Alien Wolf Tales #3

Alien Charming

Rate this book
A powerful alpha. An invisible female. One magical night.

Elli has always been invisible. Overworked, underestimated, and overshadowed by her manipulative aunt, her only refuge is the quiet sanctuary of her garden—until she realizes that someone is watching her from the woods.

Seren is long past the age when most Vultor males have either taken a mate or succumbed to their beast, but although it looks as if he will escape that curse, his loneliness grows stronger each year. Until he catches sight of a shy little human female. She is too young, too fragile, and too innocent for a hardened Vultor warrior, and yet he can't stay away from her.

When fate offers Elli a chance for one magical night with Seren, she seizes the opportunity. But midnight always comes and when it does, will he let her go or keep her forever?

Each book in the Alien Wolf Tales series may be read as a standalone romance. These sweet and steamy tales are intended for mature readers.

This was a cute alien/shifter take on Cinderella, i.e. the OG mistreated but sweet FMC who captivates the powerful MMC. 😆

The story was straightforward and easy to read, in a low angst/low energy requirement sort of way.

I did want more .

What would it be like, she wondered, to have someone stand up for me that way?

Ellie is living a horrible life with her aunt Margaret. Her greedy, selfish, cruel aunt who is in talks with the Vultor leader about trade negotiations. It’s very important for the people in her town and the Vultors. It will bring in money but most importantly peace within both peoples. Seren, the Vultor warrior and leader falls in love with Ellie and man does he come in and rescue her. But the way it’s done!! *chef’s kiss* Yes, he saves her but she saves him right back. I love how they help each other and in the end choose each other before anything else. Lucky for them both, choosing each other doesn’t mean giving up their passions or previous lives. It means building a better one together.

Super cute and kind of predictable but I loved the story and how there were no loose ends at the end. By loose needs I mean aunt Margaret. Haha.

I loved the other books, but this was one was just okay.
Statement: The mate concept does NOT work when the party knowing about the mate status remains unsure.
The MMC knows that she is being mistreated by EVERYONE. And can live with that. PERIOD.
That fact hurt even more when she officially became his mate and the pack didn't really welcome her. He told her that he would give up the alpha title so why couldn't he do more (take her away from the village) or in the case of her welcome (when he knows she had been isolated in the village) make his pack welcome her. And we didn't even get to see her character strength when she made her own life in the pack, because it happened off-page.

And it felt foul that he would be intimate with her knowing her situation. He knew that she was all alone, was being mistreated, was a virgin, would be ostracized if anyone found out she was meeting him and thought that he wouldn't ever take her as his mate. Clear signs to put HER first and not their desire for each other.

Also, how the villagers treated her enraged me so much, I thought that the FMC and MMC would set the situation right after they got proof.
Instead the whole "the aunt was using her as a slave while living in her house and getting everyone to help with the mistreatment" was sooo ineffective. The MC spoke for the FMC. Like, excuse me? Let her take back her power for once.
Aaaand there was no big speech and no real consequences. Did this village not have a justice system? Why didn't the aunt get prosecuted for living of her nieces money (THEFT) , which the FMC won't get back? Not even mentioning the cost of the FMC's labor and trauma!

Sidenote: it also annoyed a bit that the FMC just accepted her situation (didn't save herself), buttt trauma can do that to a person

Great sci fi romance

Seren and Elli are a lovely couple. Agatha is a wonderful fairy godmother. And the evil aunt gets her comeuppance. Sadly, there are no helpful mice or enchanted pumpkins. But there is definitely a HEA.

Although this is the third book in the ‘Alien wolf tales’ series, it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first two story (yet) but I had no problem following the storyline.

This story is set on the planet Cresca and is the romantic story between human girl Elli Dawson and Seren Thalos, the alpha of the Vultor (they look human but are a different species).

Elli lost her mother when she was young, Elli now lives with her aunt Margarit, who is the mayor of their little town, located on the border with the forest where the Vultor live. Her aunt is a cold, ambitious woman, who treats Elli as a slave. Elli has a gentle nature and a big heart, but she also has a strong core. When she has time, Elli likes to spend it in the garden, tending to her plants and experimenting with them. There she meets Seren, first a silent, watchful presence, then a voice that talks to her about everything and finally she meets the man Seren, a Vultor. From the moment he saw her, Seren was intrigued by this young human girl. He never expected that he would talk to her or that she would see him, but it all happens and to his surprise Elli accepts him, a Vultor. Although there are many reasons for Seren to stop meeting Elli (he’s too old for her, he’s the leader of the pack and therefore has a lot of responsibilities, …), he’s very attracted and even obsessed with Elli. Does their love really have a chance or will Elli’s aunt, the people of the village and his pack members team them apart?

