A missing husband…a potential killer on the loose. This quaint Northern Minnesota town is suddenly the hotspot of mystery!

A concerned group of seniors take it upon themselves to start a podcast (that goes viral mind you) to help solve all the strange happenings in this sleepy Minnesota town.
This book had a bit of a different feeling to it from this author’s previous works. The addition of the seniors gave it a cozy element that I think many will enjoy! It lightened up the thriller element.
Looking forward to more reads from SNG and hoping she will once again bring back America’s favorite podcasters!😂

As soon as I heard that Seraphina Nova Glass had another book coming out, I knew immediately that I had to get my hands on it ASAP. So when I saw that those of us at Thriller Book Lovers: The Pulse had an exclusive to read it early? Well, I snapped it up quick. After all, she’s one of my favorite authors, as her thrillers are always packed to the gills with sublime characters, evocative settings, and unguessable twists. Let me tell you, Nothing Ever Happens Here had all of that and more. Unfurling with ratcheting suspense that easily kept me on the edge of my seat, I was utterly captivated from the first compelling page until the very last word.
As evidenced by Glass’s prior books, her biggest talent is creating eccentric, oddball characters and comedic yet drama-filled scenes. Just as I loved her rundown motel setting in The Vacancy in Room 10, the realistic yet unforgettable assisted living community was equally well done in Nothing Ever Happens Here. I mean, I could vividly see the gray-haired old dears bickering over Murder She Wrote until bad things began to occur. From there you can just imagine how the spunky protagonists got down to business in the hopes of stopping the evil doer in their tracks before even more dead bodies began to accrue.
All in all, Glass definitely managed to do it again. From the giggle-worthy humor to the pulse-pounding climax, this author knows just how to blend it all into one truly dynamite premise. Told via multiple POVs that made the book sing, the well-plotted storyline was addictive in the extreme. Was it on the edge of over-the-top? Well, yes…but only in the best possible way. So suspend your disbelief, plant yourself in your favorite reading spot, and get ready to meet some truly endearing personas as they take you on the ride of your life. Intense, humor-filled, twisty, and fun, you’re going to want to read this book as soon as it’s out in the world, no ifs, ands, or buts. Rating of 4 stars.

As the title suggests, nothing much is happening here…
Each chapter is narrated by a different person in the 1st person so it’s easy to forget which person is talking especially since most are unmemorable. Mack & Shelby are interchangeable.
Most of the story line was eyeball-roll inducing. Add in the most inept police force in history and the reader is forced to accept all the plot holes.
Nothing much happens in the middle of the book but there is a lot of filler with information that has no bearing on the story,
I did enjoy the older characters in the old age home and the idea they started a podcast. But the characterization is awful….really people in their 60s and 70s are more savvy than portrayed. The podcast angle is never fully explored.
This reads as a cozy but language is thrown in to prevent the book being pigeonholed into that category, which was jarring.
I’m rambling, much like this book….so I’ll stop here

Nothing Ever Happens Here was a mixed bag for me... it had me hooked at the start, but let’s just say it didn’t stay that way! I’ll be honest, it didn’t fully win me over like I’d hoped, but it still had a few redeeming moments that kept me going.
Shelby Dawson survived a brutal attack 15 months ago, and she’s just trying to move on with her life. But guess what? Someone’s not done with her. She gets a threatening note on her car windshield, and that’s when the drama begins! Add in a viral case, a group of senior citizens causing some chaos, and a small-town setting, and boom—things go from bad to worse.
The pacing was... kinda all over the place! 🚶♀️ At times, it was dragging and hard to get into, especially with the multiple POVs. There were just too many characters, and I was left trying to remember who was who. Some were super interesting, like the senior citizen squad, who definitely added some much-needed color to the story. Florence’s chapters? The best part, no doubt! She was fun, and I was invested in her storyline more than the others.
But oh boy, the ending? 🤦♀️ It was like the author threw in a twist just for the sake of it, and honestly? It was too much. 🙄 The big reveal? Kinda unbelievable and had me rolling my eyes so hard! 😑 The plot got a bit too OTT, and I was left wondering how I ended up here.
On the bright side, the humor was a pleasant surprise! I didn’t expect to get some laughs in the middle of all this suspense, but I’m glad the author brought that balance. It kept things from being too heavy!
Overall, I didn’t hate it, but I’m not completely sold on picking up more of Seraphina Nova Glass’s books just yet. I loved her character development, but the story? Eh, it didn’t totally capture me like I wanted it to. 🤷♀️ If you're a fan of twisty thrillers and small-town mysteries, you might enjoy this, but for me... it’s just a “meh” in the thriller department.

