A LOT of filler. The book could have been 1/3 its length. Also a lot of advertising for his products, like Danger Coffee and The 40 Hours of Zen Podcast.

The best takeaways you already know: box breathing and placing yourself in a past, troubling experience to make it less troubling.

Avoid this book.

I read a couple of existing reviews and saw things like "this book could have been 1/3 the length," or "redundent." These individuals did not read this book. Every single chapter is a brand new subject building on one underlying theme; creating the best version of yourself. Don't miss this one.

Love a bit of science.. mitochondria influence your mood including empathy and forgiveness!

A holistic approach to change your patterns and to do less.. better.

Your ego works from fear, an overly enthusiastic bodyguard, a deeply physical, survival responder who avoids pain.. now.. but shouldn't override all other systems to please you in the short term. It whispers self doubt. You can train it! Bring in curiosity and gratitude. Check in with yourself to reset and clear your triggers. Stay grounded and choose your response and how to live.

Triggers are echos of past hurts.

Food changes your energy and how you generally feel. The food you eat builds your body and rebuilds your DNA. Supplement when you need to.
B12 - repairs cells
D - repairs genetic code
Fats - Essential. Animal fats in particular.
Protein - mood and metabolism.

Sleep!
Biphasic sleep before the invention of light??? Interesting. The quiet window between 1-4 holds meaning in different cultures.

My best friend suggested I only read a specific chapter, but I'm so glad I followed my instinct (really, my stubbornness😅) and read the entire book. For years, I let my triggers dictate my emotions and choices without fully understanding them or knowing how to address them. This book offered the clarity and tools I didn't know I needed. It's helped me begin to unpack the "why" behind my feelings and has given me a real path toward a healthier, more intentional life. I'm both nervous and excited to try the Reset Process-but for the first time, I feel like l'm equipped to do it.

If you're carrying unresolved trauma, struggling to forgive those who've hurt you, or finding it difficult to acknowledge your emotions *and* your bad habits to fully embrace change - this book is for you.

But problems start when your ego gets too much say. It overrides your intuition, buries emotional truth, and convinces you to act out just to feel better in the short term. It'll tempt you with distractions, start fights to avoid feeling vulnerable, or whisper self-doubt when you're about to do something bold.

When your ego flares up - when you almost yell at a stranger or sabotage a relationship
- take a breath and laugh. It's funny how seriously your mind takes these things.
Humor is one of the fastest ways to shut down the ego's drama and reset your nervous system.
Love the detail! Everyone has ego but I don’t let it ruin my relationships. Especially my friendships that matter.

One of the popular buzz words in the health and wellness industry right now (2025) is “biohacking”. Biohacking can be done in several different ways and to many levels of extremes, but the summary is, the act of making your internal age younger than you actually are. Dave Asprey has spent his entire adult life being his own ginny-pig to do just that.

The book is basically one big promotion for the “40 years of Zen” 5-day program in Washington state. So much so that I actually looked into doing it! But with a $16,000 price tag, flights and boarding NOT included, I decided to pass.
