If a treasure cannot be seen... does it even exist?
When Daring Do visits her old pal A. B. Ravenhoof, the ex-adventurer reveals that there may be more in the sky than meets the eye...
Somewhere above Equestria floats a cloud city completely hidden from sight by ancient magic. Legend says the hidden kingdom is home to a unique type of Pegasus, along with a mysterious treasure called the Halo of Cirrostrata.
As soon as she learns about it, Daring Do can't get her head out of the clouds! She has to see it. But how?
Many dangers await those who try to enter the forbidden city of Cirrostrata.
Can the brave adventurer find the secret island in the air, even if it means flying blind?
Gillian M. Berrow (G.M. Berrow) is a writer and television industry professional living in Brooklyn, New York. When she was little, she aspired to become either a princess or a magical pony. Things seem to be right on schedule.
My oldest child is a reluctant reader. She does enjoy books, but not the reading. Last year I read to her one of the other books in this series and also one of the Equestria Girls books. Last year these books were beyond her capability. Now after reading together most days over the last year she can rip through this book if she so desires. But typically we read together and we alternate pages and read a few chapters a night.
No as a man in my mid 40's these books would not be on my 'to be read list', if I was not reading them with my daughter. But even with saying that we both enjoy the stories and have now read three of the Daring Do books. This book reads like Indiana Jones, as a female pony. Daring do is a Pegasus pony, which means she is not only a pony but can fly. And those wings have got her out of more than one scrape. A.K. Yearling is a pen name for the main character, and appears in a number of the TV episodes either by reference or in person (pony). These stories are well enough written to keep my attention, which to be honest surprised me. My daughter loved them, so if I am reading them to her or we are reading them together it is a win.
In this book, Daring tries to find a treasure that is not only hidden, but supposedly hidden in a mythical city of clouds. Talk about a mystery wrapped up in an adventure. Can Daring find the city of Cirrostrata? Can she trust the retired adventurer that A.B. Ravenhood director her towards? Or will this just turn out to be clouds and mirrors?
I find it hard to believe buy I enjoyed this book. And my daughter loved it. I will likely read it again in a few years with my youngest, and do so without regret. We have thoroughly enjoyed this book and the three Daring Do books we have read to date. I hope more become available soon.
Wow, what a poorly done children's book. The story was totally disjointed and I kept picturing the publisher talking with the ghostwriter: "Seriously, it's My Little Pony. We have a built in audience. Just write ANYTHING." Action kept happening off the page. Like, Daring Do would have a conversation with one of the other characters about something, and then the chapter would end, and the next one would start up with "Now that I had rid Cloudsdale of the monster Triceratops" (or WHATEVER) and I'd be like wait, what happened? When? I didn't see that. And it just felt like a huge freaking mess. I will not be recommending this series for the library.
Mostly a fun read that gives Daring Do a little more characterization and doesn’t make her overly perfect. The last few chapters are quite rushed, and the Count that is mentioned a few times and even described as malevolent never appears and no supporting facts are given so they’re just a name. Strange move for the character the book keeps trying to get the reader to feel is the antagonist of the story. Also, “Epsom salt-lick” is a very unfortunate phrase.
Enjoyable and kept me reading, but there were some things that were kind of sad, but easy to identify. "Daring Do found a comfortable room for the night at a charming pub and inn called the Ciderin' Stein." Reference to pub. "North Star grumbled and spit a large wad of apple chewing taffy on the ground." Possible reference to chewing tobacco.
When my youngest daughter (5) found this book at Ollie’s Bargain Center she was so excited. I was, I admit, surprised to see that it was actually a physical book series. I know that they series exists in the My Little Pony Universe. Of course I had to buy it for her and at 2.99 I will never say to a book. She was so excited to read it and as a kindergartener she isn’t able to read it herself. I was more than happy to read it to her, even my older two kids (8&9) really got into the book and wanted me to read more chapters than what I did each night.
