Gravitational Attraction

Rate this book
A mysterious distress call draws the crew of courier ship Hermes to what appears to be an empty, drifting troop vessel--empty except for the blood and gore spattered corridors and a lone survivor locked in a holding cell. Drawn to the handsome, traumatized man, the crew’s comm officer, Isaac Ozawa, makes Turk his personal responsibility, offering him the kindness and warmth he needs after the horror he experienced.

Isaac knows firsthand what it’s like to be different and an outcast, and this cements their bond. Once a promising pilot, Isaac was left with a damaged body when his brain didn't meld with the high-tech implant needed to fly fighter ships. Turk’s brain is no better. The result of a military experiment gone wrong, his natural abilities have been augmented to a dangerous degree.

When an amoral, power-hungry admiral kidnaps Isaac and uses him to convince Turk to become the cataclysmic weapon he’s hungered for, it will take Turk’s strength, the ingenuity of the Hermes crew, the help of the enigmatic Drak’tar, and Isaac’s own stubborn will to save them.

The story centers around Turk, an alien warrior, and Isaac, a communications officer who’s struggling with his implant. When the Hermes crew rescues Turk from a bloodstained, abandoned ship, Isaac takes him under his wing, offering kindness and warmth after the horrors he’s endured. From the moment Turk lays eyes on Isaac, his heart is captured.

"You make my blood sing." Turk wrapped an arm around his waist and pulled Isaac on top of him. "Your smile takes the strength from my legs. Your laugh wraps heated plumes about my heart."

Their relationship leans toward insta-love, but the hurt/comfort dynamic is excellent, making their bond feel emotionally deep and genuine.

Turk’s past is dangerous. As a result of a failed military experiment, he holds secrets in his mind that could turn him into the ultimate weapon. When an admiral abducts Isaac to manipulate Turk, that’s when the story really takes off!

The sci-fi elements are intriguing, with decent worldbuilding that isn’t overwhelming. The alien language is detailed, and the glossary at the end of the book is a a huge plus.

Sci-fi, gay romance
Insta love
Low steam (a couple of scenes)
Hurt/comfort x2
Political manipulation
Found family
Soul mates
The music connection
HEA

There are some aspects of the world that feel underdeveloped. What happened to the space marauders introduced at the beginning, who are never mentioned again? The alien society could have used more explanation. It left some questions about reproduction and societal structure that weren’t fully addressed. Most of the males are gay, and the females are rare and protected?

Overall, I loved this premise and storytelling. Wish we had been given an epilogue.

Takes place in the same Prisoner 374215 universe, but is a complete standalone story.

This was a solid 4 stars read for me. Lots of angst and raw emotions yet enticing and beautiful. There’s one thing I don’t understand about this book though. While it’s showing only about 270 pages here in GR, it’s actually described as 596 pages on Amazon and I think the latter is true. This is a bit too long for merely over 200 pages count. Ok .. enough blubbering and here comes the review. 😁

Issac is a former Altarian pilot. In this universe, the pilots are implanted with symbionts in their brains and the aircrafts and the pilots work as one. However, there are rare cases that the implant isn’t compatible with the host human and the host suffers both physical and mental problems. Issac is one of those pilots whose implant didn’t synchronize well with and thus, he was discharged from the army. He’s really broken, both physically and mentally. He even thought to give up his life but now working as a communication officer at a cargo spaceship and trying to adjust life again.

Turk is a Cozin, human like aliens who are very fierce and strong warriors. He’s sent to human government and supposed to work under them for a period of time as a part of cultural exchange program. The thing is, he’s discovering new abilities that he never knew possessed during his time in human world. And as Issac, he’s also afraid of his own brain and it’s capabilities.

The path of these two crossed when the cargo ship Hermes received a SOS call from another spaceship. Issac was included in the rescue team and when they boarded and went into that judicial spaceship, they found a sole survivor who is Turk, alone, starved, imprisoned in a small cell. Turk has lost his recent memories, paranoid and didn’t know whom to trust. It was hurtful and heartwarming at the same time to see how those two broken souls comforted each other and realized that they were soulmates. This novel is more about world building, science fiction and storyline than the steamy romance. Don’t get me wrong, they do get their very happy HEA. But what I’m saying is you can’t expect typical weird and kinky and sexy alien sex here in this book. I feel like this book is very much like Lyn Gala’s books minus ideologies. However, their writing styles are totally different and I am very VERY impressed with how detailed and intricately the world is built here by the author. 👏 And the storyline and plots are so interesting and fascinating too. I really loved it. I just wish there are more intimate moments between Issac and Turk. 😌

Favorite excerpt from the book: 💜

“I cannot compel you to stay with me. I would not demand it.” He slid his hands down Isaac’s sides to grip his hips. “If you refuse me, if you leave me, I must let you go. But I will spend my life as half a man, never whole again.”

