Hi everyone and welcome to Love, Tanya! This book is really close to my heart, because it's inspired by my journey to becoming confident and feeling happy about who I am. I wanted to write a book to share the things I've learnt with you - to reveal my top tips on fashion, beauty, love, friendship, YouTube... and loads more! Plus, there is room for you to list your own hopes and dreams alongside mine - so get creative and get involved! I'd love it if this book became a keepsake you can turn to whenever you need some guidance or a little pick me up. I hope you enjoy it!
I love Tanya Burr, I really, truly do. She is one of my favourite people to watch on YouTube; her energy and zest for life are extremely contagious and I think she is just so lovely.
This book however, is vanilla as HELL.
I was really hoping for more. I thought I would find detailed information on her life, her career, how she got into YouTube... unfortunately most of Love, Tanya reads like a J-14 or Tiger Beat magazine (clearly showing my age here - does anyone actually know what Tiger Beat is?). Tanya lists her top ten makeup tips, top ten hair tips, top ten favorite places to go on a first date... it's cute but it's nothing new or informative. There's literally a step by step process for how to do a top knot - seriously?? Who doesn't know how to throw their hair on top of their head?
This book is genuinely catered to 11-15 year olds, which is all fine and good but Tanya is two years older than me and I was hoping to be able to relate to it a little! I think at one point she alludes to "being in the bedroom" with Jim and I practically gasped at the how taboo it was compared to everything else. Well I never! In the bedroom, certainly not Tanya!
She does obviously talk about her life but everything is so breezed over. She kissed a few boys and then Prince Jim appeared! She discovered makeup and then started a YouTube channel! So did Jim! Her channel got a few views and she started being managed by Gleam! Suddenly she's sitting beside Alexa Chung at the Mulberry show! It's like wait, what? But I already know all this from being a subscriber of yours for so many years - I want details!
Anywho, the pictures are lovely, there are pages where you can write your own top ten lists, and it makes a nice coffee table book or whatever, but unless you're a MASSIVE fan, Love, Tanya is a bit of a bore. Your time is probably better spent doing something else. Like looking at pictures of penguins on Google, eh Tan?
Tanya has such a positive and energetic outlook on life and that is a big part of why I see her as such an inspiration. Her book really reflects her personality, so it has a great positive and happy vibe to it. I really see this book as an extension of her videos and blogposts, it is very similar to those, just with a little more depth. The pictures in the book are beautiful and the combination of professional and personal photos is very nice. However, I think this book is only interesting to people who already know and like Tanya, as it really is a book for people who are interested in her, beauty and fashion.
I thought this book was okay. I watch Tanya on youtube occasionally but I wouldn't call myself a fan. I found myself skipping some pages because I became bored but some bits were cute and I look forward to cooking some of her recipes
Thanks to Penguin for sending this to me, it’s always nice to receive new books and I always thank people who’ve had a part in getting books to me.

Review:
Love, Tanya is an interesting part fashion (among other things.) and lifestyle manual with some personal diary type entries from the go to beauty and life Youtuber, Tanya Burr.
It has beautiful picture tutorials, delicious looking recipes (which I will try, especially the Avocado brownies!) and helpful advice on somewhat delicate topics such as love, friendships and anxiety/ panic attacks. However she handles these topics gracefully and never forces her ideals on you, only suggests ways to help which is great in a lifestyle book. Along with stunning photo shoots, cute typography and write your own tidbits.
Youtubers and book deals?
These books pose questions to readers, questions that are making them erupt into full blown madness. They want to know why Youtubers are getting book deals and other amazing writers aren’t. This only erupted after it was found out that Zoella (Zoe Sugg) the Youtube sensation received a book deal but the book was ghostwritten by Siobhan Curham, and that it rose to the quickest selling book since Harry Potter. So what’s my view?
I personally am against it. I don’t see the relevance for unnecessary books from Youtubers, I loved Love, Tanya but Zoella’s book didn’t need to be produced. It scares me that we produce things that won’t make a difference while other books can.
Anyway (sorry for my mini-rant) it’s a lovely hardback with a gorgeous cover an glossy pages, Love, Tanya is a dainty addition to my bookshelf.
Thank you as always to the puppeteers at Penguin for sending an early copy of this my way, I’m so glad I can spew my thoughts about Tanya’s new book and encourage you all to buy it. (No, I don’t get paid in any way, shape or form for my cheesy-tactic words) but honestly, this is such a beautiful book.
Let’s take a moment as book reviews and members of the bookish world, to put aside whatever feelings (if you have them) about the trend of youtubers and their rise to fame. I know many book reviewers who don’t feel pleasantly about this step of youtubers into the bookish world, and while I can respect their opinions, my own view matter not in this case as I put all that “stuff” in a box, and review a truly well put together book.
Tanya’s book is full of an array of great content, from glossy and seriously stunning photos and candids, to recipes and tips, personal stories and travels, as well as this really nifty bit after each section for you to jot your notes down.
