I received a free copy of, The Christmas Gathering by, Shelly Shepard Gray; Rachel J. Good; Lenora Worth, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book has three stories, in it. The first is A Christmas Reunion by Shelly Shepard Gray. Tricia Troyer enjoyed last years Christmas with her cousins friend Brandt, and is hopeful this year will be letter than last year.
The second story is We Gather Together by Lenora Worth, Lucas and Katie family are feuding but is does not stop the two of them from falling in love.
The Third story is Hitting All The Right Notes, by Rachel J. Good, Andrew chose music over his family and was banished. Will this be the year to be forgiven?
First let me be honest, after reading this I am in the mood for winter and Christmas this book really set the mood. I devoured We Gather Together by Worth and was in awe the family drama and the forgiveness and love, this story brought out. I was so sad this was a novella not a full-length book. But it was great to be left wanting more. Then I read A Christmas Reunion by Shelley Gray, and it was just as good. I love and believe in Christmas Miracles, so this was right up my alley. Again, I didn't want the novella to end so fast. This is a book to put on your reading list for this Christmas season. You will devour it just as fast as I did, I'm sure. Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. A favorable review was not required, and all views expressed are our own.
I read amish books because they make me feel relaxed and warm inside. I really enjoyed story 1 and 2. If they were full length i would def read them. Number 3 was not my cup of tea. But they were wholesome and fuzzy. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion

My thoughts: Pages 7-81 🫂 A Christmas Reunion * Shelley Shepard Gray - This was cute, but I thought there were too many liberties with commercialism. 🔖Page 100 of 286 Chapter 3 of We Gather Together - This is interesting despite the cliches.
83-174 🤲🏽We Gather Together * Lenora Worth - This story had a Hatfields & McCoys - Romeo & Juliet vibe going and I loved it. I was also interested in the Shadow Lake series, although it had more spoilers than I liked. I will also be adding the Sweet Inspirational Christmas Romances series to my TBR, that wedding sounds amazing. So far this story is my favorite.
175-282 🎶🎹🎷🎸🥁 Hitting All the Right Notes * Rachel J. Good - This was very good, like a movie and they were in it for the long game. It would have gotten 5 stars but they ran out of time and rushed the ending.
Recommend to others: Yes, this was a warm Christmas story collection, I would like to read it again in the future.
I am truly ready for Christmas after reading this book! Three fabulous stories by spectacular authors! I honestly loved them all! There are a lot of fun times like a scavenger hunt, a snowman contest, and an Amish rock band!
The characters are wonderful! They are all relatable and easy to like. Each love story involving the main characters was unique and sweet! It was nice to have familiar characters from other books!
The struggles that were in each book are certainly understandable. People from different backgrounds figuring out love. Family feuds and misunderstandings. A longing to use the gifts that God has given. The authors addressed these issues with grace and compassion.
I will, without a doubt, be looking forward to the next book by these authors! I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from Kensington Publishing Corp. via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A collection of Amish stories centered around Christmas, The Christmas Gathering is an easy read with stories of forgiveness and love. Wonderful characters.
Releases Sept. 24th. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This collection of three stories by Shelley Shepard Gray, Rachel J. Good, and Lenora Worth are as different from each other as they could be but have themes in common such as Christmas and family. We all want love at Christmas.
You will find yourself wishing for a world stopping snowstorm so you can stay up late and read. I suggest grabbing a cup of cocoa with lots of marshmallows and a comfy blanket and curl up with The Christmas Gathering.
This is the perfect book to put you in the mood for Christmas and the nostalgic feelings it invokes. Each story has a theme of a Christmas miracle of sorts. I found each to have a unique storyline instead of the typical theme. Each character has obstacles to overcome to find love and happiness. I found myself settling in to enjoy turning the pages of these families lives as they deal with real difficulties, faith is tested, and Christmas brings to light Amish traditions which I found interesting. A warm inviting read of the holiday season and being surrounded by the love of family. I recommend adding this to your must read Christmas books. I received a complimentary copy from the authors. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
Three of my fave Amish fiction authors in one Christmas romance collection? Yes please! Each author writes with warmth and creates layered and heartfelt characters that you can’t help but love, and their individual contributions to The Christmas Gathering are no exception!