Not going to finish this. Big Gorgeous Uber-Alpha with a gentle soul and Small Beautiful Wounded Heart Beta whom everybody just adores. Everybody is good and honorable and understanding, except the one token bad guy who wants to ruthlessly exploit Big Gorgeous Uber-Alpha for his special mind powers. All the good peoples are just shocked by any use of violence and thankfully even the fighter pilot working for the evil Admiral escapes his plane just before BGUA is forced to rip it to shreds with his mind. Because, you know, he is just following orders and can't be blamed for Evil Admirals nefarious actions, so he's not really a bad guy and doesn't deserve to die.

First it's hurt/comfort for the big guy, then it's hurt/comfort for the little guy, so if you enjoy that kind of dynamic this could be good news for you, because at 63% where I quit we're still in the thick of that.

There is also the whole destined-soul-mate thing going on. Which never works for me. It seems like the author just expects the reader to swoon at how romantic it is to find your true-love-forever and just know he's the one. For me it kills any tension between the MCs completely dead. No confusion, no doubt, no internal conflict. The worst of the conflict between the MCs boils down to:

"I am so sorry you got hurt by the bad guys, you wouldn't have gotten hurt if it wasn't because of how much I love you, it's all my faaaauuuuuuult"

"Nonono, it's not your fault, I shouldn't have done whatever I did, you are good and wonderful and I love you".

Yawn.

Seriously.

I love sci-fi romance. I especially love it when it's a mate story and all the conflict and angst is from outside forces and not the relationship. Such was this story here.

I absolutely LOVED Turk. He knows immediately that there is something different about Isaac and even though he is scared of what the future holds for them, he doesn't fight it.
“The Corzin feel that connection as surely as we feel heat and cold. The resonances match, hearts singing in tandem. You are the piece my heart was missing.”~Turk

Isaac, though human, feels the pull to Turk even when Turk reacts violently to him in the beginning. Isaac doesn't fight it either and just longs to have someone to love him even though he feels like a failure from a botched implant.
"Good, solid work among good, solid people, without giving up the stars, what more could he have wanted? Someone who loves me…."~Isaac

These two were so good and sweet together. I loved how they tended to put the other first. Neither could stay away from the other.
"Turk’s heart yearned for him when he was out of sight and leaped with eager need whenever he was near."

Overall, there was some interesting world building and different peoples, with the Cozin being an interesting group where the females and males only have mates within their own sex and procreate through artificial means. The women are just as strong of warriors as the men. But not only that, they all helped to protect an entirely different species with whom they live. It was very fascinating.

Of course, you have the baddie who wants to use Turk for no good means. I was disappointed we didn't get to see how he was actually dealt with. Which really brings me to why not 5 stars? Because this certainly pushed a lot of my 5 star buttons for a great read. There were many things I felt could have been expanded on and had more detail that could have made this an excellent read. I was a little disappointed in things here or there that just weren't detailed.

But overall, it was a great read and I'm going to check out the other books that are centered in this universe. I really hope we get more of Turk and Isaac and get to see where are they now. Not to mention does Logan find him a Cozin or two to love? And I wouldn't mind Turk's father, Loric, getting a new chance at finding "his heart" again. (Even though dead exes are NOT my thing lol). Oh and how about a ménage book with Nidar, Ges and Tash! So many excellent possibilities!!!

Too romance-y. I like a little romance with my science fiction, not vice versa.

And I am so over size difference in m/m. Obviously not everyone in the universe is the same size, but when a male couple's size difference is presented as a Big Deal, and harped on repetitively, it's a turnoff for me. Yes, one of them is small and slender, like a woman. Yes, the other is large and muscular, like a big ol' manly man. Ugh. If I wanted to read m/f, I'd read m/f. I'm bailing out at 12% before I let this annoy me any further.

4.5 stars. This is a science fiction/romance with a nice amount of plot, but the emphasis is definitely on the romance. It begins as a fairly conventional smaller-damaged-man (Isaac) and larger-strong-love-interest (Turk) romance. But the setting and plot are imaginative and fast-moving, and the dynamics of the relationship do shift and become more interesting over the course of the story. There is a fated-mate component, driving the speed with which the two men fall for each other. That's a trope that sometimes doesn't work for me, but in this story I was happy to go along with it.

