Not for Fourth Graders!

Some children have become so jaded that they don’t get as easily scared as children have in the past.

I read the short stories in this book collection to my fourth grade class and they were not impressed with half of the stories.

Still, they liked the other half of them, so that says something.

Three stars. ✨

Overall, Arnie Lightning's "10 Halloween Stories for Kids" is an entertaining and highly imaginative book. It's easy to see how this collection of scary, fictitious tales would appeal to most youngsters, but I don't think I'd recommend it for children younger than 8 or maybe 10 years of age. I suppose that's somewhat debatable though, given that kids see and hear a lot more than scary stories on TV and the Internet these days.

All of the stories are interesting, but most may actually be just a little too short. The brevity of each tale isn't actually the problem, but rather, that some of the stories read like the first chapter of a book that just suddenly ends, without further explanation. Some of the stories do feel more or less complete, but others sort of leave the reader hanging. Which, I suppose, is a suitable punchline in and of itself, but still....

So even though I did enjoy the Twilight Zone type of surprise ending that the author often employees, this device is much more effectively utilized in some parts of the book than others. It would also have been nice to have seen at least one illustration per story, but aside from the cover artwork, there really aren't any illustrations to speak of. Not a bad collection of creepy tales (some of which are exceptionally creative), but then again, it's hard to shake the feeling that there's just a little something missing here.

Here's just the ebook who loves to read Halloween Ghost Stories!

I found them to be quite interesting and some pretty scary! But I suppose the kids who are ages 8-12 and in grades3-6 will really enjoy it! So, because of this I am giving it five stars and for this free ebook I was given, I have finished reading am going to give it an honest review! Great work Arnie! By Angela

Comprised of ten short stories that are quick and easy to read, the tales shared within Arnie Lightning’s 10 Halloween Stories for Kids evokes a sense of urban legends that tend to be shared at a sleepover or around a campfire, offering readers, or listeners, a bit of a fright.

To read this, and other book reviews, visit my website: http://makinggoodstories.wordpress.com/.

Written in a manner that is easily accessible for younger readers, these ten collected stories provide an opportunity to be startled by the haunting surprises they contain without becoming overly gruesome or frightening to the point of inciting nightmares. The tales are quite short, typically a page at most, making the scenarios move incredibly swiftly from their introduction to conclusion, which for some works rather well but for others makes it feel as if the story is only beginning as it ends abruptly; the brevity begs for further development and perhaps it’s meant to be up to the reader to imagine what could happen next.

This was free but still a major disappointment. The stories are only about a page and a half long and not completed. They end abruptly without any climax or conclusion. I read a few of them to my 4 year old which just left him confused and disappointed. I ended up making something up for him as an ending to the stories that we read because you can't reason with a 4 year old and just tell him "well that book sucked. Sorry!" They need closure!

I liked it!

My favorite story in this collection is "Don't Believe in Ghosts". It was the only one that had an ending really. I think the other stories were meant for the child and parent to use their imaginations for the ending. Kids will really like this book.

Halloween: Scary Halloween Stories for Kids

These stories were definitely milder and less scary but would fit well for the younger generation. I would read the book again and recommend it to others.

Simple Halloween stories

These stories are easy and short but great for younger children. Nothing to scary and likely to cause nightmares. Recommend this to children in grade school as a pleasant distraction.

Short and sweet

Great for grade school age kids. Short stories are entertaining and fun. Not to scary. Even had some Halloween jokes at the end! I have heard many a scary stories, have not heard of any of these, that's pretty rare for a horror lover like me!

Okay

Okay stories. I like reading with my little sister, but these are a bit advanced for her to really understand. They're still cute little stories, though.

Kinda dorky

Ok I can see where these would be frightening for a kid between 6 and 10. It was good though considering.

Spooky stories

It doesn't have to be Halloween to enjoy these short stories. They are spooky like what you would tell at a sleepover to scare your friends.

Light reading for kids.
It's not exactly horror, but it could be nice start-ups for bigger horror projects.

These are terrific spooky stories. The spook factor is turned up a little in these stories. There is a link to Arnie Lightning store. There are also jokes in the back of the book. What kind of street does a ghost like best? A Dead End!! Lol. The stories in this book are great and short enough and interesting enough your kid will read it over and over. They will also be able to remember and share the stories with their friends. I picked one story to share.
William's Halloween
William is a werewolf and he loves Halloween. It is the one night a year he can go outside and frighten people. This year he is hiding out in the cemetery and sees teenagers coming. He jumps out in front of them. He climbs a tree so he can see their faces as they run away. He hears a little girl crying. Some bad people jumped out and threw eggs on her and she lost her mom and dad. He helped her find her parents and from then on he became the helpful werewolf of Halloween. He made sure no child was pranked and he made sure they were safe.
I found this book on Amazon for free and so can you.

Are you ready for some ten very spooky Halloween stories?

I found this to be a bit on the scary side, myself and not really a fan of this type of stories but a is, sure that kids from 5-12 should be very delighted in reading these. So, I am recommending this for this age group and for a five star rating for these kids. I received this for free, the ebook and here is my honest review.

Plenty of treats in this collection.

This collection of short Halloween stories for kids is really nice. The stories are the type that set up a spooky scare but leave it to the reader's imagination to fill in the details. There isn't any gore or excessive scares to really disturb younger readers.

There are a couple of clunkers but they are offset by a couple of true gems. I would recommend this collection for younger readers wanting some appropriate scares for Halloween.
