Class has begun!

Wanda must find a way to utilize her oddly willful magic, master an unusually radiant spell, and learn to brew her first true potions.

And though Wumble can only bark encouragement while a potion is in the cauldron, his own talents are essential when hunting for ingredients. Especially when those ingredients are guarded by powerful occorites, among other dangers.

This brand new series from bestseller Drew Hayescontinues with book two!

Again a lovely book

Wanda and Wumble are back for book #2. Having secured her place in the next alchemy class.
It is now time to actually study and see if she is good enough to join the Alchemy Guild. With classes, fellow students and a final exam to concern herself Wanda has her hands full.

Mr. Hayes always does a good job writing Slice-of-Life type of books and it shows. With a relaxed feel and a clipped pace this is a perfect afternoon to relax with a little novella of a wonderful Witch and her Dog.

12-30-2025 I have read everything Drew Hayes has ever published - at least once - and I say this with certainty... Drew Hayes is incapable of writing a bad book. I know with absolute assurance that I will love his books, no matter how improbable the concept or odd the plot.

However, I have to admit that a dog fantasy by Drew Hayes is exactly what I have been wanting and needing without even knowing it. Thank the puppy gods that he's written this book. Now write more!

Peanut butter is great. Chocolate is arguably even better. But peanut butter and chocolate together? Now we're talking.

In Roverpowered 2, we have Drew Hayes, a wildly talented, emotionally fluent author on one hand, and a ridiculously overpowered, chubby Corgi on the other. Genius author + adorable magic dog? Yes, please!

As you might have guessed, because you're smart like that, this is number two in the series, and what a series it is. I make no pretense of objectivity when it comes to either Drew Hayes or dogs, so you get what you get. And what you get this time is my love for a delightful book in what is shaping up to be a new favorite series.

This time around, Wanda and Wumble are starting their training. Things go wildly wrong, but not because Wanda isn't competent. She is. She's just both stronger and better trained than they realize. Sometimes it's hard to be better than the norm, especially when no one notices.

I love how Wanda has no idea how overpowered Wumble is and neither does anyone else. The tools they give her to handle her mana flow are meant for normal wizards, not her, but she just assumes she's doing it wrong and adapts. There's something so charming about a character who is completely oblivious about how special they are. Wanda is special, too, not just because of her bond with Wumble, but because she's smart, determined, principled, and clever. She's also just really good at this. She has more training than they know, more power than they can possibly guess, and more grit than the rest of the class put together.

Competence mixed with humility is always fascinating, and I couldn't look away right up until the ending landed, way too soon.

I support Drew Hayes' desire to make a living wage, but I wish it weren't keeping me from reading this faster. I wonder how much it would take to buy me a sneak peek into the unpublished volumes? Time to check my bank balance...

Wanda and Wumble made it, Wanda is learning how to be an alchemist, and Wumble is just perfect and loving. I loved this book, it just made me happy. I immediately pre-ordered the third book because I have to know what happens.

Good book needs editing

There is a constant stream of incorrect words. It felt like every page has issues but it may be only 3/4 of the pages that have issues. Word substitution such as "loose" for "lose", "for" for "from", "died" in lieu of "dyed". Added words like "that" struck in a sentence where it does not belong....the issues go on and on distracting from the story.
Maybe the author should read the text before release.

Rapid read

Fast, uncomplicated, and fun to read. Yet it’s missing something I can’t quite explain. I suspect the characters are just a little bit too flat. We don’t get anything but surface descriptions of them, or even of the guild Wanda is so set on joining. That and Wanda’s resistance to seeing her own advancement leave this reader with a mild sense of disappointment.

so much fun

Drew Hayes writes some of my favorite humorous fantasy books.
Some are more complex like the undead accounting series, some are just pure fun and clean wish fulfillment, like this one.
An easy to like character, in fun situations, and storytelling that flows flawlessly.
It’s all you can ask for any fun page turner of a book. Well, except that it be longer. And the next book be sooner.
Editing a good , spelling solid, main character is likable, the world hence at a bigger more complex place, but does not overwhelm us with detail at the beginning or get sidetracked with world building at the expense of the plot.
If I had to come up with some complaints , it would be that the main character is a bit simple and naïve and idealistic, but my feeling is they’re supposed to be sweet, lovable and someone we can root for so these are less of a problem and more of the point of the story.
In this book, we start to get introduced to some secondary characters and see things from their perspective , and I look forward to seeing the world from their eyes as well.
All in all a fantastic continuation of another great series by this author .