The science fiction part of this is well done, but not heavy. Someone who enjoys fantasy would have no problem appreciating this book. Turk is an archetypal hero - big, strong, a superlative fighter, but sensitive and romantic. Almost too good to be true, but you can't help loving him all the same. (He and his people reminded me a bit of the Dorsai! - not a complaint; I sometimes wonder if anyone besides me slashed those...) I really liked Isaac - vulnerable, damaged, a bit short-tempered, but determined and more self-reliant than he seems at first. The world-building was interesting and the plot twists had me reading along quickly.

The only reason this didn't quite hit five stars for me were a few minor logic niggles, and the fact that although I really liked both characters, I didn't fall into their relationship emotionally quite as much as in my best-loved books. That deep character identification is very idiosyncratic for me - some books that people find very emotional don't connect quite the same way with me. This one had moments that could have been high angst, so for some readers it may in fact be an emotional roller-coaster as well as a fascinating and enjoyable story. I would definitely read another story by this author, about this couple and their societies or otherwise. I've had the LHNB story on my TBR list, and plan to move it up now.

As much as I adore Science Fiction in television (Star Trek! SG1!) and films (Star Wars! Star Trek!) I'm not a huge fan of SciFi M/M romance. I've only read a handful and other than the F.I.S.T.S. series, they haven't done a whole lot for me.

Gravitation Attraction has been on my must read classics list for years. I finally read my copy (the original version I bought from Silver Publishing, those bastards) and really enjoyed it!

While I was expecting an outer-space adventure, this was really two books in one. It was part space adventure, similar to Turbulance and part alien exploration, similar to Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts. I loved the combo and thought it was well put together.

I absolutely adored our hero Turk. He was so enjoyable to read and just oozed romance and passion. His fresh take on sexuality being about love and the pleasure of your mate was incredible. I liked hero Issac too, but Turk is an absolute dreamboat and stole the whole show.

“Damn… just, damn.” Isaac twitched hard when Turk gave one last lick at his cock. “I’ll never accept another blowjob again.”

Turk slid up to lie beside him, one hand caressing his stomach. “Oh?”

“Nothing will ever compare.” He lifted a shaking hand to cup Turk’s face. “But you didn’t get anything out of it.”

Turk’s eyebrows crept up. “Your joy is more than something.” He leaned in to nuzzle at Isaac’s jaw. “And I’ve only begun.”

“Was hoping you’d say that.”

“You make my blood sing.” Turk wrapped an arm around his waist and pulled Isaac on top of him. “Your smile takes the strength from my legs. Your laugh wraps heated plumes about my heart.”

See???

Isaac chuckled. “You’ve thanked me for saving you, yes. Most beautiful thank you I ever got.”

“Not merely for saving me. For finding me, for not giving up.” Turk eased the ship out at the head of their fighter formation. “The universe is circular, I think.”

“Could be.”

“So many things are forced into circular shapes by gravitational attraction. The universe must be as well. So must all things, in the end. Infinitely circular.”

SciFi M/M romance fans, this one is for you. M/M romance fans, if you haven't read any SciFi and would like to give it a try, I can highly recommended this one for it's excitement and incredible romance.

The paperback of Gravitational Attraction has been sitting, partially read, on my nightstand for over a year!!, and I finally finished it. To be honest, I enjoyed it more than my extremely slow pace lets on, but I've enjoyed other books by Angel Martinez more.

Gravitational Attraction has sort of an insta-love/attraction vibe that doesn't usually work for me, but I was won over by the sci-fi elements and the plucky space crew side characters. The main character were pretty good too, even if I could have used more relationship development and a longer UST time period.

I enjoyed the action, the powers of the main character, and especially the details from Turk's home planet. I'm a sucker for a good sci-fi story, and Gravitational Attraction was almost there. I'm still glad I have the paperback (signed by the author!), even if it took me literally years to get through.

Tricked. Bamboozled, I tell you. *grunts*

The beginning of this book is so dark and gritty that I felt a delightful shiver rundown my spine.
The numbers and symbols flashing across his internal display didn't keep him from seeing the gore strewn about the corridors, as if some gruesome human abattoir had suffered a catastrophic explosion.

Hello. I am so ready for this twisted tale to unfold. But what began in the pitch black ends with rainbows and sunshine O_o

I loved the characters. All of them. Not only were the MCs awesome and lovingly scarred when we meet them, but the secondary characters rocked, too. Oz is beautiful, damaged and doing just fine, thank you very much when he encounters Turk. An impressive and intimidating mountain of a warrior. A Corzin, a race feared for their unparalleled martial acumen. Silent and terse in combat mode and a veritable poet and meltingly sensual when inspired.

