Mending Heartstrings

Rate this book
Kane’s a country singer who’s tangled with too many deceitful women. He’s learned his lesson: girls are for flirting and fun; emotions are for his music. But after spending a night with an earnest woman unlike any he’s known, he can’t force her out of his mind. So he goes in search of the woman he knows only as “Elle.”

On her last night in Nashville, the staunchly pragmatic Sabella found herself in a situation more suited to a romance novel than reality. Swept away, she ignored her rigidly self-imposed rules, succumbing to the fantasy just this once. But she knows real-world relationships have nothing in common with their fictionalized portrayals. When Kane unexpectedly shows up at her Portland apartment, she must choose between the practical truths she has learned and the desire for a passionate love she has struggled to suppress.

Despite the distance, Kane’s tour schedule, and their meddling friends, both are drawn to the chance for a romance neither quite believes is possible.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this one bit. In fact, I think I'm in love with Mending Heartstrings. Like, legit love. I knew once I had seen the blurb that this story would be the one for me. Don't ask me how I know, I just do. From the very first page, I melted. Kane didn't really do anything special, other than the fact he's a musician and I have a thing for those... Not that I've actually ever dated one, but you get the gist.

From that first meeting between Kane and Elle, hell, there was NO going back. They instantly had that click; that instant attraction. It wasn't like some books where they want to jump in the sack right away. It was more real than anything. These two beautiful people want nothing more to be together but life and certain feelings may end up keeping them apart. What's stopping them? Well, I guess right now, you want to know. Good! That means you can pick the book up and see for yourself how wonderful the story is.

Can the two overcome fears to be together?

Kane and Elle are a great example of love and what love means. It isn't always easy, but it's so worth it. I absolutely adored the book's depth; it was at times light and other times serious. I think a good balance in books is always good to have. The only problem I would have with the book was the fact that it seemed a little bit too rushed in the end for me. Other than that, I think it was faultless. Do I want more Kane and Elle? Hell yes, I do! I think readers will enjoy this heartfelt story full of hope, music, and two loving characters that don't give up.

Book provided in exchange for honest review.

This isn't the typical romance story in which two people meet, eyef*ck each other for 30 pages, manage to have relations for 182 pages, endure some type of angst for 5 pages then bang each other into the land of Happily Ever After.

This is a romance in which both people are interested in each other, but both have issues when it comes to dealing with people and relationships. This story seemed to be more realistic in terms of how Elle and Kane were with each other, and by that I mean that instead of opening up and being all flowery and sickeningly sweet with each other, they were all closed off with their feelings and did more mentally pushing each other away.

The secondary characters were pretty entertaining, Elle's best friend Gina, and Bobby, a member of Kane's band; they definitely brought some humor to the story. The story moved along at an overall good pace, although it did start off a bit slow for me, and for some reason the ending seemed to be rushed, but overall this is a good story that I'm glad I got a chance to read.

Mending Heartstrings by Aria Glazki is a sweet romance novel that exceeded my expectations. Romance is not one of my favorite genres, no murder or blood and guts massacres, but some of the ugly things in life does make this read as if it could be happening to a friend of mine…or yours.

Ordinary girl meets country singer.

Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to take a road trip with your very own hottie?

She’ll be traveling with Kane, Bobby, Steve…and Mitch.

Well, Sabella does. She is not your drop dead gorgeous with a figure to die for kind of gal. She is more like the girl next door and I want so much for her not to get in over her head and have her heart broken.

I love her friend, Gina. Feeling down, Gina will raise you up. I used to have a friend that reminds me so much of Gina and without her in the world the sun seems to have dimmed a little. Gina is a vibrant and colorful character, full of love and life. She only sees the upside of life, until…

I kept thinking, how can I fall in love with a novel that is all about romance, no murder, no horror, you know, those ugly things in “life”. Well the ugly does rear its head and it comes in human form.

I am surprised and delighted by how much I enjoyed Mending Heartstrings. The romance was real, with all the ups and downs that make us know we are alive and in love.

I received a copy of Mending Heartstrings by Aria Glazki in return for an honest review.

I think the main things I like so much about this one is that there aren't TOO many misunderstandings or drama. There are a couple of places where their hangups got the better of them but they are handled realistically and well. I saw a lot of places where Glazki could have created even more trouble for Kane and Sabella but instead it is a sweet piece about people trying to get to know each other, fall in love and find a way to be together.

