Terror awaits all ye who read The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror: From Beyond the Grave. This collection of Simpsons Halloween comics contains 14 terrifying short stories. Varying in length and subject, the stories feature everything from mutated monsters, to cursed objects, to woodland fairies. Yet while it’s quite imaginative, the writing is fairly mediocre; due in part to the restrictions of the vignette structure. Also, the quality of the artwork can be really rough at times, and has no consistency in tone or style. Still, there are plenty of spooks and laughs to be had as the Simpsons get into all sorts of shenanigans in The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror: From Beyond the Grave.
It's a nice little read if you like The Simpsons and the Treehouse of Horror stories. The art style is nice, I especially liked the art from the last story about Willie, and the humor is decent. I liked some of the jokes and didn't care about the rest, which is the same reaction I have when I'm watching the show, so I can't complain. The stories are entertaining and as goofy as you would expect of Treehouse of Horror, so if you like them this is a good example of how they translate into the comic form.
I think my favorite thing about the Simpsons comics is that it really does feel like you are just reading a short skit from a real episode. The artwoek styles are always super fun to look at, and while some stories are just alright, these are always such a fun read if you grew up with the show lile I did. It's fun to read all the panels in the character's voices and see what the different artist and writers do!
Bought this for my sister’s birthday (she is a huge Simpsons and Halloween fan) and did a quick read through for a brain break. The comics are a mix of really funny and just okay. There is some nice artwork that if she chooses not to read the book, she may be able to frame.
Love how dark the stories got at one point. Also love my brain for being able to read all the characters with their voices from the show. Def will pick up the other comics
There are some very fun stories in here; a highlight is when Simpson characters get pulled into other fantasy and science fiction TVs and movies. Some of the other stories didn't work quite so well (the Jaws takeoff, for example), but overall this collection is fun and silly. Some surprisingly high-end authors and illustrators take part, to varying effect, but most of the stories feel like Simpsons Treehouse of terror stories, which is the best compliment you can provide.
I really enjoyed this book. I don't care how many they put out I have love The Simpsons since I was a small child. It never gets old. Then I found out there was a comic?! I was hooked. Wonderful short stories, some playing off of recent events. Wonderful way to laugh, must read.
