The long awaited sequel to the Kindle Time Travel Romance Bestseller THE RUBY BROOCH!

The saga of the brooches continues in this Civil War Time Travel Romance...

A Union soldier risks everything to save the life of Abraham Lincoln, while a Confederate surgeon races through time to preserve Lincoln’s Legacy.

Reenactor Dr. Charlotte Mallory has spent years perfecting the portrayal of her ancestor, Civil War Confederate surgeon Major Carlton Mallory. In the middle of the 150th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek, she is hurled back in time and lands in the middle of the battle itself, and from there is catapulted into dangers that threaten her life and shatter her heart.

Charlotte is captured by Union soldiers during the battle and hauled before General Sheridan. The General only sees a Confederate surgeon who can solve a challenging problem for him, so he threatens Charlotte with the destruction of her two-hundred-year-old ancestral home unless “he” agrees to rescue a Union spy from a Confederate hospital. To save her home and possibly her own life, she reluctantly agrees. After a harrowing journey to Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, she finds her target, a handsome, green-eyed spy with a Minie ball in his gut and is now at death’s door. Without a thought for long-term consequences, she returns with him to the future, where she has the technology to save his life.

While recovering from his gunshot wound in Charlotte's ancestral home, the spy, Major Michael Abraham “Braham” McCabe learns the man he works for, President Lincoln, was assassinated. Now Braham is determined to return to his century to prevent the assassination. When Charlotte refuses to help him, because it will change the future, he finds another way to get back to his own time.

Now Charlotte must find the courage to follow her heart into the past, and fix the mess she created before it unravels and changes the course of history.

What began as the rescue of a dying man explodes into an eight-month, terrifying, and spellbinding escapade that carries Charlotte across the boundaries of time, honor, and duty to protect history and those she loves, putting everything she cherishes at risk, her heart, her home, and her life.

Third read. I HAD to go back and re-read them after reading the latest (as of 2/19) The Pearl Brooch.

Review of third re-read: I continue to be blown away by the level of detail, research and highly imaginative story lines in this series. As a serious student of the American Civil War (I literally moved from Los Angeles to the Gettysburg area because of my intense interest in the study of this particular time period in our country's history), I recognize the battles, historically significant sites and real-life characters included as the back drop to this amazing book. Ms. Logan's characterization of President Lincoln and the tragic events which led to his assassination and the subsequent trial of those convicted of that horrible travesty is mind blowing. The secondary characters are brilliantly developed and add such depth to the story. And, of course, our hero and heroine are fantastic. I am so happy to know I will be re-visiting this delightful couple in the next books in this saga. This is a series which continues to mesmerize me and, hopefully, will continue to entertain me for many years to come. Highly recommend. Onto my re-read of the next book in the awesome series, "The Emerald Brooch."

I did not like Charlotte Mallory at all. I can't even say why really. She basically annoyed me and wasn't anyone I'd ever want to be friends with. I'm guessing today, that's how I rate a female lead in a book. I know. I'm ridiculous, but you guys... I had to force myself to finish this book.

There was much to like about this book but I can honestly say it was the most frustrating book I have ever read. It is long...very, very long. I don't just mean in pages, although it was a huge book, it was just longggggg. I considered abandoning it multiple times along the way. The first 3/4 of the book was like a history text with a story stuck on top. I wanted to love Braham the way I did in The Ruby Brooch but he just wasn't particularly charming for much of the book. Charlotte and her brother were like bickering children. Once we hit the final 1/4 of the book, things did get interesting and there was a better balance between the characters, the story, and the history. The final resolution of the situation leading to the HEA, was like 1 page long. Really? After 100 chapters, we couldn't have more of them together at the end of all that transpired? No epilogue even? Honestly, I can't even decide on a rating for this book. I will continue to the next in the series because I am captivated by the bigger story but I hope the next one is as good as the first.

This was better than the first book

I loved both books and can't wait for the last one. These stories and the characters pull you into their lives as if you were there with them. The Sapphire Brooch was a wonderful book with lots of Lincoln and civil war history. It was heart breaking at times and so eye opening of what they all went through. I also liked that she brings the animals into the story and the racing end of it. I am at a loss now that it's over. Sure hope the next book comes out soon. I recommend this book to everyone over 18.