There's a reason why so many people enjoy living in small towns. They're safe. They're wholesome and it's a great place to grow up, or raise your own children.
Shelby and Mack are best friends who still live in the small town they grew up in. Both are successful business women and have their own families. Life is steady and good.
That is until Shelby is viciously attacked, barely surviving the incident, and on that same night Mack's husband, Leo, also goes missing.
This event shook the town. People were understandably shocked and disturbed. How could this happen here? Nothing ever happens here...
Honestly, this is all I want to say about this plot. I always look forward to new releases from Seraphina Nova Glass, because she always ends up surprising me. I'm never sure what I'm going to get.
I feel like for some Mystery-Thriller authors, they have a bit of a formula, and you know when you are reading their books that it's one of theirs, because there is such a specific style. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
In fact, some of my favorite authors I would say this about. A great example, IMO, being the great Agatha Christie.
For SNG though, I don't really feel that. This also isn't a bad thing. Neither way is better than the other. I feel like her stories, the tone, the way they're told, have really run the gamut for me.
I loved the unique perspectives in this one. We get Shelby and Mack, of course, but we also get the perspective of an elderly woman named, Florence, who lives at a care home that both Shelby and Mack are involved with.
I love getting older perspectives. I say older, but by that I just mean older than what we, on average, tend to get in fiction, and I completely loved Florence.
This book grabbed me from the start. By 10% in, I was hooked. I felt like the opening was so powerful and intriguing that it's going to stick in my mind for a long time. I didn't know what to think.
I did find Shelby and Mack a bit interchangeable at the start, NGL. I struggled at times to tell them apart, but that worked itself out the further along I got in the story.
The residents of the care home though, were all distinct and such a joy to read about. The time spent with them was honestly my favorite bits.
Another thing I loved about this was the setting and the climate. This story is set in Minnesota, entirely during the winter months. The snow and teeth-chattering cold play a huge role in the action.
It's absolutely perfect for Winter reading. This entire story made me feel cold. I'm not joking. I could feel it. Make sure you have a nice warm blanket and hot drink at the ready when picking this one up!
Overall, I had a blast with Nothing Ever Happens Here. It's such an intensely-OTT, wildly-wicked good time, and boy, oh boy, did it get my pulse racing towards the end.
Florence and Herb are absolute dolls. I love them both and their friendship so much. Goals.

I did find Shelby and Mack a bit interchangeable at the start, NGL. I struggled at times to tell them apart, but that worked itself out the further along I got in the story.
The residents of the care home though, were all distinct and such a joy to read about. The time spent with them was honestly my favorite bits.
Another thing I loved about this was the setting and the climate. This story is set in Minnesota, entirely during the winter months. The snow and teeth-chattering cold play a huge role in the action.
It's absolutely perfect for Winter reading. This entire story made me feel cold. I'm not joking. I could feel it. Make sure you have a nice warm blanket and hot drink at the ready when picking this one up!
Overall, I had a blast with Nothing Ever Happens Here. It's such an intensely-OTT, wildly-wicked good time, and boy, oh boy, did it get my pulse racing towards the end.
Florence and Herb are absolute dolls. I love them both and their friendship so much. Goals.

