The last thing he wanted was to fall for a witch...
Veterinarian Kat Ramsey hasn't a clue that she's a witch. Sure, she can read minds, and there's the whole “dimension-hopping” issue that she can't quite control, but Kat is determined to keep things normal. That is, until she accidentally hops into the Otherworld, and runs smack into Matthew Ryan–the seriously hot one-night stand from years ago who shoved her out of his dorm. Naked.
And there's the tiny matter of the curse she gave him.
May you never find satisfaction with another woman. Billionaire and former druid Matthew Ryan hasn't forgotten the curse, or the witch who gave it to him. Kat's unexpected return means the curse will finally be broken. Unfortunately, his libido has other ideas–like how to get her back into his bed one last time. But far more worrying is his suspicion that Kat is the seventh Pleiades witch. Because while he's turned his back on his druidic ways, he's still bound to protect the woman who made his life hell...

This is a fast paced, entertaining, steamy paranormal romance with likable, engaging characters and a happily ever after ending. I am looking forward to reading the other entries in Ms. Forward's "Keepers of the Veil" series.
3.5 - "I'm not like Wolverine, but I can heal fast." Stars.
Matt Ryan and Kat Ramsey have history, 10 years of it in fact, it is just of the unconventional kind. Although neither of them is really aware of exactly how deep and how far that history actually goes at the beginning of the book, it is a roller-coaster ride of discovery, the further into the story you get. The past, the present and the future all depend on them getting together at the right time, and resolving their differences before the wrong people get involved.
With the sexual tension and the chemistry between these too pretty much oozing from my Kindle. I will most certainly be looking too read more books by Zoe Forward. Luckily this is the beginning of a new series from this author and I am looking forward too seeing where the rest of the Keepers of the Veil books take us.
His was the gaze of a high-end predator, throwing it's prey a seductive look, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Another great part of this book is the banter between Matt and Kat, it is funny and snarky, and Matt has got a deliciously dirty mouth when the mood takes him. But you also get the addition of some great interaction with secondary characters as well, Matt's brother Eli and a witch called Serenity, deserve notable mention as their comments had me giggling several times as the book progressed. Protecting his Witch was just a really easy to read, enjoyable book.
"That's the Wildcat I remember."
Can't wait for more!

Kat and Matt shared a wonderful night together that was ruined when his girlfriend showed up. He told her to leave, she cursed him without knowing she was cursing him and went back to her world to forgot about him and move on with her life, only she didn't forget about him and he hasn't forgotten about her either.
I was a bit confused at the beginning but once I got a feel for what Kat and the world were all about it was a lot easier to understand what was going on. Kat doesn't know why she jumps to another world or how to control it, PROTECTING HIS WITCH let us learn all the answers right along with her which was nice. There is a lot of sexual tension, banter and fighting feelings between Kat and Matt. Kat was really hurt by the aftermath of their encounter and doesn't want to put her heart out there for him to hurt her again, but she can't help but want him at the same time. Matt turned his back on the druid life and being with Kat would drag him right back into it, but protecting Kat and wanting her is dragging him back in anyways. There is a little more behind both their feelings for each other and their wants to not jump into their feelings, but I wouldn't want to spoil anything for you. I will say that these two are meant for each other and it shows when they allow it.
I really enjoyed the secondary characters. We get to know more about a select few than others but they all end up being pretty involved in the overall story. There is still a lot to learn about the world and each characters place in it. PROTECTING HIS WITCH makes me want to see what else Zoe has to offer. I know that when book 2 of the Keeper of the Veil series comes out I'll be reading it.

Protecting His Witch is a fun, fast-paced paranormal romance that I found to be quite character driven. Give me two great characters, and I really don't care much if the plot takes a backseat to them. Kat and Matt were quite the couple... I'm glad I was reading on a Kindle or they might have scorched the pages :)
Kat Ramsey is equal parts sweet and sassy. She's confused about her dimension hopping, especially when it always seems to lead her to Matt. Add to that the overwhelming attraction she feels for him... well that just leads to one messed up situation. I love how she inadvertently curses Matt at the beginning of the novel... jerk deserved it! That's not to say I didn't like Matt. Poor guy was just as confused as Kat whenever she popped into his life. He can't resist her any more than she can him.
The story is very character driven, which I liked. However, there was so much more I wanted to know about the Druids, the Pleiades, and their world. Since this is the first book in the series, I assume the details of the world will be fleshed out in later books. The first half of the book flies by, as does the last quarter. Really, the ending was somewhat of a whirlwind.
I enjoyed Protecting His Witch and recommend it to anyone who likes sexy paranormal romance. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.
"May you never find satisfaction with another woman." "Did you just curse me?"
So, what should you do if you're an extremely hot ex-Druid, cursed by a sweet and sexy dimension-hopping witch?
That's exactly what makes Protecting his Witch a sizzling paranormal romance with great characters and a captivating storyline. Kat Ramsey may have cursed Matthew Ryan in college after a one-night stand ended less than well, but when their paths cross again 10 years down the line, their chemistry burns in every sense of the word.
"...I'm hanging onto my sanity by a thread. I'll have you up against this tree and be inside you in about one second."
The bigger picture...we're transported into a world based around the Pleiades - otherwise known as the seven sisters. Matt and Kat may live in different dimensions but Zoe Forward does an excellent job in making the leap between worlds seamless and with no confusion. Heartfelt content in balanced with lighter humorous moments and secondary characters bring depth and valuable content to the story. All in all, a great paranormal romantic read and a very promising start to what I sincerely hope is a series.