There's also a good opportunity for more great stories with Kane's bandmates (& Ella's friend) and I'm looking forward to them getting their own HEA. I really like seeing the friendship that had developed between the three guys and a glimpse at how they are together on the stage & on the road.

Sometimes you are in the mood for a lot of turmoil and sometimes you are in the mood for something a little more relaxed - this definitely falls into that second category. The characters are down to earth, with real life (well, as real life as you can get when one of you is a recording artist) issues and interactions. You can totally put yourself in their shoes.

Since May 3, I have read 3 romances (and a partial 4th, although it was more literary fiction than straight romance). I have a good excuse, though. The 1st 2, A Taste of Sugar (Marina Adair) and Reckless in Love (Jennifer Skully and Bella Andre), are both tied to the RBC. This 3rd one, though, has a slightly different connection. Aria Glazki, the author of Mending Heartstrings, is coming to Recycle Books next Sunday, the 17th, to sign books. I thought it would be a good idea if I read it before her appearance. And because I'm a manly man, I read this one unemotionally and without any connection to the characters whatsoever...yeah, right.

Okay, I really liked these characters and connected to them immediately. In fact, I got a few chills and smiled a bunch right away. And there are tons of tears and lots of smiles all though the book Lest you think I am part woman, let me remind you that I had triple bypass surgery about 4.5 years ago. Everybody knows that a surgery like that can put you more in touch with your emotions (there must be medical proof for this theory - mustn't there?). Now that I've gotten that off my chest, so to speak, I can proceed with the review. Here is the back flap:

Kane's a country singer who's tangled with too many deceitful women. He's learned his lesson: girls are for flirting and fun; emotions are for his music. But after spending a night with an earnest woman unlike any he's known, he can't force her out of his mind. So he goes in search of the woman he knows only as "Elle."

Despite the distance, Kane's tour schedule, and their meddling friends, both are drawn to the chance for a romance neither quite believes is possible.

Aria proves that no matter how many romances you read (in barely a 2-month period), and how much you already suspect that the boy & girl will end up together, it can still be written in such a way as to suck you in. And I was properly sucked in. I'm going to use one of my favorite devices for telling you what I liked about Mending Heartstrings. It's my usual - The List:

1. With the proper build-up, kissing can be very sexy and romantic. They do not always have to go "all the way." (But even the "all the way" scenes are very tastefully done.)
2. There are several very strong supporting players in this book. In fact, one of them has her own storyline.
3. There is enough light humor to provide some breaks from the romance and drama.
4. The interplay between the 2 main characters is very natural.
5. the male star of the book works in Nashville. He plays regularly at a bar called the Fiddle & Steel. This is just like The Bluebird from TV's Nashville.
6. The writing is very easy but also very effective. Some examples:
"Kane impressively managed to be simultaneously unobtrusive and indispensable."
"Sabella snatched some scissors to open it. Vivid fabrics reached out of the box as
though seeking air they had long been denied."
"You say you can't even always control the characters in stories that you make up;
you have no hope of trying to control or predict real life."

I'm suggesting (again!) that if you are in the mood for a romance, this one fits the bill. It's really good.

The Title Says it All

I think I said it best in a tweet I sent last week when I finished reading MENDING HEARTSTRINGS:

“A story I wanted to just keep going, with characters I’d like to see again!” @ariaglazki MENDING HEARTSTRINGS http://amzn.to/1FRt8vm

I must admit at first it kind of felt like work, but the more I read the more the story settled into a real-life romance instead of the perfect HEA with ideal gorgeous women and knight-in-shining armor men. Things seemed like they’d be going great and then BAM, something out of left field would throw the couple off. Kane is fearful that someone wants to tie their horse to his country music star wagon. Sabella, or Bella as Kane calls her, or Sab as her best friend Gina calls her, is one beautiful but tough cookie wrapped in a short, average body. I like the idea that girls of all sizes can read this and dream that they can have their own romance story. With Sabella and Kane, fear kept creeping in where love was meant to take hold, and we’re taken on a ride to see that, as long as you stay in the game, love can always replace that fear. Add a handful of funny and interesting characters, such as Gina the ‘colorful’ bestie, or Bobby, the flirty colt in Kane’s band, and you’ve got a lot of lighthearted moments and a current ancillary story as well. Both Sabella and Kane were closed off…mainly for the same reason of being broken hearted. They were constantly finding ways to push each other away in their heads to finally come to the conclusion that perhaps it’s best to follow their hearts and “jump off the cliff together”. Guys don’t ride in on white stallions, but they really do, even though it only looks like a gourmet breakfast or replacing locks in a jiffy. Add a tiny crack in the brick wall of her pragmatism that affords a loving woman a reason to stay put and fight for a man that’s worth waiting for…well that’s Kane and Bella, and we get to tag along to witness them mending their heartstrings.

