I have to admit that when I picked up this book, I thought that I would not be impressed by a comedian who can write poetry. Well, I was shocked as I kept my eyes glued to each page. This book is fantastic and is bound to crack anyone up. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy creates an entire neighborhood filled with fun, friends, and more. The brief poems that can be read by primary age children cover familiar topics, such as bubble baths and balloons on the escape. The fun illustrations simply add to the collection of poems and stories found within this text.

I liked this particular book because I thought that the the rhymes are simple and easy to remember. While they are a challenge for younger children, it will still grant them with a sense of mastery when done memorizing them. I am currently reading one poem a day to my class for exposure. This collection of poetry is great for my students who are all over the spectrum with comprehension right now. I want everyone to appreciate the humor behind his writing, and I think the words are simple enough for all of them to fully grasp. Jeff Foxworthy may have tried something new with his poetry book, but it sure was a success.

Cute! My 6yo did really well reading this out loud. The rhymes are well-written and it was easy for him to keep the cadence.

Dirt on my shirt is a cute and humorous book about a variety of poems that kids are sure to enjoy. Jeff Foxworthy does an excellent job portraying funny events throughout the story. I love how the poems and the pictures are simple but yet portray and amazing imagine of both the text and pictures and are easy to follow along. Each poem is different but it all seems to tie with the title, anything these do are sure to get dirt on their shirts. I like how its easy to follow along and its sure enough to make anyone smile with the silliness.

Text-to-Teaching Connection: This collection of poems would be a great addition to a poem unit in the classroom. The teacher can read through several of the poems. The students can then choose to write their own poems about their family or their pets. They can also draw an illustration to go along with their poems. This collection of poems focuses around family, animals, and friends. The students can use ideas from the collection to write their own poems. This would be a great introduction to poetry for young children.

Dirt on My Shirt is a primary book that is for readers five to eight years old. It is a book of poetry. The book has a varied selection of poetry for children to enjoy. The poetry deals with family and some other things in life that interest children. I gave the book 4 stars because I feel that is would be a very enjoyable book for children to read. It is an easy read for children. The book is a level 2 reading book which means that the book has engaging stories, longer sentences and language play for developing readers. The book is also filled with a variety of colored pictures that help with the illustration of the book. This book would be appealing to young readers because it deals with family and life issues as I stated earlier. If I wanted to introduce the children in a classroom to poetry this is one of the books I would use. I am not a fan of reading poetry books but I actually enjoyed this one. It's interesting and holds the readers interest. The wording is simple and it's easily understood. Reading any type of book should be a wonderful experience and one that would make the child want to read more. I feel Dirt on My shirt does exactly that.

I enjoyed reading this book of poems, they were funny and made me smile. I liked how the illustrator drew the pictures, they are very well done and went perfectly with the poems. They were simple poems, but any child would like to hear them and maybe even inspire the child to think of one on their own. There were poems about animals and people and things to do, my favorite poem was "What Do You See?". I like this one because it is about looking closer at what is around you and seeing all the animals and plants found in nature. This poem also encourages the reader to go outside and look for everything in the poem.

I chose this book because it was written by Jeff Foxworthy. I thought this book would be cute and funny, which it was. I enjoyed the illustrations, they fit the simple story on each page. I think that students would enjoy this poetry book because the illustrations were good and the text was simple. I would have this book in my classroom library and would potentially use this in a poetry lesson, to make the students more interested in the topic.

This isn't a "story," per se, but a collection of poems of observation. It could be effective as a bedtime storybook (jump from poem to poem, or re-read favorite ones on different nights) or classroom show-and-read (some pictures are quite small, with multiple poems per page, and a little hard to see from a distance). Could be funny, I suppose; I am a fair bit older than its intended audience, I also suppose.

I didn't realize that Jeff Foxworthy wrote children's literature. I've always known him for his comedy. I thought this was cool little book. There were multiple short peons throughout the writing. Poems over animals, getting dirty, family members, etc. It was a fun and easy read for a book that is mainly children's poetry.

I loved this book because it's one book but there are stories and poems within it. It's great for children in school but I also brought it home to read to my 3 year old. She loved it, and giggled. I love the poetry within the book and the pictures were creative and fun! I would definitaly recommend this book and get it for my future classroom!

This book is for 4-7-year-olds. It is a collection of poems about children doing different things, mostly in nature or in their house. There are also some poems about uncles and grandparents. This is probably a book I would have for free choice reading in my classroom. A useful thing about this book is that children will experience reading rhymes.

This book is fun to read. It follows a young boys' thoughts throughout the day as different situations occur in poetry form. The poems are well written, and the illustrations are simple but fun to look at. I would read this book and then ask students to use a story from their own life and create a poem with it!

Light-hearted and very short poems. My five-year-old daughter wanted me to read every poem in one sitting. A pretty rare thing for poetry in our house.