With a great cover (that weirdly reminds me of the movie Valentines Day, don’t ask), I feel like it really sets the tone for the rest of the book. I know this is a weird thing to like in a book, but I love the use of fonts, typography, and the overall colour scheme. It feels really laid back, fun, pastel-ish, just all around nice.
Tanya’s writing is very straight forward, honest, easy to read, and though not poetic or in line for a literary prize, it’s just something easy to get through - which I believe is the point. She wants to share her story, parts of her life, advice, tips, recipes, and a lot more with people in a different way to videos and she’s done well. With a wonderfully packaged book, I feel like it’s going to make a real dent in the market.
Love, Tanya, hits stores on January 29th 2015, so be sure to get your hands on a copy, I know this is going to sell out fast.
I get the feeling that this book wasn't the one for me as I am not that interested in makeup, hair and beauty (a quick brush of the hair, a bit of lippy and a bit of mascara is enough for me!). However, the articles on skin care and anxiety were taken with much grace!
The book is written with three main elements (in this order): anecdotes, tips and notes for you to write which I think is very useful. She has also included pictures relevant to the article, some of which are recent and others from her childhood, and if you are a fan, it just adds that personal touch to it.
My only issue is that I'm pretty sure I noticed two grammar errors!
I really liked this book! It has some good tips, lovely quotes and nice recipes. It's a nice, light and quick read, nothing too serious. Tanya is such a lovely, bubbly and inspiring person and she seems so genuine! One little point of critic - What I missed/what I expected this book would have more: Tanya's favorite products, than I would have given it 5 stars. Nevertheless a really nice book to read when you're feeling down or when you want something in between 'heavy' books! It's one you go back to.
I am a huge fan of Tanya Burr. I think she's a great role model for women, a super fashionable individual and a ray of sunlight in the darkness that can be the Internet. When I first started this blog and wanted to add in a YouTube component (a slowly growing channel) Tanya's channel was a huge inspiration. When I found her book I had to get a copy not only to support her as she's, unknowingly, offered me support and guidance through her channel, but to see what else she had to say.
There were three sections that I adored: Fashion, Baking & Recipes and Confidence & Happiness. I liked the whole book, but those three "chapters" especially stood out.
The fashion section was, of course, a big draw to me because talking about skirts, shoes and bags is one of my favorite things ... like, ever. I loved reading about how her style evolved over the years and how she learned to dress for her. I think owning your personal style and dressing the body you have rather than lusting after someone else's figure is an important thing to keep in mind. Tanya does a great job talking about parts of her body she might not always love (we all have them), but sharing how important it is to be confident and buy clothes that fit you and make you look fabulous. This is advice that I think we all need sometimes. I'm not a fan of my very short torso, but this chapter reminded me to find clothes that accentuate the parts I love rather than buying clothes to hide the parts I hate. I also loved reading her top ten favorite fashion pieces. It made me think what my top ten would be!
I'm a sucker for a new, good baking recipe and now I have quite a few. KB is going to be very excited because thanks to Tanya, I have a new lemon drizzle cake that I need to make! I've watched her baking videos and haven't tried to bake any of them yet, mostly because she bakes in UK units and I never took the time to convert, but this book has them all converted for me. No more excuses, it's time to pre-heat. There's also a recipe for a winter soup that is just full of vegetables and I can't wait until it starts to get cool again so I can make it!
Tanya is very open in her book about her battle with anxiety. While I don't have anxiety, I struggle quite a bit with stress. Her chapter about being confident and happy really helped me on a day that I felt like my to-do list was too much and I was failing at life. I was tense and this chapter helped me put things into perspective and encouraged me to keep dreaming big!
This book is a fun read, the pictures are great and I would kill for the floor-length skirt Tanya is photographed wearing on the back cover.
I've recently revisited this book and have chosen to downgrade it by one star. There was a time when I really liked Tanya Burr and I still think she is very sweet, but I feel her type of activity and promotion is more geared towards a younger audience.
This book is certainly all encompassing, taking in some bio bits, information and tips on skincare, makeup, hair, nails and fashion. It also provides insight from Tanya on love and dating, living life, travelling, confidence, happiness, friendship, food and fitness. If that wasn't enough, it also branches into baking. I feel like Tanya has spread herself a little too thinly here. In trying to touch on so many different topics in one book, Tanya's tips result in being very general and unoriginal. A lot of this is common sense, or at least aimed at young teenagers who don't have a clue about where to start in these areas. However, if the intention is to aim it towards a younger audience, Tanya makes the mistake in recommending a number of expensive products that would be completely out of reach for many.
The other thing about being a YouTuber and recommending products is that your opinion never stays the same for long. New products are constantly coming on the market and Tanya will endorse different things, so this information has gone out of date slightly, I feel.
An overly nice and safe> book that will look good on a shelf or a coffee table, but ultimately an overly inclusive collection of information that is in no way groundbreaking.