I love nova glass. Her strength is creating plots where a community comes together to solve a problem, and the interaction between them are interesting and engaging. Nothing ever happens here has that in spades, and I loved it! It makes her thrillers stand out. The plot and writing was amazing as well! I had to know what would happen next.

WHEN THE TITLE FOREWARNS YOU, BUT YOU DON’T LISTEN! 😭😭
In Nothing Ever Happens Here Shelby Dawson 15 months earlier survived a harrowing attack that nearly left her dead, but with the help of her friend Mackenzie she was able to move past it. But now today she is receiving anonymous notes on her windshield. Is her attacker back to finish what they started. With the help of some senior citizens in a care home who make Shelby’s case go viral again the situation starts to get out of hand and now the community are at tether hooks wondering who is next in line for the attacker.
There was plenty of blows to the head for many of the characters in this book, and frankly I wanted to be included. This book was just soooo mid.
The positives are that this author really knows how to create great character development but unfortunately, I just found myself not interested in any of them. The story is told in three POVS which Ms Glass loves to do in her books but all three main characters in this book were just mid! I wasn’t compelled by any of them and the plot just wasn’t making the situation any easier.
The pacing was ok but again the plot lost it for me. I will say I enjoyed Florence's chapters more than the other two, but it was not enough to hook me in to the novel!
The red herrings were flat and it got to a point I couldn’t care less who was Shelby’s attacker. Speaking of her attacker… UMMM OKKKK!? It didn’t seem like a plausible enough reason for why they did what they did and on top of that it was all just over the top! The ending was a REACH and I rolled my eyes at the epilogue! 🙄
On a Quiet Street is one of my favourites from this author and I just want to read a thrilling book like that again! I wont give up on this author. But this was a big miss for me.

Not on the level of her prior thrillers I've read — On a Quiet Street (2022) and The Vacancy in Room 10 (2024) — but enjoyable nonetheless.
I found the amateur sleuths/residents of the senior living facility quite endearing. Fans of The Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman will get a kick out of this one, too.

This is a really fun popcorn type thriller with fun cozy vibes. 3.5 stars, rounded down. I overall kinda liked this one, but I really found the first half rather disjointed and very hard to engage with, especially with the multiple POV’s and I nearly DNF’d it. I did some skimming & it really did pick up the pace in the second half, but then the crazy OTT ending was also a bit too much as well. But that said, I really, really liked the senior citizen characters a lot and felt they really added quite a bit to this story. So, I guess I would recommend to Frieda M fans, perhaps?

That same night, Mackenzie’s husband Leo suspiciously disappears, also leaving her with quite a few surprises. But, enter the group of senior amateur sleuths from the Oleander led by Florence who are determined to do their own investigation as Detective Riley is hapless and inept. They even hijack one of their friend’s podcasts to get public help. While it often feels like more of a cozy mystery, the attacks are real and become more dangerous and sinister.

Brittany Pressley, Stacey Glemboski and Petrea Burchard were the voices for Mack, Shelby and Florence respectively. I loved their performances and each embodied their characters and were excellent storytellers.
the bottom line…
This was different fare than I’m used to experiencing from the author but still twisty and clever. I loved Florence and her motley crew who were so much better than the pitiful law enforcement. And that ending…definitely not cozy but very authentic and thought provoking. This was the proverbial page turner.

Boy did that title really hit the nail on the head!
Boring, inane, and dumb might be the words to describe my reaction to this book.
but 🤦♀️!
Such an apt title for this slog though paragraphs that went nowhere, copious repetitions, with nowhere paragraphs and characters that were poorly developed. In other words, I was not a fan of this story.
Our main character, Selby finding herself locked in a freezer by a very bad guy, and with the help of her friend, Mackenzie, returns to calm and peace but then a note appears on her windshield sends her into a tizzy. With the entrance of an old age group who decide to start a pod cast believing themselves to be the second coming of Murder Inc., seemed promising but then again nothing. Oh! and Mackenzie's husband has vanished leaving her with a mountain of debt, so all fingers eyes, and toes point to him as the culprit.
With a promising start, this story went downhill rather quickly and left me shaking my head with a bit of eye rolling on the side. Disappointing!
Jan and I felt left down by this story so we don't recommend this story.