I received a review copy of the second book in this series, and then I saw a post the author put up about the first book being on sale so I snapped up a copy and got sucked right in.
Kat has no clue that she is a powerful witch, one of the seven Pleiade witches whom the Druids have sworn to protect. She has been stumbling in and out of Matt Ryan's life for years, and they have made a lasting impression on each other. While he hurt her in the past, Kat can't get him out of her head, and no other man seems to match up.
I loved their romance, and it was full of pushing and pulling, angst and misunderstanding, and plenty of lust-filled moments. Perfect. However, I did feel that the romance overshadowed the rest of the plot and I would have liked more insight into the paranormal world. What we were shown was really intriguing, and I hope that the author develops this as the series progresses. Also, did I mention how much I love the dimension-hopping aspect? Love, love, love it.
The confirmation ceremony at the end was a bit anti-climactic, and I never really felt the danger that Kat and the other witches were supposedly in. That said it didn't dent my enjoyment of this book at all.
In the main the writing is solid, character development is good, and the pacing is consistent.
If you enjoy well-written paranormal romance then you should definitely check out this series.
Add a dimension hopping witch, a ex Druid protector, mix in a dash of whacky magic & TADA, A PAINT PEELING PARANORMAL ROMANCE!

In another dimension, Matthew Ryan, Mr. Boocoo Bucks, studied & joined the Druid Society, but quit because he has enough trouble without adding protecting the 7 uncontrollable Pleiades witches into the mix. Kat can't believe that she hopped back into the cheating Matt's arms, but she can't seem to lose him at this ball. Matt gets her alone, dances her into heaven, has her up against the wall, makes her quivers with his magically hands, gifts her with many undies scorching kisses & one muffled orgasms, but he turns to talk with a friend, POOF she is gone again & he still didn't get any satisfaction!

Will Kat ever have just 1 dimension living? Can these 2 crazy kids stop fighting & tearing off their clothes long enough to save all the dimensions from imploding? Which Pleiades witch is next to meet her mate?
This is my 1st Forward romance & she pulled me by my hair kicking & screaming into her kooky world of the Veil & I WANT MORE! Kat was a heroine who live in an endlessly unexplainable world, but she never took the crazy train & fought tooth & nail for her own small world of sanity. I personal would of rode the Crazy Train, but I would kidnap Matt for myself! Matt was always searching for his perfect life & screwed it up royal with trying to settle for normal, but he needed to let in the crazy to let his heart find his one! Ms. Forward filled this romance with hilariousness with the h/h talking body parts narration & my kind of quirky & ROFL sayings like, Niagara Falls action, butt stubborn, ocular come ons & my favorite, catasstru*ucks! All romances need some sizzle & Ms. Forward had her h/h have tons of hard, pumping, moaning, undies scorching & paint peeling moments that dazzled & made my girlie part PURR! Now this tale had other dimensions flowing through the story, but Ms. Forward made it understandable & super fun to explore & learn all about it. Ms. Forward is a new-to-me author that I will be watching & gobbling up because she made me ROFL & hyperventilating, scream at the stupid male cast, whip out my dusty magic wand, taught me some really AWESOME words & took me on a supernatural rollercoaster ride that I will never forget! It's probably no shock to my romance peeps that I absolutely LOVED this book & Ms. Forward totally EARNED my top score of 5 fingers up & 10 toes for this paranormal romance!
When reading the first couple of pages of this book readers may be a little misled, believing this to be no more than a silly romance with a little magic thrown in here and there to call it a Paranormal. They will learn that they couldn't have been farther from the truth. Protecting His Witch is full of action, dimension hopping, mind bending, revelation reaching, Fate ditching, tragedy bearing and yes, a lot of romance, but not the please hand me a barf bag kind.
Kat Ramsey has spent the majority of her life wondering if she truly had magical abilities, or if she was just out of her ever loving mind. Even though she has evidence that she truly does, where, why and how are questions that plague her to no end. Orphaned at a very young age, she has no memories of her biological parents, and no other family to turn to for answers. That she knows of. So, it stands to reason that when Kat meets someone she suspects has their own bit of magic, she would jump at the chance to ask questions about who and/or what she may be. If only that person wasn't the same cheating S.O.B. that put her out of his dorm with nothing more than a sheet.
Matthew Ryan walked away from his Druid life, and has had no desire to walk back into their world under any circumstances. Not that he Matt has any time for anything other than running the "family" business that was thrust upon him after the death of his Step-Father. A job that gives him no satisfaction yet no-one in his circles seem to notice, except a beautiful woman who seems to keep popping into his life when he least expects it. A woman in which placed a curse on him rendering him unable to reach complete satisfaction with anyone other than her. After-all, that would have to be the only reason he finds himself lusting after her at every turn, and wanting her even outside of his bedroom. Surely not fate, right?
Two lovers who cross paths when neither expects it, but when they both truly need it. One trying to escape their fate, the other trying to put the puzzle of her life together. What neither were looking for was love. Whether or not they become emotionally entangled or not, the very fate of the world is depending on them at the very least, working together. If Katherine cannot come to terms with what she is, and fast, her ancestors will begin Armageddon, as promised. Now, all that needs to be done is to get her to stop shifting between dimensions, tell of her true heritage, keep assassins from killing her and stop trying to screw her brains out, not too much on Matt's plate.
Protecting His Witch is a fun, magical read. Not a lot of blood and gore, but plenty of emotion and action. Readers will be kept on their toes from beginning to end.