Daring Do is on another adventure. She battles the bad treasure hunters who are only looking for the treasures for their own profit. She gets a tip that she needs to search for a cloud city to find the last Halo. She learns that she needs to track down Brumby. Once she finds him she is able with his help locate the cloud city. Will Daring Do be able to help cloud city and retrieve the Halo? This book was really entertaining. My only big gripe about it that the book feels like it is one big barf of a dictionary. I know the book is geared for younger kids and they should expand their vocabulary but some of the words were a bit much.
The book is exciting and full of action. It really kept my kids engaged the entire time. I really liked having a story about Daring Do. The show has her in it in a few episodes but having a full series about her is wonderful. I really can’t wait to get more of these books for my kids. My youngest has asked for more of her books for Christmas.
I didn't find this one as interesting as the last one we read. I felt that the adventure part fell a little bit flat, but it was still enjoyable. I read it out loud to my five year old and she enjoyed it immensely.
I liked reading a daring do book. Ever since I watched rainbow dash and twilight sparkle reading and talking about It I wanted to see if there was a daring do book out there and I found it at my library soo .. I read it was good glade I tried it out.
I really enjoyed this series, but I so wish there were more. This book felt like there was so much build up for very little pay off in the end and I find myself wishing this book was a little longer as well, but overall this was a very enjoyable little series and I had a lot of fun with it!
This one was by far my favourite! The unicorns of Alto Terre sound so pretty and the Pegasi of Cirrostrata sound so damn adorable. Was definitely a super fun read.
I thought this book was amazing. I even wanted to finish it. I don’t really like books. I’m forced to read, but this one, I wanted to read. I’m very glad I found a book I wanted to read.
This is the weakest book out of the three, because there’s not really a lot of building tension. This is largely because there isn’t really a villain in this book, and the stakes don’t really seem to be all that high. Not to say I didn’t enjoy the book, as I did.
Each Daring Do book really helps to expand the world of Equestria, and this one is no exception. I loved the Wild West feel at the beginning of the book, and the other places Daring visits are interesting as well.
This book has the same problem as the other two, with occasionally shifting POV without warning.
I kind of feel like this book should have been the first of the three, because of the ending. It makes way for a ton of other Daring Do adventures, though who knows if we’ll ever get those.
So, I really enjoyed this book, as Daring Do is a fun character to follow around, but I wish more had been at stake, such as with the other two books.
Quick and fun read. Of the three Daring Do books in the Daring Do collection this is my favorite, setting up a possibility of up to 18 more Daring Do adventures. I can't wait to read them all.
It was a cute read and the first Daring Do book I've read. I was surprised by how much action was packed into it, considering how little is put into the show.
This one was a fun, quick read featuring the "Indiana Jones" of Equestria.
Daring is an explorer/adventurer and she hunts down all these ancient artifacts and discovers lost civilizations. The obvious homage to a favorite fictional archaeologist/anthropologist is fun, and the adventure itself has it's own twists that keep everything exciting.
It's all written in a style appropriate for elementary or middle school kids. I recommend it if you'd like an adventure set in the MLP universe.
Notes:
I'm kinda curious about the issue of longevity in Equestria: like, who exactly decides which ponies get to be immortal while the rest of them seem to live normal lifespans?
The ending of this book has some interesting suggestions: Basically people who achieve legendary feats, and who have a reason to stay alive, will stay alive as long as they need to.
Daring Do is invited to join an order of ponies who, by the sound of it, are perpetual in this way.
This kinda runs against some of the MLP fan-theories that Twilight Sparkle is the only one of the mane six who is immortal. While I kinda think the tragedy implied in that theory is interesting to explore, I think it's pretty well implied that you don't have to be an alicorn to achieve this kind of longevity.
The mane six are already legendary beings in their particular specialties. It makes more since that the Princesses, Celestia and Luna, are grooming them up to take their place. Eventually they'll retire and hand the reins over to them, and they'll become revered as the new Pantheon of Equestria.
This is my favorite Daring Do book by far. I enjoyed the many adventures that she went on in this book. I have always loved the images written out and how descriptive they are. Excellent.
