#1 "New York Times" bestselling author Johanna Lindsey's "mastery of historical romance" "(Entertainment Weekly)" takes center stage in her eagerly anticipated new novel of the aristocratic Malory family -- a passionate, witty, and high-spirited tale that provides startling new information about a prominent member of the family. After her mother died, vivacious Katey Tyler fled her dull Connecticut town, hoping to meet her relatives in England and find adventure and romance on a grand tour of Europe. She had no idea that her life-changing travels would have both in spades -- as well as danger and intrigue -- when she catches the eye of ship owner Boyd Anderson and inadvertently stumbles upon a high-stakes kidnapping.
When Sir Anthony Malory's young daughter is abducted from London's Hyde Park, her kidnapper mistakenly sends the ransom note to the home of Sir Anthony's brother, James. With James and his wife, Georgina, in the Caribbean, the demands are received by their houseguest -- Georgina's youngest brother, Boyd Anderson. Searching for the girl with Anthony, the notoriously hot-headed American sea captain fully intends to make the foolhardy villain pay. But he hardly expects to find exquisite Katey Tyler, recently a passenger on his ship, at the center of the plot!
Little does Katey realize that in having caught the attention of Boyd Anderson -- and in meeting up with the Malorys -- she's about to experience more excitement than the typical young lady encounters on a grand tour, and her life will never be dull again. A multitude of surprises await Katey, from the startling truth about her mother's early life to the lengths a man will go to win the affections of a lady who has every reason to despise him -- but who can't resist the seductive, impassioned love he has to offer her.
With the delightful humor, lovable characters, and tempestuous passions that have placed Johanna Lindsey's eight previous Malory novels among the best-loved and most widely read romantic novels of our time, "No Choice But Seduction" sweeps readers away on an irresistible adventure that is as bold and charming as the heroine at its heart.
Johanna Helen Howard was born on March 10, 1952 in Germany, where her father, Edwin Dennis Howard, a soldier in the U.S. Army was stationed. The family moved about a great deal when she was young. Her father always dreamed of retiring to Hawaii, and after he passed away in 1964 Johanna and her mother settled there to honor him.
In 1970, when she was still in school, she married Ralph Lindsey, becoming a young housewife. The marriage had three children; Alfred, Joseph and Garret, who already have made her a grandmother. After her husband's death, Johanna moved to Maine, New England, to stay near her family.
Johanna Lindsey wrote her first book, Captive Bride in 1977 "on a whim", and the book was a success. By 2006, with over 58 Million copies of her books have been sold worldwide, with translations appearing in 12 languages, Johanna Lindsey is one of the world's most popular authors of historical romance.
Johanna's books span the various eras of history, including books set in the Middle Ages, the American "Old West" and the popular Regency England-Scotland. She has even written a few sci-fi romances. By far the most popular among her books are the stories about the Malory-Anderson Family, a Regency England saga.
Johanna Lindsey died on Oct. 27, 2019 in Nashua, N.H. She was 67.
Boyd Anderson falls for Katy who is a passenger on his ship. Sailing from America to London. Next time he see her, he thinks she is involved with the kidnapping of Anthony Malory daughter. Spark fly between them in this story.
I'll preface this by saying that I'm a big Johanna Lindsey fan in general and have read nearly all of her novels. In particular, I love her Malory family series. Probably my favorite story out of all the Malorys was that of James and his now-wife Georgina. I found myself laughing out loud with that book.
But No Choice But Seduction doesn't fall into that category, unfortunately. In this story, Lindsey chronicles the romance of Boyd Anderson (Georgina's brother and James's brother-in-law) and Katey Tyler. Katey is on a mission to see the world after being reared in a tiny Connecticut town as the youngest resident. Her childhood was rather boring, but her mother recently died, and upon her mother's death, Katey inherited a veritable fortune which could be attributed to Adeline's refusal to touch the money she inherited upon her father's death. Confused yet? Don't worry. It gets worse.
