To Avenge Her Highland Warrior

Rate this book
Lorna lost everything to war. Her home, her wealth... her lover. And now she wants revenge.

When her hasty plan throws her at the mercy of her enemy’s men, she holds little hope of returning to her kin and fears death is around the corner. But could her salvation lie in the arms of her dark captor?

Logan has little time to be dealing with a stubborn noble woman. His orders are to prepare for war. His laird—the man he owes his life to—intends to join forces with the Norse and bring a battle to Scotland that will see the fate of the country forever changed. Scarred, and with no memory of his past, Logan is determined to forge a new future for himself as well as prove his loyalty to the laird.

But the beautiful lass has him questioning his previous life and his goals. When she starts claiming he once loved her, he knows he’s being manipulated and she’s taking advantage of his memory loss. So why is it so hard to resist the idea of having once been her lover?
With the threat of impending war—a battle that promises to bring slaughter to her family—can Lorna persuade Logan to believe her, and is the bitter man he’s become even worth saving?

Whatever the outcome of the battle, a certain interfering faery is resolved to see fate back on its correct path. And that means forcing Lorna and Logan together—no matter their differences...

I loved this book and I still love the little fairy. Especially the whole wolf part she did in the end , got to say even that made me chuckle!

I was glad to see Lorna got her HEA, even if she did suffer a great lost in the last book. Her and Logans story was a great one and even though he never remembers her I was happy to see him fall back in love with her.

I feel bad for Logan, I mean not only is he in the dark about his past. But he was lied too and made to believe one thing and it was far from the truth.

Overall it was great read and great ending to this series!

The following are my thoughts as I read this book. Lorna mac Dhomhnaill…widow of Laird mac Dhomhnaill, sister-in-law of the new Laird, Gillian, formerly resided at Kilcree Keep. Logan of Kilcree…formerly and presently the chieftain of Keep, has amnesia, has a history with Lady Lorna. I’ve read the other two books in the series, so of course I have to complete the series. This one also starts with drama and danger. Yep already the h has gotten herself into trouble. There is a massive untruth being perpetrated, and the H doesn’t know. Oh this villain is diabolical. The h is surprised, grateful, and confused all at the same time. The H is determined to not let the h stop the dreams he has been told to have. Teile has been secretly manipulating the MCs. Oooo here comes the angst, I’m all tense. Yes, trouble has found the MCs and does not look good. Oh oh the danger is here! Hurry, sir before it is too late. Yes a HEA. There is definitely steam in this book. I must admit this book actually caught me by surprise. It employed a plot that I didn’t anticipate, yea. The interaction between the MCs was so intense at times that I could feel the desperation from each. I believe this one is my favorite simply because it caught me unaware. I’m finished and I still feel like I’m ready to do battle for love. See for yourself, happy reading.

To Avenge Her Highland Warrior is the 3rd book in the series and ties in to events from book 2 To Dream of a Highlander. This book could be read as a standalone but I feel it would beneficial to read at least book 2 to familiar yourself with the characters. We do meet characters from book 1 in this story but they aren’t a focal point.

Lorna believed Logan perished on the grounds of her old homestead. She returns one year later to avenge his death but killing Laird Gillean, the man she deems responsible for the collapse of her world. Upon arrival though she is captured and imprisoned. Sickness takes her and old soldier takes pity on her condition and removes her to a stateroom to be guarded. The solider is Logan, who after the attack, lost his memory and has no idea of their previous relationship.

Deep down, Logan feels a connection to this woman, but after everything Laird Gillean has told him about Lorna, he can’t trust his feelings. Having lost his memory, he has only the stories relayed to him by the Laird as proof of his past upbringing.

Lorna must switch her fight now from avenging Logan’s death to securing his future. A future with her and their son, who she conceived on their only time together. Can she break through the fog that has become his memory and tap into the connection they once had?

Oh my, what a heart pounding/heart stopping story! We met Logan in book two, and he was such an honorable and courageous warrior, who was in love with Lorna. When he was declared dead, both Lorna and I cried. Determined to avenge his death, Lorna sneaks back into Kilcree with the intention of killing Gillean….she doesn’t plan to get captured. Imagine her surprise when she discovers that her jailor is Logan, with a scar across his neck and no memory of her. Not only that, but he believes the lies that Gillean has told him, and is acting as his right-hand man. While Lorna tries to convince Logan of their past relationship, Gillean is plotting with the Vikings to destroy her clan and take over the Highlands. This is a story filled with turmoil…both emotional and physical. It will have your heart pounding and keep you on the edge of your seat. I often found myself holding my breath and wishing I could read faster. It is intense, with lots of physical altercations and interactions….and is a wild ride from beginning to end!.

