Destiny has chosen Skylar. Now it might destroy her.
Skylar is a girl with extraordinary power. A girl with a mission to use her Greater-Than gifts to stop the makers of Destiny from getting people hooked on their deadly drug. But Sky is still mastering her new abilities, and her first mission to destroy a Destiny lab leaves her best friend addicted to the drug. For a few days, Cal will be able to walk again—until it kills him. Time is running out for Sky to save the world, to protect her friends, to become truly Greater-Than…
After childhood plans to become the captain of a starship didn’t pan out, Suzanne Brockmann took her fascination with military history, her respect for the men and women who serve, her reverence for diversity, and her love of storytelling, and explored brave new worlds as a bestselling romance author.
Over the past thirty years she has written sixty-three novels, including her award-winning Troubleshooters series about Navy SEAL heroes and the women—and sometimes men—who win their hearts. Her personal favorite is the one where her most popular character, gay FBI agent Jules Cassidy, wins his happily-ever-after and marries the man of his dreams. Called All Through the Night, this mainstream romance novel with a hero and a hero hit the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list. In 2007, Suz donated all of her earnings from this book, in perpetuity, to MassEquality, to help win and preserve equal marriage rights in Massachusetts.
In addition to writing books, Suz writes and produces indie movies and TV including the award-winning romantic comedy The Perfect Wedding. Her recent feature, Out of Body, is streaming on Amazon Prime.
In 2018, Suz was given the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romance Writers of America. Her latest projects are Blame It on Rio (Tall, Dark & Dangerous # 14), available in print and e-book from Suzanne Brockmann Books, and Marriage of Inconvenience, a six-episode LBGTQ rom-com TV series, streaming on Dekkoo in April 2023.
Skylar Reid is a "greater-than"...a person with special powers. She must keep these powers hidden because GT's are sometimes captured. Their blood is used to make a highly addictive drug called Destiny that kills its user in a matter of days. Sky has teamed with her best friend Calvin, her boyfriend Milo, and another GT named Dana, to find Dan's sister who was taken years ago. As they follow the clues to where some of the kidnapped girls may be hidden, Calvin is accidentally injected with Destiny. Now it's a race against time to find Dana's sister and save Calvin before the drug kills him.
This is the final book in the Night Sky series. The story started out very slow. Sky kept going on and on about Milo and wondering if he was drifting away from her. I ended up changing the speed on my audiobook in hopes to get through this portion and get to the meat of the story. Luckily, the story picked up when Calvin was injected with Destiny. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
We hear it all the time, just say no to drugs, but Destiny has too strong of a pull on its users, from the great high plummeting down into possible insanity, even its risks make it more desirable. For Skylar Reid, a “Greater-Than,” it means her life’s blood is a hot commodity to be taken and mixed to make the infamous Destiny. Since coming to term with her powers, her life has been an emotional rollercoaster and now she finds that even her friends are not immune to the danger she lives with. Vampires and humans alike will die if she does not get to the bottom of this evil drug production and its creators. But how?
Wild Sky by the writing team of Suzanne and Melanie Brockmann is a frightening look at vampires with special gifts under siege, being drained of their blood to create a deadly high. This is definitely a different take on today’s vampire. The weight of success weighs heavily on this teen’s shoulders as she struggles to gain full control of her unique powers. From a few angst-filled moments to action-packed pages, a battle is being waged in a world of supernaturals that is bother deadly and dangerous. Is Skylar up to the challenge? Great action scenes, good characterizations and some realistic dialogue make this a keeper on the to be read list along with the rest of the series. I enjoyed it, the pacing was great and there is definitely one more reason to just say no to drugs and vampire blood.

Wild Sky, the second installment of the Night Sky series, pulls us back into Sky, Calvin, Dana, and Milo’s world. While the gang is still focused on finding Dana’s sister, Lacy, there are a lot of obstacles in their way with the repercussions of being a Destiny addict is at the center of it all. With this book, I think the series is finally gaining some momentum. Night Sky was very character driven; in this one, there was more of a balance with the characters and the plot driving the story. I had a hard time getting into it at first. Sky and Milo’s connection seems to have increased significantly since the first book, and it was a bit jarring for me. Their romance was more of a backdrop in the previous book, but there were times when it took center stage here, and I’m not sure the story was ready for that. I would have liked there to be more of a build. Calvin’s trademark humor and wit were here, and Dana’s intensity and hard-assness were present as well.