The worldbuilding was fascinating and sucked me in. Both the technical and social structures were well wrought. The dialogue was smart and character distinct. I was rambling right along until we hit the midpoint and then everything slowed…down. The edge was gone and things began to feel fluffy.

Don't get me wrong, I wanted some happiness and earned bliss for our daring and beautiful protagonists--but the shift about 50% is significant. Utopia discovered and threatened by evil Empire…*deep sigh*…yeah, a little abrupt. So we ended up at 4 stars instead of 5. That said, I was riding high the entire way and definitely interested in more books planned for this universe.

DNF at 27%, so no rating.

Right from the start, I didn’t engage in this story and found the characters and the dialogue a bit…”childish” (?!? That’s the best word I can find to express how I felt).
It had some pretty good reviews, so it must be a case of “it’s me, not the book”. However, as I keep picking it up and putting it down, it’s time for me to give up.

When I first started this story, I really had no idea exactly what I was getting myself into. I knew it was scifi but beyond that, I was left in the dark. What I found when I read this book was an intriguing, captivating, suspenseful and beautiful story. From the beginning I was enamored and drawn into the book, I didn't want to put it down and I ended up devouring the story so fast I was left bereft when I had nothing left to read. Not because the story lacked anything but because I just wanted more and more and more.

The beginning starts out gruesome and horrifying and had me hanging on the edge of my seat. I felt a wide range of emotions throughout this whole book, from horrifying to happy to sad to angry to being warm and fuzzy to even worry and pain. I felt what the characters felt and there is nothing better out there than when I can physically connect with a fictional character. Issac and Turk are both so unique and have their own voices that it was interesting exploring who they were and what their customs were. I loved these characters because they were flawed and because their lives were threatened constantly yet they were able to stick it out for the love they developed.

There isn't one thing I would change about this book except to make it longer and maybe having had the glossary in the beginning of the book instead of the end (where I didn't notice it until I finished the story). I loved learning about this world, the different species, the characters and especially experiencing Turk's family and his customs. I liked the fact that Turk was so mentally broken while Isaac was a bit bitter over being defective. I don't have anything bad to say about this book because I honestly loved it that much. I really hope there is more to come from this world because I would love to see Isaac and Turk in their new roles as well as getting to know more about Logan and Turk's other brothers.

Definitely recommended to those looking for a great scifi book.

Wow! This is an amazing science fiction story that swept me away into a world of crooked fleet officers, men valiantly fighting for their freedom and the right not to become ‘experiments’, and an alien race that has a very interesting way of looking at life. The combination of a fascinating view of a potential future and a hot romance between two men whom I quickly grew to care for was as spell-binding as the world they live in.

I really enjoyed this book, as it helped me channel a bit of my inner Firefly awesome nerdiness. The world building was fantastic and Martinez has a great flair for description. The love story was wonderfully told and I liked the set up for what I assume will be a sequel.

A few things kept from being five stars, the first of which is the fact that with a fantasy world, came the requisite other-worldly languages that were quoted throughout the book. Only when I reached the end of the book was there a pronunciation guide, and by then, I'd already made up my own versions of the word (Think of it like a version of mad-libs.)

The other issue (and this is strictly personal, mind you) is the use of the endearments "hon" and "babe" on the part of one of the MC's. It got to the point where one or the other was used in what seemed like every sentence. Again, this is a personal preference, but it took me out a bit when there's an action scene, and our heroes are going against impossible odds, and a sentence pops up like (and this totally off the top of my head): "Set your phasers for stun, hon."

But again, a pretty great read.

I just finished Gravitational Attraction. It really was very different than what I was expecting. Which wasn't a bad thing, though. About the first 40% of the story was a very sweet romance in a way that surprised. I thought it would be more a rakish merc and humanoid military romance, a bit more on the darker side, gritty. I mean there is a torture scene in the book, but it still is rather sweet and you get attached to those characters, especially the MCs. It's all very "comfort zone", even with the treat and the sci-fi aspects, it feels familiar, sweet and safe. And the suddenly it turns into a story of recovery and exploring a very different alien culture. It is obvious that a lot of planning went into creating a different world with it's own language, culture and traditions. It is very different, but the author introduces the reader and the MC slowly and it's just amazing ;) A very inspired and wonderful read. The only thing that I didn't love was that it got a bit too sweet at times (there's a passage where pretty much every sentence between the MCs starts with an endearment). Still, it has to be 5 stars for me!

Angel Martinez where the hell have you been... How can you have so many books out and I did not know you before this book? I love it when I discover a fantastic new author that has a good amount of back catalog for me to get lost reading for some time.

and I get all smoopy and am practically twirling my hair and batting eyes at Ms. Martinez's work.