This was an awesome listen on Libby. A multi-pov / multi-narration of three women. A disappearance and attempted murder start us off in this suspenseful mystery. Right out of the gate I was hooked.
The storyline was pretty good. The twist was unsuspected and I liked the anxiety the book gave me when I wasn’t sure if the perpetrator was going to get away with it. The way the story ties together was excellent. When you think it’s over, it’s not. Really well written and well done. I didn’t absolutely LOVE the book and felt it could have buttoned up a smidge better, so I only took off one star.
If you like face paced mysteries filled with speculation and suspense, this is a good one. It got me going for sure…

I have enjoyed this author's books in the past and was stoked to read this one. It started off so good and immediately pulled me in. Unfortunately, the pace fizzled out throughout the middle. It was too slow moving for me. There are a lot of characters, and at times it was hard to keep track of them all. I did enjoy the old folks…but the actions of the police and the others, just got under my skin. Now, saying that, I did like the ending. It totally caught me off guard, and I love how it all came together. So although this wasn't my favorite by this author, I'll still be picking up her future books.

I always enjoy the authors books and while this wasn’t my favorite from her, it was still a pretty solid read for me. I think it was a bit of a departure from the authors previous books so maybe that’s why I didn’t connect to it as much, but I appreciate that she did something a little different than usual. There’s a lot of characters to keep track of here, you have the main ones, Shelby and Mack and then the random residents in the small town, and my favorites, the seniors who all live together in a care home. I loved them all, especially Florence and her meddling ways and their podcast was hilarious! As much as I enjoyed that plot line I think it made things feel a little silly at times, especially next to such brutal crimes being committed. The central mystery was compelling though and I was definitely invested in Mack and Shelby’s lives and situations and I didn’t quite predict how things would play out. If you like thrillers with a side of humor try this, it was a pretty fun ride.

Firstly, if you’re like me and it’s a challenge to have lots of characters, know this book has LOADS of characters to remember. They are distinctive enough that I at least got the key players, but it was an uphill battle. I think audio book format might have been easier as each character would have a different tone. That said, this book was wonderful. It has a juxtaposition of cold and calculated acts with the wholesomeness of a tight community in a retirement home. You fall in love with everyone there! The mystery keeps you guessing although I had an idea of the “bad guy” I still didn’t have all the pieces yet that explained actions. I highly recommend!

I enjoyed reading Nothing Ever Happens Here. It’s got a great mystery, and I honestly didn’t figure out who was behind everything until it was revealed at the end. I think the characters were solid as well and I loved the addition of the elderly residents from the senior living home. But did I take this novel seriously? Not at all. Despite the complicated nature of what was happening, the novel never felt super suspenseful. It almost felt like a cozy mystery to me- more laid back and fun rather than a “gripping thriller”. Maybe it’s because of the sleuthing seniors? Or the authors writing style? I’m not sure, but I never felt the urgency that one normally would in a thriller. In any event, it’s still a solid novel and I think many readers who have enjoyed the author’s novels in the past will like this one.

I typically enjoy the number of characters in her books, but this time it felt a bit overwhelming. I even had to create a Google Doc to keep track of everyone, which says a lot. I decided to put it down at 50%.