In order to entertain herself, Katey tells "stories." They're really white lies meant to embellish and exaggerate to spice up tiny Gardner's residents' lives. But Katey gladly says goodbye to Gardner when she takes over her newfound fortune and sails for England across the Atlantic. It just so happens that she took passage on Boyd Anderson's ship, The Oceanus.
Boyd is nearly immediately head over heels for Katey while she concocts another embellishment by telling him she's married. So Boyd (being the gentleman he is) stays away from her. But his lust for Katey never truly goes away.
Katey finds herself in a predicament when she rescues Anthony Malory's daughter, Judith, and finds herself thrown into jail. Boyd is indirectly the cause of this, but Katey decides he's entirely responsible and will not let go of her grudge. The Malorys feel indebted to Katey for rescuing Judith and take her in as a newfound family friend. When Boyd asks what he can do to obtain her forgiveness, she irrationally tells him that he must rent his ship out to her so that she can travel the world. Boyd agrees but only if he sails with her since the ship never sails without him. Katey reluctantly agrees.
Along the voyage, Boyd manages to seduce Katey, and the romance finally begins to take shape about halfway through the novel. Lindsey had too many coincidences...one includes how taken Judith was with Katey and then turns out to be her sister. Yes, that's right: Anthony Malory suddenly has a long lost daughter in Katey. Apparently, Anthony had an affair with Adeline in his rakehell days but had intended to marry her. Before he could propose, Adeline discovered she was pregnant, left the country, and then proceeded to have the child and raise her with another man she'd married. Of course, Anthony didn't know any of this.
This novel from Lindsey lacked the humor, steaminess, and sexiness of previous novels. James and Anthony Malory occasionally provide some entertainment as they throw barbs or punches at one another, but for the most part, I found Katey annoying and unlikeable. Her constant childish tendency to hold a grudge and her refusal to be logical at any point in time made her unapproachable as a character. And Boyd's refusal to "bother" Katey with his feelings was annoying as well. He came off as wimpy and, well, not too bright at times.
While I'm glad I read the book if for nothing other than another Malory happily ever after, I wouldn't choose it to read again. It simply isn't worth a second read.

Books I own. Mad About Series Challenge 2024, HRBC. Favourite Book Cover. HR Trope: Regency Romance, RomCom, Extended Family & Friends, Enemies to Lovers.
MC’s h Katey Tyler 23, orphan heiress from Connecticut, H Boyd Anderson, owns the Oceanus, youngest brother of Georgina Malory. Katey came to England to meet her mother’s family on the Oceanus Boyd’s ship. He was smitten but she told him she was married. They meet again but he thinks she is a kidnapper instead of a rescuer. She holds a grudge meanwhile thinking he is the best looking man she’s ever met. They have a love hate relationship. Lots of zany incidents and witty repartee. The Malory’s love Katey and treat her like family as she rescued Judith, Anthony’s daughter from kidnappers. Boyd has been in the doghouse since.
Review I liked:No Choice But Seduction was such a good book. Growing up in a small, boring town Katey became a woman with a big imagination who tended to exaggerate her tales in order to make her stories more exciting. After her mother died she decided to travel around the world and experience a big adventure. She thought that by traveling the world she would live a more exciting life. She didn’t know that her journey would end up being her biggest adventure yet. She wins the eyes of Boyd Anderson who tries over and over again to seduce her. He is determined to win her over despite his error in accusing Katey of being Judith Malory’s kidnapper! Yet he’ll stop at nothing, even rent out his ship so that Katey can tour the world, even though he gets seasick by living at sea! He was determined to get Katey to marry him but she wasn’t ready to put her adventure aside. She still wanted to travel the world and she knew marriage would end her journey!
I love how Anthony Malory played a big role in this book. The twist in the story totally took me by surprise. He finds out that Katey is his daughter and together Katey and Anthony find out the truth of why Katey’s mother ran away when she was pregnant with her. Anthony never knew he had a daughter and welcomed Katey with open arms. It was such an emotional time for him. Katey also meets her mothers’ mother, who she thought disowned her mother years ago and is happy to also be welcomed with open arms. Katey, who grew up quite lonely, was so happy to be welcomed into the Malory family and welcomed by her grandmother. Not only did she find love but her dream of having a big family came true.