Which is so wrong because She writes such powerful and moving and yes in some cases dark tales. Actions have consequences and those consequences are not all kittens and sunshine as much as I love those type of stories.

There are so many things I could write about Turk and Isaac to make you want to hear their story but really after just finishing the tale all I can manage is READTHEF'INGTHINGRIGHTTHEHELLNOW

OMG FABULOUS!!! *happy dance, happy dance, happy dance!* I absolutely adored this book. Turk is just this hunk of sexy alpha male full of honor and Isaac…what can I say? The most adorable snarky bit of a bottom ever, and never once loses his man card!

Isaac has struggled since being honorably discharged for not bonding fully with his implant. But unlike other unsuccessful pairings Isaac hasn’t taken his own life. Instead he’s managed to find work working as a comms officer on a private spaceship since he can no longer work as a pilot. His medical issues just won’t allow it. When his ship stumbles across an abandoned Judiciary Transport ship everything changes.

Turk had thought all was lost until the crew of the Hermes stumbled over his cell on board the transport ship. A Corzin warrior he was being transported on a classified mission. After weeks alone after their ship lost the battle with raiders Turk is barely hanging on to his sanity. Then Isaac appeared. Turk hearts leaps and he knows he’s found the other half of himself.

With alien species and epic sci-fi adventures I can easily accept an instalove/bonding and Ms. Martinez doesn’t disappoint in any of the romance or adventure with this novel. The attraction between Turk and Isaac is instantaneous and there’s never any real question of them being together, but each one of their stumbles is so sweetly written and believable. This book is action from the get go and I was lost in this world immediately. Caught in battle between individual honor and mans’ ambitions Turk and Isaac must take on half the galaxy if they’re to find their happily ever after. For the powers Turk possess, in the wrong hands, could result in catastrophes around the galaxy.

Where to start with this book! There was so much to the good in here. I devoured every page. I guess first I’ll just say I love sci-fi. In fact it was the first genre I was introduced to growing up that wasn’t a young adult Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew style book. I was given Anne McCaffery in 4th grade and never looked back. If a writer can mange to create an entire realm/world/universe, complete with it’s own set of rules, languages, etc, and never break those boundaries they’ve created, I’m sold! Ms. Martinez does that beautifully here. In no way are the particulars of this universe shoved down the readers’ throat. Instead they are carefully blended into the narrative in such a way that one never notices the intricacies of the world, but still fully understands everything about it. The different cultures and ideas were quite clear to me. I understood how each part of this universe fit with the others. It was seamless writing.

And the characters here…WOW! I’m in love with the entire crew of the Hermes. Each of them are so distinctive and the familial bonds they’ve developed are heartwarming. As a side relationship Rand and Travis...awwwwwwwwww. The real strength of character for me though is in Isaac. He’s just perfectly amazingly wonderful. To have lost as much as he has and still choose to be a positive force in this world is incredible. He fights every day to do what he can, pushing his own boundaries despite knowing the pain that will result. When he’s with Turk, the fact that Mr. Alpha over there wants to wrap him in a ball and protect his fragile self does nothing to stop Isaac’s drive. He stands up to his man and insists on being the fighter that he is at heart. Isaac’s pain and anguish when he thinks Turk has abandoned him and his strength when he’s captured endeared him even more to me. I felt right along with these two.

While the overarching plot may be stereotypical (big bad general wants to control everything and sends out the big guns) the characters and lovely writing keep this story flowing brilliantly. This is clearly a case where the bad guys are truly bad, and the good guys are all extremely good. You know good is going to win out here, it's never really in doubt, it's only a matter of how they're going to go about it. This is the perfect happy, sweet, lost in space story that anyone who enjoys sci-fi can get behind. So absolutely 100% worth the read!

3.75 stars. I was surprised this sci-fi romance didn't grab me in the same way it wowed several of my GR friends. I liked it, but never quite came to love it.

In the beginning it took me a long while to grow fond of the characters (close to dnf actually). Then I much enjoyed the middle section at the alien home world, but got slightly bored with the story in the last few chapters. My complaints are mere personal preference; initially too much focus on the MC's external good looks at the expense of character depth (albeit remedied later on). And the last parts of the story balanced on the verge of turning the main pair into superheroes when the world needed saving.

Admittedly, I'm curious of what the future holds for Isaac and Turk, and also for young side character Logan. I would probably be intrigued to read a sequel featuring him as a main character, because I found him quite charming.