I loved it!

This was a beautiful story. The characters are very down to earth and make the story seem more real, they aren't perfect in the slightest which made this story all the more believable. Sabella is a strong character despite not being able to trust Kane. She stands up for herself when drama is thrown at her which was really nice. She didn't crumble down. Kane is a very sweet and loveing southern man who has trust issues. His past made it that he has difficulties trusting fully a woman considering he's famous. He often makes the mistake to listen to other and jump to conclusion instead of talking to Sabella, but he comes to his senses rather quickly so it didn't drag in that sense. Gina is another very important character, she's Sabella's best friend. She's a strong character who just wants to be loved but ends up in much more trouble than she wished for. Sabella and Kane both help her get through it.

The book was set at a nice pace, sometimes it was a bit slow but it didn't bother me much. The ending though, was quite rushed. You have 90% of the book that develops the story and only 10% for the ending and so much happens in the ending that it does feel rushed.

i really loved this story. It was a sweet love story with some drama, not as much as i expected from the blurb but enough to keep you guessing what will happen next. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes sweet love story and see them develop despite the distance between the characters.

This book was exactly what I needed. A heartfelt love story about learning to over come being hurt in love before, taking a leap on something that is outside of your norm and taking a leap of faith on love again.

Kane is living the dream. His country star act is starting a new tour. He has it all or just did not realize that he was missing something until he meets Elle. She is a breath of fresh air for Kane. She is everything that he does not look for in a woman; whether for the night or in a relationship.

Sabella finds herself in a local bar listening to country star Kane. She came her looking for him. What she did not realize is that she would want to get to know the person Kane and that scared her more than anything. After a brief talk and walk, they part ways. Sabella knows the chances of seeing Kane again are never going to happen.

But Kane unable to get this fierce woman out of his mind, so he sets out to find this Elle. When they meet a second time, the sparks and desire are undeniable but Sabella has rules she must go by to protect herself. Kane is more than determined to get to know Sabella. As they venture on a new adventure together, close quarters cause them to learn more about each other than they know.

Will Kane be able to go along with these rules? Can Sabella let her guard down to finally love again? How can Kane trust Sabella after all the other women that hurt him?

Kane although very untrusting is to to sweet. He falls so hard for Elle and doesn’t realize it at first. He is a country singer who has been used by women as stepping stones for their careers and to get to his manager. His manager who is a total douchecanoe. All the other guys in his band are precious. Steve tries to protect Kane and Bobby is just like a little kid. They are a family and there for each other.

Elle is somewhat reserved and rigid but as she is on tour with Kane she loosens up. A great friend to Gina who is a hoot. On Elle’s last night in Nashville she meets Kane and they spark. Kane likes that she isn’t a fan and can have a fun talk with her. When they part ways each can’t get the other out of their minds and Kane acts on it. We have a misunderstanding and Kane has to wiggle back into her good graces but its sweet to see what he does. My favorite is when he does get back in and he cooks swoon a guy who cooks…So Elle ends up on tour with him and it is sweet and some areas hot with the intimacy. Also when Kane helps Gina another swoon moment…Such a great guy.

Each character brings their own relevancy and emotion to the book. All show to be multi-dimensional and have some depth.

A great story of finding someone when you least expect it and not letting misunderstandings stop you from being together. A fun sweet romance to curl in a chair with and get lost in.

