I picked up this book at a used book store because recent comparisons between the populism of Andrew Jackson and Donald Trump made me curious. It certainly seems relevant. Notable quotes: "Older and wiser heads wondered if these men had any conception of the dangers that threatened the nation n account of their 'revolution.' At stake was not some minor post to be fobbed off on a popular entertainer, but the office of the President of the United States, an office occupied for nearly forty years by the most distinguished men the country could produce. Should the 'revolution' succeed, it would mean for the future that any amiable incompetent clever enough to attract popular support might presume to occupy the chair of Washington, Jefferson, and Madison." Sigh.
I just skimmed this book for research. Didn't really have any particular feelings about it, except that it didn't have exactly what I needed for my paper, so that sucks.