Enjoyable.
Warrior Logan has amnesia and stubborn lass Lorna insists that they used to be lovers. Logan only knows of following orders from his laird and those orders were to prepare for war, not follow his heart.
These two had such chemistry and such steam! I loved the characters. This story does involve Fae magic so if you aren't a fan- be aware. I don't necessarily like when authors bring in faeries and magic but in this book, it is with little snippets and the faery is quite mischievous in a funny way. Still, it was one of those feelings that the book could do without the faery but I really didn't mind her.
Some things that lowered this rating for me were the overuse of 'Ach' and lots of repetitive paragraphs. The book actually could have been more succinct and tidy without waffling on for so long.
But what I did enjoy was the storyline and the two main characters.
A solid 4 stars.

Lorna believes Logan is dead, and she knows Laird Gillean should be. When she is caught in the Laird’s castle and imprisoned in the donjon. Logan is her guard. She is shocked; he can’t remember her or what happened to him. They face some huge challenges. Can Lorna help unlock Logan’s memories. Can she escape Gillean’s castle and plans for her? Help arrives once again in the small green faeri named Teile. It is her mission to see that Lorna and Logan find their way back to each other and find their happily ever after. This is another exciting and compelling Highland adventure and romance, the last in the saga, and my favorite. There is scheming, betrayal, and danger. Lorna and Logan are strong and draw you into their story. Familiar characters from the other stories are here to help. The villains, especially the greedy Gillean, can look for their comeuppance. Convinced she is a matchmaker extraordinaire, Teile is happy and may just stick around.

Following on from the previous two books in this series, Lady Lorna is determined to avenge the great injustice done to her and her clan by her brother-in-law, Laird Gillean. Apart from the destruction of her home, the fact that he killed her lover and the father of her son, is enough reason to plot her revenge on him. Caught stealing into the castle by Logan, whom she thought dead, Lorna is dismayed to find that not only does he not remember her, but that he believes the lies he has been told, and shackles her to a wall in the dungeon. The third in the series, this novel is also pretty graphic in its brutality, and once again the fairy Tèile is under pressure to open the eyes of two people who surely belong together and to see the love there is simmering between them, but also to give them the benefit of her superpowers in bringing peace to the area. The plot is harsh and somewhat volatile, but ultimately Tèile wins the day with a spectacular solution to the battle plan.

Lost Love, Teile the Faery, Wolves:
Third book in this series and the best book of the series.
This story is of Lorna and Logan's romance which is filled with surprises, excitement and thrills.
Their love story is so emotionally challenging with lots of sensuous passion.
Many twists, scary battles, scary Northmen, the mischievous green faery who plays apart in saving their romance.
A thrilling story that I read straight through. It was just too exciting to stop reading till the very scary end.
I really enjoyed that fast paced surprising ending of this thrilling story.
Mature Advisory:

It took me a while to get into this story, maybe because I hadn’t read the previous books in the series. I did feel for Logan, having memory loss and different people telling him different stories of what had happened previously. He must have felt very confused. Lady Lorna had her share of a hard life with her first husband and now she discovered Logan was alive. It was an enjoyable read but most of the action takes place in the last third of the book. There was danger and eventually romance in this book. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own,

The story of Logan and Lorna followed a very interesting path. I liked how they were so many unknowns as well as deviations from the truth that made the story so interesting. how does one connect with the one you love when they don’t remember anything about you in your past together? The devious plots of Ivar and Gillian Just added to the suspense and the feeling of good versus evil. Watching Lorna and Logan interact in such abrupt and distrustful ways in the beginning had me rooting for their HEA right to the very end.

Series books, my favorite kinds!

I love reading books in a series because they widen out the cast of characters in a way that allows the reader to enjoy the additional parts of the story. Bringing everything together and tying the broader stories together adds to the total story detail and depth. Ms. Holts continuation of her cast makes each new book another link that adds the readers enjoyment by the last book. I enjoyed reading each one of great stories of villains, heroes and strong women who overcome hardships and I the end get the men they love.

This is book 3 in this series. Although it could be read as a stand alone I think it would be enjoyed better if book 2 was read first.

Lorna feels as thought she has lost everything and wants revenge on the man who caused her pain.
Logan has lost his memory. He has little time for this noblewoman that has been captured.

Tiele the little green Faery is at it again to play matchmaker. I liked some of her antics.

I found some of the book a bit repetitive and slow but on the whole I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this book, the heroine, was determined to avenge her lost love, only to have the surprise of her life. The story flows, well, and does not shy away from showing some of the more brutal issues of battle, love and loss. The Fae, is much more subtle in this story, and does not really get involved until the end, but does not distract from the main love story. All 3 books in this series have been good.