I really loved this story. It was a sweet, romantic but also a steamy story. It was a retelling of Cinderella. The story was told from both POV’s. Elli had a gentle and warm character and was intelligent. Seren was just perfect for her, he was older, more experienced, a good leader for his people. After so many years of leading his people, he also deserved happiness. The Vultor were an interesting people, they looked human but when they got angry they grew claws and fangs. There was a beast (wolf like) living inside them, which sometimes came out. Seren’s beast knew from the start that Elli was their mate. Elli and Seren really belonged together.

Elli’s aunt was a difficult and horrible woman. She only thought about money and power. And the people in the village weren’t friendly to Elli. Fortunately, there were some nice people in the story, people who cared for and helped Elli.

I really enjoyed this story and will read the other stories in this series in the future.

'He watched her carefully, searching for signs of the bitterness he'd expect from someone treated so poorly. Yet her expression remained serene as she turned the soil around her plants.
"I'm used to it," she added with a small shrug. "They don't know any better."
Her capacity for forgiveness bewildered him. Among the Vultor, such treatment would have warranted challenge or at minimum, a severing of ties. His people held grudges for generations. Yet this slip of a female dismissed cruelty with understanding.'

A Vultor Cinderella retelling! I absolutely loved it! Cinderella retellings are my favorite to read even if it's not my favorite fairy tale. Great world building and I loved both Elli and Seren. Her aunt Margaret's lies clouded everyone's opinion of her, but she wasn't bitter about it and held her dignity with grace. I liked that she was mayor of the village and in a real position of power, not simply a cruel stepmother in control of the family home.

'Aunt Margaret had crafted her prison so perfectly— walls built not of stone but of whispers and falsehoods. The villagers' perception of her as slow-witted and burdensome was just another chain binding her to her aunt's house.'

A unique and refreshing "enslavement."

I loved the building relationship between Elli and Seren. I thought they were adorable together.

"You'd want an old, battered Vultor like me?" The question was out before he could stop it.
"Did you have anyone else in mind?" she asked, a teasing glint in her eye.

There is some suspense and drama. I love Seren has a pack on his side, and there are some familiar faces in this book. Another amazing addition to this series! 5 stars.