Protecting His Witch was a really good read, and the story kept me reading as quickly as I could to find out what happens next. I loved how Kat kept popping in and out of Matt's life, it made for some interesting situations! The curse that Kat unknowingly gives Matt in the beginning had me smiling right from the get go. I also loved that it's a new spin on witches, with Kat being one of the seven Pleiades witches that the druids must protect. Poor Matt didn't want to be a druid, he'd given up on that life and his attraction to Kat just keeps pulling him back in and getting him more deeply involved. There weren't any slow parts, it was fast paced and engaging, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
This is the first time I've read Zoe Forward, and it won't be the last. Protecting His Witch had me flipping the pages as fast as I could read to find out what happened next. Kat & Matthew had great banter and heat-sizzling attraction that are so important in a romance book. At least for me.
Other reviews will fill you in on what happens in the book. I'm just telling you how this book made me feel after finishing it. I wanted a Book 2 right then and there.
I honestly can't put my finger on why I didn't like this a little more than I did. The writing was decent, the plot was fast-paced, the dialogue okay. There was just something about it I found... fake.
Matt and Kat (oh Lord, I just realized that their names are waaayyy too cutesy) had a one-night stand years ago and when Matt's freaking girlfriend showed up, he threw Kat out and essentially made her do the walk of shame. On her way out, Kat cursed him... directly before dimension hopping back to her own world.
Yup. You read that right.
See Kat's one of seven descendants of the Pleiades and she has to... um... show up to a place... to make gods not come into the world and destroy it. Yeah. It's pretty weak. Anyway, just like Kat's a divine whatchamacallit, Matt is a druid, sworn to protect her and others like her.
I dunno, there was so much weirdness about this one -- and not in a fun way. Kat and Matt both acted like they had some sort of big connection during their drunken hookup night and the first chapter makes it pretty clear they didn't. Kat woke up drunk and hungover. Plus, there's a long-lost father, an heirloom toe ring, a twin brother separated at... whatever, leaving Matt to a seemingly hellish existence with his mother and stepfather for no real reason that was ever explained. It seemed like we might have gotten some meatiness with Matt's mother, who allowed his stepfather to be a douchecanoe to him, but she never even makes an on-page appearance. One of my biggest gripes about this one is that there was all this stuff happening or that has happened, but the book never really gives a good explanation why.
Yawn.
Honestly, it really wasn't that bad of a book, but by the end of it, I was just ready to be done with it. The thing is, the plot to the second one sounds really intriguing, but I just don't know if I can suspend my disbelief any further. Two stars means "It was okay" on GR and that's what this one was -- just "okay" and I'll take a pass on further adventures in this series.
Protecting His Witch is book one in the Keepers of the Veil series by Zoe Forward.
I've had this title on my TBR for a while and won a copy back in 2015. I wasn’t sure what to expect; but I did end up enjoying the story and am interested to read on in the series.
We are introduced to Druids, Witches, Curses, an evil society and more. The main focus is on Kat, the lost Pleiades and Matt, who left the Druid Society and is now in Corporate American.
Kat has know idea what she is. She's been jumping dimensions for years, but doesn't understand why. She does always end up near this man who seams to have a pull on her. Their relationship is rocky, turbulent, and full of heated moments.
Kat takes her gift and dimension jumping in stride. She's jumped since she was a teenager and instead of breaking down and ending up in a mental ward, she took control of her life and learned to live with it. We meet a lot of characters and each are intense in their own way. As for Matt that man has issues, but when it comes to Kat boy does the passion and protectiveness come out.
Protecting His Witch was enjoyable though I did have a bit of trouble getting into the story. Where we start is a bit confusing. We don’t know these characters and we don’t know what dimension jumping is. I don’t think I fully understand it and the Pleiades. It felt like we needed more information development. Maybe we get more as the series progress, but I was a bit lost at the start. Once things moved along I was intrigued to see if Kat and Matt would have a relationship or not.
It’s a decent start with a nice premise. I look forward to seeing where things go next and getting to know and fall for another couple in the next installment.
This book stole my heart and I bet it will steal yours too!
Holy cow, she'd just slept with the hottest guy in the universe. She, the super science geek. The you-go-girl side of her brain wahooed. The rational side of her brain spat out a resounding, Oh shit.
PROTECTING HIS WITCH by Zoe Forward has officially blown me away! I had requested an advanced reader copy about six months ago as I enjoy witchy books. I'm so glad I did! While I was waiting on a take-out order two days ago, I started reading it and found myself hooked within minutes. I ended up binge-reading it into the morning hours. Yes, it's that good. However, now I'm suffering from witch-withdrawal and need the next book NOW! I'm so glad this book is the first installment in the author's new Keeper of the Veil series and Zoe has posted on her Facebook page that the next two books will be published shortly!
PROTECTING HIS WITCH is the story of veterinarian Kat Ramsey and former druid Matthew Ryan. Kat is unaware that she is a witch, one of the seven Pleiades, female descendants from goddesses, who must meet once every seven years to ensure that the veil that prohibits evil from being released into the world remains closed. On a good note, she can read minds and she can calm animals - talents that come in handy in her chosen profession. On the bad side, she has Otherworld episodes. Thankfully, they don't happen that often - but when they do, she is thrown into another dimension with no control of how, when or where.