I'm a huge beauty Youtuber fan and love nothing more than binge watching make up tutorials, hauls and get ready with me videos from my favourite Youtubers. I must admit that I haven't watched a lot of Tanya's videos but it's hard to ignore her influence and skyrocketing career that began with editing videos made with a low res webcam. I picked up this book as it has been raved about on Twitter and while I did enjoy it for the most part, I agree with other reviewers who felt the content was a bit young for me. It appears the intended audience is young girls around 11-14yrs old, just starting to discover their own style; some of the tips are very basic and well known to those of us who have been reading Cosmo/Glamour/Vogue for years; or indeed have our own back catalogue of beauty disasters! There's nothing groundbreaking or completely innovative in the book but to be honest I don't think that was Tanya's intention, she's put together a cute guide of make up, fashion, hair and beauty tips that would make a perfect gift for a young girl. I particularly liked the recipes section too. Overall, it was a sweet read but I didn't get much out of it, definitely not as much as I did from Sali Hughes' beauty bible 'Pretty Honest'.
I never thought I’d pick this up, but when I saw it at a charity shop for €3 I figured I’d give it a go. Tanya Burr was one of the first beauty YouTubers I subscribed to, and while I am no longer a subscriber, I do appreciate what she taught me.
This book is divided into several parts: early life, skincare, makeup, hair and nails, fashion, love, baking, confidence and happiness, being healthy and so on. I thought it was very interesting. It was nice to read a bit more about her life, aside from the YouTube aspect. I’ll definitely try out some of her baking recipes, and the juices she mentioned. What I loved most is the parts about confidence and body image. I think, if you have so many subscribers of which many are young girls, it’s important to talk about it.
During the book, she made several lists and allowed you a page to write you own as well. Like, your favorite childhood memories. Or your travel plans.
Honestly I really loved this book, and especially since I got this book as a birthday present I really really fell in love with it. I love the cover because it represents so much of Tanya's life but also the contents inside were really great. I love how she explains about several areas in her life; growing up/childhood, life, makeup, haircare and such. It's like the book is a best friend to me, everything I need to do with beauty is in there. The book is very colourful and really well written with valid information, I gave it a five stars!
I absolutely loved this book. It was a fast read and it perfectly reflected Tanya's video content and online prescence- her personality shone through incredibly. I can see myself reading this many many times over, which is an odd occurrence for me. I would definitely recommend this to her fans and young girls.
Such a good book! From beauty to fashion to cooking, this book has it all. She talked about her life as well as showing you things that can benefit your life as well as her experience as a youtuber.
Stanowią one mini podsumowania każdego z poruszanych tematów i łatwiej do nich wrócić, niż wertować całą książkę w poszukiwaniu danej rady/kosmetyku.
This was okay. I feel like I would have enjoyed it a bit more back in 2015 when it was released as that was more around the time when I was into watching beauty gurus including Tanya on YouTube and learning about makeup and whatnot. However, reading it now, I found myself knowing most of these things so it didn’t really do anything for me. This goes hand in hand with the writing style as well, which I was not a fan of. It was like this happened, then this happened, then this happened and so on. Didn’t flow well. It just seems like it’s for a much younger audience. Also because she was covering so many topics, it wasn’t as detailed as I thought it would be. But easy and honestly short book (even though it took long to finish) to read given the writing style and because at least a quarter of the book are just pages for you to fill out based on the content.
“Love, Tanya” was an easy read. Tanya Burr’s bubbly, bright personality, shown in her videos, also shone through her words and writing. She has such a positive energy to her and it shows through the explanation of her story and little tutorials she inserts throughout the book. Tanya’s book did not follow much of a storyline, therefore it was not very intriguing, but it was cute and has good intentions. I would recommend this book to fans of Burr with empty time on their hands because there were times where I was skipping pages, unimportant to the novel. Overall, the book was cute, but I probably wouldn’t read it again.
I have been a fan of Tanya's Youtube channel for awhile. I was so excited to find her book at my local thrift store and learn about her life, her thoughts and ideas. Tanya's book is written in the way she speaks in her videos. This book is positive, inspiring and will make you think about your life in a different way.
this is one of those books where you can flick through pages whenever you like, and i've found that throughout the years i've picked it up, skimmed pages and put it down after 10 minutes. there was a time when i used to like tanya, however like joey graceffa's content, i've slowly grown out of her videos too. will still give this a 5/5 as 13 year old me really enjoyed this book.
As much as I like Tanya Burr on youtube, this book is a NO for me. I do not relate to this kind of Content.. mostly i liked the Early life, friendship and Love life chapters of the the book, the make-up and other fashion and beauty advice chapters are not my cup of tea.
I occasionally watch Tanya Burr online, however usually through other YouTubers channels. This book was cute and had some fun stories and recipes. The writing was simple and accessible but unfortunately read like an incredibly long blogpost.
