This is a book about inspiration and bringing joy back into the kitchen.
James Trevor "Jamie" Oliver, sometimes known as The Naked Chef, is an English chef and media personality well known for his growing list of food-focused television shows, his more recent roles in campaigning against the use of processed foods in national schools, and his campaign to change unhealthy diets and poor cooking habits for the better across the United Kingdom.
Excellent ideas for simple and easy meals, for midweek meals, weekends, including one-pan dinners and delicious deserts. There are 7 no-cook pasta sauces that are amazing and super fast to prepare. I have tried 4 recipes and they were all delicious, including “the better bolognese” which uses lentils and baby pork ribs. There are plenty of meatless recipes and crowd pleasing ones. Every recipe has its own picture and its nutritional value.
With over 30 Jamie Oliver cookbooks already published, this one holds the same exuberance for cooking as all the prior ones do and is intended as an accompaniment to his cooking programme of the same name. That said, having read many of these prior cookbooks this newest one felt a bit redundant and recycled.
Recipes are relatively quick to make and good for less experienced cooks. The production quality of the book is excellent with a nice design and tasteful photos of all the dishes. While the author does mention tools at the start, a blender is listed as a "nice to have" but is called for in a lot of the dishes. And not having a blender in these cases will impact the quality of the dish significantly. Listing the nutritional info and calories for each dish at the bottom of the page is a nice touch and I wish more cookbooks included it.
Thank you to the publisher for sending a gifted copy of this book my way in exchange for an honest review. There were so many things I loved about this book, and a few things I would have changed. Easy week night meal ideas? Yes, this book has it and I was so excited to see that! We are a busy family, always on the go. That made this book a great fit for us. Some standouts for us included the Speedy microwave gnocchi, and beet & ricotta pasta. Both yummy and simple to make. The book also includes some more intensive recipes designated for the weekend. The design of the book wasn’t my favorite, and I wish it would have had a more homey/cozy feel to it, but the actual content of the book was great and we can’t wait to try all of the remaining recipes! Also to note: the Emergency Kids Pizza recipe is a lifesaver!
Another great cookbook by Jamie Oliver, I think its his 28th, one that uses very simple ingredients to make "fast and simple" food. The recipes are divided into easy categories: Midweek Meals; Weekend Wins; One-pan Dinners; Pantry Love and Delicious desserts. As well there are sections such as '7 no-cook pasta sauces" and "Versatile Cornbread" and "Bigging Up Beans". This cook book is not meat free, but certainly provides lots of healthy vegetarians dishes. This cookbook "wants to inspire a more sustainable way of eating, so 65% of the recipes are either meat-free or meat reduced." Also each recipe includes nutritional information.
I would make 90% of the recipes in this book and there are a few that could possibly become favourites...ie Creamy Chicken and Chive Pie, which uses puff pastry, and Roasted Veg with Camembert Fondue which looks delicious.
The cookbook was well done and easy to follow. I appreciate Jamie’s passion for food and his dedication to helping others eat healthy. Loved the photos, I hate it when there aren’t pictures of the recipes, especially when you’re not quite sure how the finished dish should look.
Jamie Oliver writes good books. This one is no exception! He divides the book into midweek meals; weekend wins; trusty traybakes; cupboard love and perfect puds. It starts off with a shedload of recipes for pasta and sauces, a couple of which I've already made and they were very tasty I have to say! My take out moment was the raiding the pantry recipe for fishcakes, loved it!! All you needed was one of those tins of potatoes you always buy for a "just in case" moment when nothing useful is in the fridge, and a tin of tuna in spring water, check, followed by a tin of sweetcorn, also check, little bit of mustard, grated cheese and some bits of bread. It wasn't faffy to make and it did taste really good! Am definitely raiding the pantry to make this again. In fact by my reckoning I can make it 3 more times before I need a trip to Aldi.
Then along came the crispy broccoli panzanella, just some broccoli heads, some cheese, red onion, red chilli, tomatoes, olives and basil and oh garlic bread from the freezer. This is cooked in the oven for just over half an hour and another hit with the family.
I liked the chapter layout, nice big print as there aren't a lot of ingredients needed for all the recipes, I liked the colour pictures, nothing sells a book to me like colour pictures, I do like to see what it's supposed to look like as opposed what it actually ends up looking like. And with Jamie my meals seem to come out looking very closely to what they look like when he's made them. A definite win win for me!!
Leckere Rezeptbilder. Ausführliches Rezeptregister. ✅ Check . Soweit so gut. 😄
I've always liked Jamie Oliver but I didn't love this cookbook. It's organized into normal cookbook categories - midweek meals, weekend wins, one pan dinners, pantry love, and delicious desserts. But within these chapters the recipes still felt kind of random or oddly organized. I also felt like the pictures of Jamie in the cookbook were weird - did he see these and approve them? The pictures of the food were great and a lot of the recipes did seem pretty easy to make. I just didn't find much that I wanted to try from this one.
The man likes his beans, all kinds. He likes his olives, no thank you, and he likes his canned anchovies...also no thank you. But I did find a few recipes to maybe try, so I guess there is that.
Food pictures were great, some of the recipes pretty much equate to cooking chicken and adding sauce out of a bottle, but whatever. All in all it was okay but I don't think the book is worth buying and not all the ingredients are available where I live, but most were.
This book is healthy & it will fire up your creativity in the kitchen. With a food processor, a blender & a few simple ingredients, you can easily replicate Jamie Oliver’s recipes. The colors, the lettering & photos give clean, contemporary & minimalistic vibes. There is a photo for every recipe, which is my personal preference.
This is a great book to give you ideas for those days when the takeaways are tempting and you don’t have energy or many ingredients. The idea is to help you eat better, simply. Very useful and tasty 😋
Jamie Oliver is a such a treasure and I appreciate his recipes in their attempt to create quick and nutritious meals for the entire family. There are excellent tips in here on creating batch meals and sauces that can be frozen for use later and/or extended across multiple dishes.
so many good recipes!! and finally, a cookbook that actually leans into easy recipes for a weeknight when work was too much and your debating whether to doordash or cook.
another well made cookbook - i can see myself making a lot of these recipes!
These recipes aren’t too complicated and are presented in typical Jamie style to encourage people to cook healthy food at home. I didn’t find any new recipes to try but, as always, it’s worth a look.
I like this new trend of grouping recipes by time they take. Simple recipes here, although some have a long list of ingredients. Beautiful photography too.
One of Jamie’s best. I liked the chapter approach, taking an ingredient and offering 5-8 dishes with that ingredient. Well done, use, quick and delicious.
A fun cookbook night. Funny how we all had issues that called for box sizes we don’t have or recipes calling for percentage of a box instead of our measuring system.
I really enjoyed this Cookbook by Jamie Oliver, really focusing on food that could be prepared simply (and more important to me, quickly) while still packing in a ton of flavor. I have to admit, I've always looked at Oliver rather cynically, loving his enthusiasm and true passion but questioning just how good some of the recipes he makes actually are (and also pondering how reasonable it is to make some of them so fast) but to be completely frank, this book has made me more of a believer, and I look forward to incorporating some of these ideas into future meal plans. From his traybakes to a few of hid desserts (I'm looking at you Banofee Fro-Yo Tart) there's a lot to check out.
(For those interested, he also has a TV show titled after the book that showcases a ton of the recipes contained therein, if you want to see it done before trying yourself. I found the show on Pluto TV but I am sure there are other places as well.)
