Loved this book! Perfect for people who have a hard time saving their money. For making money, this is the perfect book for you! It helped me think about how to make, save, and when to spend my money. This is one of the best books, with A Smart Girl's Guide to Middle School, and A Smart Girl's Guide to Knowing What To Say.
This is a fun book. I got it a couple of years ago and used one of the ideas. My friends and i want to have a stand and sell things now that i have shown them this book. It is a very good read, and it is helpful. I like reading it over and over again. The quizzes are really fun.
This book is very helpful. I learned all about money and how to make it, save it and spend it. I also learned about "plastic money"! (BTW I'm SOOO looking forward to getting my own ATM card!) I started a buisness and used all of the tips and organization tricks, and let's say, buisness is booming!
This book is for young girls to learn the values of money, how to save it, gave it, earn it, spend it, budget it, and how to deal with money when you do the whole process. It will teach you all you need to know about money at a young age.
This book is good and I can relate to it because when I was 10 I use to get a lot of money for my birthday and the holidays, I wouldn't know how to spend it and I would spend it on the things you don't need. Now I realize that I could of used that know and used it when I need it instead of buying useless things.
I would rate this book a 4 because it has no plot, but it has a lesson and a great purpose. It explains well on how to use money and the way you would want to use it to help you later on. These things are useful and I could still use them now!
Good financial advice for young girls. I wish I had read this when I was younger. I'm going to give it to my little sister and hope she doesn't make the same money mistakes I have!
I have had this book forever, and just decided to read it. Overall, it was full of good ideas and suggestions, but not truly realistic for me. Four stars!
It's....not bad. There's a brief section on investment at the end which is shockingly age-appropriate. In these few words, kids might actually understand an oversimplified view on investments and how to participate in investing themselves.
The section on ideas to earn money clearly shows this book is geared for older girls (or those whose parents are willing to do just about everything for them). Logistics are not easy, even for adults. While it seems easy to walk a dog, it's a lot harder to understand how to market the business, schedule the business, keep track of money going in AND OUT (supplies as well as labor)and deal with the hiccups.
The book really shines when it talks about spending habits. Holyoke covers how emotions as well family background all tie into the hows and whys of spending and saving money. Girls especially want to know how to navigate the social conversation around money, and the book certainly addresses this. My only complaint is that it takes the "soft" view of making sure everyone feels comfortable with their money conversation instead of empowered.
In A Smart Girl's Guide to Money: How to Make It, Save it, And Spent It , American Girl offers a guide book about navigating finances. The book is composed of child-friendly illustrations, quizzes, case studies and advice designed to help young readers better understand smart money management. From money making ideas and good money habits to budgeting, contracts and uncovering your money spending personality, this book helps young readers reflect on their relationship with money and learn to make more intentional financial decisions.
A smart girl's guide to money challenges readers to reflect on their income generating and spending habits to help hone their financial literacy. In my youth, though it sometimes felt like homework, I enjoyed the quizzes and interactive components. Nearly 15 books after this book was originally published, it is still more relevant than ever. Financial literacy remains absent from most elementary and high school curriculum but A smart girl's guide to money offers a practical introduction to the world of finance.
Recognizing that this book was written in 2007, there are some equity and social inclusion blind spots that could be addressed in an updated version.
I'm old and I wish when I was younger that I had books like "A Smart Girl's Guide" because some of these entries in this series are filled with golden advice. So it is with this entry on "Money." I may have a few quibbles but that's probably only because it is advice found too late. Otherwise, this is an interesting and intelligent book of advice on one of the most tricky of subjects. It may be for the "Smart Girl" but it is also worth a look by an older woman. Really well done.
It helps kids learn about the value of money. It helps you learn to save money for when you are older. The book has very interesting examples on how to make, save and spend money when you are shopping.
Good, age appropriate advice for girls aged 8-14 on ways to make and save money, as well as thought-provoking questions they should ask themselves about how they should spend it. It's a great starting point to teach your child money management skills.
This is perfect for teaching young girls about money. If things don't drastically change between now and when I have a daughter, then this would be on her reading list.
This was great for my tweens. We read it aloud together and did all the quizzes together. Prompted a lot of good discussions about shopping, spending, saving.
This book is great for kids who want to acknowledge more about money and how to spend it, save it, and make it. You can learn how to differentiate from buying what you need and want. You can also learn what credit and debit cards are and what they are used for. There are also quizzes on how you can test yourself on what you are like; a person who spends money freely or knowledgeable about money!!!
This was probably the most boring book I have ever read. I know it is suppose to be boring because it is an informational book. But the writer tried to make it interesting which just made it more boring. It is about saving money, how to get money etc. I wish I could give the book no stars but I can't. And in the middle of the book I wanted to just stop reading but I didn't because at school we need to read 12 books every trimester and 36 books a year in certain categories.
There were things I liked about this book and def. things that I didn't like. On that note, I feel that this book should be a gift to any young girl out there. The thing that I liked most about this book was the quizzes that were included and discussions about entrepreneurship to our young girls. There was some talking down, but it was far more impacted by the other discussions.
This book is really great! It gives kids a good understanding of how to start a business (dog walking, lawn mowing, cookie selling, etc) and make money for themselves. Targeted specifically towards girls.
i gave this book four stars wondering why? Well i thought this was a okay book but most of the things in here i knew Nancy Holyoke did a nice job.... at the book this is great for 7 and up, pretty easy read!