Once you get past the beginning, the pacing of the story really picks up, and it’s steady the entire way through. The authors gave us quite a few surprises in this one (there was even a ‘drop your Kindle while your jaw hits the floor’ moment,) and some characters I didn’t expect to see again popped up. We were also introduced to a new character who I think is going to play a big part in the books to come, and I am most excited to see him again! He’s going to add a lot of depth to the story and be a fountain of knowledge for Sky and the others.
While Wild Sky took a bit to get into, it was ultimately worth the read. I think once the series is underway, it’s going to become apparent why this book is so significant. If you’re a fan of Night Sky, you won’t want to miss this one. I’m excited to see what comes next!

I am just getting back into reading YA/Paranormal and I am so glad I started reading this series. I am hooked on the series from book 1 and hope there will be more to come soon! I love the whole concept of the Greater-thans and why they need to look out for each other. Their blood being used for a drug called Destiny. It will make the user younger and have mighty Greater-than powers only to then joker, go crazy and pretty much self-combust or at least kill themselves in a horrible death along with anyone around them. This book I found really revolved around Skylar and her feelings with Milo. She is still young and learning this relationship while learning her new powers. Milo has a dark past and is holding back at the moment from Skylar. I love Cal and Dana, it was fun to see how their relationship played out in book two and how Garret was part of the gang this time around.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I can't wait for another book in the series or I will need to read more from these authors.
Looks like the Brockmann team have come up with a new idea of vampires. Good, I was getting a little bored of the old ones. Seems as if they are everywhere anymore. These are a definitely a different breed in the fact that they breed certain "Greater Than" (mostly women) with specific gifts (everyone's is different) and keep them in a closet and drain their blood slowly and mix it with a few other things and inject it into their system. Supposedly, it's a great high. But after a while, it will kill you. But it's great while it lasts.
Apparently, this was the second book in this series and while I did not read the first book, it was mentioned several times and I got the gist of what I missed for the most part. However, I still don't know what happened to turn the world into how it became the way it is in this book. I do think that did lead to lesser enjoyment of this book. Nonetheless, I did find the book somewhat entertaining. Sometimes, Sky's whining got on my nerves a few times. But apparently, the authors were just trying to make it real and it is about teenagers. It could have been a little more enjoyable with all the reality for me though.
It is certainly a different perspective of a dystopian novel and I did find it for the most part entertaining. I think not reading the first book, put a damper on some of my understanding of what was actually going on in this world of the Brockmann's and felt kind of left out of a few things. Apparently, the way it was left, there will be a third in the series and I'm not sure if I will be reading it or not. I'm still feeling kind of like something happened and I was left out of the loop.
Thanks to Sourcebooks and Net Galley for the free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.
Skylar and her friends are battling for their lives. And the emergencies are piling up. They are still looking for Dana's sister and during their search they learn of another Greater Than, who needs rescuing.
Why I started this book: I downloaded it from the library and knew that I needed to read it before it expired.
Why I finished it: The story moves along, but I really prefer Brockmann's adult series, even the one set in this world.
I thought this one was better than the first, but it was still filled full of teen angst, that got old fast. There were things that I really liked, what happened to Cal. I liked that he got a chance to break free of his chair, even as I hated how that chance seemed to change him. I hope that the end results are things that he can live with. I liked the new additions to the motley team, Garrett, the douche, and Morgan, who I hope sticks around. I like that Dana found what she was looking for, but have a feeling that things won't be as happy as she has been expecting, but more fraught full of crap. It will be interesting to see where things go from here.
I enjoyed this second installment of the Sky series. Dana and Milo were filled out as characters. And Calvin is as always the Master of the would you rather game. The team worked to enhance each other both in good and bad times. It was action packed to suit everyone's tastes But with enough tender and witty moments to satisfy my romantic side.
I hope there will be many more ventures into the Destiny world both as YA and Adult. I find myself going back to Born to Darkness and the Night sky over and over. I'm sure this will be added to my favorite list.
This is the second book in the Night Sky series by Suzanne and Melanie Brockmann. I was glad that we got more of Sklyar, Milo, Calvin and Dana in this book. I thought the plot in this one flowed really well and kept your attention throughout.