In The Christmas Reunion, author Shelley Shepard Gray takes us along on a fun holiday gathering of family and friends, with a mix of Amish and Englisch attendees and a lovely ‘Regency house party’ vibe in a contemporary Amish setting. One such mix of Amish & English is Tricia Troyer and her cousin’s buddy Brandt Holden – a guidance counselor who isn’t Amish, so you can imagine the complications this brings into any possible romantic relationship between them. I did find her family to be pretty laid-back about it for the most part, which was refreshing. And Brandt’s conversation with Tricia’s dad Mervin (“truly one of the strangest, most unexpected conversations he’d ever had in his life.”) is one of my fave moments in this collection! I loved that they’ve been friends and corresponding since last year’s gathering, because it gives their budding romance a foundation and backstory. Lots of fun to be had in this story, and hosts Abel & Annie Troyer make it all the more delightful. (I also think I caught a brief mention of my still-favorite Shelley Shepard Gray hero, Simon, too.)
Lenora Worth’s We Gather Together takes us to a familiar setting for those who’ve read her Shadow Lake series, but it’s fine as a standalone. And even though I haven’t yet read those books, this novella piqued my curiosity to go back and meet the characters of the Shadow Lake Inn from the beginning. The Hatfield & McCoy vibes are strong between Lucas and Kayla’s families (which makes these two newly-smitten lovebirds Romeo & Juliet), and Worth tugs on the emotions as Kayla and Lucas find themselves falling in love despite their families’ feud. The Myers are at the inn for a family reunion, the Hollingers for a family wedding… but they’re all snowed in with some hot tempers and some growing romantic sparks. I loved Lucas and Kayla, and the characters of Shadow Lake Inn who step in to help save the day between these two warring clans. Along with the sweet & swoony romance in this story, there is a touching message of forgiveness, peace, and restoration just in time for the Christmas season.
Closing out the collection is Hitting All the Right Notes by Rachel J. Good, a story I loved just as much for its character development and unexpected plot elements as I did for the romance. Not only does this novella take place over the span of a few years (which isn’t easy to pull off successfully with a shorter word count, but Good definitely uses it to the story’s advantage), it also follows an Amish boy’s love of music from sneaking listens of his neighbor’s garage band in childhood to being in a popular rock band as a young adult. Along with Mark, we also meet Jolene – a daring young Amish woman who yearns for more knowledge and experiences outside the restrictions her family has put in place (fun fact – Jolene’s parents will be familiar to readers of Good’s Surprised by Love series). My favorite part of this story – well, besides the ever-delightful Mrs. Vandenburg, is that it’s less a tale of these two restless souls falling in love (though the romance IS very sweet) and more one of these two restless souls finding redemption, peace, and purpose with God. Because of how it spans several years, we really feel like we know Mark and Jolene by the end, and I love stories that do that for me.
Bottom Line: Wrap up in a cozy quilt, grab a mug of hot chocolate or warm cider… and maybe a sweet baked good or two, and settle in for three novellas that surround you with faith, family, Christmas, and of course love. Each story in The Christmas Gathering surprised me in some way with plots and characters that aren’t ‘typical’ for the genre: a big Amish house party (complete with an elaborate scavenger hunt), feuding Amish families, and an Amish rock band. I really enjoyed the unexpected plots/characters and the engaging writing voices of all three authors. Shelley Shepard Gray, Lenora Worth, and Rachel J. Good all craft excellent stories, and this sweet collection will give you a wonderful taste of their individual styles if you have somehow managed not to read any books by them yet. A lovely choice for getting in the Christmas spirit!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
Shelley Shepard Gray’s novella in The Christmas Gathering anthology is A Christmas Reunion. In A Christmas Reunion Englischer Brandt joins his Amish friend Mark for a Christmas gathering. Unbeknownst to most of the group, after meeting at last year’s Christmas gathering, Brandt and Mark’s cousin, Tricia (who is also Amish) have been writing each other for the last year. With each letter, Brandt and Tricia have gotten closer. Looking forward to reuniting at Christmas, Brandt and Tricia are using the gathering to consider taking their friendship to the next level so that they can be reunited forever.