This was such a long book; 100 chapters of varying lengths and it's the only one I've read in the Celtic Brooch series. I must admit I'm not really interested in reading any others and The Sapphire Brooch satisfied me enough.
I quite liked Charlotte, especially when she travelled to the time of the Civil War and endured all the horror of conflict. This was very well written and I felt I was there too.
I'm not so sure about Braham, who I saw as a middle aged man. I suppose I was thinking of the many photos I've seen of Union officers standing outside army tents puffing on cigars. When Braham came to the 21st century, I didn't find it credible that he could drive five hundred miles with just the manual as his guide. Since it takes a person living in this century, quite a few months to learn to drive, I think it would be highly unlikely for him to be able to operate the controls and judge the traffic conditions on the busy roads of our time. I'd have been more comfortable if he'd caught the train.
The other characters in The Sapphire Brooch were numerous; some overlapping from the The Ruby Brooch, but this didn't spoil the narrative for me. In fact I did get to know a lot of what happened in The Ruby Brooch.
I'm happy to give this story four stars since there was an unexpected twist that I didn't see coming. Recommended for lovers of time travel stories.

WOW!!!! This one took me on an incredible journey!!! So it's one thing to want to time travel, but it's quite another when it happens accidentally and our heroine ends up in a real life Civil War battle. [Side note: I will never thing about the Civil War the same way again - not romanticize about any of it, but remember the extreme inhumanity to mankind ... and how it changed everyone who was affected! I cry for my ancestors who were caught up in this tragic situation!!]
This book kept me guessing the whole time ... wondering and questioning - love and romance, deceit, betrayal, friendships, history, fantasy, adventure, satisfaction and heartbreak ... always bringing in something from another novel, yet adding another layer of complexity to the foundation already laid in the original story from this series!! I vacillate from wanted to hurry through to the "next chapter" to see what happens ... and slowing down to take advantage of savory all the delicious descriptions and details! It is quite a conundrum!! Clearly, I am still in love with this author, her writing style, her incredible research efforts and her all-so-real characters!!

Technically 3.5 stars awful HEA.!

Braham - lawyer/soldier/vinerteer lives in mid 19th century
Charlotte- surgeon during current day.
I enjoyed reading this engaging story till the end of chapter 93 and became progressively worse (just the H and h relationship) both a bit selfish, no compromising, can't see how they will have a future. Being it took him so long to come around I think says alot about his commitment. So she waited, ha she never reallly dated before all she wanted was a baby/sperm donor and her career. I cant buy this relationship, but the underline story itself was awesome great details and very entertaining kept me very engaged. Their story has a terrible HEA. I think this should be a historical suspense time travel story without the word romance in it!.

I was honored to be asked to Beta-read this manuscript. I was not paid or reimbursed in any way for my services or this review. It is a true record of my feelings, as per my copious notes.

Sapphire follows Ruby as catalyst to transport whomever can open the stone and recite the Gaelic incantation. With the Ruby, it was to the overland trek of the pioneers. Kit MacKlenna meets her cousin Abraham, aka Braham, and his lifetime friend and law partner, Cullen. She falls in love with Cullen and decides to stay in the past with him.

In Sapphire, Dr. Charlotte Mallory of Richmond VA spends much of her spare time in Civil War re-enactments. She is considered very knowledgable of the era. One such re-enactment weekend, of the Battle of Cedar Creek, she recieves a box in the mail from an Edinburgh legal firm. In her hurry, she puts it aside until a break when she opens it, recites the incantation and is transported back into the middle of the real Battle of Cedar Creek, October 19, 1864. After she acclimates herself, she recalls a certain General would be injured and so looks for, and finds, him. She cared for him until his death, with Gen. Custer at the bedside for his friend. Then she is summoned by Gen. Sheridan, who says he will burn down her family plantation, thus changing the family history, if she does not go to Chimborzo prision and rescue a Major Michael Abraham (Braham) McCabe. When she finds him, his abdominal wound is life threatening and the only thing she can do is take him back to her 21st century hospital, where longtime friend, Ken, does the surgery. Her brother, Jack help. Braham quickly recovers and begins to acclimate. His cousine, Kit, told him of her time travel. He inadvertently learns some Civil War history and the fate of President Lincoln.

What follows is a fight to save President Abraham Lincoln from assassination and preserve the history of the Civil War and the Mallory family. It is a very exciting love story and point on history of the War, and some true characters that will make you scream. I did some independent reading of certain events she covered that sparked my imagination, and I just needed to know more.

The development of the ARC's and movement between the Civil War, at its worst, and the 21st century are not confusing. The history is not like reading a text book but an actual part of the action. I had a few surprises as the outcome of some characters turned out to be beyond what I imagined. Most of all...myself and you readers will love the final courtroom scene. It was and additional and unexpected scene that no one could have written better.