Fantastic

This book and the characters are absolutely fantastic. Lorna and Logan intrigued me in book two and I was excited to read their story. This book can be read alone, but book two gives some information that happened before and why Lorna was returning for revenge. This book is passionate and steamy so not recommended for those that prefer just a few kisses. I can say I will miss the couples in the series.

Amnesia was a unique twist.
This is a very good story all the twists and turns kept me on my toes great writing. There is mystery and suspense that is woven into a love story that does have it challenges and if all of this wasn’t enough we have just a touch of magic. Awesome characters that I enjoyed getting to know. High praise for this piece it is one I am very happy to recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

Romantic

I love this series but I have to question "Ach" what is it.

In this book, Logan said he was 30 and lost 2 decades of his life.
How could he be 10 and love Lorna. Very confusing.

The fae has a hand in creating true love once again. Logan and Lorna get a second chance at a future in this borderland romance. Both are wonderfully stubborn characters that keep the reader entertained. With Vikings and Highlanders it is a action filled adventure to love.

The novel is a combustible mix of revenge, passion and redemption, sprinkled with a little fairy magic and I loved it! It contains a dark, torn and tortured alpha hero and a strong and vulnerable heroine who belong together, but who fate has torn apart.

The faery Tiele, determined to put this wrong to right, has a battle royal on her hands to reconcile these two lovers due to events that have transpired. Her task is all the more difficult for she has sworn off the direct use of her powers, as the use of such magic in the past has resulted in unforeseen consequences.

As soon as the book opens I was drawn in – the heroine Lorna, who is widowed, is in dire straits, captive in the bowels of her former home that was brutally wrestled from her by her brother-in-law. Having failed in her mission to kill this usurper she now awaits his punishment. Imagine her surprise and relief when she finds that the man in charge of the keep whilst its master is absent is none other than Logan, the man who once loved her, the man who she had rejected and believed slain in the battle for her home.

Yet there is no happy reunion between the couple as this man is a far cry from the Logan who adored her. Instead he is a cold and distant stranger, his memory erased by the injuries he sustained during battle. He views his captive as little more than the spoilt and manipulative woman his Laird tells him she is, and he does not recall how he once loved his former mistress from afar. Whatever Lorna says she cannot help him remember or trust her enough to believe her – he views whatever she says as lies, designed to save her own skin.

Although attraction between them simmers, Logan is determined not to betray his Laird and succumb to this woman. However, he slowly comes to respect her combination of strength and vulnerability and becomes torn once he finds out what his Laird’s plans for his captive may entail. There are scenes aplenty of sexual tension, frustrated passion and love making which brings them ever closer, but not close enough, as Logan fights the connection that exists between them. Will he act to save her? Will he remember their love before it is too late? Even if he does, can Lorna accept him for the man he has become and forgive him for what he has put her through?

I so felt for both these characters in this book! Lorna had lost so much, yet she is strong and resilient in terrible circumstances, especially as the very man who should have been her saviour is now her gaoler and is a stranger to her. She is fearful for her own future and that of Logan, who seems lost to her and her emotions oscillate between hope and despair. Logan is as tortured a hero as they come and is torn between loyalty to his Laird and what he is beginning to feel for the captive. I also enjoyed the supporting characters in the tale, especially Lorna’s self-serving brother-in-law, whose actions added tension to the plot and of course Tiele whose presence and antics contributed to some humorous moments to the plot in her efforts to save the day.

All in all, I found it a sensual, heart stopping and entertaining read and a great conclusion to the Highland Fae Chronicles. A copy of this book was given to me by the author for a fair and honest review.

Title: TO AVENGE HER HIGHLAND WARRIOR
Series: Highland Fae Chronicles #3
Category /Genre: Romance
Recommended for: 18 + due to sexual content
Received from: Samantha Holt (in exchange for an honest review)
Grammar/editing: A – near perfect

This is the third and final book in the Highland Fae Chronicles. It does stand alone, but I suggest reading them in order.

Lorna is seeking revenge on the man who has taken her home and killed her soul mate. Captured and placed in the dungeon – shackled, dirty, and certain that she will be put to death. Imagine her surprise when she sees that the man holding her prisoner is Logan. Logan remembers nothing of his life before be treated for his severe battle wounds. He is determined to create a new life under his laird, despite the scars and amnesia, and has quickly risen to be Lord Gillean’s lead warrior. He doesn’t believe Lorna when she claims they were lovers, believing it to be tricks and manipulation to get him to release her before Gillean returns and the Norse Wars begin again. So why does he feel a tingle when they touch? Can Lorna convince him of their past? Can the fairy Teile once again succeed as a matchmaking fairy without using too much magic and destroying time lines?

