Published since 2009, USA Today Bestselling author Naima Simone loves writing sizzling romances with heart, a touch of humor and snark. Her books have been featured in The Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly, and described as balancing “crackling, electric love scenes with exquisitely rendered characters caught in emotional turmoil.”
She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.
When I finished reading the 3rd book, I had a suspition that Chay was gay, but I'm happy to having found out here that he's definitely NOT! :)
I'm so happy that this series got such a lovely story and finished in such a very, very nice way!
In the 2nd and 3rd book the weak point were the heroines, but I'm so happy that it is not a case here!
We have Aslyn who is absoluetly not a weak, damisel in distress kind of heroine! She's a wise-crack, she's intelligent and she doesn't do stupid things! What a breath of fresh air! :)
Chay... poor, poor guy... I completly undestood his situation. He was a victim, but in such a male way. I loved him! The fact that he was hot is not to be taken undefoot! *wink, wink*
A wonderful, interesting and a little bit scary romantic suspense! And a great ending to the series!
Chayot Gray is a man haunted by the the ghosts of horrific happenings in his past that have cost not only him, but those nearest and dearest to him freedom, love, careers, and money. While those around him have managed to not only reclaim all that they lost; Chayot has remained closeted and alone. Unable to escape the chains of guilt and pain that bind him to a past he is desperate to escape.
Aslyn Jericho is not only haunted, but hunted and the specters dogging her every step are proving much more real...and deadly! Just six months after a deranged stalker killed her assistant and stabbed her; famed concert pianist, Aslyn, has traded the bright lights and big city life of L.A. for the seemingly idyllic normalcy of a Boston suburb. Little does she know that her world is about to be disrupted at the hands of a madman yet again, or that help and salvation live just next door.
Chayot, is a high octane romantic thriller that draws readers in with strong and intelligent characters, snarky wit, volcanic passion, and a complex plot. Title character Chayot Gray, is the perfect blend of "tarnished knight" and alpha male; that makes readers want to swoon for him one moment and comfort him the next. Though the threat to leading lady, Aslyn, is a physical nemesis, the psychological pain suffered by Chay presents an ever present danger that serves to anchor the reader on a far more emotional level. His "walking wounded" status, coupled with the fact that he is both honor bound and professionally obligated to protect his "endangered damsel" make him a hero to love.
The beleaguered Miss Jericho shows herself to be so slouch in the heroine department. She is a woman who has everything to loose, and is still willing to trust her heart, body, and soul in the hands of another. She is also just as much of an alpha personality as Chayot, and is his twin flame in heart, head, and bed.
Speaking of bed. The sex scenes in this read are hot, hot, HOT! Chayot is a god among men, and this is where his inner alpha is really allowed to run free. This is also where we see Aslyn truly work her feminine magic, breaking down the walls that Chay has so carefully constructed around himself.
Not to be out shown by other facets of this story; the fast paced, ever evolving, thriller based plot, keeps readers on the edge of their proverbial seats the whole way through. One is never quite sure where the next threat is coming from, or who will be targeted. This is definitely a pray for the best, but expect the OMG! WTF? type of tale.
*Reviewer's Note* This is book 4 in its series. It may be read as part of its intended series or as a stand alone.
I really enjoyed this book. Something about it gripped me from it started until it finished. I think it was Miss Simone’s writing voice…it was edgy, gritty, but so very sensual and humorous.
Our hero Chayot and heroine Aslyn were both tortured soul. Man did I love that. Most books only tug at you with one soul being shredded, but here we got two characters that were tormented, vividly drawn and fleshed out. Whenever I dipped in either head I was captivated by their pain, their vulnerabilities, hope and enduring strength.
I loved both Chayot and Aslyn equally. Whenever Chayot came on page, though I was tenser, my heart jerking. But that may only be for me because I am intimate with the kind of abuse he suffered through. I understood the guilt, the pain and suffering, but I was not overwhelmed by it. It was perfectly balanced without any triggers and I admired how this author executed that. He was so alpha, and sexy, yet so honorable and able to put his partner’s needs before his. I liked that.
