I was worried that I would be missing huge plot lines beginning with book #3 the Rise of Mallory but I was wrong. Everville 3: The Rise of Mallory reads like a separate novel with small references to the past but nothing that prevents the reader from fully grasping the storyline.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It is action packed with well developed characters who were easy to love or hate equally. Each character is clearly defined. I was quickly absorbed in the plot rooting for Owen, Zee and Anika while quietly hissing at Mallory. There are many layers to this book and I have just purchased Books 1 and 2 so that I can fully appreciate the story and to better get to know these deep and wonderful characters. The scenery is is explained in wonderful detail and I loved the duo worlds.

It ended much to soon for this first time reader but happily I can now go back to the beginning and get my fill while I anxiously await the next instalment.

This book is ideal for all fantasy lovers and will not disappoint. Bravo Roy Huff.

I was provided with a draft in order to perform an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Roy Huff does it again, in a well developed action packed adventure that appeals to the same part of me that loves thrill rides, Halloween, and classic horror movies.
I always like to read a series in order, but this has enough background that it could certainly be read alone.
Descriptions are vivid and the plot well executed in The rise of Mallory.
With alternate realities and monsters, I must confess that they are always the biggest attraction for me.
The cover for this book is amazing, and the story does not disappoint, highlighting the values of friendship, trust and honour.
The characters develop further, growing up nicely in the this book. The open ending was a good decision, as I can already see how the series could go even further.

This is certainly the best book in the series so far. It is action-packed, we get to know a little more about the other realms and new race, the Alarians, which I really enjoyed, they are very unique. The final battle was very thrilling!
The character development in this book is also nicely done, Owen Sage and his friends feel like real persons with their own personalities and problems.
Once again the ending came too soon, so I can't wait to find out what's next for Owen, Zee, Anika and others!

Thanks again to Roy Huff for sending me a draft!

In The Rise of Mallory, the newest book in the Everville series, the epic journey continues with another battle to save Everville and Earth. Truths are revealed about Owen and his friends while more interesting creatures are introduced and the lines between good and evil are blurred. The battle escalates into a breathless climax leaving just enough for readers to anticipate more for future books in the series.

What I enjoyed is Huff's ability to seamlessly tie in the earthly world and then throw the reader into the fantasy world where mystical and magical creatures live. When I was reading the Everville series, it reminded me vaguely of A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle with young adventurers on a crusade to an unknown magical place.

Young readers, or anyone who likes fantasy adventures, will be entertained with this exciting series. Many questions from the previous books will be answered and fans of the Everville series will be pleased with the third installment.

The cover looks so cool and I like this one the best out of all 3. While Owen is looking for the third pillar of truth, Mallory is plotting to rule the world and its surround planes. Talk about ambitious!

So as the race against time is on, Owen must find the third pillar if he were to be successful in saving Everville, and the world from the evil clutches of Mallory.

The ending is pretty good. I wonder if Everville will come back again soon

I got this book for a beta purpose as I got the former parts too. The Rise of Mallory was surely the strongest of the three books. Huff finally depicts his characters and the worlds with detail making them vivid thus bringing them to life. The human characters act more like adults, which is great, since they are that basically already. Overall we get to know the characters better, which is always great. The plot works out nicely too and the open ending was a good choice. I'd say the book is three stars though way more steadier than the other parts. I'm happy to see that Huff has developed as a writer in such a short time, so points for that!

About the problems then. The war takes a bit too much of the book and there are problems with the time line. After some time the war doesn't really offer us anything new and becomes mundane. The depictions of the sides leans towards the other side on the other side's cost. Moving back and forth in time is always a challenge too, since one must remember where the character stands in order to make the time work towards the right direction. Along these, we have the human characters. Huff forgets them (except Owen of course) after he gets the war mode going, and that sadly so makes the book lacking. What went on in the human world when all these things happened in Everville?

Even with its "flaws" the book is entertaining and good continuation to the series. So, congratulations Roy!