Sabella is in Nashville to research some country music for an article she is writing. She is a free lance writer. She is in the bar when a man comes over and sets next to her and they start talking to each other. Ella , as she likes to be called, doesn't know that Kane is a lead singer in a country band. They really hit it off and they spend some time together that evening. Now Kane can't get Bella, as he calls her, out of his mind. He goes to Portland where she lives to visit with her again. She loves his songs and he suggests she go on tour with his band to help with her article. She is a very practical girl but her bestfriend, Gina, tells her to go for it. I don't want to give the story away so I won't say alot more about it. The story is great. It suggests sex but doesn't go into details. I loved that. The characters are really good. The members of his band really like her and she grows to really like them, but when she feels her friend, Gina, is in trouble she goes home to help her friend. Great story

An enjoyable, quick read. I don't read much romance, but this novel engaged my attention and kept my interest throughout. I especially liked the best friend character, Gina, and how Glazki portrayed Gina and Sabella's relationship. I liked how Glazki featured realistic relationship problems with both the main relationship and the best friend's relationship, with plausible character reactions and resolutions. This isn't a corny, depthless romance; there's some meat to it, and I really appreciate that.

I found the ending of the novel to be a touch rushed. As a reader, I would have liked a little more buildup to the grand gesture.

I look forward to the sequel about Gina's life going forward.

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The blurb sounded so, SO good that I had to request it. And obviously the cover was just swoon worthy.

But I was highly disappointed.

The opening sentence had no charm. It told us nothing. It was just a statement. And unfortunately for me, the whole book continued to be like that.

It's a pity because it was really cool love story. The writing just killed it.

Two stars for this: one for the cover, one for the story.

This was a wonderful love story, full of heart (and a little heartache). I love how Kane pursued her, even when he wasn't sure she didn't have ulterior motives, and I love the way she finally called him on that. It was wonderful to see what a great friend she was to Gina, and how Kane backed her up with that. You could really feel how his music career was enhanced by his relationship with her, in all the best ways. The best part was how they each had to realize the importance of trust in a relationship, not just receiving it but giving it as well. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This was the first book I read by Aria Glazki, and I was lucky enough to win it in a giveaway on twitter! I really enjoyed the book. Really enjoyed Kane the most, and respected the way Aria portrayed a moving and touchy subject that really brought the book to life.

I think with a little more "show" and a little less "tell", she'll definitely be a five-star read soon. Highly recommended for a good read.

As a fan of romances set in the music world I was immediately drawn to this tale of fears and past hurts and quickly became immersed in the lives of not only the appealing main couple but a secondary character too. It's a sweet and sentimental tale full of realistic interactions, a touch of angst, and some sensitive handling of a serious issue that pulls at your heartstrings while leaving you cheering for everyone to find their HEA.

Kane's a country singer feeling like he's lost his spark until he sees a woman sitting at the bar who's unlike all the other women he's known before. After a memorable night where they connect through words and sweet kisses he decides that he can't let her go. From the moment he re-enters her life readers are rewarded with a sensual romance that takes its time in developing, through normal outings to heartfelt talks theirs is a connection based on substance instead of sex. When outside forces intervene will they be able to stay committed or will his fears and long distances pull them apart? Kane's an appealing hero, talented with exotic looks. He's been burned by women before, women who wanted him only for his name or his connections, which has him making assumptions far too quickly at the start. When realizing his mistakes he doesn't hesitate in making things right which endeared him to me. It's clear he's attracted to Bella though he never rushes her, never acts as if their relationship is lacking because they hold off having sex. He's a true gentleman, treating her with respect and always having her in his thoughts when meeting groupies so she never feels doubt. He has a kind soul, especially noticeable when helping Bella's friend Gina and it made him all the sexier.

Sabella's a freelance writer who's writing an article about country music even though she isn't a fan. She is a fan of Kane's voice however and it's the foundation for an unexpected romance that evolves slowly and hits a few snags along the way because of his rash judgments. Bella's an appealing heroine, strong-willed and focused on what she wants, who surprised me with a rash decision to get to know more about Kane. While on the road with him she formed a bond with his protective bandmates that was cute and further enhanced her likability. Her friendship with Gina also showed her to be a caring and supportive person who would do anything to save a person she cared about from harm. Bella's a woman of values who doesn't see sex as something casual which had her delaying the deed until almost the mid-way point of the story. Though I normally like my romances more scorching, I didn't mind the sweetness of their relationship as the build-up was immensely satisfying.