I really enjoyed Aslyn’s character. I could feel her torture, but man did I love the quiet strength she displayed. She had been through hell, had one sicko torment her, and another nipping at her heels, destroying everything she held dear and even crippling the passion and solace she found in her music. But she did not break. Now don’t get me wrong…not once I thought she was a wonder woman. LOL. I saw the pain…heck I felt her pain, the weakness and fear that made her want to howl and curl up on the floor. But that was where I saw the enduring strength as well…looking at the atrocity she faced and saying f*** you…I am not crumbling. I also really loved how she stripped away Chayot’s walls and revealed the man beneath the cold gruff exterior. Scrumptious. The plot itself was engaging and some may identify the villain from his first introduction, pretending to be innocuous. But that so did not matter…because Miss Simone tells her tale in a gripping and enticing manner that keeps you turning the page…begging for more…though you may not be sure what you are begging for…. Is it for more terrorizing of our heroes or hot sexy scenes and witty laugh out loud banters? And that is why I love this book so much. No matter where it went…I savored every chapter, every page…every word…and when it ended I ran and bought the other books in the series. Definitely recommended. Warning…sex scenes are panty dropping and hot while being sensual and oh so sweet.
I absolutely love Naima Simone's books! But Chay's story is my favorite in the Secret & Sins series, because the hero isn't just damaged, he's broken when the story begins. Although the book totally stands alone, Chay's pain, secrets and sins have been revealed throughout the series and made me always wonder how Ms. Simone could possible write his HEA. Chay'slife has been filled with trauma and guilt, and his support system of family and friends are at the center of all that pain ... Until he meets Aslyn, the only woman who can crack the shell he's created around his heart.
The love story between these two is heart warming, passionate (actually its beyond HOT) and so very real. Simone's writing is right up there with Suzanne Brockman's seal teams, although she doesn't have as much action that Brockman has going on at multiple scenes, don't discount Simone's ability to draw you in and make you wonder who among the team could be looking at the next HEA ... Or could another team of hot sexy heroes be in the works? If so, I'll be right there to gobble them up.
Absolutely loved this book! I started backwards in the series, this is the first book I read. I will happily be rectifying that! Aslyn is a concert pianist who was stalked and almost killed by a madman. After recovering, she leaves her hometown to hide out in seclusion for awhile. Chayot is her neighbor who is also doing his share of laying low. His past has put him in the spotlight and he is just trying to move on with his life. He knows all the hurt and turmoil his secret has caused his friends and family. He just wants to cope alone and get his life back together. He see's a peeping tom at Aslyn's window and jumps into action. No one realizes that one seemingly harmless event was going to lead to something much more sinister. Chay must use everything at his disposal, with the help of his friends and colleagues, to keep Aslyn safe. The question is, will his heart be safe? Amazing read! I recommend this to everyone who loves a good suspense story with a shocking twist and of course some smoking hot sex scenes!
This is the second of Naima Simone's books that I have read, and I loved this one just as much as I did Raphael. The book is the fourth in the series about four friends: Gabriel, Malachim, Raphael and Chay, but can be read as a stand-alone. There are a few points where you'll be wishing you read the earlier stories to fully grasp what the four friends have gone through, but you'll have enough info to get by and will just want to read the other books that much more! Naima has a wonderful voice, weaving an intriguing web of suspense while making you fall in love with the tortured hero and heroine as they learn to love each other, all while being stalked by a madman. The are funny moments and terrifying moments, as well as some wonderfully hot-and-heavy moments! Don't let the fact that it's the fourth in the series stop you from diving in - or go back and start from the beginning with Gabriel's story like I intend to do now!
Secret and Sins draws you in to Chay and Aslyn's personal hells. Unable to play or compose, the music sensation that was Aslyn is in Boston trying to recover from an attack that almost killed her when a second round of stalking brings Chay into Aslyn's life. Wounded in their souls but refusing to give in to deep-seated hurt, both are strong characters, struggling to find a place in which to live their lives on their terms.
It was compelling-and very hot-reading. My only disappointment was working out early on who the stalker was but it took little from the fast-paced action and intense emotional ride created by the author. Recommended read.