I really liked Boyd and I loved the little scheme where he pretended to have saved Katey after she “supposedly” fell off the side of the boat. They were alone together on a tiny island and the whole time Boyd set that up so that he could get to know Katy better and “court” her properly. Too bad it backfired and after Katey found out the truth she was so angry with Boyd. It wasn’t until everything about her mothers past came out in the open where she was able to finally agree to marry Boyd. She didn’t want to make the same mistakes that her mother made. Never saying what’s on your mind could change your life in so many ways! Great Book! I’m hoping there are more books to follow in this series!
Well, I finished the book last night and I still hold my belief that Johanna Lindsey's writing is not as good as it has been in the past. The story seemed rushed and the romance between the two characters was pushed instead of being allowed to develop on its own. I was really hoping this book would demonstrate the type of writing that Lindsey is well known for from her previous novels, but that wasn't the case. I hate to say this, but if this is an example of what Lindsey is has become, I would rather she stop writing altogether. I want to remember her for the heartfelt, powerful novels she has written in the past, not for the tripe she is writing these days.
Johanna always brings the drama and I love it! So much drama in this one! A kidnapping, an independent woman refusing to marry a man, pirates and more! Boyd falls in lust with Katie at first sight. Katie does not feel the same. But then fate steps in and all the drama happens.
3-3.5 stars for this one in the series in comparison to the others of the series.. I'll probably never not like anything I find of Johanna Lindsey's and I really didn't want to decrease my stars from the original 4 stars I gave it but really in comparison to other works of Johanna's I feel like 3 stars is a pretty apt rating. I know that almost every one of the books in this series as well as others of this author's have events that are super convenient. The author's writing is great so you don't really get distracted by the "convenience" in them.. usually. I've read this book numerous times over the years and never noticed how the plot points of this do come across a little overboard on the convenience factors. I realize that the in time period written about the world was "smaller" but the chances of a random individual running into family of the Mallory's and then running into a plot to abduct even more of the same family, and then realizes other family she came to search for were actually neighbors and then.. realizes she is closer to the Mallory's than first realized. Yea its all a little too convenient.
That being said while it becomes glaringly obvious the author is really reaching to put this together.. I still like the book and enjoyed my reread. I do feel like our MC's in this Katie, and Boyd, have great chemistry to start it off. I also like that Boyd doesn't "put up a fight" like the other Anderson brothers which makes this novel unique in the Anderson's stories. Granted when Boyd finds Katie with his recently kidnapped niece by marriage and jumps to all kinds of conclusions that she is the kidnapper everything goes straight to the crapper lol. My favorite part in the whole book is when Anthony and James are giving Boyd all kinds of advice on seducing Katie to get over her anger at him for trying to drag her off to jail. If you read the story you will realize why this is soooo funny.
This series is rapidly approaching its end which saddens me so much knowing there will never be any new Mallory's to love. Still really enjoying my reread though.
Keluarga Malory memang gak ada dua nya... Bikin ngakak mulu..
Nvl ini giliran putra bungsu keluarga Anderson, Boyd yg jd hero. Yup, dia kakak Georgie, adik ipar James Malory. Dan tentu saja, dia adik Warren yg menikah dgn Amy Malory-putri bungsu Edward Malory. .
Boyd satu2nya putra keluarga Anderson yg memiliki kapal tp tidak menjadi kapten kapalnya sendiri. Dia punya alesan nya tentu saja-yg gw, Katey, James n Tony anggap lucu.. ROTFL!
Boyd lgsung suka pas pertama kali dia liat Katey. Walopun dia agak ragu jg. what if she was only sweet on the eyes? itu yg ada di benak Boyd pas dia liat wajah cantik Katey.. Yg menurut gw manusiawi bgt tu si Boyd. So, Katey Tyler kah calon istri yg di damba Boyd? Seru-nya lg Katey mengaku dia sudah menikah dgn pria lain!