Shelley Shepard Gray has become an instant go-to Author for me for anything she writes, especially when it comes to Christmas books. A Christmas Reunion is a sweet read. I loved meeting Brandt and Tricia! I thought it was an interesting twist that Brandt and Tricia had “secretly” been writing one another. I loved the other characters in the story as well–especially Uncle Abel and Aunt Annie. I loved the aspect of the Christmas Scavenger Hunt and how Uncle Abel and Aunt Annie created a new one every year. I want to do Uncle Abel and Aunt Annie’s Christmas Scavenger Hunt myself! A Christmas Reunion is a sweet story from beginning to end. While A Christmas Reunion was a complete story for The Christmas Gathering anthology, as a reader I was wanting more of Brandt and Tricia’s story–wanting more of a glimpse of how their friendship evolved during the letter writing phase and wanting to know what’s going to happen to their relationship after the story is over. Even though I want more of the story, it doesn’t take away from A Christmas Reunion being an excellent story and edition to The Christmas Gathering anthology.
We Gather Together by Lenora Worth
Lenora Worth has been on my TBR list for a long time and I’m thankful that I was finally able to read her work in The Christmas Gathering anthology by way of We Gather Together. We Gather Together tells the story of a long standing family feud between the Myer and Hollinger families. Unbeknownst to both families, the Hollinger’s scheduled a Christmas Wedding at the Shadow Lake Inn while the Myer’s Family scheduled a Family Reunion at the Shadow Lake Inn. When Kayla Hollinger and Lucas Myer meet, they each find a instant friend that slowly turns into something more. Lucas and Kayla know that their friendship cannot continue unless both families can forgive and trust. Teaming up, Lucas and Kayla come up with ideas to get their families together in hopes of reconciling.
I love We Gather Together by Lenora Worth from beginning to end! I love the family feud aspect to the story, because, to me, it gave Kayla and Lucas’ story a type of Romeo and Juliet spin to it. I love how the theme of forgiveness and trust and how important those attributes are are woven through out the story. I love how Kayla and Lucas did their best to follow what they believe God wanted them to do and follow God’s Word. I love meeting the King Sisters and their families (and I am looking forward to reading their stories). The King Sisters and other family members always seem to be around to offer sage advice and Godly Wisdom to Kayla and Lucas and help them out when they needed it. I love the powerful story and lesson of forgiveness and trust that We Gather Together gave The Christmas Gathering anthology.
Hitting All The Right Notes by Rachel J. Good
Rachel J. Good hits very unique notes with her contribution in The Christmas Gathering anthology with Hitting All The Right Notes. Hitting All The Right Notes is the story of Amish Rocker (yes, you read that right–Amish Rocker) Mark of the hit group Amish Rebels, a band that consists of young men that are on their Rumspringa before they decide to join their Amish Community, and Joline, a Amish Groupie who is the Amish Rebels No. 1 fan and has a musical gift herself. While the music the way the Amish Rebels create it went against Amish rules, singing in and of itself wasn’t bad–but putting it before God and what His Word says is. The Amish Rebels and Joline during this season of their lives, fail to see the heart of the matter until what they have held dear regarding music begins falling apart, causing them to see clearly what God meant for them all along.
Rachel J. Good’s plot in Hitting All The Right Notes was genius, not to mention very unique for the Amish Genre! I have never read a plot like it in Amish fiction before! I wasn’t sure what to expect from Hitting All The Right Notes and if I would consider it a full novella, but it exceeded my expectations. Hitting All The Right Notes covered a lot of ground for a novella to where it felt like it was a full fledge story at times. I love Mark as a character and my heart broke for him as he struggled with love for the music he made and the love he developed for God and his Amish Faith. With Mark’s struggles at the same time came Wisdom and Strength to do what he believed what God wanted him to do. I must admit at the beginning, when I met Joline, she got under my skin a little bit because, to me, Joline came across as very immature for her age and, later on, portrayed stalker-like tendencies when it came to Joline constantly trying to be around Mark. As Joline grew, I myself, grew to like her. I’m thankful that Joline opened up her heart to God and saw how she was coming across to others. I love how Joline and Mark saw what God was trying to show them in how to live and treat others and how the theme of honoring family and forgiving others was woven through out the story. Despite my hesitations with parts of the story, I love Hitting All The Right Notes and it’s characters–especially Ms. Vandenberg (read A Christmas Gathering to find out about her). Rachel J. Good’s Hitting All The Right Notes is a wonderful story in The Christmas Gathering anthology.