Reading this little novella was as delightful as eating a bite of baklava. The heroine, Wanda, with her familiar dog/corgi Wumble, is a careful and diligent student of alchemy. She's not rich like the talented fellow student Lenar, or highly learned like the teacher Alaroz. But she has almost a perfect memory and is exceedingly skillful at following directions. Further, through her bond with her dog, her sense of smell is highly acute, which is perfect for finding and preparing ingredients.

When preparing her first portion, she is totally absorbed in the process, and all else fades. When her product is evaluated, she finds she has highly undervalued herself--along with the teacher and the rest of the class.

You can read this little progressive fantasy in a single sitting. Enjoy your bite of sweetness.

Better than the first book

4 1/2 stars.
This adventure of Wanda and Wumble was better than the first, which means I’m going on to the 3rd. In this story, Wanda and Wumble go to alchemist school. Wanda still doesn’t know how strong she and Wumble really are. However, she manages to do quite well with her mistaken belief. Enjoyable read.

Note that this story, like the first, has a lot of sentences that are actually 2 sentences combined. They make what my teachers called run on sentences look mild. I haven’t looked at the copy rights. I feel if I did, I would find Super Powereds were written after these stories. If I’m wrong and if Drew Hayes reads reviews, I have a suggestion that was made to me at one point. If you think you can make one really long sentence, turn it into 2 sentences, instead. If your sentence has two actions, it’s probably two sentences.

Honest review - much as I love everything Drew Hayes, this book is too much narration of learning and not much action. There are two actually active scenes in the whole book and they are both much too short on balance. This feels like the world-building/exposition chapters of a much larger book.

So! If you enjoyed the first one and want to continue on with this world and characters, just know that this book is much more of an atmospheric narrative than an especially strong plot advancement.

It’s still cute. It’s still about a super-powered corgi. But it’s a lot of classroom time and Wanda being stuck in her head and not asking questions to investigate what’s going on/what might be different about her and her familiar.

By happenstance, I read Roverpowered 1 a week before 2 was released, and liked it enough that I went ahead to pick up this one. Turned out that rather than buying it, I preordered it by about 3 hours. 24 hours later and bow I'm sad that I have to wait 6 months for the next part.

There is a comforting warmth to this story in how cozy it is in its focus on a hyperfocused girl and her fluffy puppy, along with the relatively low stakes of learning her craft. I also adore the magic system used, and the almost unnecessarily thorough world-building supporting it.

My old gripe is that I ran out of pages.

Drew Hayes is a master at his craft. I've been a fan for some time now and this continuation of Wanda and Wumble's story is just further proof of my beliefs. I have no doubt that when he first conceived the idea for Roverpowered that he knew this could be another Drew Hayes level novel, like the Superpowered series. Yet he is able to tell the story in a way that YA readers and Adults will enjoy. This book pulls you right back into the world of magic, and we get a bit more excitement and adventure while Drew worldbuilds. I cannot wait to see what the next chapter in this saga brings us.

Ohhhh! Myyy! Soooooooo, very, very cute! I had forgotten about this series or how much fun it was until I noticed that book3 was out, and wow I have some catching up to do. I adored this book! Wumble the cute corgi was surprising and even more than a Powerful Beast Companion could be. In this novelette we find both Wanda and Wumble at the academy for Alchemist, taking the introductory course. Where they'd be learning their first spell and two potion recipes!
Go grab the book and enjoy! And oh yeah, I have a date with bk3 and I'm late!

The story continues!

This is a good series. The main character, Wanda, is well formed and her familiar is an unusual but delightful little critter. I which this was a bit longer, but that's because a greedy reader when I come across a fun story, and this is an entertaining read for sure. If you haven't read the first book in the series, get it and enjoy! Then dive into Rover powered 2. Then wait for 3, hopefully coming soon (hint hint)🙂

Not enough
There is a well known saying: "Leave them wanting more"
-But this thing is 148 pages. That's a 3 hour audiobook (3 hours and 21 seconds)
Yeah, I know I said that Super Powereds needed editing, but this is ridiculous.