❤️ “You are perfect exactly as you are.”
~~~
Elli is amazing! She’s so sweet, compassionate and caring. Even more, I loved her quiet strength and brilliant mind. And, despite living under the cruelty of her bitter and greedy aunt and being mistreated by the whole village, Elli remains gracious, forgiving and full of kindness. Elli is a remarkable woman with a big heart and I loved her so, so much!
Seren is the alpha of the local Vultor pack. He’s one dangerous, powerful and commanding warrior. But Seren is also an incredibly patient, considerate and kind male. Even more, he fiercely protects what’s his and works so hard to make life better for his people. He’s a truly incredible male and I adored everything about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Elli and Seren! Elli’s life has not been easy, being constantly overworked and underestimated by everyone. She finds her only peace in the quiet time she spends in her garden. But now, she’s being watched by someone from the woods. And the moment Seren catches Elli’s scent, he can’t seem to stay away. I absolutely adored those two together! Every moment they spent in each other’s company was so swoonworthy, tender and sweet and a true delight to read. Even more, I loved how supportive and understanding they were of one another - they truly saw each other for who they really were. Seren and Elli were absolutely perfect for each other and, after everything they went through, they more than deserved to find happiness and love together!
Overall, Alien Charming is a sweet and emotional story and another wonderful addition to the series!
I loved it!
Another Vultor is about to meet his special someone and he is THERE for it. I mean, sure Seren fights it a little because Elli is young and sweet and he thinks she can do better than him, but it doesn't take long before THINGS HAPPEN and these two end up together.
That said, Elli's in a precarious position. Her aunt has poisoned the town against her (by making everyone believe she's slow and can't survive without her aunt's help, which makes Elli completely dependent on her because even if she were to somehow break free, the townsfolk would think they're doing this poor, uneducated, slow girl a favor by returning her to her aunt's house...yeah, that whole thing is just icky. NO LIKE.) and uses Elli as unpaid menial labor while putting her nefarious plans against the Vultor into place.
The brief visits she has with Seren in the woods are Elli's only bright spots in her days. Seren's too, come to think of it. Then Elli crashes the mating ceremony for Korrin and Tessa (with a little magical help from Scarlett's grandmother) and is caught by her not-so-kind aunt, Seren realizes that letting her go is not in the cards for him. To be fair, Elli came to the same conclusion and it isn't long before the two find their way to a happily ever after. I mean, they have to expose Elli's aunt's manipulative lies and turn a fraught situation into something that will benefit both the humans and Vultor first, but they get there. *thumbs up*
This was a fun alien shifter fairy tale retelling of Cinderella and I was happy to finally get to see Seren find his mate after his several appearances in other books. Elli was a really sweet character and I enjoyed getting to know her better after her brief mentioning in the previous book and her and Seren made a nice couple. I love this series so far and am excited to read the next book about Malrik & Bella.
Beautiful story !!!
These books are a tremendously awesome read !!!
On Cresca, the planet where lots of humans have come to recreate the Earth's old west, there are several other beings here as well . The vultor are a race of hybrids that can transform into a sort of wolf. The humans mistrust the vultor. Some with good reason, most with no reason except prejudice.
In this story , we find Elli , A young Lady whose only relative treats her more like a servant. Aunt Margaret is the mayor and has her own agenda. Margaret also tells the villagers that Elli is , A bit " dimwitted " , and plenty of more lies.
But Elli knows the truth, so she just goes along with her aunts treatment.
On this particular day , Elli is tending her garden out back , and she has known that there is someone observing her out past the trees.
Today , she has decided to coax them out to talk.
What she finds is someone totally different .
Seren , ( love that name 😁😁) , is the alpha of the vultor in this area. On his way back and forth , he finds himself watching the pretty lady in her garden. He is more than intrigued.
Isn't that a great start ???
This book is a great , easy , read , that I mostly read while at work. I love that we meet old characters from the previous books . Already looking forward to the next !!!
I love this series. They are standalone stories. But interconnect. The story is a Cinderella theme with a wicked aunt and a loving godmother , Agatha. She seems to be helping quite a few of the humans and Vultor find their fated mates.
We meet Seren in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and then again in How the Aliens Won the West. Being the leader of the pack , he takes his responsibilities seriously. I loved how they first met. He was protective . Very clever when it came to Ellie's aunt and negotiations for a trade agreement.
Ellie has been degraded by her aunt ever since her mother passed away. A servant rather than a niece.
I love the twists in the story. What Korrin discovered (in his usual manner).
The worldbuilding was phenomenal. I could feel Ellie's heartache and her determination not to let her aunt turn her into someone she was not. I loved the bonding ceremony. It was also included in the previous story. see above about interconnected. Now we know why Seren howled after the ceremony.
The HEA for Ellie and Seren was perfect. I love the retelling of Cinderella and her Prince Charming.
Can't wait to read about Bella and Malrik .
Elli doesn't have a wicked stepmother, she has a wicked aunt. I could think of a good name for her, but I don't want to insult my dog's mother. In spite of the way Elli is treated, she is very sweet.