This is easily my favorite of Angel Martinez's books that I have read so far. The two main characters are strong yet scarred, physically and emotionally, men, who must strive against the odds to overcome their past and present traumas to gain love and a future together. It is a pretty evenly paced novel, with lots of action and adventure nicely balanced by softer tender moments mixed with some steamy scenes. Their journey together gives them the courage to learn and accept their own flaws, providing the way to learn new abilities and new confidence. I really, really enjoyed this novel, and look forward to more from this author who is definitely evolving into a talented writer. More please!

Every time I start a M/M Romance novel I never know quite want to expect. Gravitational Attraction ended up being a very pleasant surprise. The story drew me in and held my attention for all 419 pages. The plot was well written and imaginative. I'm going to have to a serious look at other titles by this author.

I very much recommend this title to everyone. A great read!

I could probably count on one hand how much sci-fi romance I've read. I like sci-fi in films and was brought up with Star Trek, but for some reason this has never translated into reading books of this genre.

This, however, was pretty amazing.

The world building is nothing short of brilliant. There is such wealth of imagination and depth of detail I was bawled over with it all. I would be lying if I said I understood all the techno talk (Not sure that is the point anyway), and of course this is one thing you have to expect in a sci-fi novel.
The Corzin culture, the way Turk's people live, etc. is fabulously explored, painting a very lively picture of a very different world.

What impressed me most was the dedication of the author to create a language (with pronunciation tips and all). And I LOVED Turk's ability and what he could do with it - so original and inventive!

Needless to say that I adored Turk and Isaac (maybe Turk a little bit more...*G*). I would be more than happy to be swept off my feet by that gentle giant who says the most wonderful things..

" I want to meld our bodies because you make my blood boil. I want you with a hunger that rivals the need to breathe."

"You make my blood sing... Your smile takes the strength from my legs. Your laugh wraps heated plumes about my heart."
Sigh....

The way he calls Isaac 'artenis', and 'my little one' was totally swoon-worthy.

And Isaac just shredded my heart to bits. The health issues that plague him made him so vulnerable and understandably cross with life. But his determination and 'fierceness' do not allow him to give up. I also thoroughly enjoyed all the dry humour and the banter, and this surely must be one of the best outbursts ever..

"You let him loose, you misbegotten bastard sons of mongrel scat-tunnel whores!"
While Turk didn't think the imaginative cursing would get them free, he appreciated the stubborn ferocity, and it seemed to make Isaac feel better.

As for the two men's relationship, the 'courting' was a bit on the short side, although the deep connection between them is tangible throughout - and the sex is lovely and hot. My only regret is that there wasn't a bit more in the last third of the book. I was hoping there might be one more scene showing that Isaac's health had improved.

All in all a really captivating, compelling book with two incredibly 'lovely' MCs.

Highly recommended!

Beautiful, beautiful story! With beautiful, romantic and brave MCs!

First, I have to tell you that Katerina spoilt me! She did! In her review, she put EXACTLY the quotes that I marked while reading. Some of the most beautiful quotes I've read. AND, what's more important, I pictured Turk and Isaac with the faces/people from her photos. My MCs were her MCs. (Because those guys from the cover? Honsetly?)

So, really, Kat, thank you! For recommending this book to me and for your great review !!!

I just want to tell you, my GR friends, that this book is simply PERFECT!

As for an "insta-love", "bonded mate" trope, it was incredibly romantic and it actually took our MCs quite some time to get close to each other, to trust each other and to accept that unconditional love that Turk has felt almost since the beginning but that Isaac has had to embrace.

Poor Isaac, damaged Isaac, who had a really bad luck with his implant and his pilot career but who refused to be weak and sorry for himself. After his initial downfall he found his place in the crew of the Hermes.

After Isaac finds Turk left alone to die in a spaceship cell - he has to act! The Hermes crew don't trust the huge man at the beginning but Isaac... He feels something towards the scared, taciturn, a bit old-fashioned seeming warrior.

I won't give away any more plot... Just know that the world-building was exquisite - the planet of the Corzin was so different and detailed. The plot twist maybe was predictable but it gave this great story the speed and the suspense. And both MCs were just beautiful, inside and out.

Highly recommended for all MM sci-fi fans!
And Angel Martinez, you rock! :)
Definitely my next must-buy author!

Welp, this started out well enough with the tension and characters with individual personalities, including humor and appropriate for the moment seriousness. The humor remained, as well as the characters, but not much of the tension, at least not for me. I think this is mostly due to the endearments and light-hearted dialogue during many of the heavier, action or battle scenes. This tended to dilute the density that should have been there.

The writing style is smooth, I like it and felt comfortable and glided on through it. I would probably read something else by this author because of that.