Dan, uh oh. Katey trnyata punya rahasia yg dia sendiri jg gak tau apa... Rahasia yg melibatkan keluarga besar Malory.
Keluarga Malory tanpa skandal bagaikan romance tanpa happy ending. XD XD
Gw ngakak guling2 tiap James n Tony nampak. Waktu Tony ngegodain James ttg ipar2 barbar dia. N tentang btapa beruntung nya dia bukan James,, di bagian ini gw ngakak mulu soalnya brkat spoiler2 gw udah tau 'rahasia Katey'
Trus dialog2 Boyd n James yg bikin gw mukul2 meja pas bc: "It's bad enough i have to fight Katey tooth and nail, as it were, to get her to admit she loves me, but i have to fight the Malorys too?" "I've got news for you, Yank. We ain't admitting we love you-ever!" Boyd rolled his eyes.
Pengen bgt d punya paman2 gokil ky James n tony..
Boyd n gw ampe ngakak. Hehehe
gw gak mau ni Malory saga tamat. Msh pengen bc crita ttg anak2 n cucu2 mrka. Untungnya JL mau release Malory 10 taon ini.. Can't wait ^^
I like Linsey's old writing style much better. it seemed to me that this book didn't have the passion, humor, or danger that previous Mallory novels had. It felt like I was reading a book written to satisfy a publisher and not to entertain the reader.
Okay, I'm cheating here, and I don't like them all equally, but I do love the Mallory's. They're all funny. I especially liked Love Only Once (the first book), Gentle Rogue (my favorite), and The Magic of You (where the heroine chases the hero shamelessly).
Yes, I admit it, I am reading these books out of order, but I don't care. I am reading them as they arrive on my doorstep. Despite having a considerable collection of Johanna Lindsey books, I had stopped buying them by the mid-noughties, so a lot of the newer novels released up until her death in 2019 had passed me by. Especially the later additions to the Malory-Anderson series.
So...what did I think of Katey and Boyd's story? Where do I start?
Having already read the last two books in the series, (Stormy Persuasion and Beautiful Tempest) I wasn't expecting much, if I am honest. And because of that, I wasn't disappointed.
What I got was something that was a little bit better than average, but not by much.
As always with these novels, I have grown to realise that none of the later books will ever live up to the earlier instalments. Gone are the days of James, Anthony and even Nick...these were real rogues, the rakes who were reformed by their lady loves.
Boyd, being the youngest Anderson brother, was one I immediately thought (in Gentle Rogue) could be a great hero. But instead he's turned into a man who sails but hates it, who proposes to a woman because he wants to sleep with her and then admits (yes, admits) that he could have taken her (without consent) when she was drunk and unaware in her bed! WTAH Johanna Lindsey?
Am I going to sit here and act all Missish and as though I haven't read plenty of Lindsey novels where this sort of thing takes place? No. However, this is also something that she has previously declared a decidedly ungentlemanly thing and other characters have been reviled for doing it. So to have our apparent Hero admit he could have done it and contemplated doing it? Nope. I just don't like it!
Katey had the potential to be a great heroine, but her behaviour frustrated me. She is very much in charge of her own destiny, and like Judith and Jack, knows her mind and what she wants...but then she changes her mind. Fine. Change your mind, I don't care. But stop telling Boyd that you're married one minute and not the next!
The Malory twist could have been incredible, but by the point it came about I already knew (partly because I read the books out of order and partly because it was pretty obvious)...and I didn't care!
I think that I should have just stuck with the earlier books, this felt too much like it was trying to be a book written by someone else, an author with a lot less historical romance clout than Lindsey has always had in my head.
Overall, definitely not the sort of book I wanted, and a bit of a disappointment overall. Boyd was a great character in the earlier books, but grew to be someone with a lot less elan in this, his actual story!