This fascinating and stylish mystery romance is exceptionally well written and keeps the reader totally engaged as the writer builds the story into a crescendo from breathless interludes to heart-stopping suspense. From the very first pages, the reader is drawn to the beautiful and enigmatic Kat and the very dangerously sexy Matthew, as they try to untangle the web of mystery surrounding them. Kat has no idea who and what she is as she struggles to understand the strange phenomena that grips her and even threatens her life. Matthew is determined to avoid being pulled back into a world of ancient mythology that he has tried to forget. Kat and Matthew, suspicious of the inexplicable physical chemistry in their passionate and contentious union, find they are under attack by powerful forces that threaten their very existence as ancient enemies lead the world toward Armageddon. Kat and Matthew are determined to decide their own fate at the risk of losing everything they hold dear. I was completely spellbound by the power unleashed in this story of sizzling passion and high suspense to see what fate had in store for the beautiful Kat and the devilishly handsome Matthew. I could not put this story down for a minute and I highly recommend this stylish and sexy thriller as a must read.
This book was surprisingly much more enjoyable than I'd expected. It has a great premise and lovely outline, and the progression isn't bad either. Characters feel stock-standard, and the execution of the story itself could use a little work, with some of the scenes and twists feeling a little too deliberate in being there for the sake of forwarding the story. Some of the characters and their histories could have been fleshed out a bit more; and maybe we could have done without such a heavy focus on the sex and romance, but I'm sure that was also deliberate, for reasons.
Protecting His Witch is the opening story in the fascinating Keepers of the Veil series. Kat doesn’t understand exactly how she “pops” into another dimension of time and space – usually at the most inconvenient times. It’s simply something that has happened to her often. On one of those hops she ends up with Matt, a college aged Matt and after a gloriously sexy night together is shocked to discover his girlfriend at the door. Her parting remark is taken as a curse by Matt, who has more understanding of the supernatural world than he gives away. Kat hops back into her world where she stays for about a decade. But thoughts about each other never quite leave Matt’s or Kat’s minds.
Now Kat has hopped back into the dimension she calls Otherworld and this time she is in a boatload of trouble. Yes, an older, even sexier Matt is there to confront her. And it seems that their lives are intertwined whether they want that to happen or not. Since it is assumed that Kat is one of the Pleiade witches, one who has been lost for some time now. Kat has no knowledge of her specialness nor of the assassins who seem to be constantly after her. Matt has a better idea of what is happening, but he isn’t coming forward with much information for Kat – mainly because he has turned away from his druid history and he’s refusing to believe that Kat is the lost witch. It really doesn’t matter what Matt thinks or even wants because it seems that fate has bound them together and they’d better learn how to deal fast or sink even faster.
Protecting His Witch is a complex story that sets up the rest of the series, so I expected there to be quite a bit of world building in this first story. The dimensions that Kat hops between are similar, yet just a tad bit different – one difference being that Matt and the druid protectors as well as the descendants of the sisters are present mainly in one world. There is an event happening soon, one that only occurs every twenty years, so it is imperative that the missing seventh witch be identified and brought back into the fold. Matt could care less about that – he’s simply trying to figure out why Kat has such a hold on his heart, even when he says he doesn’t do commitment.
Between attempted kidnappings, assassination attempts and discovering what she truly is, Kat is also falling deeper for Matt and his frustrating attitude towards her is annoying, hurtful and so damned confusing. It’s obvious that they are fated and just as obvious that Matt isn’t exactly thrilled about that.
This is a fast paced, action packed paranormal romance, mystery and thriller all tossed in together. Protecting His Witch will pull you into the story on so many levels. And if I often wanted to smack Matt upside the head, he deserved that thought. Kat is actually much stronger than she realizes, and when she puts her mind to it she is quite an impressive witch. I enjoyed my time spent with these characters – and I’m definitely going to continue this series. In fact, I had read the second novel before this one – so that review will be posted here in a day or so. For now, know that this looks to be a fascinating series full of magical people, lots of sexual tension and a fated love for each one that cannot be denied.
Witches, druids and curses, that’s what’s in store for you if you read this book. I should say curse, as there is only one, but it’s a doozy. Of course there’s also plenty of romance.
Kat has a problem that’s been bothering her for years. She is able to jump dimensions, between two different ones. She has no control of when, or where it happens, but only knows that when it happens, she always ends up in close proximity to Matt Ryan. They first meet at a frat party while in college. Before the night is over, she has had her first, and only one night stand. The morning after is not the best, and before it’s over, she has cursed him to never find satisfaction with another woman. Pretty major curse, as curses go, I think. This is the story of what happens when they meet again after ten years absence from each other. She’s now twenty nine, and still has no idea that she is a witch.
Kat is an interesting character. She’s had these weird episodes since she was a teenager, but instead of being in a mental ward somewhere, she has become a veterinarian, and is also a champion salsa dancer. She has a gay best friend(and salsa partner) Riley, and he ended up being a favorite character of the book for me, as he was the only fun character. The rest of the characters were pretty intense. Matt, is understandably not happy about the curse. However, my problem with him is, when he sees her ten years after the curse, his reaction was a bit unbelievable, and that kind of bothered me; it just wasn’t as real of a reaction, as I thought it should have been. Matt is now the CEO of his late step-father’s company, and a billionaire. Oh, and he just happens to be a non-practicing druid.
The jumping between dimensions premise was different for me, as far as premises go. It was interesting when she compared the sameness versus the differences of the two worlds. When she finally finds out what she is, and starts embracing it, things get even more interesting. New characters get involved, life, or death situations start happening, and six fellow sister witches get introduced. At it’s heart though, this is the story of the romance between Kat and Matt, and it’s a pretty good one at that. For a couple that have the history these two have, they manage to get in a number of sensual situations, and of course fall in love.
I enjoyed the read for the most part. There were a couple of plot holes, here and there, but I only mention it because that is something I tend to notice, like I usually notice grammatical mistakes. I can’t discuss the plot holes without giving away a major story line, so i will just say, enough said, and let it go at that.