Everville 3: The Rise of Mallory by Roy Huff is the third book in the Everville series. It picks up right where book 2 left off with Owen and his friends on Earth preparing for Christmas. The cast in Everville is trying to return to their normal lives as they recover from adventures of the last book as well.

Mallory is now raising a surprisingly powerful dragon that he intends to use for the forces of Them in their fight against The Keepers. Owen and his Everville allies know that they must prepare for a coming attack even when they are unsure of how or when it will come. Everyone must do what they can to prepare for the upcoming fight.

And it isn’t only the good who are preparing, Mallory and his minions understand that their attack would come most effectively from a new, unexpected direction. If The Keepers are almost the most powerful force in the universe, where can Mallory find someone he hopes is even stronger?

Such a gathering of strength might be avoided, but this can only be done with a great personal sacrifice. Just how much will Owen be willing to endure so that he might have a chance to save everything? For how very long? He might find that his original goal becomes abstract when it’s pitted against new, unforeseen happiness.

I was fortunate to receive a draft copy of the book which enabled me to be one of the first to read the book. The third book in the Everville Series, a quick pace and well written story that takes the reader deeper into the world of Everville and Owen Sage.
The Rise of Mallory was filled with adventure and a dramatic story line to make this an entertaining read. The character Owen learned more about his own parents involvement and the reason why he was chosen.
A story about patience, friendship, trust and honor as Owen learns first hand about a new race, restoring Everville and the other races as needed.
A book I can recommend to all young adult sci-fi lovers.

The saga continues. In this third book in the Everville Series, Owen Sage, the undefeated hero, has to face the evil villain, Mallory, who shows up from the previous book. This time, Mallory is using a powerful dragon to aid the forces of Them and fight the Keepers. It's Owen's job (along with a little help from his friends) to protect the world of Everville from the madness of power-hungry Mallory.

Once again, author Roy Huff has seamlessly connected the earthly world with the fantasy world of Everville. There are lots of imaginative magical creatures, fast-paced action, and memorable characters to make this an appealing read for sci-fi/fantasy lovers

Since the last battle in Everville, Mallory, a Fron turned evil, plots to hoard all the power from the element for himself by harnessing the goodwill of the newly hatched dragon, Rathlar, and initiating an inter-universe war between the Alarians and the inhabitants Everville. Owen faces his toughest task yet and struggles to complete it even whilst his friends are being decimated by the Alarians.

I think The Rise of Mallory was better written than the first two (maybe because of experience?). A few typos noted - I think he'll probably fix this? Anyway, this could be an early copy since I borrowed it on Kindle Prime (free trial! ha!).

The story is more complex and Huff manages to weave most of the seemingly loose ends from The First Pillar and The City of Worms. However, in usual form, Huff messes up the narrative through excessive info dumps, taking you back and forth over the material a few times. I don't know why he can't do a slow reveal of some of these "secrets" through conversations or over several chapters rather than telling you "this and that" happened in one chapter and then a chapter later someone confirms "yes, it really happened".

There's some time jumps back and forth due to the nature of Owen's task too - and while it was interesting (life as an Alarian!) I felt that it was a little under-developed. I mean, he could have done SO MUCH MORE with it.

At any rate, I think this rates about a 2.5 stars. Hopefully the next one gets better.

***I received the eBook free as a review copy from the author in exchange for an honest review***

The Rise of Mallory is easily the best book in the series so far, and in my eyes a fitting end to all the character’s story. I understand that there is still 1 (at least) book(s) to be written and published but I love the way that this book was concluded and while it’s unusual for me to stop a series half way through to me it has been concluded in the most satisfying way. Even with minor plotlines still left open.

It wasn’t just the ending that made this the best book, but I finally felt true connections to the characters which was something I’d not realised how much I’d missed. This then helped the pace as well as increasing my interest. There was a also lot less time spent on scheming and more on the results of the plans. Of course there was still a lot, especially with Mallory who played a much bigger part than before.

With him comes disaster for Owen as he faces yet another life-changing decision. To choose between his original goal for which he sacrificed so much, and remembering the beautiful shreds of happiness he found in such a low time; his decision won’t be easy.