The Christmas Gathering (As A Whole)
I really enjoyed The Christmas Gathering from beginning to end! Shelley Shephard Gray, Leonora Worth, and Rachel J. Good each wrote a unique and wonderful story. I love the twists that the Authors brought to their stories and the Amish Genre. I love how each story is full of characters that are real, spunky, and have flaws. I love how each story brought out different Biblical Themes that we all learn and deal with in our lives–Trusting God for the Plans He has for us, Forgiveness, and Honoring Our Families. If you are looking for a fun Christmas read to read during the Season, then I highly recommend The Christmas Gathering by Shelley Shephard Gray, Leonora Worth, and Rachel J. Good! I cannot wait to see what these Authors create next!

Total overview:
Language: None
Faith: There is a lot about the Amish faith. The last two were more Amish then the first one as that one had more of a Christianity that I know of.
Romance/Sex: The most was a few kisses and saying the ladys are pretty.
Action/Adventure: None
A Christmas Reunion Five Stars Brandt and Tricia must navigate their feeling as they meet once again at the rambunctious Christmas party that Tricia's uncle and aunt have hosted for several years. The only thing that might be an inconsistencie would be this:
“When my Annie and I decided fifteen years ago to start this gathering.... “And now, here we are. Five years later with a full bus.”
This might not be an inconsistencie but I don’t think it would take ten years to plan a gathering.
The writing was very enjoyable me, and there were no parts that dragged for me.
We Gather Together Four Stars Despite the long family fude between Kayla. and Lucas' familys the two of them struggle to get their family to forgive. No inconsistencies The writing seemed stilted and awkward, but the story line was very interesting.
Hitting All the Right Notes Four Stars Mark's love of music pushed him from his family. Joliene's love of music is about to do the same No inconsistencies The writing was very well done with no dull parts that I can think of, though the style was slightly different in the sense that the story took place over several years.
Each story has romance and a reunion. Some are family, and some are friends. They all involve Christmas. There is music, a scavenger hunt, and misunderstandings.
This is a sweet collection of heartwarming stories perfect for any time of the year! My favorite of the three was the last one by Rachel J. Good. I was intrigued by Mark's past as an Amish rock and roll star in the region, and his current situation busking with a handicapped man. He's reunited with an elusive admirer Joline, who had been on her own journey of rebellion and faith-seeking. After reading this novella I found the original story of the Amish rock band and the community center Joline's family established with the help of a wealthy local patron. I really enjoy this author's writing style and her characters.

This set of three novellas is a great way to put yourself in the Christmas mood. They are sweet encouraging stories. Faith is a strong theme throughout demonstrating the strength of Amish families. A Christmas Reunion, written by Shelley Shepard Gray is about an Amish family, the Troyers. They are unique in that they associate closely with non Amish friends, or Englishers. Mark Troyer invites his friend, an Englisher, Brandt, to spend Christmas with them. I had to forget what I know of the Amish that live in my area. My limited knowledge of the Amish is that they like to keep separate from the Englishers. The Troyers also have relatives who are Englishers. Brandt has discovered a new faith in God and his family has distanced themselves from him because of it. The closeness of Mark’s family and their acceptance of him brings him peace. Mark’s cousin, Tricia and Brandt develop a close friendship as they celebrate the season together. Will her family approve of their newfound relationship and will they be accepted? The second novella is We Gather Together, by Lenora Worth. This story is about a large Amish family reunion held at an Inn owned by an Amish family. Lucas and his family are there for their family reunion while Kayla and her family are there for her sister’s wedding. Problems arise because of an old family feud between the two families. The two grandfathers courted the same girl. When she made her choice, the feud began between the one time friends. Kayla and Lucas try to bring the families together and their friendship grows. They both depend strongly on their faith in God. Can they overcome and resist being drawn into the feud? Hitting all the Right Notes by Rachel J Good, is the third and last story of this collection. Mark, a young Amish boy, loves to listen to his English neighbors, the Musselmans, when they play their instruments and sing. As he grows older he helps Mrs. Musselman, now a widow, with various chores. Unknown to his parents, she gives him music lessons and he discovers he is very talented. Mark’s Amish friends are from the “wild” young men who don’t conform to all the rules. Some drive cars and have cell phones. They decide to form a band and call themselves, ”The Amish Rebels” Joline is a young Amish woman who also is drawn to the English music. She comes from a large family and is responsible for looking after her siblings. She has made friends with some Englisher girls and they take her to hear Mark’s band. Mark’s parents find out about his activities and are shocked and disappointed. When he refuses to stop, they kick him out. He ends up staying at the center where Joline works. One by one, Mark’s friends decide to join the Amish church and drop out of the band. Joline fills in as a band member and their friendship grows. When it becomes clear that she will not give up singing, her family sends her to live with a relative. Will they find their way back to each other? This is an easy and lighthearted collection. I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own.