Katey Tyler, american, datang ke inggris untuk mengantarkan 2 orang anak ke keluarganya bersama grace, pelayannya. katey ingin menjelajah dunia, impian yg tidak lumrah untuk seorang gadis. katey naik kapal milik boyd anderson, kakak laki2 george. boyd tertarik pada katey tapi ketika tau katey sudah menikah & punya anak boyd langsung mundur padahal pssssttttt katey bohong biar boyd mundur.
sampai di inggris, boyd langsung kerumah georgina & mendapati rumah kosong & boyd menemukan surat dari penculik putri georgina & james tapi begitu james mencari jack eh jack ada dikamarnya jadi pasti yg diculik judith, putri anthony & roslyn.
jadilah anthony dibantu boyd & jeremy mencari keberadaan penculik yg membawa judith. bertemu sihhhhh, judith langsung disahut jeremy & dibawa pulang ke london, tinggalah boyd bersama orang yg "dikira" penculik judith. kagetlah boyd karna itu adl katey yg selama bbrp hari terakhir menghias mimpi2nya. apes deh buat katey, boyd mana mo dengar penjelasannya jadilah dia dituduh sbg penculik & dibawa paksa ke london. belum kelar apesnya katey berhasil melarikan diri dari boyd eh malah dijebloskan ke penjara bersama grace. wakakakakakaka gondok abis si katey.
waktu masalah menjadi jelas. katey diundang makan malam bersama seluruh keluarga malory disitu jelas katey bertemu boyd. katey yg tadinya senang2 saja begitu ketemu boyd langsung judesnya keluar. dia menolak boyd mentah2 ^o^ kapok deh boyd. untuk pertama kalinya dia ditolak mentah2 oleh seorang wanita.

About the Series: This is your typical HR series. Wealthy & powerful English nobility at its finest; but this is not your typical family. Meet the Malorys. A beautiful, strong, determined, humorous & overall very enjoyable family. Beautiful people finding beautiful soul-mates sometimes quite begrudgingly. This family is full of stubborn & driven people that are lovely & hilarious. The men are sexy, strong, rake type alpha males; who are fun, carefree, witty & quite determined to avoid marriage. The women are extraordinary beauties full of class & good breeding; with a secret mischievous & willful side that makes them stubborn, clever, funny, outgoing, driven & irresistible to the male population. I love that each book has it's own feel & dynamic. Each family member is just different enough that their story offers something new to the series. Also, I LOVE that each additional book still includes the previous couples from the family, so that by the end of the series we should be enjoying books full of fun & loving Malorys that we have all come to thoroughly love! It's like I get to continue to read about their lives long after their actual book is done.
About this Book: This is a good book. Not as good as the other Malory book but still okay. I like Boyd & feel sorry for him. He becomes a little too "puppy dog" for my taste but is still very sweet & endearing. I feel sorry for him most of the book because Katey is cruel, unforgiving, stubborn & a little self centered; as she is only concerned with her own pains & desires. At the very end, there is a touch of the sweet love story that I wish could have been offered more of in the book. I loved having the old Malorys but the plot twist hurt my feelings & in a way it felt like a slap in the face to the true love I felt Anthony had for Ros and undermines their love story, which I did not like at all. So in the end, this story even falls after Drew's book for me on my list of my beloved Malory series. However, I do welcome one more to the family.
P.S. To new Readers of the Malory series, don't start here or with Drew's story. They do not give you the true magic of the Malory series or Ms Lindsey's ability to write a love story. These 2 books are for already established Malory series lovers.
This wasn't one of the better Johanna Lindsey novels and I wish the ending had come sooner and lasted longer. Long enough to see how their lives turned out. Seeing the family rivalry and hidden love between Anthony and James was what made this book exciting for me. The beach scene was good also but that is about all that made it worth reading. Again, as I've said before, it is still necessary to read them all to keep up with the Malory and Anderson families and how they get where they are.
Another malory novel!!! I still love anthony and james. My God, what would Lindsey do without those two to give everything some badly needed spice. I mean, the romance did just not work for me. It felt rushed.
Anyway, I still got my mind blown and had tear streaks down my face after I finished reading. Not from sadness or anything, but from laughing too much. Lols.
Meine Meinung - kleine Zusammenfassung d.
