About the author

Né à Marseille en 1964, Corbeyran vit à Bordeaux depuis 1987. Après avoir travaillé comme animateur de centre de vacances puis comme graphiste free-lance dans la publicité, il fait ses premiers pas dans la bd en signant le scénario de l‘album Les Griffes du Marais (Vents d’Ouest), publié en janvier 1990. 180 albums plus tard, apprécié des aficionados comme du grand public, il est aujourd’hui l’un des scénaristes français les plus en vue. Voyageur immobile, curieux de tout, avide d’images, de rencontres et d’expériences nouvelles, Corbeyran s’intéresse à (presque) tous les sujets et s’attache à explorer (presque) tous les genres, du polar (Garrigue) à la science fiction (Le Régulateur) en passant par l’aventure (Nelson Lobster), le thriller (Pulsions), l’humour (Kid Korrigan) et l'heroïc fantasy (Weëna). Le succès arrive en 1997 avec Le Chant des Stryges (Delcourt), dessiné par Richard Guérineau, un récit dense, complexe et tentaculaire qui jette une lumière inquiétante sur les origines de l'humanité en même temps qu'il pose les bases du renouveau du thriller fantastique en bande dessinée. En 1999, l'association "BD Boum" lui offre la possibilité d'orchestrer une œuvre collective autour de deux univers très particuliers : la prison et la surdité. 4 recueils de récits courts en noir et blanc donnant la parole aux détenus et aux sourds verront ainsi le jour sous la plume de dessinateurs connus (Margerin, Juillard, Mézières, Cabanes, Larcenet, Davodeau, Baudoin...) et moins connus. En 2001, la presse s'intéresse à son travail et, à la demande de la rédaction du mensuel "D.Lire", il crée la série Zélie et Compagnie (Bayard), dessinée par David de Thuin. En 2003, suite à sa rencontre avec le peintre Jean-Pierre Ugarte, il écrit Le Territoire (Delcourt), une fresque fantastique sur le thème de la mort, de l'amour et de la folie, dessinée par Espé. En 2003 toujours, c'est en compagnie du chercheur en informatique Achille Braquelaire qu'il signe Imago Mundi (Dargaud), une série de thrillers scientifiques dessinée par Luc Brahy. En 2005, sa rencontre avec le politicien Nicolas Hamm l'amène à créer La Conjuration d'Opale (Dargaud), une fable épique et ésotérique sur le thème du devenir de l'humanité, sompueusement mis en images par Grun. Si le fantastique occupe une place de choix dans sa bibliographie, Corbeyran n'hésite cependant pas à s’aventurer sur des terrains plus réalistes avec des récits intimistes et émouvants comme Lie-de-Vin ou Rosangella (Dargaud), dessinés par son complice Olivier Berlion (avec il a réalisé plus d'une vingtaine d'albums). Alors qu'une grande partie de sa production est étiquetée "ados - adulte", Corbeyran aime également s’adresser aux plus jeunes, comme en témoignent ses séries Le Cadet des Soupetard (Dargaud) et Sales Mioches ! (Casterman), toutes deux dessinées par Berlion, et plus récemment Natty et Okhéania (Dargaud) dessinées respectivement par Melvil et Picard. En 2006, les amateurs de feuilletons populaires plébiscitent La Loi des 12 Tables (Delcourt), dessiné par Défali, véritable défi scénaristique et graphique (12 épisodes de 30 pages, regroupés en 6 volumes et réalisés en 12 mois : un record !) et, en 2008, ils saluent l'originalité de l'ambitieux projet Uchronie[s] (Glénat) qui revisite la ville de New-York à travers le prisme de 3 réalités élaborées par Chabbert, Tibery et Défali. Corbeyran a obtenu le prix Jacques Lob pour l'ensemble de son oeuvre en 2005. De nombreuses autres récompenses jalonnent sa carrière : prix du meilleur album jeunesse à Blois (1996), Bulle d'Or du meilleur scénario à Brignais (1997), meilleur album à Chambéry (2000) et à Cognac (2007), prix Interfestival (2000), prix Extrapole (2000), prix des libraires Canal BD (2000), prix Tournesol (2002), prix Jules Verne (2005), Coup de Coeur à Sierre (Suisse), meilleur album étranger à Sobreda (Portugal), et, tout récemment, médaille d'argent de l'International Manga Award (Japon).

Honestly... Wtf. How could Ubisoft have approved these stories when they contradict the video games in the franchise ? If they were spin-offs alongside the games, okay. But this ? They're trying to deepen the plot of several games when there's clearly no room or even need to add to Desmond's story.
This could have been super interesting, Aquilus and Accipiter had potential but this is just wasted potential. Even on the wiki of these characters, it says that their stories are not taken into account in the Assassin's Creed timeline because there are strong contradictions encountered...
The drawings are... terrible. I'm already not a fan of comic book graphics, but this is a new level of character design. I don't know if it's the artist or the colourist who is to "blame" but it doesn't help at all to immerse oneself in the story (which is way too fast for that anyway).
What a waste of plot for a wonderful franchise...