THE CHRISTMAS GATHERING is a fabulous collection of three novellas that envelops the reader in the spirit of the Christmas season, reaffirms the bonds of family during the holidays, brings sweet romance alive, and sprinkles it with some of the Amish traditions.
THE CHRISTMAS REUNION by Shelley Shepard Gray is the wonderful story of Tricia Troyer and Brandt Holden as they continue their friendship at a Troyer holiday gathering. While trying to work through some things of his own, Brandt feeling continue to grow for Tricia. The main problem is one is Amish and the other is not. Tricia, as a member of the church, knows that any relationship with Brandt is impossible, but she can’t seem to get her heart to realize that fact. While it may be evident to everyone else, will they both admit to their feelings and if so, what can they do about them?
WE GATHER TOGETHER by Lenora Worth is the fabulous story of Lucas Myer and Kayla Hollinger who met while each was on vacation with their family and feelings bring to grow. Then they find out their families are like the Hatfield and McCoy’s making anything to come of their feeling impossible --- unless they can end the feud. Are they up to the task, which would not only allow their budding relationship to bloom, but also make this the very best Christmas present?
HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES by Rachel J. Good is the marvelous story of Mark, a young Amish man, whose great desire to be a musician and starting a band with his friends ended up getting him banished from his family. Joline grew up tending to her siblings, which grew in number after her daed remarried. The STAR center, where her parent’s worked, gave her a chance for freedom once the kids were in the activity rooms. It was during such a time that she saw Mark’s band. Will a nudge from God have the right person extending a hand of friendship in Mark’s dark period? Can a position teaching music be just the compass for Mark’s true direction? When Mark and Joline finally really met, can a growing friendship lead to more? Is it possible for Mark to make amends and gain the forgiveness of his family?
Each novella within THE CHRISTMAS GATHERING is an amazing, heart touching story with a true message of Christmas. Add them all together in one book and you have an amazing FIVE STAR book that would be an amazing read for the holiday season or a wonderful reminder of the wonders of Christmas any time of the year. Love the writings of all three authors and they have put forth on of their greatest novellas in this book. Highly recommend THE CHRISTMAS GATHERING to everyone!
I receive an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own. #ChristmasGatheringBook #ShelleyShepardGray #LenoraWorth #RachelJGood
The Christmas Gathering is an anthology made up of 3 Amish Romances. A CHRISTMAS REUNION by Shelley Shepard Gray introduces us to Tricia Troyer, who has feelings for her cousin's English friend. Brandt Holden joins the Troyer family for their holiday gathering. As their feelings become evident to everyone, they have decisions to make. Can an Amish girl and an English boy have a future together? Maybe if there is a Christmas Miracle. WE GATHER TOGETHER by Lenora Worth shares the story of Lucas Myer and Kayla Hollinger who meet each other while their families are staying at the same inn, one for a wedding and one for a family reunion. They fall for each other very quickly, but their families have been feuding for years. Can the plan they come up with bring their grandfather's back together and help them to forgive one another so they can be together? HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES by Rachel J. Good This story introduces us to Mark, an Amish man who loves music. When he chooses to go on the road with a band, he is banished by his family. A few years later, his manager absconds with their money and they are stranded. The rest of the group return home, but Mark cannot. He is offered a job teaching music at a youth center, where is meets a young woman who he saw at one of his events years earlier. Can he find his way back to his family, and will his super fan become more than just that?