As for the story, I would call it ok but not entirely memorable. There is creativity with the place and people names, as well as the words spoken in one of the character's 'foreign' languages. I pretty much had to come up with my own pronunciations for it all. I don't mind doing that, especially if the words appear regularly, which allows me to more easily remember how I did decide to pronounce them.

The connection and resulting relationship between Isaac and Turk didn't completely grab me. I didn't become invested fully. They're sweet and kind and sort of hot. It felt like the surface gestures overwhelmed the deeper feelings, so that when the emotion needed to exert itself in the story, it lost some of its impact.

The plotting and structure make sense, nothing felt illogical. This, along with the writing style, would encourage me to read more by this author as I stated up there.

For me, the more interesting coupling comes from Rand and Travis, two supporting characters that eventually realize and allow themselves to act upon that realization of their attraction.

This book is too long to be considered a comfort read, along with the other reasons stated. It is an enjoyable romp of fluff in space, with some fun detail and a good level of creativity.

The crew of the Hermes responds to a mysterious distress signal from a ship left drifting in space. It appears to be empty, but upon closer inspection there seems to be one possible life sign - a survivor. Isaac Ozawa, the ship's communication officer, and a team of others are sent to rescue whoever might be left alive and see if they can figure out what happened.

What Isaac finds is a bloody mess throughout the ship, and one lone man locked in a holding cell. A giant of a man whom he coaxes out and into safety. A man who turns out to be a Drak'tar warrior named Turk.

Isaac feels an immediate connection and attraction to the silent, traumatized man, and makes it his mission to provide comfort and solace. Because Isaac knows about being different, broken, and not fitting in. Once a promising pilot, his brain did not meld well with a high tech implant, and he was left with an untrustworthy body, his career gone.

As the crew takes Turk to his original destination, Turk has secrets of his own that may prove dangerous for his new found friends. His own brain is valued by the military for it's potential, and he is committed, through his honor and word, to serve those who could cause harm to the man he now has fallen for - Isaac.

Will Turk be able to maintain the honor of his people and keep Isaac safe? Are the secrets he holds enough to drive him and Isaac apart? Can he keep his love safe?

Angel Martinez blew me the hell away with this inventive, beautifully crafted and well honed epic sci fi romance. She has it all here - characters that leap off the page and demand attention, a story line that grabbed me from the first page, and a world that is finely detailed and designed.

Isaac is fantastic. A hero with a huge heart who has somehow found his way back after being broken physically and emotionally. His sense of self was so crushed with the failure of his dream to be a pilot, and then the slow loss of his relationship almost ruined him. But the strength of the man, his character and soul came shining through.

And Turk is a revelation. A warrior, quiet and strong with a huge sense of honor and commitment. A man like him needs no one. And yet. He bonds so quickly with Isaac, allowing him to be the strength and support he needs, then returning it when Isaac is in need. Such a gentle-hearted giant, and so sincere in his love and giving.

Ms. Martinez really astounded me with this book. The whole of it spoke to me, shouting and demanding to be heard and enjoyed. I could not put it down, and read late into the night to finish it and still wanted more. The action, the romance, the sheer sense of adventure, fun and exhilaration had me remembering back to how I felt when I saw the first "Star Wars" movie in 1977. Such innovation and excitement - it made my blood run hot and my heart beat faster.

Thanks for bringing that back to me, Ms. Martinez. I love that "Holy Hell" feeling of amazement.

One of the best books of this year. Any year.

It is one thing to write a good romance novel with strong likeable characters who draw you in and create a magical relationship between you the reader and the story. It is even more rare to find that story sparking your imagination and prompting you to dwell there, making the characters come alive as if they were a part of your life. You have been drawn into the novel in a way that is most satisfying! When you find an author who does a good job in this, they are worth their weight in gold. However, it is quite another thing altogether to not only write a good story but to also create the entire universe in which the story takes place. To develop language and customs, rituals and history so in depth that you feel as though you could easily slip into that alternate universe each time you open the book. Welcome to Gravitational Attraction by Angel Martinez.

The story revolves around a discharged fleet pilot Isaac, who by virtue of a chip implant gone awry, will never again be able to pilot a fighter craft. His life now consists of his duties as a communications officer aboard a C-Courier ship--a commercial transport vessel. On mission they discover a ship in distress and onboard one survivor--a Corazin fighter named Turk. Now at this point I could go into several paragraphs describing what happens in this novel--and all of it would be fascinating and you would be awed by the depth to which Angel Martinez crafted her world and the characters in her novel. Suffice it to say that these two men endure countless hardships from the almost near death disruption and reprogramming of Isaac's chip which leaves him so physically wired that he can barely stand to be touched to the near fatal rescue Turk performs near the end of the novel when he must save his planet from destruction. Through it all the relationship between the two men blossoms and grows and is so incredibly sweet and poetic that you cannot help but fall in love with them yourself! Add on the most fascinating cast of side characters ever written and quite frankly you have a brilliant sci-fi novel that rivals the likes of Asimov and Bradbury.