Good story, good couple, a good premise, and I look forward to reading the next in the series. There’s plenty of characters introduced that could have their own book, and actually this book includes a set up for what I think is the next one, as well. (RabidReads.com)
Protecting His Witch (a Keepers of the Veil novel) Zoe Forward Review from jeannie zelos book reviews Genre: Paranormal Romance I was expecting a kind of paranormal M&B fluffy read with this – but its actually got a lot more depth than I expected. Its an interesting idea, this one of parallel worlds, and Kat is able to jump form one to the other. She doesn’t know why though, or why she seems to have some other odd quirks such as hearing people’s thoughts. It may be a family thing – but she knows nothing of her parents, and its not the kind of question you can ask without sounding nuts. So she keeps her head down, her fingers crossed and gets on with life. I really liked Kat, she’s not a weeping, simpering miss, but a get on with it girl who makes the best of a situation. She a bit out of her depth now though, when her “jumps” seem to have stepped up from none for several years to several within days. Not only that there seems to be some weird people out to get her, and she doesn’t know why or what they want. Throw in too that she keeps jumping to the one man she’d like to avoid, the one she had a really embarrassing but searingly hot one night stand with. He believes she cursed him, but she doesn’t know how to do a curse. He knows more about her world than he’s telling, trying to find out if she genuinely doesn’t know what he’s talking about – and they’re both hampered by an insane attraction that seems to leave them both with a desperate and raging desire to get naked together...anywhere, anytime it seems! Matt, he’s his own reasons for staying out of the supernatural world, but it just won’t leave him alone. He’s been targeted by the group after Kat before, and knows just how evil they can be, they’re responsible for his fathers death. Now there’s a deadline coming close for Kat to attend an important ceremony in the Otherworld, one she knows nothing about, and there are two groups wanting her. One to save the world by having her at the ceremony, the other who just want to capture her and experiment on her, dead or not... The heat between her and Matt was tangible and believable, and the way he’d no intention of bonding with anyone, and kept talking himself out of the attraction for Kat, making excuses for his feelings, and then going nuts when another Druid tries to claim her was amusing. The story itself was realistic – within the paradigms of fantasy of course – and the two lead characters were good. I liked meeting the secondary ones too, Kat’s friend, the loud and proud gay dancer, and Matt’s brother and the other druids. Its a small group of people here, but they fit well together and made for an entertaining read. Stars: Four and a half, a great read to escape into for a few hours ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers
Well, it's definitely a fun one for this one! Kat is having some trouble, she lives with humans, has trouble remembering her past, and jumps somehow into parallel worlds. Well, one, specifically she calls the otherworld. It's like her but not. Oh and she can read minds. She's got a whole lot of issues right now :)
Kat is sweet. She's veterinarian. She's worked hard to get there. She has a crappy boss but wonderful patients and a spectacular best friend she latin dances with. And then, she sometimes gets this dizzy feeling and POOF, she's in another world. Where she keeps meeting up with this total HAWTTIE named Matt Ryan. He's irresistable. And he gets her every time, making her fall, then humiliating her. She really doesn't like him, except she might love him. :) She met him in college at a frat party and it has started an on going crazy since then. She always pops into the otherworld somewhere close to him. Well, things are getting crazy because now, some bad people are after her, she doesn't understand why, and Matt won't leave her alone. She's a cool girl. I love her, and I really love her profession because it's mine too.
Well, Matt Ryan is spectacular, except he's bitter. He doesn't want to be a druid and connected to their world. He blames his dad's death on them. He doesn't want to be at their beck and call. Plus, he's already rich and busy. He's got a huge corporation to run. His rich, beautiful, powerful, and of course all alpha sexy male. And he's got it bad for Kat. He thinks she placed a curse on him, but he's wrong. He's searched for Kat for YEARS. He can never find her. And then he has this suspicion that she's this special witch they've been looking for. It's quite a journey with him trying to seduce her, then just trying to keep her in eye sight. LOL
This is a fun adventurous read with great side characters, a little heart break, some steamy romance, and a supernatural mystery unraveling to tell a wonderful story! I loved it. I so can't wait to read so much more from this series. And though I've never read this author before, I am now a fan and will be reading her in the future. I loved the way things opened up for Kat and Matt got a little bit of realization. I loved the writing and the fast pace of the book. I really am read for book two, like tomorrow would be good :) LOL Yes, please. 5 WITCHY PAWS!!
Protecting His Witch by Zoe Forward is the 1st book in her new, Keeper of the Veil series. This is an exciting paranormal storyline of a young girl, who has for years been able to switch dimensions. Kat Ramsey is our heroine, and she has no idea why she has this ability, which she really doesn’t know how to handle. Only her friend knows of her ability. But it is in the other dimension where she meets Matt Ryan, while they were both in college. They end up having hot steamy sex, only to have it ruined by Matt’s girlfriend showing up. An embarrassed Kat, immediately jumps back into her dimension, cursing Matt along the way.
Years later, Kat is now a Veterinarian, and it’s been awhile since she jumped to the otherworld. She wakes up and feels the switch coming, and before she can prepare she finds herself at a benefit, with Matt the guest of honor. Matt has never gotten over Kat, and has searched for years to find her. When Kat accidently smacks into Matt, she knows she still has the hots for him, as well as he does for her. But she has never forgiven him. Despite this, Kat finds herself being stalked by others, and Matt is the one who comes to her rescue.
During one of these rescues, Kat senses that Matt has his own magic powers, as he heals her injuries. After a few attacks, she begins to find out about her own history, the mother she hardly knew, her magic and what she truly is. Matt is a Druid, and though he wants nothing to do with his ability, he knows he has to protect her.
