With her true inheritance lost, Rosalyn Montagu has reluctantly fallen into her elderly cousin’s tidy London life of do-gooder spinster. When a young woman from the district of Rosalyn’s childhood is put up for auction in a wife sale, Rosalyn seizes the chance to rescue her—and to recover a treasured family heirloom, her father’s signet ring, purloined by the woman’s innkeeper husband. Intent on liberating the young wife with the money she has scraped together, Rosalyn braves a precarious Christmas Eve coach ride in the company of a mysterious nobleman. She soon finds she is not the only determined buyer attending the sale. Her rakish opponent not only succeeds in thwarting her purchase; he reveals himself as the man who took everything that should have been hers. Everything, that is, but her father’s ring, which she manages to recover before being tossed out of the inn into the snowy night. The newly anointed Viscount Cathmore has accepted there is no way to avoid living his father’s dream of accession to a social class he disdains, but he has drawn the line at marrying a blue-blooded miss. Then he meets Rosalyn, a provoking beauty with an upper crust manner, a larcenous streak, and enough secrets to rouse even his jaded heart, including the truth of her identity—she is the woman whose home and inheritance he has usurped. But more mysteries swirl around Rosalyn’s lost inheritance, and Cathmore is just the man to help her uncover the truth.
Award winning and USA Today bestselling author Alina K. Field earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and German literature, but prefers the much happier world of romance fiction. Though her roots are in the Midwestern U.S., after six very, very, very cold years in Chicago, she moved to Southern California where she shares a midcentury home with her husband and her spunky blonde rescued terrier.
This is the first book I have read by Alina K. Field, and I found it to be a delightful novella.
After Rosalyn’s public coach ride is stranded due to weather, she finds herself begging for a ride from the owner of a private coach. Seated across from Lord Cathmore, she begins telling little white lies to protect herself and to hide her quest. When she surprisingly finds herself back at Brockton Manor, her prior home, Field begins weaving mysteries to be solved by both Cathmore and Rosalyn. As they do, their attraction for one another ignites.
This is a good book for a lazy afternoon. It moves at a quick pace and has conflict, mystery, suspense, romance, and a few steamy scenes to entice the reader to continue turning the page. With the addition of the beautiful cover, this is a perfect little package.
Rosalyn's Ring is the perfect regency novella to curl up to on a cold winter's night. Alina K. Field is an exceptional writer and adds so much historical tidbits as well as a sweeping romance to her stories. Rosalyn is such a wonderful heroine and I enjoyed this story immensely. Highly recommend!
Disclaimer: I purchased an older e-copy (no longer available) on Amazon CA.
Rosalyn Montagu is the last survivor of the House of Montagu. She has two goals: one is to save the “cousin” of her maid from being sold as chattel, and the other is to retrieve a ring taken from her father. She gets unexpected help from someone she’d rather not acknowledge. Lord Cathmore, the man who now owns the estate where she grew up. If only Lord Cathmore wasn’t so handsome and virile and unexpectedly kind, perhaps she could hate him the way she wants to.
A charming story. Rosalyn is on a mission and nothing--not even a snow storm--or nobody will get in her way. A great Christmas story, with some heart-wrenching moments. I loved her characters--so strong, so determined, despite the trials and disappointments she'd been through. At first, I didn't find Cathmore to be a nice guy. Yet, he soon won me over, like he did Rosalyn. Touching and heartwarming.
Rosalyn’s Ring is a delightful read from talented writer Alina K. Field. Kind, beautiful redhead, Rosalyn Monagu, is unmarried and beyond the usual age for marriage. After her father lost his fortune along with the signet ring he’d given to Rosalyn, she fell under her elderly benefactress’ care. Rosalyn supports herself where her heart lies, caring for children at a London orphanage. Foremost in her mind is finding her ring which holds tender memories but keeps this a secret. Rosalyn is stunned when she hears about the auctioning off of a young woman she’d once known with her illegitimate baby. The auction is called a wife sale and is scheduled for Christmas Eve at an inn. Intent on saving the woman, Rosalyn braves a winter snowstorm and joins Lord Cathmore, a newly appointed viscount, aboard his coach. Cathmore reminds Rosalyn of a rakish pirate, but underneath his powerful exterior, he doesn’t care for newly acquired social class and pressure to marry a woman of the ton. During their journey, he becomes attracted to the unassuming Rosalyn who looks almost identical to the portrait at their recently acquired estate. She does something he finds wrong. Attraction builds between Rosalyn and Hamish, Lord Cathmore, but will the truth behind what Rosalyn did keep them apart?

