot of the inner monologue body views just made me uncomfortable.
I really like that it's about a larger woman trying to improve herself for herself & realizing she should love who she is!! I enjoy the humor also. Trying to decide if I should purchase all 24 books in the series or not!! 😱😱 Looks like there are more even after those ones...I highly enjoyed it so I probably will read the rest!! 😀
I'm disappointed. :-( This "book" is utterly delightful but I had no idea it wasn't an actual book when I started it. It's just a few chapters long, like a sneak peek. :-( Other than that what I read was witty, lighthearted and genuine. I would have enjoyed reading the entire book.
Funny and poignant. A bucket list is a map depicting where you want to go, while pole dancing may not be on everyone's list, it makes sense. A funny book with the author writing with a deep sense of self and sense of humor. Recommended for anyone looking for a direction to take.
I was genuinely disappointed when I reached the end of this delightfully body-positive novella. I love Sammy and hope she finds a wonderful conclusion to her journey.
Super quick to read--less of a book than a short story. Interesting but a bit on the risque side for me. I actually got the 6-book bundle on Kindle and didn't realize that it was considered 6 books, because each "book" is more like a chapter. Still was an interesting idea and a fun, light read.
Not really into these types of books, but needed a quick funny read and that's what I got. Probably will not read any more books but nice to fall into Sam's world for a bit