This story started out good. The mystery thriller started with Mac whose husband disappeared on the same night as Shelby being held hostage at Mac's cafe. She was left in the restaurant's freezer for dead but luckily was rescued in time. A year later, the bad guy resurfaced again with a threatening note on Shelby's car windshield. Her husband prepared her with a gun in the house for self defense. Mac, on the other hand deals with her husband's disappearance and possibilities of her being the killer who killed off her husband.
Then there's Florence who wants to do podcast to solve the crime as a way to reduce her chances from having dementia.
I lose interest with Florence and the lack of police searching for the killer especially when Shelby got attacked again and again with no official protection.

This book has my jaw open quite a few times thinking WTF! We have some senior loving folks, one trying to find a hobby who decides she should start a true crime podcast. We have Mack whose husband Leo disappeared a year ago from suspicious circumstances. We also have Shelby, Mack’s friend, who has survived an attempted murder and feels like there is someone always watching her. There have been some unexplained deaths recently in their small town and now the gang is beginning to think there was foul play involved. The element of the seniors gave this book more of a cozy feel for much of the story, but don’t you worry, there were many thrilling parts as well!

Nova Glass is an auto read author for me so I was so excited when Nothing Ever Happens Here became available! It was definitely a DROP EVERYTHING moment!
When I say Nothing Ever Happens Here opens with a bang, wow, am I not kidding. My jaw hit the floor. As a mother, I could honestly feel Shelby's distress as she realized her babies were trapped the car while she was completely helpless. It made a catastrophic situation all the more traumatic and emotional!
From there, Nova Glass weaves a tale of mystery and suspense. Shelby may have narrowly escaped with her life, but someone is not done with her. Meanwhile, her best friend's husband went missing on the same night of the attack, making it hard to believe the two incidents weren't related -- and maybe in the worst way. I appreciated that Mack and Shelby were able to maintain their friendship and trust in one another as they grappled with the unimaginable. It was a nice depiction of female friendship and resiliency.
I loved the crew at the Oleander and how invested in their community they were. The podcast bit added a nice touch and I liked how they each played detective in their own ways. There were quite a few characters but once we got to know them better, it was easier to keep track and everyone added something to the story.
This one kept me guessing and I bet it will fool a lot of readers! There were some good red herrings and I liked that the killer didn't feel obvious.
If you like a well-rounded cast of characters, mysteries with a true crime podcast spin, and a book that keeps you on your toes, I definitely recommend!

A little over a year ago the small Minnesota town was traumatized when Shelby Dawson is attacked and narrowly survives. The same night, her best friend Mackenzie/Mac’s husband disappears without a trace. The townspeople have theories and gossip, but no evidence has emerged in either crime.
Shelby is scared when she gets a warning about that night, and other strange accidents occur to friends and family. At the same time, Mac discovers some information about her husband Leo that could help explain his disappearance. Both women are on the hunt for more clues.
I enjoyed the story and twists and turns. What added some fun was that Shelby runs a small senior living facility. They provide humor, but also jump in to help solve the crimes and keep their friends safe. The narration on the audiobook helped me to enjoy this. 3-1/2 stars rounded to 4.

On that same night, Shelby’s friend, Mackenzie, discovered her husband had gone missing. As both women attempt to move on with their lives, many questions remain. But if they go digging for the truth, they might not like what they find.
NOTHING EVER HAPPENS HERE was my first Seraphina Nova Glass thriller and I was pleasantly surprised by the humor as that’s not something you usually get with this genre. It was an added bonus and helped balance out the darker bits of the story.
The plot had me invested but there were some bumps along the way. It was tricky keeping track of some characters in my mind even as the story was hitting the home stretch. The author did keep me on my toes though and had me constantly second guessing the different theories I came up with in my head.
Overall a decent thriller that has motivated me to check out other books by this author.

A story of small town survival with a serial killer on the loose.
The story centers on two friends. Shelby and Mack. Also a seniors home with the pov of Florence. One of the residents.
Macks husband Leo is missing and after Shelby almost gets killed they think Leo is on the run.
All the characters look out for each other as they try to solve the mystery of who's doing the murders as they happen.
The ending was abit underwhelming but all in all enjoyable.