Rosalyn Montagu volunteers her time at an orphanage. But she is presently on a mission to rescue a woman who is being auctioned off by her husband.
In the midst of a snowstorm, Rosalyn and her maid are sharing a carriage with Hamish Maxwell, Lord Cathmore and Mr. Logan. It seems they are all headed for the same destination.
Rosalyn's other quest is to find the Montagu signet ring promised to her by her late father.
This was SUCH a fun story! The novella has a great cast of characters, and the heroine is absolutely wonderful. I heard that it was set at Christmas, so I read it in December, but the holiday doesn't play a huge part in the story, so that may be a plus or minus for you. I enjoyed how all the pieces fit together in the end. A really fun story.
Fun, clever, romantic, and sexy! Palpable setting. Impressive amount of characterization for Rosalyn in so few pages; had a good sense for who she was. This book gave me two hours of pure escapism for which I am grateful.
What would bring Lady Rosalyn Montagu and her slothful maid, Nelly to the Strutting Stag Inn in Glen Murray on a miserably cold and wet night on the eve of Christmas? Ned Morgan announced that there would be an auction. This was not just any auction but he fully intended to auction away his daughter, Mindy and her child William to the highest bidder. Lady Rosalyn was determined to liberate Mindy and hopefully also recover her family’s signet ring, which was also in the possession of said Ned Morgan. All may have gone according to plan if Lord Hamish Maxwell, Viscount Cathmore and his traveling companion, Mr. Logan didn’t add a wrinkle to her plans. Lord Cathmore had a debt to repay. Mr. Logan had saved his life on the final day of battle. He professed a love for the hapless Mindy Morgan and Hamish Maxwell was there to purchase Mindy and her child for his friend and savior, Mr. Logan. Unaware of Rosalyn’s true identity, he had to admit that he was instantly attracted to her. Her auburn hair and sea-green eyes simply stole his breath away. His presence had a similar effect on her. Set in the post-Waterloo period, the author brings the essence of a wintery Georgian Christmas romance to life. No spirits of Christmases Past, Present, and Future but enough holiday cheer and romance to sate the appetite of any quixotic. As the days grow shorter and the temperature drops, I feel the Yuletide season approaching. I often seek stories of winter and Christmas to reinforce my holiday spirit. This isn’t like many I’ve read in the past but it does check off all of the boxes.
Rosalyn leaves London seeking a woman and child needing rescue. She accepts help from Lord Cathmore and Mr. Logan to reach her destination when she gets stranded; turns out their destination and reason is the same. A story of lost ring and rightful ownership, developing romance, revelations, succumbing to desires, and wishes coming true. I recommend this entertaining novella.
Carriage rides, women auctioned off, and babies yelling. Not to mention theives, log fights and Christmas parties. Realizing that parents are human when they disappoint us.Forgiveness, and romance this tale has it all. Everyone who enjoys a good read will not be disappointed!
An nicely spun "stranded" story. Modest and independent spinster Rosalyn and her maid accept transportation to the next village from two strangers. They soon learn all four are heading for the same auction. Roslyn also learns some unexpected and hurtful truths about people she trusted.
I was enjoying this novella up until the H (who is attracted to the virgin h) promises her that if she accompanies him home, he will respect her and behave like a gentleman. Cut to 5 minutes later, he's trying to break into her room so he can ravish her. What a jerk!
This a short and sweet novella. At first, the put me off just a bit. It lends itself to the place and time though, so it’s actually quite appropriate. It just took a little getting used to. I always enjoy novellas because the HEA come so quickly. In the case of this one though, I would have liked a longer story. This is a very sweet story and I liked the characters as they were developing. I think it could have easily been made into a full length novel. None-the-less, it brought me the satisfaction of a happy ending, although the ending was a little abrupt. Even keeping to the length of a novella, I think this story would have been stronger if the ending had been a little better crafted. It seemed hurried, like the author had hit their word count and needed to quickly sew up the loose ends. If you’re looking for a quick and happy little “pick-me-up,” this novella fits the bill. It also piqued my interest in author, although I’m not sure how I would feel about the language throughout a longer novel. However, I would be interested in giving it a shot.
Goodreads win. WIll read and review once received.
I truly loved and enjoyed what I read from this book. It was a quick read and a very captivating book. The moment I got it in the mail I sat down and read it without putting down once. Rosalyn is definitely a character I would love to see again in books. A great read and i hope others enjoy it as much as I do.
This is the first of Ms. Fields books that I have read. It brings the point that we never know what we will find when we go back home. It is a happy ever after for all parties involved. A good quick read over a nice cup of tea.