They never have been, in this captivating series.

I had a hard time connecting with this title in the Everville series. For one thing, while some reviewers have said that this could be a stand-alone work, I have to disagree. It's been a while since I read the previous books, and I was seriously lost for a good portion of this installment. There were a lot of characters I had difficulty placing, and there are a lot of references to previous plot points that you really are going to need to have fresh in your memory. That made the initial chapters a bit frustrating.

There isn't much character development and the majority of characters felt flat to me. Which is really problematic since there aren't many new characters. Add really stilted dialogue, and the problems start to compound.

Finally, there is a lot of exposition and repetition - particularly in regard to the battle and the events that lead up to it. Please don't spend an entire chapter on a world-building history lesson just to have a character repeat that entire history three chapters later.

I have to admit I skimmed a lot of the last third of this book. I wish I could recommend this series, but it still needs a lot of work.

Everville 3: The Rise of Mallory by Roy Huff is an excellent YA fantasy that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is fast paced, action packed adventure that is hard to put down once you start reading.

The author is a great storyteller, able to bring the story to life. It is easy to put yourself into the tale and follow along as an unseen character. The story is realistic and full of exciting twist and turns in the plot, yet easy to follow along.

This is book 3 of Roy Huff Everville series and the author continues to build and strengthen the characters and especially the hero. I found it very easy to identify with them and found myself cheering them on.

I really like The Rise of Mallory by Roy Huff and I highly recommend this book to all readers.

Now that I've completed this book, I have looked at some of the other reviews, because I like to compare my thoughts with others. It's hard to know what to add that is different, but I'll do that and come back with a more detailed review. In summary - a great fantasy that introduced me to the world Roy Huff has created - actually two worlds. Full review to come.

With references back to characters and events of the previous books, Everville the Rise of Mallory is a fitting conclusion to the storyline begun in The First Pillar. The stories are best read in sequence though, and the story continues with the Fall of Brackenbone and, hopefully, more to come.

Complex world (and multiverse) building, with fascinating alien species, epic battles, great good and great evil characterize these novels, together with wise understanding of human nature. Arrogance is a weakness and patience a truly surprising strength, especially when applied to time-travel. Meanwhile rules set up behind the scenes keep everything in order, even when the evil Mallory begins his own re-creation so very coolly described.

The lessons learned in this tale are wise. The story’s exciting. And the resolution, though a little hurried, is genuinely satisfying. There’s lots of potential for more stories and “myths” in this series, and I would certainly read them.

Disclosure: I bought it on a deal and I enjoyed it.

Definitely my favorite book of the series.
I just couldn't put this book down.
There is a lot happening in Everville and on Earth and Owen is going to take you through a long journey to understand the Third Pillar of Truth.
All the little things bugging me in the previous books of the series have disappeared, making this book my absolute favorite.
I love how we don't dig into the characters all that much, but are instead allowed to follow them as they try to understand what is happing. I also like how Owen is growing more confident and more able to do things on his own instead of relying too much on people back on Earth.
The fact that there is a lot going on in so many different places made this book a delight of complexity, but was at the same time easy to read which is a proof of the author's hard work as that sort of narrative is very difficult to efficiently put off.
The test the Third Pillar gave to Owen was also a very good one. I know I complained about the previous one but this one was really incredible and unexpected. And the reward for it was also on that order of magnitude which made me very happy.

Seriously, I can't wait to read book four.

As Owen continues his next search in keeping the peace and safety of lands through the realm, Mallory is training a new threat to take over the power he needs to control the element and the universe ultimately. Owen is tasked with a new challenge which tests his integrity and willingness to learn about a species who originally started the problems faced in the city of worms not knowing how much damage they caused in the first place of trying to save their Race. Owen learns and grows while also gaining patience and understanding. When the time comes to make the stand he is instrumental in bringing about the change required and the task set before him. In the end it pays off well including those who were returned from when they had disappeared or even died.