Dana is training Skylar to use her new found powers of being a Greater Than in this book. They are all still on the hunt for the makers of Destiny to be able to get Dana's little sister back. When another school associate of Skylar and Calvin's pushes his way in to the search, they are not to fond of it. Garrett is known as a bully and they are not fond of him, not him being in their search group. Garrett needs to find Jilly. Garrett is willing to do whatever and even offers money for their help.
In this story Milo and Skylar's relationship blossoms more than I thought it would for sure. I loved getting to see them grow closer to each other in this story.
Calvin, Skylar's friend that is in the wheelchair, is accidentally injected with the drug Destiny. Calvin doesn't really care though because he can walk again. What Skylar has to figure out is how to get it to where when Calvin comes off the drug, he does not have the side effects that most people do. This drug will eventually kill him!
Garrett ends up joining the gang, offering help and money, as long as they can help try to find Jilly. After spying on Garrett place, where his step mom lives, the gang manages to go and try to rescue Jilly. Unfortunately, during the failed rescue attempt, Calvin is accidently injected with Destiny, the drug that will eventually kill him. But Calvin doesn’t care, because immediately after the injection, he can now walk.
The race is on to find a way to cure Calvin before he gives into the deeper effects of the drug Destiny, to help Jilly escape, and to find Lacey, Dana’s sister. You have to read this one to find out what happens to them, especially Calvin!
Great read and I look forward to more from these two! Great team!
Just like its prequel, Wild Sky is emotionally gripping, with a winning combination of angst with a little humor to wash it down. As a person with a disability, I am happy that Calvin's happy ending did not consist of him becoming able-bodied. Morgan is a great addition to the group. I am excited to see how Sky will deal with the transactional Lacey. I love the way Ms. Brockman explores each individual's unique way of coping with adversity; Calvin with altruism, Dana and Morgan with faux transactionalism, Milo with disengagement and Lacey with genuine transactionalism? I wonder if Lacey will learn how to become part of a friendship group or will surrender to the pain that has turned her so transactional. It is great to see both Dana and Calvin so happy. These characters feel like friends. Best of all, as a person with a disability, their group feels like a group I could join, whether i was a greater than or a norm.

Another action-packed ride. Wild Sky was a blast to read and I usually don't read fantasy. It had a great concept that wasn't over complicated. It had a great transition from the first in the Night Sky series into this one to where this could easily be a standalone. It had some great teenage angst and young love, and it was a great source of inclusivity having a physically impaired main character that struggled with a plot twist but came out better because of it. It had both great twists and life lessons of acceptance, trust, and love.
Thank you to audible stories for allowing us to stream for free during the pandemic. This is the sequel or number two book in this series. It's not a bad series. Enjoyable magic type system that happens to be something inside of blood of mainly females that sounds like. This must be perhaps the middle part of a series or something because it definitely introduced a new characters and did not come to a resolution. They are able to find and rescue some more people as well as deal with destiny addiction close to home.
These 2 books have been a Summer surprise Read!!! Yes the covers caught my eye> I went into reading these without going on GoodReads. I am soo happy I didn't look at any reviews. The characters are relatable. Once again the book is a fast read. I like reading books that end up being a bit surprise. I am ending my Summer Reading with these 2 books. I didn't read alot due to school this Summer.
This is so good! It does have an unfinished feel, as if there is another book. When it comes out I will read it for sure. I actually listened to it and the reading narration was amazing!
This was a solid sci-fi series. Teenagers with powers. Secret group trying to find them all and use them. Plus a lot of relationship drama intertwined. Say less!
Wild Sky by Suzanne Brockmann and Melanie Brockmann is the 2nd book in their Night Sky series. I did not read the 1st book, but this read very well as a standalone. Any major details, including all the main characters are explained very well, when needed.
Skylar Reid is our heroine, and she is still learning how to handle the powers she has as a “Greater-Than”. A quick background: In the first book, Skylar learns she has a hormone in her blood which makes her stronger, faster, smarter. A hormone that the makers of a new drug called Destiny will murder to get their hands on. She met Dana (another Greater-Than) and Milo, who would work with her to harness those powers, and she joins them to help stop the kidnapping of young girls who are budding Greater-Thans, to bleed them dry. Calvin is Skylar’s best friend, and wheel chair bound. These four are the main characters of this series.