We learn that Kat is one of 7 Pleiades witches, female descendants from goddesses, who must meet once every 7 years to ensure that the veil remains closed, and not allowing evil to escape. This was a fun adventure, as we met the other Druids and Pleiades. But it is the hot romance between Matt and Kat, who cannot resist each other, despite their original distrust. The chemistry between them was sizzling, and we knew that they were destined to be together. Would they be able to resolve their issues? Will Kat accept her destiny, and learn her own abilities? I really enjoyed this story, and both Matt and Kat were a wonderful couple. Protecting His Witch was very well written and exciting. I look forward to read the next book in this series by Zoe Forward.
Protecting His Witch is the first book in the Keepers of the Veil paranormal romance series from author Zoe Forward. Kat Ramsey is a Pleiades witch who doesn't know she is one, even though she's more than aware that she possesses certain gifts that can't be easily explained. Matthew Ryan is a former Army Ranger turned CEO of a multi-million corporation and the college student that Kat had a one-night stand with. Oh, and he just happens to be a druid who walked away from anything to do with that part of his life. But with Kat around, Matt finds himself dragged back into it all because druid sentries are sworn to protect Pleiades witches. He may not have signed up for it, but he's certainly invested and involved, so it's not as if he can simply walk away from the woman who's haunted his thoughts for a decade. What follows next is Kat and Matt trying to deal with their attraction and feelings toward each other, and how Kat's being a witch, a fact she has no knowledge of whatsoever, is bound to change both their lives for eternity.
I really enjoyed this paranormal romance and found myself doing a bit of research on the mythology involving the Pleiades goddesses. Since I happen to like mythology, this was definitely an added bonus in my eyes. Both Kat and Matt are fun to read about, because there's that inexplicable thing that ties them together, but Matt wanted it to be more than just some sort of bond set by the gods. I loved that about him because he obviously hoped that whatever was going on between them--the chemistry and connection--was based on how they felt about each other, and not because it was fate or destiny that set everything up that way. Aside from the two main characters, the prominent supporting characters have certainly piqued my curiosity and I hope that their stories will be part of the series down the line, particularly Eli Morgan, Matt's twin brother, and Serenity Danssaert, whose book is actually up next with Alexi Jovec. Protecting His Witch was quite a fantastic start to an already promising series and I'm giving it five out of five stars. ♥
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Protecting His Witch was a fast-paced, entertaining story with a well-developed mythology. I liked most everything about this book. First, the author is very skilled. She knows how to keep the story moving through parts that would normally slow a story down. For example, if she needed to bring up something that happened in the past, it was quick and concise. There weren’t any long passages of internal monologue or backstory.
I also liked that she allowed the characters to be angry and/or uncertain about being forced into a relationship. Even though they were destined to be together, it wasn’t insta-love. Matt needed to accept his role before he could acknowledge how he felt for Kat. Plus, he didn’t like that he was being forced into something long-term.
It wasn’t the same for Kat because she wasn’t aware that they had been chosen for one another. She didn’t have the anger that Matt had. Instead, she fell in love because of who he was, not because she was destined to be him.
Every paranormal romance book has a smoking hot male lead. Protecting His Witch was no different. The difference was, though, that I actually paid attention in this one. Matt Ryan grabbed my interest. I’m not sure why that is; I guess the author just wrote him really well.
On the downside, there wasn’t much in the way of setting details. They may have been sacrificed for the sake of the pacing.
Kat is likable enough. I thought she could have been a little tougher and self-reliant. I would have liked to have seen her figure more out on her own and defend herself better. Otherwise, I had no complaints about her.
As a whole, I thought Protecting His Witch was a great book. When I looked it up on Amazon and saw that it is selling for only 99 cents, I thought it is worth more than that.
If you like hot paranormal romance that involves destined mates, witches, and druids, you should give Protecting His Witch a try.
This is the first book I've ever read by Zoe Forward. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I liked the blurb and when offered a review copy I said yes. I am SO, SO HAPPY that I did. I LOVED Protecting His Witch.
I like paranormal books, but I sometimes feel like some things are overdone. There are too many vampires out there and too many shifters (I don't want to offend anyone - it's just my opinion). However we don't have enough books about witches. Everyone read the Harry Potter books years ago, but there aren't too many authors that write romance novels about witches. Zoe Forward did just that.
Both Kat and Matthew are "witches." He's a druid and she's a Pleiades witch. While Matthew knows who and what he is Kat does not. She knows that she's different, but doesn't know why strange things happen to her and why she seems to hop from one world to the next.
Kat is slightly insecure and a bit prudish. She's happiest around her animals and tends to avoid relationships. She's best friends with a gay man. Matthew is the definition of an arrogant playboy. While he doesn't intend to hurt anyone he does hurt Kat when she realizes soon after their first fling, that he has a girlfriend. Matthew is good looking and knows how to use it to his advantage with women.
Things get steamy the first time Kat and Matthew meet. She rocks his world and then curses him. They don't meet again for several years, but the passion is still there the moment they see each other.
I loved the world of the Druids and Pleiades that Zoe Forward created. Matthew had denied this world and Kat had never known about it, but both were pulled in and forced to become a part of it (that's as much as I can say about it without giving away details and spoilers).
There are seven Pleiades witches. I'm hoping that Zoe Forward writes all 7 books because I can't wait to read more about them and their men.
I give Protecting His Witch 4.25 stars! Check it out now! You won't be disappointed!