I really loved this book!! It was a wild romp from start to finish with a dash of love thrown in to satisfy the romantic within me! This is the first novel I have read by Angel Martinez but I assure you it will not be the last!

5 STARRY SCI-FI STARS

There is just something really special about this book, there is such a lack of M/M sci-fi which just made it even better.

I loved everything from the writing style, creative plot and all of the characters from the main characters to the lessor characters who all still had huge roles throughout this fantastic novel.

For me it was just one of those books you just didn't want to end.

When Issac Ozawa, who's been honourably discharged from the military as fighter pilot, due to a botched eye implant enhancement, finally finds work on a intergalactic trade vessel the Hermes. There ship encounters a vessel deep in dead space and proceeds to check it out.

Even though there is not a single life signature and it's predominately a prisoner transfer ship, not all prison cells can be scanned properly for signs of life. They know they need to get inside to check it out properly just incase there is someone stuck in their cell. Isaac is sent to check it out alone.

What they find inside is horrendous, a race of scavengers that slaughter every living thing in sight has attacked, and even though Issac was the one to breach the hull and send in a remote bot he knows he has to go back with the crew because he found a lone survivor just before his implant goes haywire and passes out as a migraine hits.

What they find in the cell is a lone survivor, a gigantic man from an almost mythical race of humans to some. They are known of and documented but extremely rare and rarely seen.

He is a mess, and lashes out from his ordeal, completely freaked out by what has happened to him, but when they find out where he need to be delivered it's too late.

Issac is compelled to this beautiful gentle giant and the gentle giant wants Issac, needs him to help keep him grounded from the horrors and to reality.

Once docked where he was supposed to arrive 2 weeks late, he is indeed greeted by the ENSO Military but not all is as it seems.

This is literally the beginnings of an amazing sci-fi that launches from this point to secrets and lies and a beautiful race of people who protect a hidden race and the fight to do the right thing.

It's a very fast paced, action packed ride that careens through the universe at break neck speed. It's a great read for all the sci-fi fans out there, whether or not you're into M/M.

I need more!!!!!

This was an interested sci-fi read. It's wasn't my typical read, so it was a bit strange in the beginning, but I was soon enthralled by the story. The book won't be for everyone, but I think fans of science fiction and aliens will love this. People who enjoy reading sweet romances and can read anything will love this book.

The couple were really sweet together, sometimes I was confused when Isaac would get snarky with Turk, and be all lovey dovey at the same time. If you can get past the insta-love, it will be a great story for most. I don't have an issue with insta-love - in fact I love reading books with insta-love - but for some it can be an issue. Both MC's had their issues which helped their connection. The bond they had was definitely a huge bonus to the story. The endearments were sweet, too. I swooned a bit when Turk would call Isaac "my heart". Meh. I'm just a big sap for that sort of thing.

The space jargon was an issue for me. My problem, I think, was that I don't normally read this type of book. I don't watch sci-fi shows, so things can confuse me slightly. But even when I was confused by things - especially the whole women thing - I never stopped enjoying the read. In all honesty, it was a great sci-fi experience.

Another tiny issue I had was the names... There were a lot of names at times and my poor tiny brain couldn't process all of them. Perhaps, if they had been more common names, I would have had an easier time. But some of them slipped my mind and I had to look back to try and remember who the person was... That was probably just me, though.

I really enjoyed the book, and I am glad Marc recommended it to me. For fans of the genre, it is a fabulous read.

Angel Martinez builds a fascinating world in this book.
The writing was very good and the storyline well developed.

Although the connection between Isaac and Turk was a little too much like insta-love, I was able to go with it and not question it, putting at least half of it down to Turk’s alien nature and the Corzin’s ability to recognize one’s “mate” at first sight.
The fact that they were adorable together helped, too. Turk is probably the only character that can say things like “you make my blood boil” and have me taking him seriously afterwards.
He's the classic strong hero and somehow managed to project his strength even in his most vulnerable moments.
Isaac's strong in many ways, but, having being badly hurt in the past, in the first part of the book he’s in need of a good dose of self-esteem when it comes to romantic relationships. I really liked seeing him growing more confident while he found his place at Turk’s side and within his new home and family.

This story is so alive and exciting, not one single disappointment in the entire book. With perfect execution, it ran like a mini-series in my head.
Completely satisfying in that there will be more to come!
