One of the best books I read in preparation for the Degas exhibit at my local art museum. Very short and to the point. And color pictures.

Will definitely revisit this series in the future.

Fun. Neoclassical artist. "Map of the entire total complete world." Works I have seen - "The Bellelli Family" (Musee d'Orsay Paris) and "A Woman Seated Beside a Vase of Flowers" (Metropolitan Museum of Art NY) and "Little Dancer Aged Fourteen" (Minneapolis MN). Edgar Degas was a super-perfectonist, was never satisfied with his art and was known to keep working on some paintings even after he sold them!

Doing a child's picture book biography of an artist is hard. You've got limited space. You've got to choose how much of their life do you show as compared to their art. And then how do you show the art? Photographs seem kind of lifeless. Recreations miss the point.

This one is from a series of artist biographys. And it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. It was too thin. The font was kind of ugly. The art was all photographic reproductions. There was also some cartoon art to tell the story of Degas, but it didn't add much. There was no afterword. And there was not enough to know who Degas really was. That said, this series would still be an amazing reference to have on hand.

Previously read: currently doing catch-up.

I don't remember much of this book, even having taken notes on it.

I remember that the cartoons were well-placed, and that the selection Degas's work as primer felt suitably thorough to inspire a young audience.

I, personally, like the work of Degas but don't know much about him. In general, I could be better informed about the Impressionists.

Great resource on Edgar Degas. Used information for a power point presentation to use in January's Picture This program.
