Cyber Dreams #4

There’s no such thing as a cyborg vacation in the fourth installment of this action-packed sci-fi adventure from the author of the Victor of Tucson series.

Juliet Bianchi used to be a lowly scrap scrounger in Arizona. But when she was accidentally implanted with a beyond-awesome AI chip, her life changed dramatically—what with all the nanotechnology, bodywork, and other badass enhancements. Now she’s a high-powered weapon-for-hire in hiding as . . . what else? A not-so-lowly scrap scrounger!

When a new gig calls for her to climb aboard a swanky cruise ship on its way to Io, Juliet is more than happy to live the high life for a little while. And it gives her a chance to test out her latest upgrades, which just so happen to include telekinesis and mind-reading. Unfortunately, with great power comes some sort of responsibility.

Because when Juliet tries out her new mental mojo on a crowd of passengers, she picks up some unwanted intel. It seems there’s an assassin onboard who’s on their way to make a hit. Juliet will have to balance being a cold-blooded mercenary herself with stopping a fellow killer. And then things actually get complicated . . .

The fourth volume of the hit cyberpunk series—with more than a million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Plum Parrot is the pen name of author MC Gallup, who grew up in Southern Arizona and spent much of his youth wandering around the Sonoran Desert, hunting imaginary monsters and building forts. He studied creative writing at the University of Arizona and, for a number of years, attempted to teach middle schoolers to love literature and write their own stories. If he's not out walking his Airedale Terrier, you can find Gallup writing, reading his favorite authors, or playing D&D with friends and family.

The author finally broke me on this one. I mean, I'm used to Juliet throwing herself into deadly peril for random strangers at this point, but a mission to infiltrate some pirates in order to rescue someone's daughter that they're just convinced didn't really mean to run away from home to join those preying on innocents? It's just so far fetched. Infiltrating space pirates sounds like a lot of story elements I'm just not interested in and with a flimsy excuse for an author manipulation as the impetus, I'm just tired. Tired of the author thinking they don't need to try very hard to get Juliet to do something dumb.

And don't get me started on the cyborg hunting her. It was pure manipulation that had him surviving their confrontation in the last book and making him a threat in this one is just pissing me off.

I hadn't planned on a dnf, but I find myself reluctant to pick it back up. And that's always a sign that it's time to move on. One star because it took some work to make me this tired of going back to the random charity trough.

Another great addition to the series. When people ask what litrpgs they should read, I frequently reply "anything by Plum Parrot" and that still holds completely true.

Amazing! Don't want to stop reading.

Yeah, I've basically binged through the last four books in less than a week. Looking forward to reading the next one.
Characters are great, world is great, everything is described well, feel like I can connect with The main character the way the author writes.

I loved it... I found the book 1 of the Serie to be enjoyable and that the Serie has really improved on it starting with book 2 that I found excellent. Same for book 3 and 4. I can't wait for book 5!

Great story as per usual
Plum Parrot has quickly become one of my most anticipated authors of late. They've created such an amazing, futuristic, expansive universe of humanity that our beloved MC has to make her way thru, along with her ever present companion Angel. One of the things i appreciate most about Plum Parrot is how they put out their books in a very reasonable amount of time. It shows me their consistent and commited to us readers to give us their work to enjoy as quickly as possible which you dont get very often with alot of authors these days. And the product doesnt suffer for it.
In this book Juliette is doing a kind of training program with one of Alices friends in order to show she can handle piloting the gun ship and ends up being roped into a very high risk job going undercover with some pirates. Shes also being hunted by several demons from her past and runs into several more complications along the way. This is what i love about this series so much. It flows so naturally and the quality of the story never suffer or feels like its filler. Everything that happens comes with consequences and or benefits and it brings the story along very nicely. So i don't want to give any spoilers but there is a part in this book where something huge lands in Juliettes lap and im excited to see where that goes. Really great arc for the story and im looking forward to figuring out what happens. All love from me🖖

What starts as an attempt to relax and train herself to be a pilot quickly devolves into a huge smash-up and nasty turn of events. It's also a chance for her to power up.

And she absolutely does.

It's still very Cyberpunk, but by now, late-game Cyberpunk, or what possibly could have happened had the game more scope. I'm really enjoying it. But by now, it's veered into Starfield territory, complete with the same cyberpunk elements, but also pirate infiltration and piloting. Quite good. Also starting to get rather disturbing when it comes to the psychological effects on our MC.

My fav author hands down

This is one of my fav authors and their two series I've read, this one, and Victor of Tucson, two of my fav. They write deeply layered stories with deeply layered characters and beautiful emotional depth... They dig deep into these characters... They have emotional fleshed out real personalities that make you believe and immersion in the worlds created is total. Highly recommend

The harshness of most humans, a corporate-controlled society and the violent Universe are resulting in more ruthlessness in Juliet our heroine. Borrow book using Kindle Unlimited, Read this Kindle book using Alexa audio asset.

Excellent book

Another excellent book in the series. One of the best I've ever read in the genre. Plus, it's cyberpunk which is very different from similar books which are mostly fantasy.

Dark sci-fi

This is an excellent sf series, but it doesn’t pull any punches - people die or get maimed in this dystopean future.