On a whole this was an entertaining read with style and substance between an appealing main couple whose journey to HEA wasn't riddled with too many angsty roadblocks. It was a fairly straightforward romance, a bit predictable at times, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as it was more like a comfortable blanket in knowing what to expect. The romance itself is sweet with no erotically-charged encounters, they're more of the sensual variety which still made for a richly satisfying romance. Nicely balanced with their romance were issues of fidelity and abuse, handled in a realistic and respectful way. Along with this appealing main couple were an equally engaging cast of secondary characters who provided bits of humor and drama. Kane's bandmates were an eclectic group, supportive of him as well as protective. They test Bella at first but soon become almost brotherly in their playful interactions with her. Bella's friend Gina is a memorable heroine too, outspoken and brash but hiding her own pain. She's colorful in looks and speech and took over the scenes she was in which is why I'm pleased to see her take the lead in the next installment in this Forging Forever series. Though it sometimes moved slowly I still found myself fully immersed in this romance and ultimately satisfied by the quickly resolved conclusion from an author readers will want to keep an eye on in the future.

A much slower-paced romance, Kane and Sabella have a subtle chemistry that carries through despite the distance and past hurts that threaten to keep them apart. The relationship build is based on something much deeper than passion, but what I enjoyed was that their passions came through in other ways. I always like steam in my romances, but sometimes I'm willing to overlook the closed-door moments when a couple comes through with the tenderness. That was mostly the case here and I think the best word I can describe Kane and Sabella, their relationship, and their whole progression is "understated".

Sometimes the supporting characters upstaged the MC's and I can't say it wasn't well-deserved. There was also a secondary conflict with Gina that could have dominated the story, but even though the situation was pretty serious, it only served to strengthen Kane's character and show Sabella for the concerned and observant friend that she is. I loved that she wasn't like so many younger heroines who get caught up in all their own drama that they overlook, dismiss, or downplay the important people around them.

Kane was a great male lead with his patience, concern, consideration, and honesty. A small spark led him to make some big changes in his life and his heart that were absolutely necessary to give him his musician's soul the boost it needed. He did lash out and make some pretty hurtful assumptions at some points, but once he got over himself and his past he moved on to a future with Sabella. He was determined and supportive and a tender man that had something really special about him.

Being that the pace was much slower it did drag at times and got a bit bogged down in the descriptions and exposition of so many things that happened in the story. I wished the pacing had picked up at any point in the story, but aside from the Gina drama, it was just a slow read. While the many details served their purpose and gave us a clear picture, it was a bit too much on the "tell" side of things rather than focusing on the "show" aspect of story telling. But overall this was a sweet story with good, solid characters and a tender love story worth reading.

When I started reading Aria Glazki's book, Mending Heartstrings, I was looking for pure escapism! This book was the perfect choice. I found this book thoroughly entertaining and a nice departure from the same old same old rom-coms I've read recently. This book is the story of an up and coming country singer and a writer who are drawn to each other after a chance meeting. This book is filled with a country band's tour, trust issues, friendship, an undesirable boyfriend, and trying to make a long term relationship work. The main characters were written so well that it was easy to imagine them as well as the quirky secondary characters. It was easy to image the events really happening. In my opinion, this was a feel good five star read. I definitely want to read more books in this series!

This was a well-written contemporary romance. Sabella is in Nashville doing research for the articles she writes, and on her last night she goes to the live show of one of the country singers whose music she likes. Kane has had some bad experiences with women in the past who are more interested in his fame than in him, but there's something about Sabella he can't forget. Can they find a way to let down their walls and learn to trust each other? I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading others by this author. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is also the first in a series with related characters.

Let me start by saying that this will pull every reader’s heartstring with emotions, I mean there were times where I laughed at something that the guys from the band did, on the hand there were where I felt like throwing the book at the wall with anger and sad because no human being deserves to be abused in any shape or form no matter how many flaws they have. I got a copy from the author for a review.

I know I generally gravitate towards steamier rockstar stories but felt the need to give country a try. Kane and Bella's story was not filled with the drama that normally comes with a musician and the normal girl out of her element. Fairly predictable, so no real surprises but a nice read and great secondary characters. Just wished for more.

I liked it. It was an easy read. The characters seemed well rounded and interesting. The plot twists were fairly predictable. The timetable seemed off to me. While the main romance was a whirlwind and took place over what seemed like just a few days, the secondary romance seemed like it must have been going on much longer for it to have gotten as serious as it was. And the ending seemed a little premature. But as good a place as any to wrap a bow around it, I suppose.

A well -written book that I enjoyed reading the interaction between Kane a country singer and the woman he meets, Sabella is from Portland and this is her last night in Nashville. Will they get a happy ending that question kept me reading until the end.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I had also bought this book back in 2016.