Αρχικά, ο συγκεκριμένος τόμος προοριζόταν να ήταν ο τελευταίος της σειράς. Ως εκ τούτου, έπρεπε το story να οδηγηθεί σε ένα φινάλε και κατά προτίμηση, σ' ένα απογειωτικό φινάλε που θα οδηγούσε τους αναγνώστες στα ύψη. Δεν θα έλεγα πως τα κατάφερε να το πετύχει, αλλά τουλάχιστον δεν μας απογοήτευσε, διατηρώντας τα αρκετά καλά standards που είχε ο δεύτερος τόμος, που ήταν συγκριτικά πολύ καλύτερος από τον πρώτο. Έντονες σκηνές δράσεις, αρκετά καλή ισορροπία της πλοκής, αν και μου έλειψε η αίσθηση της κορύφωσης κατά το φινάλε, κάτι που ειδικά σε ιστορίες όπως η συγκεκριμένη, το ζητάς και δεν το διαπραγματεύεσαι. Παρ' όλα ταύτα, συνολικά, πρόκειται για μια αρκετά καλή δουλειά και κυρίως, καλύτερη απ' ότι ξεκίνησε να είναι.

Πολλά σκαμπανεβάσματα αυτή η σειρά. Μετά από την αισθητή βελτίωση του δεύτερου άλμπουμ έρχεται ένα τρίτο τελείως άχρωμο και στατικό με ελάχιστες εξελίξεις, εξελίξεις που θα μπορούσαν να συμπυκνωθούν σε 10 σελίδες το πολύ. Και τα προηγούμενα είναι αραιογραμμένα αλλά υπάρχει μια ροή γεγονότων με τον Ντέσμοντ στο παρελθόν και τις διαρκείς συγκρούσεις των Ναϊτών και Ασασίνων στο παρόν, αλλά στο τρίτο πρακτικά μαζεύονται άτσαλα οι εκκρεμότητες του δευτέρου. Ακόμα και το σχέδιο που παραμένει σε σχετικά καλά επίπεδα δεν μπορεί να σώσει την βουτιά του σεναρίου.

Τουλάχιστον ολοκληρώθηκε εδώ το πρώτο arc με την τριλογία, περιμένω να δω αν διόρθωσαν τα κακώς κείμενα στην επόμενη.

Ce tome est la suite directe du tome précédent. L'histoire débute sur un autre Assassin, Jonathan Hawk, dont l'ancêtre est Accipiter, un autre assassin. L'époque reste inchangée et nous retrouvons son ancêtre en 259 de notre ère. Son ancêtre était un Alaman, dirigeant une horde qui saccage la Gaule et l'Empire romain.

De son côté, l'ancêtre de Desmons cherche quant à lui Vultur et trouve enfin sa trace, dans sa villa où il semble vivre tranquillement, malgré le meurtre de son « ami ». Bien sûr, l'histoire tourne toujours autour de l'ankh dérobé, l'instrument égyptien censé redonné temporairement la vie à un être cher récemment perdu. Ce qui lie les deux ancêtres de Jonathan et Desmond est le lien de la famille car tous les deux ancêtres sont de lointains cousins.

De plus, la croix égyptienne renferme un secret et un nom revient sans cesse : Lugos, ainsi qu'un ordre de personnes. Du coup, chacun tente d'en savoir plus mais voilà que Jonathan retrouve Desmond et une nouvelle mission apparaît. Jonathan doit aller en Egypte sans savoir ce que sera sa mission. Quant à Desmond, il souhaite retrouver une vieille épave romaine du 3ème siècle, enfouie dans la Méditerranée depuis cette époque romaine. Un vrai challenge en gros.

Bref, l'histoire est sympa, très correct bien que courte et je me demande comment fonctionne cette croix mystique pour le coup. Quant à ce Lugos, nous entendons la voix d'une de ces descendantes car cette dernière contacte Desmond pour un certain dossier. En tous les cas, cela donne vraiment envie d'en savoir plus à chaque fois, mais j'espère que ce n'est pas un genre de spin-off qui va durer trop longtemps avant d'enfin en voir le bout. En conclusion, un très bon tome à posséder dans sa bibliothèque.

Accipiter ist im letzten Band aufgetaucht und nun erfahren wir mehr über ihn.

Die Geschichte geht interessant weiter. Aquilus, Desmond und das Team, Accipiter... sie alle spielen in diesem Band eine Rolle. Die Handlung und die Suche nach dem Ankh hat mir gut gefallen. Man darf nur nicht an den Videospielen festhalten und muss dies einfach als eine separate Interpretation vom Franchise halten. Dann ist die Graphic Novel sehr unterhaltsam. Die Actionszenen hätten meiner Meinung nach ein kleines bisschen länger sein können.

Aber die Illustrationen aus Aquilus leben und gerade die wo es keinen Dialog gibt sind einfach wunderschön.

Der Band hat mir gefallen und ich werde die anderen Bände ebenfalls lesen.

It's pretty intriguing how this comic introduces a new character who's supposed to take over the role of modern-day protagonist from Desmond (Hawk), meanwhile neglecting to give him a personality. He has a cool scarf, though. 🙄🙃

There's also a romance subplot in this volume that's a little bland.