This is the first time in reading this author with the title being the hook that snagged me to it. The exciting thing it revealed to me was once I turned the pages I was going to be in for some hot reading with spice. The characters Aslyn and Chayot have a lot of body to them. It opens up with Aslyn and what happens to put her as the next door neighbor to Chayot. I was right fast pace right away with me already sitting at the edge of my seat. But the danger is not over it would seem for Aslyn because Chayot saves her from more danger. Good thing he has his a security company he co-owns that will fit the bill when she goes looking for protection. Little does she know, him too that they both will grow closer together in more ways than one once he is on the job plus she already loves what she sees in him. The pace does not slow down it just keeps on going with one event after another which makes this a little different than most in the danger intrigue department. This crazy is not your average which was what made it different but at the same time you are wanting to see if Chayot will be the cure for what ails her. She will certainly be his salvation not truly understanding at first how much he needs her too. They will be like two pieces of a puzzle that when they come together will make a perfect fit. The intensity of the danger in this novel is toe bender finger gripper that when you do find out who is the one after her this time you will end up shaking your head. The secrets that will be revealed are met with love and understanding that makes her one special kind of woman indeed. With that and what cooks between these two produces for one satisfying read when you finally get to the finish. Received a arc for a honest review.
A man must conquer his inner-demons in order to save a woman from a madman determined to destroy her in this riveting romantic suspense. When a obsessed stalker targets concert pianist, Aslyn Jericho, she turns to her neighbor and security specialist, Chayot Gray whose shame and guilt threaten to consume him.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps reader’s shivering in suspense with intrigue and romance. The author describes the story with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated suspense and drama draw the reader deeper into the story. The strong compelling characters are easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.
Chemistry radiates lots of heat from every page between Aslyn and Chayot and the sex scenes burn with a vibrant fiery intensity that scorches the reader. The relationship is full emotional turmoil and it will take these two wounded souls to save each other from the darkness. Aslyn and Chayot both capture the heart as they try to overcome their traumatic pasts and survive the danger that stalks them now. And the reader can’t help but get emotionally caught up in the story and cheer for Aslyn as fights to get over her fear and return to playing the piano and of course Chayot and his friends have captivated readers from the beginning of the series and it warms the reader’s heart that Chayot finally gets his chance at happily ever after.
Spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as the danger escalates keeping the reader on the edge and the author surprises the reader with some twists and turns. The story is exciting, entertaining and filled with passion (I loved the piano scene…sizzling) and I had to keep turning the pages until I was finished.
SECRETS AND SINS: CHAYOT is a compelling novel about two emotionally damaged people who find each other as they deal with mystery and danger. The book is an emotional powerhouse with its themes of emotional and physical abuse, stalking, obsession and murder. Naima Simone treats the issues well and with respect. She’s done her homework and that only adds to the roller coaster ride of the story’s mystery. The plot is plausible and includes a few surprises that I wasn’t expecting.
The characters are very well-drawn here, with difficult lives and horrendous pasts that they must conquer to find happiness. The supporting characters are Chayot’s best friends from childhood, all of whom shared a terrible secret with him for years. Their backstory adds to Chayot’s (pronounced Shay-oht) and Aslyn’s, making it even more complex and dark. I was riveted from the beginning with the set-up in the first chapter. I could actually “see” many of the events taking place which is a huge plus when I read a story of such caliber.
I could only find one thing I didn’t care for and that was the cover. While it’s stunning visually, I don’t see the model as being Chayot. It’s a trivial thing, I know, but that’s me. The book is part of the Secrets and Sins series that includes the stories of Chayot’s friends, each one with their own book.
Once upon a time there were four friends: Gabriel, Malachim, Raphael and Chayot. When something bad happened to one they all got together to make it better and they kept the secret for years. Now twenty years later the secret is out and they have paid for keeping it. Gabriel, Malachim, and Raphael have found love and happiness. Chayot is happy for them but feels as if he is responsible for their past problems and doesn’t feel like he will ever be deserving of the happiness and love they have found. But he didn’t count on Aslyn Jericho. The pianist strikes every note in perfect tone to break through the ice that surrounds his heart. Now all he has to do is keep her alive long enough to claim it. If you like sexy tortured bad boy heroes then Chayot will speak to you. If you like never say die heroines then you will love Aslyn. I know I loved them both. The chemistry between them both is hot as Hades. Break out the ice water. This last of the series can be read stand alone. But you might like the rest of the stories (Secrets and Sins: Gabriel, Secrets and Sins: Malachim and Secrets and Sins: Raphael).