I literally just finished the book about 10 minutes ago and I'm sitting here in shock! I cant believe that after all those pages and everything that they went through the book would end the way it did! First problem I have is you figured that Braham was going to have to come to the 21st century since Kit went back in time in the last book, but man did there have to be that long a period of time before that actually happened? 3 years for her and 4 years for him indicates that time travel isn't linear, so why couldn't the gap have been shorter for one of them? If he needed 4 years to figure out that life sucked without her then give him those maybe he could contemplate how much he misses her while he continues to think about the mistress that he has and how often he gets to bed her, since nothing screams romance and true love like a hero who cant keep it in his pants! I mean was it absolutely imperative to shatter the image that he was a man of honor? All that crap that they went through with him needing to go back so he could do his duty and her not wanting him to change history and he can't even KEEP IT IN HIS PANTS? Utterly disappointing.
2nd problem...could Cullen have been a bigger jerk??? He knew what it was like to be separated from Kit but he was asking Braham to stay? Which totally makes me question how much he loves Kit if he wouldn't have eventually gone forward in time to be with her if she hadn't made the decision to go back in time for him! 3rd problem...everyone but David was happy he was there??? Including Charlotte! She's this independent doctor who fought the gender barrier, went back in time 3 times to save history, her brother, and the man that she loves, and then she makes a poster of Braham and is cool to just sit back and wait....for a man? This is a woman that set aside a "gestation year". And up until like halfway through the book, there was no indication that they liked each other much less loved each other. It wasn't until Meredeth's character comes back into the story line and explains the purpose that they start "falling" for each other occurs.

Free to borrow from the Kindle Owners Lending Library/Amazon Prime.

"Chan ann le tìm no àite a bhios sinn a' tomhais an gaol ach's ann le neart anama."
Braham sniffed, turning his head to pull air deep into his lungs. The autumn scent of burnished gold leaves and fermenting grapes lingered gently on night's breath. Where the scent came from he didn't know, but as fog engulfed him, he closed his eyes and translated the Gaelic in his mind - Love is not measured by time or space. Love is measured by the power of the soul.

These just keep getting better. I love the attention to detail, learning well-researched historical facts, and of course, the fated lovers' heartbreak and romance.

This wasn't my favorite book of the series but still very enjoyable. It was too focused on the events of the Lincoln assassination and subsequent trials for my personal liking. Obviously that's the main subject of this book but not my favorite time in history, so that has nothing to do with how awesome this book is, just my personal preference. My favorite part of this series is how they all come together at the end of the book and how they all fit together like a puzzle. Each book is another piece that fits together to make the whole even more awesome than before. On to the next...

The characters in this series are very engaging. They are not perfect and we see a degree of growth as the story progresses. The heroines don't really whine but they are a bit selfish and tend to think they have to do everything for themselves without asking for help when needed. The historical portions of the story are captivating. They are well written and you feel like you are there. I especially liked the exploration of what it would mean in the future if you did something in the past to change things.

It has taken me 3 books to figure out what bothers me about the books. They are fairly long books, few books take me more than 2 days to finish and I've read on this one for a week. It is not the length I mind it is the fact that the story is so choppy. There are distinct sections of the book and each one is basically a standalone story. There are some crossover characters but no real continuation of the story. The first one didn't do this as badly as the second and third. I'd like the story to be a little more cohesive. The same main characters throughout does not bring that, the plot and story do.

That being said, I still enjoy the stories and will plod my way through the remaining ones as long as the quality of the stories continues.

Completely unbelievable that a civil war soldier just adapts to our modern world so quickly and is unaffected that he time traveled. I have tried to like this author but each character she writes is completely interchangeable and they have no uniqueness. Such a bummer because these books could of been so good.

This was my rant from the ruby broach and still applies:

1. The heroine and hero of book 1 to 3 are LITERALLY THE SAME PEOPLE.
Completely interchangeable! Not even kidding.

2. (Slight spoilers)***

---------------------------

Each heroine in book one through three :

a. Loves horses
b. Is rich
c. Has a son at the end
d. This one is my major pet peeve- Completely gives up who they are so.
that they can swoon and be the damsel in distress once the love.
interests. They completely forget who they are and what they stand
for. No thank you.

3. The heroine and hero have tragic backstory.

4. 50% of the time the hero is a butt.

* I am throwing in the towel with this series.

I really enjoyed the first book, but this one was better!

