Theresa Joanne (T.J. to her mates) is having a difficult year. First her best friend moves away then classmate Wendy appears to have it in for her. Plus there's the problem with boys. They treat her like a mate and never seem to notice that she's a girl. When Lucy befriends T.J. things start to look up. But will Nesta and Izzie also accept her? Will they let her into the world of sleepovers, secrets, laughter and advice? Can they help T.J. be herself and discover her real potential?
What i've learned from this book is that the main characters Lucy,Nesta, and Izzie invite their "friend",T.J from school to Lucy's house for a sleepover so they could get to know her. Then they becomce friends but Nesta get's jealous of T.J because she thinks Lucy and Izzie are T.J's friends instead of hers.
In the second book of the whole book BESTIES Nesta's brother Tony breaks up wit Nesta's friend Lucy becasue he wants to see other girls. so Izzie and Nesta try to cheer Lucy up while T.J is gone in Ireland for a week. So Izzie tells Lucy to write all the things she likes and wants in a boy on a peice of paper and see what happens. Lucy meets the perfect guy-Daniel but she was wrong, she found out he's controlling, not a very good listener and not polite so she breaks up with Daniel and throws an all single party to feel better and to hang out with friends.
OMFG-I loved Mates,Dates, and Mad Mistakes becasue it's all drama. This book is about izzie and she wants her ,Lucy,T.J,and Nesta to be joined together so they could be friends forevr so she decides that they all get their bell buttona peirced.so only Lucy and Izzie get theirs peirecd. Then after their all done. Izzie keeps seeing the same creepy biker dude at the park so one night he follows her and they go to the park and talk. Then a few weeks go but and Nesta throws a sleepover so her parents are gone for the weekend so they all get drun kand crash out at Nesta's place. Then Izzie's mom finds out about her stud and she and hger friends get grounded for a week.So the next week Izzie brings Josh the guy at the park and his friends Spider to her ex-boyfriends house Ben becasue she told them their in a band so that night Izzie,Lucy,T.J,Nesta, adn Josh and Spider and Ben and the band so they perform and after the show They all hang out and Josh spiked Izzie's pinnaple juice with vodka and she gets so drunk that Lucy's mom hjas to come pick them all up and then the yall have a big argument and then Izzie runs away from home after she found out her mom read her dianry and so Izzie went to her dads house but then she told him everything and he called her mokm and she giot into even more troulbe so in the end Izzie dumps Josh and her friends forgive her and her ex-boyfriend Ben.
Let me just say that each girl has a unique voice and such interesting POV's. Honestly, it's a joy-ride filled with a LOT of bad judgements and mistakes. Which I enjoy, because teenage years will be hectic as. . . . A LOT OF THINGS ARE CHANGING. Especially for Izzie. Oh, innocent, sweet, Izzie. I enjoy her wisdom and her story. :)
What I don't like is the british slang. "Brill" , "fab" , "snog" , "hol" , and most likely more. It's not as if I'm confused about them, but it seems as if the author wants to take this in an American setting, then changes it by saying something like "Thank goodness we're on hol."
I feel as if each book in this series is the same. Not in the voices, but as in the experiences. At the end of the day, we all know that: 1) They meet a boy 2)They get over a mistake (maybe the boy was moving too quick, too clingy, etc.) 3)They learn something about themselves that links to the boy
Honestly, I'm tired of the petty drama and hearing them say "yum" at every exotic boy that comes their way.
The storyline bores me, too. If I have nothing admittedly better to do, I will read this book. And the romance. Oh. My. Gosh. Basically, they were all the same. The girl would get a certain thrill (like he's sensitive, quirky, etc.) that they enjoy, but bah! It's as if it's even there. Except for T.J's story. I think that they have some romance. Geeky romance, but romance nonetheless.
But I do enjoy some of the things about this book, too. It seems as if the author has a very large knowledge on teens, because it was very in depth and emotional. Mainly very dramatic emotions, but still portrayed very well.
I loved Friend Me and I loved Besties just as much. I did not like TJ at first. It just seemed like she didn't fit. The only thing I didn't like About this book is some of the ended relationships, but I definitely recommend this book and Friend me (first three). And I didn't like that Nesta wasn't a narrator .
I found this in a used bookshop in Pakistan and couldn't resist buying it. I'd read all the books of the series in German when I was twelve/thirteen and absolutely loved them, and I was surprised to find that Charlie (TJ) and Gina (Nesta) have different names in English. It was very interesting to read all the early 2000s teenager lingo, words I hadn't heard before like "crapola". Great!
This volume, containing books 4-6 of the Mates Dates series, was a lot more enjoyable for me, as I was in more of a mood to read younger teen fiction. Won't be reading the rest of the series, but only because I'm a bit too old.
Really Liked this series, though i haven't read all of them. Very well developed characters though some can be a little caddy, it's all about lessons they've learned from being that way.
