For almost 15 years, this widely heralded, award-winning anthology series has been propelling readers into realms beyond time and space, parallel worlds and alternate realities and place at the infinite edges of the imagination. The impetus for these startling voyages has come from the best new writers of speculative fiction--the winners of the internationally acclaimed Writers of the Future Contest.
L. Ron Hubbard is universally acclaimed as the single most influential author and humanitarian of this modern age. His definitive works on the mind and spirit—comprising over 350 million copies in circulation and more than 40 international bestsellers—have resulted in a legacy benefiting millions and a movement spanning all cultures.
I stumbled across this series when a friend gave me volume 38. I was like hey I'm 38. Is this series as old as I am? Yes it is. It came out the same year I was born. So I immediately started trying to find the older ones to start at the beginning.
With all 'collected' short story volumes, it is the editor that 'ensures' this is the best gathered. Very is rarely that statement tends to be correct. Yes, sometimes true, but not the case here.
My star rating indicates some tales are good, while I found it not for everyone, including myself.
You may enjoy.
OOP (Out of Print). Can be found on eBay?
Apparently the first volume in a massive series: L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future.
Shorts by (then) new writers. Some good, a few excellent. Beautiful original illustrations. Essays by stalwarts like Roger Zelazny, Theodore Sturgeon and Robert Silverberg.
old science fiction is pretty much my favourite thing. this book has a whole bunch of short stories, and some essays on the genre, the contest, and the nature of scifi itself.