4.5 Hot Druid Protector Stars
Boy did I enjoy this book. I usually like my PNR to be more about strong hairy shape shifters, dark and sexy vampires, or good old kinky demons…(or angels for that matter ;D), have nothing against magic, it just not as… attention grabbing to me.
However, this book was excellent. It starts out a little confusing, like when you’re flipping through channels and you finally catch a film or series that seems interesting but you caught it 10 minutes in, so at first you’re kinda confused about what’s going on and who’s who. The first couple of chapters had me a little lost, I even went online to check if this was a follow up book from an ongoing series… When I confirmed it is the first (of many to come I hope) I just relaxed and got into it. And let me tell you it gets very good real fast.
With a mix of Celtic culture and Ancient Greek mythology, I found the storyline fresh and exciting.
Filled with action, magic, an anti-magic-fanatic-killer-secret-society, and a very steamy and hot destined-for-each-other couple, Protecting his Witch has everything I look for in a Paranormal book. It sets a great precedent for the coming installment in this new series, and I’m looking forward for the stories to come.
I was slightly dissatisfied by the lack of epilogue (I know I always complain about this, but what can I do, I’m a sucker for a good peek at the actual HEA) but I’m confident that I’ll get to see the couple in future plots.
This was a very engaging and fast reading book and I highly recommend to anyone who would enjoy a hot take charge druid protector alpha guy, a somewhat lost but persevering and very stubborn witch who doesn’t know what she really is and lots of hot, rip-my-clothes-off, can’t-take-my-hands-off-you-even-if-I-have-a-girlfriend, steamy sex from a destined couple.
Do not listen to the audible version of this book, I beg of you. I’m not normally one to comment on how poor of a narrator I feel someone is no matter how bothered by their performance I am, but this narrator was less pleasant to listen to than even the AI narrators. Usually speeding up an audiobook can make the minor annoyances of a narrators performance less noticeable. I normally listen to audiobooks at 1.75 speed, I played this audiobook at 2.10 speed and still the way she read distracted me. That is the fastest speed I have ever listened to a book at. You’ve been warned.
As for the story itself, I didn’t like it much. The base storyline of a fem MC uncontrollably jumping dimensions infrequently enough for it to be on purpose, but frequently enough to understand (generally) what was happening to her, was cool and not something I’ve come across in a romance book. However, I think there was too much going on outside of that storyline and not enough world building. First there was the “first meeting” with the MCs where they bone and then get discovered by the male MC’s girlfriend, then apparently the fem MC gets pregnant from this encounter (because she’s unable to take hormonal birth control) and secretly tries to have the baby but he passes away shortly after birth, and later something similar happens again when his new girlfriend catches them in bed together. Then we’ve got the side plot where the male MC is the CEO of his “terrible” adoptive father’s company (not sure why he was so horrible, there’s not much detail about him, and why would he put his adoptive son in charge/why would the male MC take over the company if they had such a poor relationship)? The male MC goes to several fundraisers and even a tv interview to fulfill his obligations as CEO but beyond that we never hear much about what he specifically does to keep the company running or what the services it provides even entail. Then we’ve got the whole Pleiades women plot, where on top of the fem MC discovering who she is (kinda) there’s this man hunt for her because she’s required to participate in some ritual where she talks to her dead mom for 5 seconds to help stave off the end of the world somehow, and with her newly discovered identity, there’s the big bads that are running around trying to assassinate she and the other women for some unknown reason (do they want Armageddon? Their motivations were never explained). And then we have the issues the male MC had with the society of druids that’s supposed to protect the Pleiades because he’s holding a very old grudge against their leader for the death of his bio dad (who abandoned him during childhood, the male MC’s sudden closeness to the man isn’t expanded on either, it’s only used as a frequent stumbling block for why the male MC continues to deny his reality). All this mixed in with the fem MC living her life as a terrible vet (because she’s constantly disappearing) and 1/2 of the amateur salsa champion pair (which was random as fuck). Not to mention the “romance” between the MCs.
This felt like an everything but the kitchen sink kind of book, where several subplots weren’t important to the story in any way but were just thrown in for shits and giggles. I needed more background. How do druid powers work? Do only members of the society sworn to protecting the Pleiades have powers? How are you selected for the position? Does each Pleiades go back to a different dimension except for the one that can visit all of them? Why haven’t the big bads who are trying to assassinate them been able to track them into the other dimensions or have they even tried? How does everyone know that if all the Pleiades aren’t present every year in Ireland the world will end? Has it happened before? When does the responsibility switch from mother to daughter? Is the fem MC a witch or not (it’s in the title, but one of the Pleiades said she wasn’t. But why the frequent harping on how the fem MC “cursed” the male MC in the beginning?). So many questions. Instead of world-building, there was an obnoxious amount of sex, bellyaching about destiny, and we’ll tell you laters. It drove me up the wall. The fem MC barely knew more about her situation and history at the end than she did in the beginning.
I didn’t like the male MC. He was a sleezeball, no matter how he tried to spin it with being “drawn” to the fem MC, he cheated on his girlfriend that night at the party. And he cheated on his girlfriend again when they slept together in his dimension as adults. Or maybe she wasn’t his current girlfriend, it was very very unclear. All he said was she wasn’t his fiancé, never that she wasn’t his girlfriend. He also suddenly began fighting their connection tooth and nail towards the end for no particular reason. He was okay with fucking her, and possibly knocking her up (after telling him she couldn’t take hormonal birth control, they still fucked without any contraception. Insanity.) but being tied to her for life and ensuring her protection (which he was already doing btw) oh lawdy no no! That was too much because he didn’t want to be tied down (shady) or associate with the man he blamed for the death of his dad (sorta valid, though it was never explained why he couldn’t just defend her on his own and not associate with the druids at all). And when the fem MC told him what she thought of him and what she wanted, he threw a tantrum and ignored her for hours like a 5 year old. I hated how the fem MC was made to feel guilty about expressing herself just because the male MC was too chickenshit to pick a lane (and she was told sex with him would make it better, terrible advice). Then he turned on a dime and was suddenly okay with everything, no discussion or sense smacking needed.