I enjoyed all three of these stories that involve love, family, forgiveness, finding your way and of course Christmas. We Gather Together was my favourite of the group, probably because it is set at The Shadow Lake Inn, a setting from a previous trilogy that I enjoyed. It was nice to see the King family again. I liked how the two young people worked with the Kings and other members of their family to get their grandfathers to reconcile and forgive one another. A Christmas Reunion was my least favourite because it really didn't show how the relationship between Tricia and Brandt would work within the Amish beliefs. Hitting All the Right Notes was very believable and relatable. I felt bad for what happened to the band members, but you hear of that happening often in real life. I enjoyed how Mark dealt with his indecision about his family as well as having a possible relationship while struggling with his faith and path in life. There is quite a bit of Christmas in these stories with celebrations, food and fun. Lauren Pedersen does a wonderful job with the narration of this audiobook. She gives the characters individual voices, adds expression and her tone and pacing were wonderful. I enjoyed her performance of this book. If you enjoy Amish fiction, I recommend The Christmas Gathering in whatever format you prefer.
“The Christmas Gathering” features three Amish Christmas Romances by Shelley Shepard Gray, Lenora Worth, and Rachel J. Good
A CHRISTMAS REUNION by Shelley Shepard Gray
Englischer Brandt Holden is thrilled to be spending Christmas with the family of his Amish friend Mark, especially Mark’s cousin Tricia. The two have been writing to each other since last Christmas and are clearly attracted to each other but there’s one huge issue – Mark is not Amish and cannot marry Tricia unless she leaves the Amish faith. Will their love conquer all?
I usually like Shelley Shepard Gray’s works but this was my least favorite in this collection. I think it might have worked better as a full length novel where we could see the romance between the two develop from their first meeting, through their letters, and then to their next meeting. Also, I thought the Amish were way too accepting of the developments in the story. I did like some things like the scavenger hunt but even that could have been developed more.
WE GATHER TOGETHER by Lenora Worth
Lucas Myer and Kayla Hollinger meet when both of their families are staying at the same inn and become quick friends and perhaps a bit more. However, their relationship seems doomed because of a longtime feud between the two families. Lucas and Kayla have a week to reconcile their families and hopefully embark on a future together but it will take a Christmas miracle to pull it off!
This was my favorite of the three stories! It was fun, it was cute, it was romantic, and even a touch humorous. I love Lucas and Kayla as a couple and I loved the efforts of the two of them to bring their families together. Again, because it is a novella, the romance seemed a bit rushed (taking place over a week) but I still very much enjoyed it.
HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES by Rachel J. Good
Years ago, Mark left his Amish family for a career in music. He had some success, but his luck changed and now he needs a job. He not only finds a job but a romance with Joline, an Amish girl who has been a fan of his for years. Mark needs to search his heart in order to do the right thing but will Joline be part of his plans?
I enjoyed this novella which was a bit different than most Amish romances. It is short but actually takes place over a number of years and we get to see Mark and Joline develop as characters. Their romance was nicely done and not too rushed except maybe for a bit at the end. Still, I really enjoyed this story.
“The Christmas Gathering” is a nice collection of stories that are perfect to read during the holiday season.
Merry Amish Christmas 2024! The beautiful cover of this book is a sweet introduction to the collection of three stories for the holiday season. Three of my favorite authors and Kensington Books offer this set of Amish novellas. I received an advanced reader's copy through NetGalley and this is my own unsolicited opinion.
A Christmas Reunion by Shelley Shepard Gray is an interesting story surrounding a special party hosted by an Amish couple for their family and friends, including English. The Troyer's son, Mark, has invited his friend, Brandt Holden. The school guidance counselor looks forward to the gathering where he feels part of a family after taking part the year before. Mark's cousin Tricia is anxious to see if Brandt will come back. Can the two have any chance at more than a friendship? This was an interesting and different idea for a weekend party, especially with the mix of fifty Amish and English people.
We Gather Together by Lenora Worth takes us to the Shadow Lake Inn and the meeting of Kayla Hollinger and Lucas Myers. He is at the in for a reunion with his family. Kayla is there for her sister's dream wedding. The attraction between the two is heartbreakingly challenged when they realize that they are on opposing sides of their grandfather's decades long sworn enemies battle. This is quite the scenario, a family feud with an Amish Romeo and Juliet without fatal drama. Who better to help them than the King sisters and their parents? It's a cute story with strong faith at the center. The stubborn men show the reality that Amish are human, far from perfect. I really liked it.