In Wild Sky, Dana is working hard to train Skylar, with the help of Milo and Calvin. Dana has another ulterior motive, her sister is one of those girls that were kidnapped, and she is desperate to find her. Skylar has improved her skills a lot, and Dana suspects she will become even more powerful. When Garrett , someone both Skylar and Calvin knew at school and considered him a bully, approaches them, they try to ignore him. But he pushes his way in explaining that he needs help to find a young girl who has been missing.
The race is on to find a way to cure Calvin before he succumbs to the deeper effects of the drug Destiny’ to help Jilly escape, and to find Lacey, Dana’s sister.
I thought that the beginning of the story was someone slow for me, as the characters did not really reach out to me. However, I will say that it did change a bit in the second half, which was very exciting. I will also point out that since I did not read the first book, perhaps this is why I did not feel any connections early on. This was a good story, and I suggest if you read this series, to start with the first book.
This book was kind of a let down after reading Night Sky . Skylar and Milo's relationship in this book is very irking. Skylar doesn't trust Milo because there are things in his head he wants to keep private. I find that perfectly understandable because after all they are a new couple and really he is allowed to not share his horrible childhood. Dana spends the whole book trying to find her sister Cal is still one of my favorite characters in this series. He unfortunately becomes injected with Destiny and everyone tries to save him before its too late. Another problem I had with this book is that when Cal becomes injected, Skylar makes it about her. So people are comforting her like "Oh its ok its not your fault" when they should have been concentrating more on Cal. Overall, the book was still exciting and full of adventures. The Greater- Than powers get more defined and that helped keep me interested in this book. I give this a 3.5 rating, it is still worth it to read if you were a fan of Night Sky
Love this new series. Melanie sure has followed in her Mom's footsteps (IN A GOOD WAY) and those were big expectations to live up to and she has done it in a way that no one will question her amazing talent!! Constant action, emotional roller coasters and love, what more can you ask for? Love it, cannot wait for the next one.
This Series about young adults with powers and learning not only how to deal with them on their own but also saving little girls and others that are hunted down and used to supply those who need them or just want to get younger. Problem is one dose and your addicted and that is provided you live through that first dose. This band of young adults have to count on each other and it is more important for Dana to find her sister, Lacey, who was kidnapped years ago now that they have a lead. They stick together, add another to their group, and find her but what will they find? Years of being tortured have taken a toll on her and life is not what they have been expecting. Add to that they have another girl to rescue who doesn't want to be rescued and she puts Cal's life in serious danger.
Nail biting, edge of your seat action. There are some tears to be shed but it is one of the best reads in quite a while. Enjoy!
Destiny has really hit an all time high in terms of demand and Skylar and people like her have become a hot commodity. A drug that helps reverse the aging process and makes you feel invincible and super human might sound like something that everyone would want but in reality it will eventually kill you.
The more I think about "destiny" and Skylar the more parallels I see between it and the vampire blood in "True Blood." It makes you feel invincible and powerful and I think that is always an interesting concept. People or greater than regular people being used to make normal people feel more powerful.
Again, I don't want to give too much away because it is a sequel but I will say this had a lot of fun action scenes, the character development was great and definitely moved forward in this sequel, and the dialog was refreshingly realistic for YA novel. I think that is what really stood out the most for me in this continuation.
I think the writing style was excellent and I would definitely suggest this to YA/NA paranormal and dystopian fans.
Cal has been paralyzed many years before and thought he could never walk again, then Sky, his friend, watches him stand up after taking an illegal drug. Wild Sky by Suzanne Brockmann, explores a addiction in her fictional story. The group of teens in the book are your average teens but with some unnatural powers. They try to find out who is making a harmful drug, and Sky could be the main ingredient. Some people that they know could be making the drug without them knowing. This book is suspenseful with many great plot twists. For example, when Cal, Sky’s best friend, got hit with the drug and became addicted. The author describes the characters in great detail. For example, when she described the clothes that Sky is wearing. There are many different settings and places in the book. For example, when the scenes go from the parking lot, to a building, to a laboratory, and to a hospital all in one chapter. This is a great book for people who like mystery, suspense, and fiction.