Seren, the alpha of the Vulter has noticed Elli while she is in her garden. He is attracted to her but keeps away because he doesn't want to frighten her. She senses that someone is watching her but is not afraid. Finally, she calls out to him and they meet face to face. Elli is not afraid and they speak for a while. She tells him she hopes he will come again.
Seren is trying to work out a trade agreement with the humans but Elli's aunt, the mayor, is asking for too much. Seren knows the trade agreement will help both Human and Vulter, so he keeps trying. While working with the aunt he notices how she treats her niece and is angered by it. He wants to help but doesn't want to cause trouble. Finally she goes too far and Seren rescues her and takes her away. He finds out what the aunt is doing and finds a way to have charges brought against her. It was a good ending to the story, but not the series. There is one more Vulter to find his happy ever after.
Another all time classic. No matter how many times its told or variation it comes in, it will always be my favorite fairy tale of all time.
This retelling of Cinderella is captivating and alluring. We heard about our main characters in previous books but I wasn't anticipating how much I would love Seren. He truly is an amazing alpha.
Of course we all know the story of the cruelty that Cinderella had to endure but Honey's twist on this classic brought it to a whole new level.
Seren thought he was past his prime until he became enthralled by a shy human female. Their worlds collide in the most beautiful way. Their strength together make them a powerful unstoppable formidable force. 💜🔥
Honey, you did it again. This was such an amazing read. I can't wait to add the paperback to my collection.💕💕.
TW - verbal abuse/manipulation by a relative. (Not the love interest). Not intense, but it does play a part much as it did in the original fairy tale.
This is a good Cinderella retelling and is part of a larger series. I love how the stories are interwoven, and characters from past and future books all play a part in each other's story. Can be read as a standalone. The FMC is the gentle, kind version of Cinderella. The MMC is the much older Alpha of local natives (Wolf shifters). The aunt is the perfect villain, and is quite the classic, cruel manipulative villain. There's even a "fairy godmother". I'm hoping she gets a later in life love story. This story is a sweet, slow burn. Several steamy scenes to hold you, but the full spice doesn't really come until almost 3/4 in. It doesn't need to.
I look forward to the rest of the series.
In this riff on Cinderella meets A Little Princess, human Elli lives under the bitterly cold thumb of her aunt who treats her as though she’s a servant and a burden. Only nightly visits from a mysterious being who watches her from the shadows as she putters in her greenhouse bring Elli ease and comfort. After one particularly difficult day, Elli works up the courage to demand her silent companion reveal himself.
Captivated by Elli despite his unsuitability as a mate for her, Vultor alpha Seren nevertheless can’t stay away from the shunned beauty. When treachery is revealed against her, Seren will do everything in his power to see justice served - and his true mate triumphant.
Another winner from the brilliant Honey Phillips. I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy of this book from the author and Booksprout, and I’m happy to share my honest review.
Agatha can be my godmother anytime she wants 🥰!!!
“Elli was everything he couldn't afford to want. Too young. Too gentle. Too human.”
Step back into happy childhood memories with this retelling of Cinderella. But luckily for us, there is also steam and heart melting romance. Elli, the unwanted niece (except for chores) of the Mayor of Cresca, is reaching her breaking point when she strikes up a friendship with Seren, the local Vultor pack leader. As their relationship deepens, I love how being accepted for who she is by Seren boosts her confidence in herself. He is the perfect alpha, strong, protective, and always putting the pack’s interest front and center. However, he also deserved his chance at happiness and I was ecstatic when he finally reached out and grabbed it. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this story.
I wanted to savor this book and read a bit everyday while on my break at work and once I get home. Seren is an thoughtful and responsible alpha. He has a good heart, he is drawn to Elli and the light she brings to her garden.
Elli is treated very badly by her aunt and unkindly by a great majority in her village. After Seren and Elli get to know each other speaking while she is taking such diligent care of her garden tenderness blooms between them.
Seren is pulled between the responsibilities to his people and he feels he does not have much to offer Elli.
Elli is wholeheartedly drawn to him and wants to be with him although her aunts harsh insecurities play into her feelings.
Together they will find a path that best suits them both.
Story is very tender and fulfilling.
This is a fun, spicy sci-fi Cinderella retelling! All the Alien Wolf Tales books are interconnected standalones, so you can read them in any order. They also continue the Seven Brides for Seven Alien Brothers series, since they take place on the same planet.
Human FMC Ella is a submissive gardener who’s been bending to her aunt, the mayor’s, every demand. Alien MMC Seren is the alpha of a shifter pack trying to strike trade deals with the humans, but he finds himself completely smitten with sweet Ella. In true Cinderella fashion, everything comes to a head at the big mating ceremony of the beloved couple from book 3.
It’s a cute, steamy, and entertaining read. Book 4, Cursed Alien, which is scheduled to release May 2025, gives us major Beauty and the Beast vibes, with some foreshadowing planted in this installment.
I appreciated that Seren and Elli actually got to know each other for a few weeks before their relationship shifted. Their conversations in the garden while Seren hid in the forest were cute. He slowly built up her confidence and helped her find herself.
