As an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's book, it's quite true to the plot, and it's always great to see depictions of the characters that don't look like Judy Garland or the actors in costumes interpreting her companions as seen in the MGM film, but . . . the art, folks, the art!

I think the choice of Enrique Fernández as the artist for this graphic novel adaptation was rather unfortunate, because his style is frankly not for the story. Totally inadequate, too cartoony in the childish/stick figure sense of the word and not in the polished Disney sense. Monsieur Chauvel is a veteran of adapting classic children's literature, and he did a good job with adapting Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland to graphic novel format, but this time I believe it's not been his best try. My rating is just for the script, but I wouldn't recommend this, unfortunately.

A sweet and gentle telling of the classic Oz story.
The artwork was great, although I didn’t like how he decided to design the Tin Man - very hard to distinguish in most of the panels he was in.

I love how the text is true to the original. Very different from the classic movie. However, the art is not at all to my taste. Much of the scenery is nice, but the characters are horrible- very angular, which could be okay, but often it's not clear where the face and other body parts are.

I liked that it included scenes from the book that the movie skipped. Otherwise, pretty terrible. Text reads like a long-winded summary written by a bright but young child. Art is too stylized to illustrate hardly anything except the magical vibe. Nothing witty or nuanced.

I love the unique artwork and the faithful adaptation of Frank Baum's classic tale. This is great way to re-live the events of the first Oz book.

Like my jarring first encounter with Shel Silverstein, reading the unvarnished Oz series after growing up on the sugar-coated (but delightful) MGM film iteration required some acclimatization for this sheltered girl. But my favorite children's lit always ends up being that which doesn't shy away from the darker side of human nature. As J. K. Rowling and others understand so well, condescension to children is hardly the best means to equip them for life. The best literature is comforting and challenging, and kids are smart enough to recognize when they're being overprotected.

A great graphic novel version of The Wizard of Oz. The art, which sometimes made my head hurt because of the perspective, was really amazing. The pages with a domination of one color were fabulous, as were the chapter page art.

Folks of all ages will enjoy this quick version which is steady rival to Sabuda's pop-up retelling.

Beautiful art and storytelling. I love the contrasting color palettes used to set the scenes. The writing slowed down the story a little. Too many scenes of Dorothy sleeping in a bed popped up to slow the narrative. I loved the design of the flying monkeys. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to say that you can design a bad flying monkey. They just always look so cool.

Needed something lighter while reading '109 East Palace'.
1965 Airmont Classic ed. Complete and unabridged.
Can honestly say the movie was better than the book. Don't think I'll be reading of of the sequels.

This is a super-cool adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. The artwork is great (although sometimes the panels are just too small to really appreciate it).

Very nice graphic novel version of the Wizard of Oz! I thought it was quite clever. A picture is worth a thousand words...you can spend some time examining these pictures!!

Quite a lot of editorial errors. The story sort of meanders from place to place: when you think it's just about over, a whole new thread is added to the plot. The art is really pretty, though.