As always Roy Huff has done an excellent job with this third story in his series. In this third book we find Owen Sage, the hero trying to protect both his world and teh world of Everville from Mallory. If he fails it could mean the destruction of people, animals and other creatures in both worlds. He is not alone in this effort. He has the help of Zee and Anika. Like his other books this book is fast paced filled with twists and turns. His world building as always is great. He seems to be able to create our world and the world of Everville so they flow together. If you haven't read this series yet I would suggest you begin it. His next book will be out very soon.

Awesome & original

If you like a writing style that is clear and concise and straight to the point then this series is for you. Longer than a short story but not as long as a ‘normal’ novel this story has no time to waste and get straight into the action.

I really enjoyed the story plot line between the three novels of the series. It definitely takes me to another world.

I love to see authors improving as they write more books. This is definitely the case here. I enjoyed the first & second instalment of this series and was pleased to see that this continuation was better written.

I had started this book a while back then put it done. Not because I didn't like it I just didn't have the time to get into like I wanted. But now that I've finished the book I'm glad I did. It followed up right where book two left off and gave some great clarity bout some things I questioned in books 1&2.

I'm waiting on the next book to come out so if anyone knows if there is one PLEASE let me know!! Thanks

A scintillating read!

Epic fantasy is not this reviewer’s preferred genre. But that’s where the negatives end! This is a scintillating read. Fast-paced, thrilling, entertaining. It held me to the end.

It’s a tale with many levels – and very well written. Easy to see why it’s the Readers' Favorite 2014 Young Adult Fantasy Silver Medal Winner!

Great cover, too. They say, never judge a book by its cover…. Well, this one breaks the rule.

Continuing on the journey of Owen in Everville, he is met with a surprise when he realizes that someone close to him appears to him to reveal to him the dangers that arose from the results of the City of Worms. Owen is faced with Mallory, a Fron turned evil who has a thirst for collecting power from the element. Owen is now sent off to look for the Third Pillar by the Keeper in hopes of finding a way to stop the war which is claiming innocent lives as the war continues.

Definitely one of most complete of the Everville series so far, Owen has a better character development. There is more action and mystery surrounding what is going on. I'm still getting used to the writing style however, it does illustrate what is going on with all the characters. The plot thickens and its becoming a more fluent and intriguing read than the previous times.

Whats great is that its not as confusing as the first, and not dragged out as the second. This one maintains a fast pace and keeps multiple parts going on simultaneously without being too hard to follow. There was a few times, I had to go back to gather the situation but it was a very rare occasion.

A fantastic follow-up to the previous book and the best installment in the Everville series so far!

Everville: The Rise of Mallory by Roy Huff is the third book in the Everville fantasy series written for young adults. There is a lot of backfill, but I recommend reading the books in order to fully understand the epic struggle.

In this book, Owen Sage visits the third Pillar of Truth to learn how to combat Mallory and his dragon, Rathlar. Meanwhile, the other worlds are preparing for a war that could end of the multiverse, their world as the know it.

As an adult, I did not find this book as engaging as the first two books: the characters were flat and not as well-developed, the dialog did not flow as well, the plot seemed too convenient, and there were quite a few typos and grammar errors.

On the other hand, Mr. Huff's description of the shape-shifting Alarians is very imaginative as is Owen Sage's method of saving the world, though his conversation with Rathlar was not very convincing,

There are still mysteries in Everville and 4 Pillars of Truth for Owen Sage to visit. I hope Mr. Huff can take his time with the next installment and delivery a story that is a satisfying as the first two books in this series.

This was the slowest in the series so far. I still like Roy's style, but there was something on it that made me loose the interest at some point, that, and that I haven't read in digital for a long time, which made the reading more complicated this time.
However, the plot is interesting and we get to meet a new side of the already known characters. It's a fast paced book, also, which could make you think about it as a fast reading. It is, at some point, but things don't work and make you pause it before reaching the end.

Dragons. War against an ancient, all-powerful race. Transcending time and space. Giants. Portals. Owen, the hero of the story, faces them all in THE RISE OF MALLORY, the third book of the series. You'll also learn more about Owen's history, but to tell you would be a major spoiler. Simply said, there's a lot to like in this tale. Read it!