Braham is wonderful. I love how there is so much depth to his character. He tries so hard to do what is right, even when it causes him huge personal sacrifices. His love for family and friends is his core belief.

The descriptions of battle and suffering in the Civil War are heartbreaking. The research done for this book was really top notch - you can picture it so clearly from the vivid descriptions (though with many of the battle scenes, you'll wish you couldn't).

I hope there's a way for Braham to see Cullen again in one of the future books.

Hard to stop reading.

I gave a 5 star review because:
1. Ms. Logan is not predictable in her plots, and her foreshadowing sparks excitement for future work.
2. The non fiction places in the book I have visited and its decribed beautifully. The fictitious places that Ms. Logan describes so well, can make the reader right along with the characters.
3. I practice in the medical field. (I am far from a surgeon). I feel Charolett's insecurities, compassion, and medical understanding 100%.
Good job! I look forward to reading a lot more of your books.

Three stars is sort of like the Corporate performance review "meets expectations". This series is fun, has good character development and interesting plots, although somewhat predictable once you've read a few or them. I still find the use of some specific product names and some word choices jarring (describing Jack as Braham's "buddy" after they had only known each other a few days sounded awkward and cutesy to my ear.) Not classic literature, for sure, but good to read on a long flight or drive.

I read about a third of this book and then put it down. Although the concept had promise the writing style left me frustrated. So much of this is just too unbelievable. I just could not accept that our heroine wen back in time with oxen, wagon, medical supplies, a cat, a dog, a horse and an iPod with a solar charger. And the way the love story played out was very irritating. Later, I went back and finished it and the writing and the story do get better. The ending dragged on a bit longer than necessary, though. I probably will not read the sequel.

I love the thought the writer puts into the historical details. These kinds of books encourage me to research and read about history. Braham is a fantastic character who has been through a lot during the war. So admirable. I liked Charlotte too, but found myself to be frustrated with her often. There were a lot of “shoulda, coulda, woulda” thoughts throughout the story. That annoyed me too. But the ending was really good! I loved it. The book has 100 chapters and I felt parts of it really dragged. But... I’ve fallen in love with this series. Eager to read book 4!

The time travel to the War between the States is fantastic! Reenactor brings Charlotte from present day into the middle of the fighting. She is asked by the president to help one of his men. She meets Bram and bam she is definitely enthralled. Because he is shot in the stomach she uses her brooch to bring him home to modern medicine. The back and forth and returning to get her brother Jack back where he is being held as a co-conspirator for the Lincoln assassination. The characters and the history was right up my alley. Ready for the next episode.

I have never stopped to write a review before I had finished this book. I am 70% into this book and the plot change took me totally by surprise. At two this morning, I forced myself to put this book down and am totally looking forward to picking it up again tonight. I love this author's writing and how she invests you in her characters. I also love how the thread continues from book one. A great series.

Love these books!

I love this smart, witty, edge of your seat writing style! Time travel romance is my go-to and these books speak to my soul. I look forward to reading the whole series. I love that each book is very long and in parts like a movie with sequels...I go through books very quickly and this entertained for more than a few days without it feeling like it dragged on! Overall great and recommend!

My inner history nerd was tripping over itself during this read. I was in heaven reading all about the American Civil War. All of the historical figures we meet in this book had me giddy, and I absolutely ADORE the Mallorys. Of course, Braham has always been a favorite for me so seeing him meet his other half was extremely satisfying. KLL's books always have a hook, but this one was more like a three-act rollercoaster that always leaves me wanting more.

Enjoyed book 3 as much as the other two in this series. Love how the author is able to entertwine the characters from the past and present but also have the characters from the previous books involved with the current characters. Time travel has Charlotte, Brahm, and Jack involved with the ramifications of the present and what could be altered in the past during the end of the Civil War and President Lincoln assassination.

This is from the Celtic Brooch series by Katherine Lowry Logan. Most of them are time travel novels. I especially liked this one because the heroine time travels to the Civil War, an interest of mine. I learned a lot of historic information and have a much better understanding of the period. It was so interesting to better understand the period.

This has been so far the best of the three books in the series. Maybe because I had just read another Civil War based book, and I enjoy reading about that era. I'm into the series now, and will read all available books. The writing is clear, concise - not too much sex, very little to no offensive language, - a very good book.

Longer than the Ruby Brooch but equally engaging. I love the bits of history and the characters - how they move the story. Braham and Charlotte, even Jack, Gaylord, David went through a lot. The other ties this story with the characters from the Ruby Brooch. I am on to the Emerald Brooch, and on. Love how the author evolves her story.