I love Logan and Lorna. There is a fire and intensity in their hearts, and their words, when they are together that is only rivaled by the intelligence and loyalty they both have.

I ached for both of them over Logan’s amnesia. His innate goodness has allowed him to believe the lies he has lived for the last year and to now believe that Lorna is the one trying to manipulate him. Lorna has lived with the soul-crushing loss of him for the last year and now that he is there, alive, in front of her, she is being crushed again by the lies that he believes to be the truth.

There were also a lot of light-hearted scenes that had me giggling, especially at the end when Teile uses just a wee bit of magic to move things in the right direction.

I am truly sorry to see this series end. Samantha Holt is a wonderful author and I am looking forward to very many stories from her.

Review Courtesy of: Books That Hook

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

This was my first time reading a book about Highlanders. I thought it was a great historical romance, especially because of Samantha Holt's use of Scottish dialect. I also liked that she worked in a little fantasy; Logan's and Lorna's relationship is aided by a matchmaking faery. She adds a bit of comic relief to an otherwise heavy story.

To Avenge Her Highland Warrior brings passion, drama, and thrills to the reader. Samantha Holt did an excellent job of making the reader feel what Lorna and Logan were feeling. I was angry at the villains (and at Logan's stubbornness) during certain parts of the book. Other times,I feared for the safety of the characters.

The pacing of the book was great. It didn't lag or weigh the reader down with blocks of backstory. The author told the reader enough to understand what had happened in the past, but not so much as to become boring. I liked that it was easy to jump into the story without having read previous books in the series.

I only found one note-worthy contradiction, which says a lot, because usually I find more things that don't make sense or don't fit with earlier statements or actions. The instance I found was this: Lorna thinks that Gillian turned "the one man who accepted her for all she was" against her. This contradicts what Lorna thought only a few pages earlier, when she worried that Logan would reject her because of her scars that he hadn't seen yet. If she is afraid he's going to reject her because of her scars, and if he doesn't know about the scars, then he hasn't accepted her for all she is (yet).

That is such a small issue that it doesn't impact my impression of the book. My only other complaint was that it was too short. It's more like a long novella than a novel. With that said, I think it was adequate for the story that needed to be told.

I would read more Samantha Holt books and recommend it to historical romance readers.

Thank you, My Family's Heart & Samantha Holt, for the opportunity to read this story.

This is book 3 and it was wonderful. I really enjoyed the story, it was one of those books that I couldn't put down till I was completely finished with it.

This was a well written story. I really enjoyed the characters of this story. Lorna is a strong, independent woman and she has survived a lot. Logan is strong, independent and willful. Lorna is overwhelmed with revenge and she ends up finding her lost love. Logan is a man with no memory and was lied to and almost lost everything, but in the end gained a life with the woman he fell in love with. This was a great Highland love story and I truly enjoyed it.

This story had the perfect amount of action (the battle) and romance. The battle for both Logan's memories and the protection of Lorna's family was epic and it was mind blowing to read. Samantha Holt has a great eye for portraying details is wonderful.

I enjoyed the way that Samantha Holt used the way that Highlanders truly talk. Samantha Holt truly captured my attention with the story all the way to the end. I felt as though I was there in the story myself. It is a really great love story. She has a great sense for words. I would reread this series.

For me I couldn't find anything wrong with this story. It is well written and she was able to convey her story perfectly for me to see the story as a movie playing in my head as I read the story. I seriously couldn't put this book down. I loved this book.

This story I give 5 full stars and would recommend this series to anyone that loves historical romances with highlanders to read. I loved it and can't wait to read this series again. Samantha Holt is one of my top highland historical romance writers.

Great read..

I knew the minute I stared this book it would be my favorite of the three.

LOL.. The author keeps describing Lorna as having a pointed chin and every time I read that it reminds me of the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz. Now, that was a pointed chin and not good to imagine in a romance novel.

Wow! I was really getting anxious about Logan finding out the truth. It wasn’t until almost 75% that he overheard Dillean talking to Ivar about it. I was just saddened that Logan didn’t kill Dillean when he confronted him about all the lies. Bummer!

It was good when Logan caught up with Lorna, after her escape. And then when he saw her back while they were at the stream. He was more than a little ticked off. He was so tender with her.

The battle at the end was good and I was surprised that Logan never got his memory back. It was nice seeing Finn and Catriona and Morgann and Alana again. AND it was very nice that Gillean and Ivar got exactly what they deserved.

And it was especially nice to see Teile doing her fun stuff throughout all three books.

There was some nice sexual tension and wonderfully written sex in this book.

I got this series free with KindleUnlimited.
