The Rules of Time Travel #1

The Scottish Duke, the Rules of Time Travel, and Me

Rate this book
A gale rises over a forest in Scotland at the same time every day.

The year is 1670 and a young Duke has ridden out to explore the mystery. He finds, in the center of a clearing, a strange apparatus.

He reaches for it and—

In Florida, 2012, there is a repeating, daily storm.

A young storm-chaser has gone to investigate — lightning arcs, the winds howl, trees whip around her, but when the storm clears she sees a small weird piece of tech jutting out of the sand.

She reaches out and—

The portals — active in two different times, in two different places — vibrate, grab hold, and rip them both through time.

They have just learned the first Don’t touch an active portal. And thus begins a new adventure, can the Duke and the meteorologist learn the rules in enough time to rescue each other from the storms to come?

A love story mixed with contemporary and historical details, a bunch of humor, some suspenseful science fiction, and a few excellent sword-fights — the Scottish Duke and the Rules of Time Travel is a spin-off from the world of Kaitlyn and the Highlander.

A fun start to another time traveling adventures series - I am curious to see if Magnus & Kaitlyn from the Kaitlyn and the Highlander series will crossover into these stories. This first book was set between Scotland 16th & 17th centuries and Florida 2012 - I can’t remember off the top of my head what Magnus & Kaitlyn are up to in 2012 - so we shall see!😉

As usual don’t think you will get a story that ends in a HEA because we all know Diana Knightley is the grand master of cliffhanger 101, so just anticipate it.

I would have given this book a 3 rating, but then realized it was a “cliffhanger “, which I absolutely hate. The story was only so so, but if the book was complete, I probably would have finished. However, I will certainly not buy a second book just to find out what happens.

It's always sad when a book disappoints. The plot of the book was ok. A little outside the realm of believable, because it's time travel, but not bad. The writing just couldn't carry the plot. And the dialogue is where it really failed. There was too much redundancy, too much trying too hard to make it seem like realistic conversation. It just fell flat.
The editing wasn't great either. There were times when the Americans characters had bits of Scottish brogue mixed into their sentences, and the internal voice of the Duke was a mish mash, too. Not to mention a few issues with punctuation.
And then, because it's a series, we end on a cliffhanger. I won't bother to continue this series, it almost made it to my very short dnf list.
*Also, some minimal smut (but it is there) and lots of fbombs.

Oh my oh my oh my

I can't wait for book 2. I think we fans will probably run poor Diana ragged demanding she write faster.
I might be a tad biased as she's my favorite author, but I'm so excited about this series. I love that it's tied in to Kaitlyn and the Highlander but we don't yet know how the characters are tied. Maybe they aren't. We'll see. I love that the characters are nothing like KatH's characters but just as loveable. And I just can't wait for more. It isn't required that you read Kaitlyn... to read this but you can. She also has another series that's somewhat tied with these. It just makes it all just that much more fun. Nothing beats books that will make you laugh and cry. I didn't cry in this one but I did laugh though no one would deem it a comedy. It just has some great funny lines. I love it!
Enjoy!!

Time Travel and Romance

Wow! For Outlander fans, don't read it expecting that! It's a sweet beginning for the main characters Livey and His Grace! Supportive family mixed in and evil lurking in Johnne Cambell, rounds out the first of, hopefully, many adventures for these 2 characters. And just when you're in the page turning mode of, "Oh nooooo, what's going to happen next!" Bam! You have to wait for the next book. But since the journey is well worth it, wait we will! Many characters who you want to see more of and characters you want to stab in the eye. Just remember, rule #1 -don't touch an active vessel, but I wish I could to jump to September, 2023 for rhe next release. Thank you, Diana Knightley for all the adventures!

She did it again….

Once in a while you get lucky to stumble across an author that can transport you in time. This is what Diana Knightley has done, again. Nor & Livvy’s story is a fun ride, full of wonderful characters in the present and in the past. Two souls meant to find each other through time, then separated again. Can’t wait for the second book and for Livvy to find her Duke once more!!

Loved it!

A love that happens by accident. Outside forces pulling the lovers apart. This book has all the feels. Diana Knightley is an expert at weaving a tale that includes intrigue, humor, romance, and unexpected twists. The Scottish Duke, the Rules of Time Travel, and Me is an awesome book that I highly recommend!

waste of time

I love time travel books and was hoping this would measure up. Not at all. First off the accents, did not sound Scottish at all. The story could have been finished in 1/2 the pages and it is NOT a standalone! Cliffhanger! Personally, I will not keep reading, I could care less what happens to the characters as you could not see their depth! This was my first (and last) read of this authors books!

Another Lovely Curl Up by the Fire Feel Good By Diana

If you’re a fan of Diana’s, AT ALL, you will adore this book. Her characters are everything we love in her books; brave & heroic, vulnerable & beautiful.

Beware! It’s a cliffhanger! I won’t read most books/series until done, cause I hate having to wait months for the next installment. But DK’s books are so good, she gets a pass. (I know I’ll just happily reread them again.)
She has ruined me for all men, everywhere. I have the expectation of a man who will love me the way Magnus loves Kaitlyn or Nor loves Livvy. Or Liam loves Blakey, if you need a more modern twist.
Also my favorite line in the book isn’t even part of the story. It’s in the section Characters in the back of the book:
“Johnne Cambell. Sigh, not this dude again. The Original Gangster, finder of the portals. (Lady Mairead from the other series is not a fan of this dude.)”

