For the small size of this volume, it contains a lot of useful recipes for jar gifts. My biggest criticism is the lack of photographs. Most people should be able to find something in each category they might enjoy creating for someone on their gift list.
Gifts in Jars: Recipes for Easy, Delicious, Inexpensive DIY Gifts in Jars (Jar Recipes, Jar Gifts, Homemade Gifts) Great ideas for gift giving for any occasion. Lots of tips for selecting the right size container and what items to put in it and on the outside as well. Each recipe includes the list of ingredients to include in the jar along with instructions on how to make it with other items from your kitchen. Really great recipes and easy to make: breads, muffins, etc. Love the idea of soup mixes! Few pictures and no nutritional information but you should be able to substitute some ingredients for a healthier choice. A KEEPER.
I got this one around Christmas time when my kids were looking for ways to make home made gifts for the teacher and aides. Let me tell you, there was some yummy sounding jar gifts in this book. If I had actually had the time, we probably could have thrown together a few. Maybe next year though.
This "how to" guide is easy to follow and understand. I love the variety of ideas and that they can really be made, used, and appreciated. I wasn't a fan of the formatting of the book because the information ran together and I had to take the time to separate the directions and details in my mind instead of just focusing on the "recipes". I think the writer could have used different sized fonts and spacing to a better advantage to make this guide a little more user friendly. It also would have been nice if each jar started on a new page. I would have liked a picture of the completed jar with each recipe just to have a visual, but I understood the directions.
Overall, though, this is a great idea book for gift jars. As a teacher, I have received several jars as gifts and loved every one of them! I liked the different jars this book presented and there is truly something in here for everyone! I can't wait to start making some of these for Christmas gifts!
Nice variety of mixes to make all sorts of food-types of gifts as well as some personal care items. I’ve got a number of Gift in a Jar books, but this is the first in my collection that aren’t limited to one food type, such as cookie or cake mix.
You’re given what size container to use, the items and order they should be added, and what instructions should be attached to the jar so the gift recipient can make the recipe. There are definitely some typos, but they’re pretty easy to spot and figure out what was meant. The type is really small on my Kindle, but that can be adjusted.
I’m excited to put some of these together to give as gifts, and some drink and spice mixes that I want for myself.
Amended: There are not just typos but I’ve found that quite of few of the instructions are incomplete or things that just don’t make sense. Common sense should get you through most of it, but you might want to try making something yourself before gifting it to another.
This is, by far, one of the best free books I've gotten on Amazon. While I love pictures with cooking and DIY books, the number of recipes and varieties make it easy to overlook. There are recipes for breakfast, dinners, snacks, beverages and more! These are perfect for a hostess gift, for teachers, and college students. I'm going to make some of these for my daughter who is away at University. I have a feeling we will make some for us as well! These are easy enough for kids to help. I'm really happy with this gem, can't wait to make them! I will update my review, but felt this deserved a review now for those looking for handmade gift!
As the holiday season approaches, I look for unusual gifts that can be made ahead for those unexpected house guests and friends. Margaret has recipes for baked goods, pretzels, bath products, spaghetti sauces and well, you NAME it! There are also really nice color pictures of ideas for decorating your jars. The ideas included can be used by the family as they prepare gifts for the holidays. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
There are some great ideas in here, but the book suffers for not having seen an editor, or at least a proof reader. An example is 2 tablespoons cup dried parsley. There are some recipes that list cup measurements that probably should be tablespoons. The text is occasionally two different sizes in the same paragraph. If you make the dog biscuit recipe, omit the garlic powder. Garlic causes anemia in dogs.
I was surprised at the variety of ideas for gifts in this book using jars. The recipes look great. There are clear instructions for assembling and layering the ingredients in the jar, as well as what to put on the attached tag. Next year, I will be making these with my daughters for gifts at Christmas.
enjoyed the ideas to deco the jars. love the recipes ... all of them. also enjoy that my granddaughter will be able to help. (she loves to make gifts for people)