Hitting all the Right Notes by Rachel J. Good shines a light on the strict way of life for an Amish boy who absolutely loves music. The novella does a great job of traveling over a few years' time as Mark Troyer becomes enamored with the music his English neighbors thrive on. Over time he makes decisions that separate him from his family and send him on a journey that eventually leads him to beloved series character, Mrs. Vandenberg. Rebellious Joline Lapp is a main character in this story. She is continuing on her path sneaking around her parents who run the STAR center to make her own music dream come true. This is such a good story.
I feel that this is a nice way to incorporate some quick-read Amish stories into a reader's busy Christmas season. I give the collection a 4 out of 5 stars.
The Christmas Gathering by Shelly Shepherd Gray, Lenora Worth and Rachel J. Good is a delightful Christmas novellas collection of three lovely stories by three very talented authors.
A Christmas Reunion by Shelly Shepherd Gray is a delightful fast-moving story that brings together Tricia Troyer and Brandt Holden, her cousin’s English friend as they gather for a Christmas reunion for the second year in a row. These two have been exchanging letters over the last year and have bonded in a special friendship.
Will the holidays bring a chance to explore this friendship further?
Characters are realistic and you can’t help but believe the gathering is real.
We Gather Together by Lenora Worth is the second story in this three-part collection of novellas.
As is true with a Lenora Worth story, it is unique, special, and worthy of the read.
When Lucas Myer and Kayla Hollinger meet while staying at the same inn, they discover that the two Amish families are in a feud that started years before over all things, a woman. Deciding to change things, Lucas and Kayla plot to make things right again.
The plot is interesting and the characters are realistic and fun.
I can’t wait for you to read this story. It is fantastic.
Hitting All the Right Notes by Rachel J. Good concludes this novella collection. You could not ask for a better ending to this Christmas collection.
Ms. Good shares with us Mark and Joline’s story as they struggle to move toward God and true love.
Sometimes you have to loose something dear in order to appreciate it.
All the characters are very realistic and easy to like. Of course, Mrs Vandenberg is included in this story with her uncanny relationship with God.
The story moves along smoothly and you are wanting more when it ends.
This is a definite 5-stare read for your holiday enjoyment. This title will be released on September 24, 2024.
I was given a ARC copy of this work, but I was not required to give a positive review. All ideas in this review are my own.
A CHRISTMAS REUNION by Shelley Shepard Gray ~ Rating: 4.5 stars
I loved this novella. It made me chuckle. Smile. It has all the things that make a pleasant story good. Did I have issues? Yeah, I did. The acceptance of Tricia’s parents of Brandt (an 'Englisher’) was a little too smooth. The Amish proverb given before this first story applies very well. “Pleasant days are just ordinary days made better by good people.”
WE GATHER TOGETHER by Lenora Worth ~ Rating: 2.5 stars
A short story has to have good characters and a meaningful plot. This one had too many characters. And when that happens, the plot gets lost. And with no story — well, I was glad it was a novella.
HITTING ALL THE RIGHT NOTES by Rachel J. Good ~ Rating: 3 stars
Here’s where my personal knowledge bangs against the plot … the part where Andrew is offered a job teaching piano. I have had two major careers in my life and one is a piano teacher. Just because you can play piano beautifully does not mean you can teach it. I had good teachers. A couple of awful ones. Who didn’t know HOW to teach so most of what I learned was wrong. I was a good teacher, a very good teacher but I worked hard at it and studied how to teach music concepts rather than just notes.
Overall rating: 3 stars ~ not a great recommendation. If you do decide to read this Christmas trilogy, read #2 first followed by #3, and finish with #1.
I received a complimentary DRC of “The Christmas Gathering” via NetGalley from the publisher, Kensington Publishing | Kensington. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This Christmas novella is written by three well-known authors of Amish books. I recommend it to all lovers of Amish Christmas books. Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for this advanced copy.
A Christmas Reunion by Shelley Shepard Gray centers around Tricia Troyer and her Amish family. She is excited when she finds out that an English friend of her cousin who had visited the family last Christmas would once again be joining them. Even though their backgrounds prevent them from developing a relationship, they both have developed strong feelings for one another through writing letters through the year. This story is interesting to see how this will be handled. You will not want to put this one down. I was surprised at how their relationship was resolved and felt it was out of character from other Amish books I have read.