I fully expected her aunt to lock her in her room so Seren would have to come rescue her instead of kicking her out of the house and letting her be with Seren. From the bonding ceremony to the end of the book seemed too easy for a Cinderella retelling. It only took 1 day for them to be reunited. He didn’t have to search for her very hard, he knew who she was and where she lived and stuff. I think I would have liked it more if the ceremony had happened at the beginning of the book and then he found her garden, realized it was her, and hid so she wouldn’t know it was him as they developed a relationship.
Honey Phillips’s Alien Charming continues the fairy tale retelling a of the Alien Wolf Tales. For years Elli’s been trapped by her evil aunt who has brow beat her since her mother died. Elli enjoys gardening and creating hybrids to use for medical purposes. The garden is where she becomes aware of being watched. Turns out Voltar clan leader Seren is enamored of her and would love to free her from servitude. At a wedding between her friend and another Voltar, Agatha, her friend’s relative, acts as fairy godmother and dresses her to go to the function where she and Seren get very cozy! Aunt Margaret catches her, though, and kicks her out, setting in motion her own downfall! Wonderful series!.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot - 3/5
Characters - 3/5
Spice - 🌶️
This is an adorable adaptation of the classic Cinderella story, with just the right amount of spice—think alphas, aliens, and interspecies mating bonds.
Our FMC, Ella, is a total sweetheart who’s mistreated by her Aunt (ring any fairy-tale bells?), the power-hungry leader of the human village. Said Aunt plans to exploit a trade deal with the visiting alien alpha, Seren, purely for her own gain.
Naturally, our big alien alpha spots sweet, innocent Ella and immediately decides she’s his mate—despite a noticeable age gap (and, you know, the minor issue of being different species).
We get all the classic beats: a romantic dancing scene, a fairy godmother-esque figure (in the form of Little Red Riding Hood’s grandma, no less), and of course, the iconic lost slipper moment that leads to a happily ever after.
If you’re in the mood for a charming, low-angst read with alien vibes and fairy-tale nostalgia, this one’s definitely worth picking up.
3.5 ⭐️ This was a cute pallet cleanser! I do love a good fairytale retelling, so I’m excited to dive into this series. This was a little on the nose for Cinderella, but still likable characters and a good quick plot. Wanted a bit more spice, and some of the writing was repetitive (the first third was Seren saying he can’t have Elli and Elli being told she worthless, on repeat for 80 pages). But aside from that getting a bit old, I like the progression of their romance, Elli was sweet and kind, if a bit *too* soft spoken (which I rarely say as I love a quiet contemplative FMC), and Seren was a good balance of sweet and growly. I’ll definitely read the other books (I started with this one, not sure why, I think I saw an ad for it).
Almost Cinderella but not quite
There is a lovely slipper that the human female loses on her run from a grand celebration held by the Vultor aliens. There are hints of a beauty and the beast story happening to a side character. There is no wolf in this book, in fact it never once refers to the aliens shifted creature in terms of what it is, only that he has claws and his face changes shape. They call the shifted form a beast. If it weren't for the cover and the parentheses in the title I would not have known the shifter type at all.
Lovely read of a girl who has been degraded by those who should love and support her. A leader who hides in the shadows. An ungrateful greedy woman who thinks she fools them all.
"I watched you create order from chaos, beauty from nothing. It was . . . .peaceful. "
Tropes:
Fairytale retelling, Cinderella, paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi, alien shifter, age-gap, colonization planet, knotting, claiming bite, mates, HEA romance.
Elli is under the watchful eye of her aunt Margaret.
Seren is the Vultor alpha.
This book was a fun, page turning read I didn't want to put down. I love Seren's character. How he sees Elli's beautiful qualities inside and out.
Seren is the alpha and is one of the male that has kept his head the longest. It’s something no one can understand. He has found a friend in one of the humans as he watches the borders. Elli is unhappy but she has her garden. That is the only place she has as her escape. Her aunt Margaret is in charge and she is basically her servant. As Seren and Elli’s friendship grows they find a strong connection that will not be ignored.
As the trade agreements get close to finished things come to light regarding Aunt Margaret and with Agatha’s help these two get their chance to meet outside their talks in the back garden.
In this loose retelling of Cinderella, we find gentle Elli being watched over by Seren. As alpha he takes his duties and responsibilities to his pack so seriously that he tries to tell his beast that Elli is not their mate. Elli lives under her aunt’s cruel household whose reach extends to the village. After being told she is simple, most of the villagers treat her terribly too. Like Seren, I did not want the trade alliance to continue either after their collective cruel behaviour. Elli is so forgiving I was worried that her aunt would not get her comeuppance. Agatha and Lena are the wise elders we all want in our lives. Excited for Malrik and Bella’s story next.
Elli has been treated harshly and without any comfort by her awful aunt. She feels alone in a crowd, has learned not to react to how she is treated by the town folk, and does as her aunt commands. Her one joy is her garden. And now she feels comfort that someone watches from the woods.
Serenity is the leader of the Vultor and knows he will never have a mate. Yet, as he gets close to the human town, an enticing smell draws him to Elli. Mate?
Our author delivers again in this beautiful world she has created. Plot twists to mess with you, danger, sweetness and a cruel aunt all drive this tale to an amazing HEA.