Chayot Gray’s life has known too much pain and loss. After all that has happened, he will never give love a chance. Aslyn Jericho, a famous classical pianist, survived a brutal attack by an obsessed fan. She moved to Boston to take back her life, but danger has come to her doorstep. Chayot, her next door neighbor and a security specialist, is determined to protect her. This is just the beginning of a powerful page turning story. Naima Simone has written a excellent suspense novel that is a combination of danger and desire. Chayot and Aslyn are powerful characters who desire and care for one another. Their interaction is very intense and their romance is very sensual. Both have painful memories that they are struggling to deal with. I enjoyed having familiar characters from the previous Secrets and Sins books involved. Chayot's story completed the circle and was the most heart breaking. It was the perfect conclusion. The careful plotting kept me guessing as to the culprit. I never saw what was coming next. Great writing, Ms. Simone. This series is on my keeper pile.
Six months ago Aslyn, a famous piano player, was attacked by a stalker. Physically, she has recovered, but mentally, she can't play the piano any longer. She has moved to Boston to try to get away from pressures and hopefully resume playing. She meets her attractive next door neighbor, Chay, when he notices a peeping tom on her property. At her manager's advice Aslyn hires Chay's security firm. Threats against Aslyn quickly escalate. Chay is attracted to Aslyn, but is wrapped up in his feelings of inadequacy about the recent events with his friends and the murder they covered up in their teens. This makes him feel that he is no good for a long-term relationship. I was so excited to read the final book about these friends! The danger and suspense element was as great as usual. My only criticism is I wanted more time spent on both Aslyn's struggle to play the piano and Chay's emotions about the murder.
Book 4 in what has been really classy, compelling series. (Chayot, though part of a series, can be read as a stand alone story without the reading experience being diminished, but be warned, you will want to read 'Gabriel', 'Malachim', and 'Raphael' too.)
As a couple, Aslyn and Chay are a brilliant fit, but both carry baggage, and Chay's, in particular, weighs a ton. Watching these two wanting to unleash their mutual attraction, but constrained by Chay's ever mindful of the need to resist, provides a brilliant pull-push to their developing relationship. Both need to heal--not easy when the past haunts. A past choked with violence and tragedy, loyalty and guilt.
An engrossing read with a perfect balance of poignancy, red-hot heat, and menace. I recommend Chayot, you won't be disappointed!
Chay and Aslyn both have some serious emotional disorders. Their journey begins when Chay spots a peeper sneaking around his neighbors house. He chases the guy away while Aslyn calls the police. Aslyn is recovering from a brutal attack and this is the last thing she needs. Yet recovering from a extremely hot man has its advantages. When he comes back to her house with the police they find a mutual attraction even though Chayot does his best to fight it, even when he and his firm are hired to protect her. As the authors has Chay and his team protecting Aslyn we are provided with the their pasts while the future demands its time. The story was intense, the characters appealing. A wonderful read. A wonderful read.
Aslyn is a concert pianist who has had nothing but bad luck. Her parents parish in a car wreak, she is stalked and almost killed by her stalker, her assistant is killed, she moves to Boston to relax and get everything into perspective when she finds she has another stalker. Then she meets her sexy next door neighbor Chay. Chay agrees to protect her through his firm, but he has dark secrets of his own that he is hiding and causes him to fight his attraction to Aslyn...
Great book. I have read the other books in this series so it was nice to see the characters back again.
I was provided a copy of this book for my honest review.
I loved this one, you have your suspense, humor, and heat. The characters won me over right from the beginning. watching Chayot realize his is worthy of love and happiness was a wonderful journey to watch. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Once you start reading it's hard to put down and you curse life for making you have to wait to read. I just want to say I was proud of myself because I figured out who the stalker was. yay Me! I highly recommend this one. The journey these two charterers take will make your heart sigh with happiness. The epilogue was the perfect way to end it.
