The newly-arrived and littlest elf at the North Pole feels lonely, fearful, and too small to do anything, until he is befriended by a kind old elf named Nicholas.
I think this is a very cute little story that shows that it doesn’t matter how small you are and how others treat you, there is still a place for you in the world. I didn’t like how the elf was afraid of Santa though, that seemed a bit far fetched and out of the ordinary.
My Review: Who can resist a cute little vintage children's book at Christmas time? This one had such cute illustrations that I just had to pick it up. The story is very cute about a little elf who has trouble completing any of the tasks he is given because he is shorter than other elves. I think this will definitely be a great book to read with littles that might have bigger siblings that can do things they can't, like hanging ornaments higher on the tree, etc. It has a sweet twist in the story that the kids will enjoy. It is also nice and soothing to read so it might help to calm down before bed as the big night approaches.
I recently started going through books from my grandmothers, reading ones both I remember and those I don't but are very old while I was babysitting a friends kid.
This is one I am don't remember this one being read to me but reading it I like it and can tell a big difference from books for children of today then those over 35 years ago.
This one stands out from the others, this is such a cute book that shows trying to fit in a world that picks on you when being not like the others and then being accepted. It also shows how people will lie to make another feel worse about themselves only to find out it is not true and only said to pick on you.
I remember this cute elf story! An elf called Alistair struggles to find his purpose when the other elves tease him for being too small to be useful in Santa’s workshop. Fortunately, he befriends an elder elf called Nicholas. Sometimes having one good friend can make all the difference in the world.
This book contains many touching lessons about friendship, making a difference and finding your place.
This adorable story is about Allister, an elf who is too small to be of much physical help around Santa's workshop. An elderly elf, Nicholas, befriends him and Allister thinks it may not be so bad to live at the North Pole, but he is afraid to meet Santa. This book gives a good reminder that there is always something you can do to help, even if it may take a while to find out what it is.

Fiction. Pre-K - 2nd Grade. I really like classic stories like this. Kids relate to the small elf that can't seem to do anything that the bigger elves can do. Yet he is important and has his own special fob that he was chosen to do. We all feel like we can't do things at times and wonder about our worth and can relate to this little elf.
It was good, too. OK pictures, nice story and I like how the littlest elf had a very good job where it didn't matter that he was small :-) Makes me feel nice about my flaws and limitations, as well. And I'm 50 :-D
I loved this story. It’s cute and lengthy for a children’s book, and it’s very encouraging for children. I know as a kid it can be discouraging to not be able to do everything and to not be taken seriously, and this story combats that for kids. (G rating)
I liked when the littlest Christmas elf found something he could do. I didn't like when the bigger elves laughed at him and stuck their tongues out at him.
I've read this before and enjoyed it once again tonight. It is a sweet book about a little elf who is too small and gets laughed at by the other elves at Santa's Workshop, but then an old elf befriends him.
Another absolute childhood favourite! I'd totally forgotten this until my mother dug it out, and then just the cover brought back SUCH a flood of lovely memories.
