Though I'd love a professionals opinion on this book, I feel it does a great job of offering an understanding hand to people who are in genuine and all-encompassing suffering. The author is incredibly good at being compassionate and I greatly appreciate the vulnerability shown by sharing their own experiences and techniques that they themselves tried. The drawings are also pretty good - and I liked that there were warnings whenever a subject was more sensitive.

A small caveat: some information on this book, perhaps because the author has read it so long ago, is not being sourced. I understand that this is a book meant for easy reaching for those who need it, but it is precisely that what makes me hope that, should there be a next edition, some more scientific claims are actually backed - I feel we have had enough wack self-help books and I would hate seeing a good work such as this happen to follow into the same category.

Everyone has something they are going through, and that's ok. Talking about it helped me a lot.
This year, I finally asked for help.
And if you don't feel ready to talk with someone, that's fine. Take your time.

Maybe this book could help you. I know it helped me. I saw myself validated and I didn't feel alone. Someone had similar experiences.

This book will give you ideas and techniques to help you get through. Don't rush and read it according to your needs.

It is not a race, it's your life, your choice, your time.

I never thought I would read a self-help book, but here we are. This one is also part memoir, which is why it makes it more interesting and bearable to me. The author shares her struggles with mental health and her past experiences while giving some tips that hopefully will be useful to others. It isn't in depth, but it's a good first step to understanding what might be wrong and take better care of ourselves. Plus, the illustrations make this book pleasant to look at.

I am glad that this book briefly shows different ways that depression and anxiety can manifest because it took me a long time to be aware of it for myself since most people have a fixed idea of how depression and anxiety are like and don't realize it can present in opposite ways of what is commonly known.

This little book also made me aware of the difference between toxic positivity and genuine optimism. I guess it is easier to change the mind of someone that has never bought into the common toxic positivity phrases. Unfortunately, that isn't my case. The author states that she always got angry by those statements, but I believed them when they were said to me the first time so those have been coming from inside the house for years. At least now I know why it's never helpful and how to change it. It would have been worth it to read this just for that.

I don't know how helful this book would be to someone that is already aware of their struggles and that did research to get better and went to therapy. My guess is that this will not be very helpful or new in those cases, but it worked for me even if I already knew some of the information shared. I know I will still need reminders sometimes so it is kind of a comfort to have this readily available for when I need it.

The only thing that made me wary is that one of the options given to get better is to visit cult places. It is implied that this is for someone that is already religious and trusts the specific institution. However, I can't help thinking about how dangerous it is to go seek those places while being extremelly vulnerable, even though I know religion is a comfort to a lot of people. There are just too many opportunistic people for me to think this is a good option unless the person is fully capable of judging what is being said and done at the moment.

Finished this one recently and some parts really stayed with me. Quiet reminders that it’s okay to slow down, feel things, and not have it all figured out.

Saving these quotes for future me:

🤍 “Treat yourself like someone worth taking care of.”

🤍 “Poor mental health isn’t that unusual… the rhythm of our daily lives doesn’t always leave room for us to tend to our emotional wellbeing.”
→ (Note to self: make space for it. On purpose. Every day.)

🤍 “The more people you meet with different lives & experiences, the more we learn about how different brains work, the more accepting we’ll be of everyone’s differences.”

🤍 “Anxiety can look like: distracting yourself with escapism because sitting with your thoughts feels unbearable.”
→ Hello, night out and drinks. And Netflix. And scrolling until I forget what I was anxious about.

🤍 “Choose to sit with the feelings and let them be felt, instead of searching for distraction.”

🤍 “What do you need to do so you can heal?”
🤍 “Why was it so easy to lift people / your friend up but not to myself?”

Nothing life-changing, but it hit at the right time. Like a gentle nudge and a lowkey reality check without being annoying about it.

Sebelumnya untuk yang merasa tidak nyaman dengan mentions of suicide, self-harm, and any other mental illnesses, kalian harus hati-hati ketika baca buku ini, ya! Usahakan minum yang cukup!

Kisahnya (kisah author) bukan yang WOW, dumtakdungdungcess tapi keberanian dia buat bercerita tentang apa yang dialami (r: mental health issues) sejak dia masih kecil itu SUNGGUH LUAR BIASA. I am touched and proud of this book author!Thank you for not giving up on yourself and survived until today 🫶🏻

I read this book when I had a panic attack the night before my flight for a long vacay in a place that very far from home.

We can easily follow the steps and identify what we are experiencing.

So far.. I love this book! Gak rumit untuk dipahami dan bisa dijadiin a self-help go to book!

Beberapa bagian sangat menyuarakan perasaan sehari-hari. Berasa dimengerti sama penulisnya huhu.

Sangat berasa kalau penulisnya sangat berusaha membuat buku ini tu nyaman dibaca sama orang-orang yang lagi "penuh". Cocok dibaca in between kesibukan duniyawi, cozy dan comforting :)

I LOVE THIS BOOK!
when it comes to deep-self help contents, I was concern that the topic would be too hard since it discuss about mental health. but it wasn't! my personal opinion is, most people would relate to this contents, Matilda was struggle on her mental illness and she wrote her experience of how to face it based on what works for her. I think the contents are easy to absorb and practical as well. plus, her art is lit! I love a pretty book with illustrations. this book is simple but meaningful, and I do believe that everyone could read this for acknowledge every mental health issue as it would help more people to heal <3

Found this book really helpful . It’s a very cute looking littler book with some beautiful illustrations. However contains really helpful advice and tips . The style in which it’s written makes it really easy to refer back to as needed . I feel it was easy to read and wasn’t over phrasing like some self help books . I think this book will help a lot of people .

The Art of Feeling Better is an honest, relatable, and compassionate exploration of mental health. The author writes with warmth and vulnerability, sharing personal experiences alongside practical tips that feel doable rather than overwhelming. I appreciated how the advice wasn’t just “one-size-fits-all,” but instead acknowledged that everyone’s healing journey looks different.

Unsure how she can call herself a mental health specialist when she has zero empathy for the hostages and their families. All she cares about is herself and actually finds it comical that Israelis were raped and murdered.
Imagine someone who feels this way calls herself a mental health specialist.