We Gather Together by Lenora Worth is a book you will not want to put down as it centers on two Amish families who end up staying at the same Inn. One family is there for a family reunion and the other for a wedding, This book reminded me of an Amish version of the Hatfields and McCoys famly feud. You do not want to miss reading this one to see how the storyline ends. I enjoyed this one very much.
Hitting All The Right Notes by Rachel J. Good is an excellent read of hurt, forgiveness, relationships and miracles for several of the characters. This is a great book centering on Christmas miracle
Three Amish novellas all centered around Christmas.
A Christmas Reunion by Shelley Shepard Gray: Tricia Goyer is excited to see her cousin's friend at a Christmas reunion held each year by her family. One problem is he is English! This novella weaves a sweet tale about their time together and their family's reaction.
We Gather Together by Lenora Worth. Kayla Hollinger meets Lucas Myer on the shores of Lake Erie, and they discover that their family's long-standing feud is still in full swing. But they enjoy each other's company and hope to bring healing where years of division have ruled. A family reunion and a wedding seem an unlikely mix - can they pull it off?
Hitting All the Right Notes by Rachel J. Good. Andrew left the Amish community years ago to pursue his love of music but after being scammed he finds himself without a job. Now back in his hometown, he finds himself offered a job where one of his fans is employed. But she has very different ideas from him as to what the future should hold. What will become of Andrew as Christmas approaches?
I was gifted a copy of this anthology by the publisher through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I confess I was disappointed about one story line as it was not consistent with the Amish faith and how they see dating members outside their church. If you aren't concerned with realistic portrayal of the Amish, then this shouldn't be a problem

Rachel J. Good’s novella Hitting All the Right Notes brought about laughs as some Amish youth with a gift for music formed a band. An unpleasant event brought their band low, but maybe in disguise it truly was God’s plan to bring true happiness and new beginnings at the Star Center, a place for displaced youth to gather. This novella had the best faith message.
I received an ARC of this book from one of the author without any obligation to write a review. I have expressed my own thoughts.
These are three wonderful stories that are connected by the Christmas theme, but that is the only similarity. Each one is unique and wonderful read.
The Christmas Gathering by Shelley Shepard Gray Tricia and Brandt have a special connection, but there's just one small problem. Brandt is English, and Tricia is not. Theirs is a fun and engaging story of what can happen when love is at the center of everything.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.
This is a 3 stories in 1 book all dealing with families at Christmastime.
A Christmas Reunion by Shelly Shepard Gray is a story about an Amish girl being attracted to an Englisher who was invited to her Uncle and Aunt’ place over Christmas the year before and started writing letters over the year. They meet up again at the Christmas gathering and they end up in the same group for a scavenger hunt and continue to learn more about each other.

They travel around but one thing leads to another and they end up back in their hometown and all have to decide if they want to go back home and join the church.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. The review expressed here is my honest opinion.
A Christmas Reunion by Shelley Shepard Gray is one of three stories in The Christmas Gathering. The story takes place at a Christmas gathering outside of Wooster. Family and friends (Amish and English) join the Troyer family to celebrate Christmas. Tricia Troyer (Amish) and Brandt Massey (English) met at the previous year’s gathering. They have been writing letters since. The primary story is about them meeting in person again and learning more about the other amidst the activities planned for the group. I look forward to the characters in Shelley Shepard Gray’s books; they are authentic and kind people but not perfect. There is a “back story” that makes them who they are today. The book is a reminder of the reason to celebrate Christmas, a time of joy and hope. Reading the book allows a time of reflection for the upcoming holiday season. I recommend and I hope you enjoy as much as I did. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. Thank you to Net Galley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book contains three separate stories of Amish holiday time. They are sweet stories and each is different than the others. I enjoyed each of the stories. The stories were all good and I think my favorite was The Christmas Reunion. In some ways reminded me of family holiday get-togethers and there is often a "stray" person as a guest. In this case it was a non-Amish young man and how he related to the family members. The second story was about a long-standing family feud of two Amish families. It's interesting how it continues through time until...a new romance blossoms between the feuding families. The last story was about "Rebel Amish" and the problems that occurred as a group of young Amish youth start a band, which is not abiding by the Amish rules. I enjoyed all the stories and they were fun holiday reads. I received an ARC of this book from one of the authors. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