Anyway. This quarter of a book is pretty good. I like the story and I like the characters. I was really hoping that book 2 would be longer, but I meant by more than 6 pages.

Anyway, If you like em' short and plucky this could be your new favorite thing

If you want a sweet, short slice of fantasy life story, this is the book for you. Wanda and Wumble attend alchemist school.

What I enjoyed:
* Wanda and Wumble. They are adorable.
* Other people are realizing there is something special about them.

What could have been better:
* That is the weirdest school. You have to learn to shield before you can do a potion, so lesson one is shielding. But lesson 2 is potion making even though no one has proved they can shield properly yet.

Loving this series! If you are a dog lover and like fantasy and want a quick read, this is your book. It is cute, encouraging, light, and an enjoyable listen. No one really knows how much power Whimble has, but Wanda, his owner and new mage, is starting to wonder along with the others around her. As she learns how to cast spells and brew potions, things don't add up with how well she is doing as a beginner. What will happen next in their adventure?

Great feel good story with some comedy

I absolutely adore Wanda and Wumble! They have a slightly less harrowing, but no less enjoyable, adventure in this book. It was great to follow along Wanda and Wumble’s journey and I also loved the new characters and additional world building. Best of all, I love the comedic irony from Wanda not knowing she and wumble are (r)overpowered.

Cheerful and Fun

Roverpowered is a cheery series about a wizard and her dog. Both are more powerful than they imagine, and kinder than most characters. This keeps them humble and likable, adding a lot of joy to the reading.
The volume is relatively short, and quick (maybe one week in character), but hefty enough to deliver the intended experience. I look forward to the sequels.

Another fantastic novella

Wanda and Wumble part 2 introduces us to the Alchemist Union and their introductory class. They continue to be the nice wholesome kind, unassuming duo that is a big draw of this series.

I look forward to what comes next for the pair, and hope Wanda does get Wumble a combat evaluation soon...

Wanda and Wumble: an unexpected duo

The natural talents of the duo start to shunned even more as the two strive to pass their introductory course. This second entry in the series is relatively low stakes but a fascinating delve into alchemy and the partnership and magic involved on a very unique world.

Great clean fun

As always, Drew never fails to introduce you to characters you'll grow to love. Our hero, Wanda, is just such a person.

Riding along with her for her journey is a trip filled with hope and excitement as you look forward to her and her beloved companion Wumble's progress as they carve out their place in the world.

Go read it. Your day will be better for it!

I really understood and liked the plot much better in this 2nd book.

I felt in this book we got a look into the the Rover power. And their progress to magic control.

This series is a group of short novels so very quick listens.

Will be listening to book of series 3 soon. Although it doesn't fit my style I could see binge reading the three books all back to back to back.

Fun world building

If there is such a thing as cozy fantasy, surely this fits the bill. Lighthearted and quick, it's an enjoyable read. The main protagonist seems a little lost in the world, but so do most of the other characters. It will be interesting to see what develops in future books.

Cute story. Will read book 3

Sorry, I think i said it all in the headline

Cute story. I enjoyed it.

Hopefully the main character will now get an interesting job and go on an interesting adventure? Maybe fibrin schooling but spend time adventuring outside of school too?

Very entertaining read!

It read as quite a bit shorter than the actual page count. Such is the nature of an immersive story. Now to survive the interminable wait for the next book.

Given how much I enjoy Drew Hayes books in general and this book series in particular, it's truly a sad thing that Drew has finally learned how to write books that are less than 20 hours long. 3 hours is definitely not enough.

I think I liked the first one a hair more than this one but I still had a good time with it. I'm very excited to see more of the ins and outs of how the magic in this world works! What we saw in this book was very neat.

Still enjoyable

The series continues to entertain. I'm really enjoying the students interactions, nobody pulling the noble peasant crap you mostly see. This has been great to read though the epilogues need work