I quite liked the story beats in Roman times, I liked that Desmond and Hawk's ancestors were connected so we could follow the story from multiple angles. It wasn't anything mindblowing, though. You might as well not read this series. I've read fanfiction that has better structure and more depth than this.

At least we get more Shaun. 💖

Ostatnia część trylogii wypada najlepiej, prawdopodobnie dlatego, że najwięcej wydarzeń rozgrywa się w przeszłości. Dużo się dzieje na różnych płaszczyznach, więc trzeba śledzić akcję z uwagą, aby się nie pogubić. Rysunki bardzo mi się podobały, ale żaden nie wywołał efektu "wow". Fabuła taka do zapomnienia, postacie nie miały za dużo miejsca, żeby się odpowiednio rozwinąć. Polecam wyłącznie fanom serii.

Recommended only for super fans of the series. I know matching the awesomeness of the video games is a high bar to clear but this doesn't really expand the lore in any meaningful way or offer anything interesting in-and-of-itself to recommend to those unfamiliar (and thus uninvested) with the characters.

Direi anche che si vede lontano un miglio che gli autori sono francesi e non americani...

Finished it just now and really liked it. As someone who has played some Assassin's Creed, I enjoyed this book(still need to read the first book too lol), and can't wait to read the others. It was a graphic novel, and the artstyle is 🤌.

Accipiter was an Aleman general and a member of the Assassin Order. In 259 CE, Accipiter was in a leading position of the Alemanni forces, leading them in battle across Gaul, hoping to conquer the region. Accipiter was both a barbarian general and a loyal supporter of his family. Despite being on opposite sides from the Gallo-Roman Assassin Aquilus, Accipiter not only took responsibility for his cousin's life on the battlefield, he also swore to spare Aquilus' hometown.

I'm enjoying this issue more than the first two. I have a feeling that in the next Assassin's Creed game, we will no longer be following the main Eagle branch of the Assassins. I'm really excited to read the next one.

I picked up five volumes of the series at the library at once (it's a six part series, but the library cunningly carries only the first five). I picked up them all, because they are very short volumes (about 50 pages or so) with relatively little text on the pages - made to look even shorter by the thick hard covers that take more than 2/3rds of the thickness.

The overall story seems a bit meandering, with no clear plot. New characters get introduced, old ones are forgotten and the only plot there is seems to be some sort of a fight between an old order of Assassins and Knight Templars. This is evinced by assassinations attempts (in which, surprisingly enough, the assassins are the target) and a race to find some ancient relics for one purpose or another.

The creators claim that this is as enjoyable by fans of the game as it is by newcomers, but this is not really true. I know of the games, but have not played them and I cannot make heads or tails of why these two groups keep fighting, how they have got their hands on tech called "Animus" (are they the only ones in possession of these, or are they more common? Who keeps improving them?) that allows them both to explore the "genetic memories" of people (mainly the Assassins who seem to have had dealings with the ancient relics over the centuries).

Probably more enjoyable to fans of the game.

'Assassin's Creed: Accipiter' es el cierre de esta trilogía y a su vez el comienzo de una nueva serie que dejará de lado a Desmond y sus antepasados.

En esta última parte, la acción en el presente transcurre en Monteriggioni, otra localización de sobra conocida para los amantes de los videojuegos. En cuanto al pasado, se pone punto y final a la aventura de Aquilus y en Ankh a la vez que se da mucha importancia a otro Asesino, Accipiter, primero del primero y bárbaro alemán que ataca a Roma.

El final de esta trilogía mantiene un buen nivel con bastante acción tanto en presente como pasado, y nos presenta a Jonathan Hawk, descendiente de Accipiter y que previsiblemente será el protagonista de la nueva serie, la cual comenzará en Egipto.

Como resumen de toda la obra, se debe considerar como un añadido muy interesante al universo de AC, dejando un montón de matices que podrían ser tratados en el futuro de la franquicia y nuevos Asesinos que lucen muy bien. El punto negativo son esas inconsistencias argumentales que no permiten su encaje en la obra de Ubisoft, pero sabiendo esto, se puede disfrutar mucho de esta historia paralela.

Probably the best of the "Ankh of Isis Trilogy" (if you could call it that), but it's still not worth the paper it's printed on. There is some good stuff in here. SOME element of work put into this story. But there's only just enough good in this to level out all the bad. It's just average. And, on top of all that, it leaves you with the laziest writing gimmick- the cliff-hanger. If I were more invested in these shallow characters in this rushed story, I would read more, but this trilogy of promises for something better later is just not worth it. Even if you're an Assassin's Creed fan, this is not worth reading.

Dans ce tome, Desmond continue à revivre les aventures de son ancêtre Aquilus. Il recherche le mystérieux Ankh qui contiendrais des enregistrements importants.

Finalement, après un premier tome désastreux, l'histoire commence à devenir intéressante.

I'm not too crazy about this non-canonical version of the Desmond's story, but I kinda like the eras they're exploring.

It seems that the final volume in the series will take place in a different era.
