This rating may seem high for a cookbook of this type, but I've rated it so highly as it is a cookbook of this type!

I've never found another cookbook that does what this one does so successfully - delicious, nutritious, simple food to share with your family.

I have been using it again after being given some buttermilk (which you couldn't buy in the 80s when I purchased this book - I used to make my own) I have made two different kinds of muffins & the wholemeal pancakes with the buttermilk variation. Much to my husband's annoyance (he fancies himself as a pancake maker!) I declared these these the best pancakes I have ever eaten. Marty said the oatmeal muffins are the best I've ever made - they were like soft little pillows!

The kindly volunteers who put this cookbook together were really dedicated. Let's face it- I'm never going to make my own sausages or salami - additives be damned! & some ingredients like soy products are well out of favour. I would really like to see a more modern edition of this book & do a comparison. I would be surprised if the newer ones have the same charm as this one though, with the gorgeous calligraphy by Karen Williams Burdette and the sweet little black and white drawings.

I love this cookbook so much that mine is falling apart (make noise about getting a new one for the next gift-giving occasion!) Simple and delicious recipes for healthy foods "in as close to their natural state as possible". LLL has been such a huge part of my life, and this cookbook not only helps me nourish my family, but reading and re-reading through these recipes helps me to be a better mother and wife by reminding me to keep things simple and put people before things!

There will always be a place in my heart for La Leche League. Aside from the expected successful years of nursing all my children, I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful group of caring women. I am by far a better mother because of my association with this international organization. LLL promotes the eating of whole foods in as natural a state as possible. This book is an accumulation of recipes submitted by mothers who want to offer their families healthy eating habits.

This book is one of the major catalysts into helping me learn how to cook. The recipes are "regular" food that my kids will mostly eat. They are no nonsense and a gentle introduction to whole foods.

Lots of good healthy, easy, tasty, family recipes created by LLL mamas! The funny thing is that this book has gone through a few printings(the original LLL cookbook was called Mothers in the Kitchen), and you can see the evolution of health fads by reading them. In Mothrs in the Kitchen one is encouraged to add powdered milk to just about everything, in the original WFWF(1981) it's wheat germ. No one ingredient stands out in this edition for me, maybe we have wised up about single "magic" foods? or perhaps it will stand out for me in 15 years when things have changed agian. It does have a lot of recipes with soy/tofu.........

Green Spaghetti... it's my secret! I can get any child to eat spinach and the recipe is in this, my absolute favorite cook book.

Lots of great recipes.

The most used section in the book is titled, "It's 4 o'clock" which is what happens in my house all the time! Quick & Tasty Meals.

This is a surprisingly good basic cookbook with many easy to make and healthy recipes. I picked up a different edition many years ago at a used bookstore and still use it. I was never a part of the La Leche League- just love the book.

Most excellent cook book. Create nutritious meals that appeal to all. Modifications can be made with ingredients to "ease" your family in to whole foods.
I have been utilizing this cook book for 28 years and still feel confident giving it as a gift. I use it still at least twice a week.

As a Mom, I've found this to be a must have cookbook. I like the back of the book where it groups recipes into categories like "It's Four O' Clock," containing recipes that can be ready to eat within an hour.