The MCs also never talked expansively about anything particularly important and what they did talk about tended to be extremely repetitive without getting much deeper than where they started. I didn’t get why they felt so attracted to each other beyond the physical. They had very very little in common.
While the salsa championship title was random, I thought the part about the fem MC’s dancing being hypnotic in a way was really cool, kinda reminded me of Hollywood’s depictions of oracles and witch gatherings in the woods under a full moon. Might have explained why she and her partner did so well, but it was never confirmed or even discussed.
The main plot and side plots didn’t feel like they meshed well or were part of the same story and I didn’t like the male MC or give a shit about their “romance”. Not sure why this needs to be a series, could have been a pretty bad ass single. Anyway, I’ll let sleeping dogs lie.

Who knew that a one night stand several years ago would end up being with the person that is your chosen mate. Yep, that is just what happens to Kat. Of course she didn't know it at the time. Matt broke her heart. You see he leaves the bed they just shared to open the door for his girlfriend. The one he neglected to tell her existed. Well between that and the comments from said girlfriend she was hurt enough that she cursed him before the anger caused her to hop back to her dimension.
Unfortunately Kat hasn't mastered the art of dimension hopping. She has no control over it. Years later she still has not forgotten Matt. She continues to be drawn to him and events cause her to hop back and forth between dimensions as they dance around their attraction.
You find out she is a Pleiades witch before she knows she is one. This is why she is able to go between dimensions. She doesn't have a handle on it because her mother erased her memory. And you learn that Matt was a sentry druid who's job is to protect Pleiades witches. Except Matt has given up anything related to druids.
As the two of them begin to figure all of this out they are dealing with some big time attraction that has them unable to keep their hands off each other.
There are heartbreaking parts, hilarious parts and very happy parts in this book. I don't want to give away any spoilers but trust me this book is 5 star good!! I only hope that there is a story for Serenity and Eli in the future. And you can bet I will be reading it if there is.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

OMG!! This is such a great story! The story grabs you from the moment it starts and doesn’t let you go.
Matt Ryan and Kat Ramsey have history together. History that goes back 10 years; Kat can jump thru time but she doesn’t understand how she can do that. 10 years ago she went to a college party and lost her virginity to Matt. Kat Ramsey may have cursed Matthew Ryan in college after a one-night stand ended less than well but when they meet up again 10 years later, the chemistry is EVEN MORE off the charts.
Matt has 10 yrs of hate built up toward Kat. He hasn’t been able to have a normal sexual relationship because he thinks Kat deliberately cursed him-Matt is a former druid and Kat, well, she doesn’t even know what she is. But there is an even bigger picture here--Matt and Kat live in different dimensions but Zoe Forward does an excellent job in making the leap between worlds seamless and with no confusion.
Now that he has found her again, he wants to keep her by his side, especially when he realizes she is in extreme danger and doesn't even know what's happening. Matt, deep down, knows Kat isn’t bad and that she is *IT* for him. Combined with Kat and Matt, there are a lot of other characters in this book with teasers of future couples. This is apparently the first book of a new series and folks, we have a *WINNER* This is such a good book. HIGHLY recommend!!
Veterinarian Kat Ramsey has a slight problem. She keeps slipping out of this dimension and into another one. During her first "trip" she met sexy Matt Ryan who turned out to be a cheating scumbag and she accidentally cursed him. Now she has zapped into his world again and finds out she has powers and a history that she never knew.
Matt really didn't mean to break Kat's heart when he first met her, he just acted impulsively and made a bad decision. Given that Kat disappeared off the face of the earth after her curse, he never got a chance to make it right. Now that he has found her again, he wants to keep her by his side, especially when he realizes she is in extreme danger and doesn't even know what's happening.
Matt and Kat have rough going trying to make a relationship happen. They are both very attracted to each other but there are trust problems. Kat is being hunted and she doesn't understand why. Matt is trying to protect her on one hand and not get drawn back into the magic world with the other. They both have to let go of the past, embrace their destinies, and learn to love and trust each other.
There are a lot of other characters in this book with teasers of future couples. This is apparently the first book of a new series and it is a winner. lots of romance, suspense, and magic all rolled into one good book.
Magic, Druids, Witches? Yes, please. It's been a while since I've had a chance to read an adult paranormal romance. Protecting His Witch was the perfect book for me to delve back in to my favorite genre. I was fascinated by the world the author created-the multiple dimensions, the Greek Pleiades lore that was interwoven into the story and combined with the Druid lore...then taking that and adding in the romance element, resulting in quite the intriguing story.
The characters-very well crafted. I loved both of the main characters, Kat and Matthew, and they worked well as a couple. And Matt's sexy alpha presence...mmm, that's another "Yes, please!" In the secondary characters, Charlotte was fantastic-full of spunk and a strong leader, while Bryce was one of those who make you want to growl and throw one of those upside-the-head slaps-even after you find out why he acts the way he does.
The story will draw you in, and it flows really well. There's plenty of action and excitement, along with a good dose of steam. I thought everything wrapped up toward the end a bit too quickly compared to the pace of the rest of the story, but otherwise it's a great read.
An excellent start to the series, and a 4-star read for me.