The OG comment cracked me up to no end. And you just KNOW it’s gonna piss off Lady Mairead. Cause, yeah she doesn’t like the dude, but she for sure considers herself the OG, have no doubt. I have high hopes for a LM sighting in a future book. (And im not convinced it’s “duet” either)

Well Written and Entertaining Time Travel Romance

Diana Knightley is superb at consistently writing compelling time travel stories. She keeps her characters “in character” the entire time…they don’t make verbal mistakes like SO many other time travel writers do. If I am reading along and a medieval characters starts using modern words or phrases it drives me out of my mind and I end the book right there. Ms Knightly never does that, I have finished every book 😂 and I’ve read nearly 20 of them, she’s fantastic. I loved loved her series of the time traveling Kaitlyn and Magnus Campbell, her handsome Highlander. Somehow this new couple is related to them but I haven’t figured where in the timeline yet. Kaitlyn and Magnus were a more mature couple and I’m older so that series appealed to me a bit more while Livvy and Nor are a sweet, young couple somit felt more YA yet it will definitely appeal to all ages. That said I look forward to reading what happens next. Entertaining time travel story.

When Livvy goes to check out a storm she sees something metallic on the ground. When she touches it she is yanked into the past in Scotland. The same happens to Nor, Duke of Awe but he is coming from 1670. They both end up in 1560 and begin to try to figure out when, where and why they were there.
The many trials they go through in 3 different time periods draws them together and just when it looks like they will have a happy ending... Stay tuned for the next book in the series.

Diana Knightley writes another winner!

Diana Knightley has written another great novel. It will keep you spellbound, that you won't be able to put it down till you're done then be ticked off that you are already finished reading and have to wait for more. Very enjoyable. Can't wait for more of Nor and Livvy! Maybe Mangus and the gang can lend a hand to help rescue Nor from the diabolical Johnna Campbell! Hope the new lovebirds are separated for long!

Endearing

If you've read Kaitlyn and the Highlander you are going to love this spin off of the story (prequel?) And it will eventually need to be read so you're not lost later on. If you haven't read it yet I urge you to asap.
Something I greatly enjoyed of this story was the way Livvys family was with her and how it was so very like Nor's in the caring about them. Claray, Birdie, and Lou were very funny as well as being sweet and caring.

One crazy storm brought two people together !!

A Duke and a Weather girl what a combo right, one from one century and another one from another century! Mind blowing events brought two people together for a whirl wind romance . its a wonderful story of mystery, fantasy and true love. I recommend it with a 5 Stars review

An awesome, epic, and fun read!!!!

I loved how the love story wasn't the only part of this funny and fascinating read, but it was still a super great part of it. Sweet and spicy romance, but not overdone, and very plausible character reactions to their various encounters with danger and changing time periods, as well! A must read all around!!!

a pleasant surprise and a good story

yes, she goes back in time and meets a highlander, but it gets better. a great deal of original plotting follows. There is a villain and complications and I did not have to throw this one against the wall in response to triteness. I give her an a minus and look forward to book two.

I would have given this a higher rating if not for the ending. I do not like when the author leaves the reader in suspense at the end. You feel as if the plot of the book ended in the middle. This requires the reader to buy the next book in the series to complete the story. I doubt if I will continue with this series.

Good concept, rather choppy execution

I had ads for this books all over my facebook so I decided to give it a try.
I’m both fan of time travel and romance, so I really wanted to love it, but the choppy narrative and uneven storyline made ii difficult. Also, the “old style speech” was slowing me down.
I’m sure someone will like it, but it was wasn’t for me.

Wonderful, warm and suspenseful!

I really enjoyed this first book and am excitedly waiting for the next. I have read it twice now and find some many interesting new aspects each time. The banter amongst the siblings had me grinning. Thank you Diana for another fantastic story!

I am not even more hooked.

Great story and seems like a prequel to Kaitlyn and the Highlander which I have read each book 2 one 3 times. You could read this before or after KATH. I will be reading it again to be sure.

Love love love The Sctittish Duke, The Rules of Time Travel, and me

I go a real kick out of this one! Its a lot like Kaitlyn and Max, so easy to get the gist. I Really want to slap Johnne Campbell right across his big, fat, Entitled face. Really Really Hard!

The Scottish Duke

The Duke and Livvy found devices at the same time in different time periods. They found they were time travel things. A man wanted them so he could be ruler of the world. Fights broke out over them and now Livvy has to find the Duke.

When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure if I would like it. Turns out, I loved it, so so so hard!
Humor, drama, and romance abound. I’m so looking forward to the next book. I’m sad that I have to wait until September!

Well written and keeps your interest. Hope the author comes up with a unique twist to yet another Scottish time travel series. I'd like to continue following the story but will need to see some innovation in the sequel to do that.

very well conceived first book of a new series

The characters are quite well developed and the concept of multiple time travelers at war with each other should make for an intriguing series.

Another fun beginning of a series from this great author. I have read all of the Kaitlin and the Higlander books and loved them. Diana does not disappoint . Fun, romantic, adventuresome. Dress him in a kilt you have a winning combination.

Awesome!!!

Just so good!!! The perfect mix of love and comedy. I love these characters just as much as Kaitlyn and Magnus. Hoping all the time travelers get to meet up and tells their adventures and secrets too each other. Can not wait for the next adventure.

3.4 stars. I looooved the beginning and then it slowly started to fizzle out. We all know about time travel and leaving anachronistic items in the past all willy-nilly. It felt like it took a long time to get to the exciting part and the cliffhangered super hard.