Chayot and Aslyn both consider themselves damaged good. Will they both be able to overcome the past attacks, hurts, and betrayals and find what they both want, someone to call their own. I'm reading this series backwards, as this is the first one I have read. This will definitely not be the last. The chemistry between Chay and Aslyn is intense. I love the way the relationship between them unfolded. This story has passion and romance, action, and a whole lot of drama. I can't wait to read books 1, 2. and 3 of this series.
Best yet! I've followed the struggles of Chayot from the beginning book of the series that starred his best friends. Finally I read his story and it was amazing. The soul and spirit poured into him brought him alive in my mind and I rooting for him the whole way. The pianist story is gripping as well but Chayot really cinched the story tight. Love it! I recommend this to anyone. Great suspense, great heart & soul, and great sex.
What a fantastic book. I loved Chaya and Aslyn's story. This us my first book by this author. I will now need to go back and read all of the other books, especially if they are as steamy as this one!
This was the best book out of the four book series. The narration by Mari served to enhance the story. There was an element of suspense. Aslyn's stalker was actually stalkerish. Even when the identity became fairly obvious, I still wanted to know what was going to happen next.
I liked the way Aslyn and Chay supported each other. I also liked that Aslyn didn't sit around and wait for someone to save her. She also never presumed to have the expertise needed for protection and allowed the security company to do their job.
I was very glad Chay and Aslyn got their HEA, but I was especially glad for Chay. I do wonder if this narrator had done the first books or if I had read the ebooks if they would have been better.
This plot was too similar to Rafe and Greer. The fact that they healed each other was beautiful Very good depiction of PTSD. Unlike the other story, there were no surprising plot twists. I love this author and her character development but it seems she was tired on this book. Some of the lines during the love scenes and the heroine’s best friend comments seemed lifted from Rafe’s story. I can’t wait to read this author but I’d rather wait if she has more time to create at her usual level.
I have completely enjoyed the other books in the Secrets and Sins series by Naima Simone but this is the one I have been waiting for! One of the things I really enjoy about Ms. Simone’s writing is that she writes in a way that you can actually picture someone thinking that way or talking the way it is set out in the scene. Often books have inner dialogue, and really even actual dialogue that has you thinking who the hell talks like that? But with lines like “Damn. Why didn’t he just go home, pop in the last season of Vampire Diaries, and bedazzle his toenails”, you can actually picture someone thinking that. Another favorite was “men who looked like hot-monkey-sex-on-a-stick.” I love her style of writing and I was not so patiently waiting for this story.
Every day of his life, Chayot Gray lives with guilt, anger and embarrassment after his darkest secret came to light. If you’ve followed the series you know that in the first book, Secrets and Sins: Gabriel, it is revealed that Chayot killed his mother’s boyfriend when he was a teenager and his friends had helped him cover it up. Because of his actions, his best friends now have criminal records, his mother not only lost her boyfriend, but her second husband as well, and his life has become tabloid fodder. As a part-owner of the security firm he owns with best friend Rafe (you can read my review of his story on the site), Chay has a comfortable financial life. He moves to the suburbs to escape the media scrutiny and spots a peeping tom checking out his extremely beautiful neighbor.
After being stalked and attacked by a deranged fan, Aslyn Jericho is recuperating in Boston while trying to return to her first love – the piano. After her too hot neighbor chases the creep away from her window, Aslyn, who has a tendency to blurt out whatever comes to mind, speaks her thoughts about Chay’s good looks in front of everyone. When her manager insists that Aslyn beef up her security, she goes to Chay’s company and they agree to take her on as a client.
It quickly becomes clear that lightning has struck twice and that Aslyn has another stalker, and the threats escalate rapidly. Although Chay and Aslyn begin to grow closer, he believes that she is too good for him and pushes her away at every turn. When she is attacked, Chay moves her to a safe house and he moves right on in with her, while telling himself that she is strictly a job. The duo give in to the building sexual tension and the result is some seriously hot sex!
I loved Chay. From the beginning of the series it was clear that his story was going to be highly emotional and it delivered on that point for sure. When Chay finally opens up to Aslyn about the truth of the night so many years ago when he killed his mother’s boyfriend, it was so sad and heartbreaking. He had never told anyone the full story, not even the three friends that had helped him cover the crime up, and he had done so despite believing there could be no future between them.
I will preface this next part by saying I really loved the book and the entire series, but there was a scene missing that I waited the entire book for and even went back to read the last little bit to ensure that I hadn’t missed it. I was waiting for a scene between Chay and his mother, especially after the couple of references to his relationship with her at the beginning of the book. That never came and I really felt like something was missing to close the series off.
The book and the epilogue wrapped the series up well and there was one particular moment that makes your heart melt for Chay all over again. Both the hero and the heroine were lovable and the chemistry between them is sizzling. The story is one of survival and I really enjoyed seeing Chay get his happily ever after. I really enjoy Simone’s writing style and I will not hesitate to check out more of her work.

REVIEW: CHAYOT is the fourth instalment in Naima Simone’s adult, contemporary Secrets and Sins romance series focusing on four friends connected by a twenty year old murder and secrets from the past. Told from third person POV, this is security specialist Chayot Gray and concert pianist Aslyn Jericho’s storyline.
Six months after a stalker nearly ended Aslyn’s life, she is still no further in her emotional recovery than the day she was attacked. When the threats against her life begin anew, Aslyn calls in the team from Liberty Security Services hoping her dark, brooding and sexy neighbor Chayot Gray will be heading the team in her defense.
The relationship between Chay and Aslyn is one of immediate attraction but Chay’s past is mired is a dark secret-one that forces him into court ordered therapy and a monthly visit to his PO. As much as Chay tries to keep his distance there is something about Aslyn, his secret celebrity crush that calls to Chay’s hardened heart. But when the attacks hit too close to home, Chay and Aslyn will take refuge together drawing them to one another moths to a flame. The sex scenes are intimate, compelling, passionate and hot. Chayot’s past is revealed in more detail, one that finds a young fifteen year old boy fighting for his life and his sense of self worth.
The world building continues with all of the previous storyline couples playing a secondary role adding a familiar feel. Chay’s ‘brothers in blood’ always have his back and worry for the man whose life becomes darker with every passing day.
Naima Simone writes a fast paced story of suspense, love and a happily ever after. She pulls the reader into an imaginative series with addicting storylines and captivating characters. You will not want the stories to end.
Famed concert pianist Aslyn Jericho has not been able to play since she was physically attacked by a crazed fan six months ago. Desperate to reclaim control over her life, Aslyn decides to take some time off by hiding in Boston in her manager’s secluded condo. Her blissfulness is short-lived when she is threatened again by a copycat stalker.
Chayot “Chay” Gray is suffering from the aftermath of the revealing of his two-decade old secret. Ashamed, Chay closes himself off from the world. That is until he sees someone trying to break into his neighbor’s home. One look into Aslyn’s frightened eyes and Chay’s protective instincts go into overdrive, he’s determined to keep her out of harm’s way.
Naima Simone has written an amazingly great story that will pull at your heartstrings. I could feel Chay’s pain. I just wanted to hug him and never let him go. After reading about him throughout the Secrets and Sins series, I was glad to see him finally get a chance at love, especially since he believes he does not deserve it. Although, Aslyn has her own terrors to deal with, she makes Chay a stronger man and brings forward his self-worth. Evenly matched, their romance blossoms into something spectacular and amazing. I found myself cheering them on as they worked their way through conquering their demons, accepting their love for one another, and exposing the copycat stalker who is determined to destroy Aslyn’s life.
Chayot’s plot moves at a fast and even pace. I must admit that I identified the stalker quicker than I had in previous novels in the series. However, it didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the story because Ms. Simone successfully keeps the reader so engaged with the happenings of Chay and Aslyn, especially their blazing hot sexual encounters. I have enjoyed each story in the Secrets and Sins series. Oh, what a wonderful ending to such a magnificent series. Hats off to Naima Simone!
