I enjoyed this book immensely. It was an easy read and the perfect follow-up, packed with plenty of action. The romance was delightful, and I found myself smiling throughout. I'm now eagerly anticipating the next book!

P.S. Rowan from The Rogue Valkyrie makes a brief appearance!

I've been awaiting this book for a while, and it did not disappoint! All the characters I fell in love with in book 1, plus some new ones to love and hate.

The development of Maeve's growing self-awareness as she comes into her power is beautifully done, and things with Ben? I was cheering the whole way through. A healthy relationship with honesty and teamwork?? Yes please!!

I need to know what happens next. Maeve's abilities! The family curse! Her dad's reaction to her forbidden relationship! I want it all!

I will now be over here, very (im)patiently awaiting the finale.

You like action? You got it! You like forbidden romance? You got it! You like friends that have your back? You got it! You like humour? You got it! You like disfunctional families? You got it! Feuds, curses and passion abound! You've even got a Phoenix! Yep, this book got it all! In fact, I don't think there's anything that will leave you wanting in this book! From the superbly crafted plot, to the breathtaking moments, both emotionally and physically, THIS book will wrap itself around all your senses and leave you with a burning desire for the next book! Which, thankfully, isn't far away! This book is packed to the brim in awesomeness! The author had me glued from word one, I couldn't, WOULDN'T let go until I'd read it to the end. And golly gee, don't expect anything expected in this book, the unexpected bursts through time and time again, ensnaring me even further!

I love how the book picks up straight after the first book, with the ongoing battle of Maeve and Ben trying to keep their...ummmm... romance a secret. Why, you wonder? Well, they are from feuding families, families who would do way more than cringe if they found out about them, so yeah, secret it is. I adore these two! Maeve is so strong willed yet turns to putty from just one look by Ben. She wants the feud to end, she wants it badly! Not only to enable her and Ben to be together but she doesn't want any more deaths, a death that occurs each time a baby is born. Except, her family, the Arrowoods and Ben's family, the Everhart's have turned the loathing into a tradition and can't see past their noses! It doesn't stop Ben and Maeve sneaking around, getting into trouble, trying to solve yet another mystery and spend as much time together as they can. Which is great, until Maeve almost loses herself to her mermaid. Oh, did I mention she's a mermaid? A mermaid who's only recently discovered she is one.... so yet another secret she's holding on to. Only a few people know, Ben is one and her two besties Allison and Kira do too.

I love Ali and Kira, they are such good friends to Maeve, non judgemental, caring and incredible fun. Love the protectiveness they show for each other, these are friends made in heaven! I was so excited when Ali got a love interest, Frederick. He displayed all the right moves, loving, affectionate, a real charmer. Remember I said to expect the unexpected? Well.... you just ain't gonna believe me, you're gonna want to read it first hand! Well things really get messy for Maeve really really quickly! And again, not as one would expect it, there's a phoenix and a phoenix egg in the mix, there's someone stealing cuttings from the tree of life, there's Maeve being apprehended, there's betrayal from a family member, yep, MESSY! But awesome messy and seeing the characters trying to sift through the mess had lots of humourous moments. I can't NOT mention a very important arrow....an arrow that screeches blue murder night in and night out that eventually they bring in a curse breaker, but to no avail. It was AWESOME to see Rowan again making a brief appearance (from a different series by this author)

I love the ease of this author's writing, her knack for taking me to new heights, on an adventure she laid out so perfectly, that I cannot wait to jump on board the next one she sends me on! Excitement from start to finish! This is a series you DON'T want to miss so get it!

Rosie Wylor-Owen has done it again. Arcane Waters is not just a worthy sequel; it's a powerful, high-stakes escalation that takes everything we loved about the first book and plunges it into deeper, more dangerous, and utterly captivating waters. From the very first chapter, the tension is coiled tight, and it never lets go.
Picking up after the explosive events of the first book, the fragile, secret connection between Maeve Arrowood and Ben Everhart is the beating, terrified heart of this story. The line, "If my family finds out I’m sleeping with the enemy, I’m toast," isn't just a catchy hook it's the constant, suffocating reality that fuels every stolen glance and whispered conversation. Wylor-Owen masterfully captures the delicious agony of a forbidden romance, where every moment of connection is laced with the potential for catastrophic discovery. The "us against the world" dynamic here is palpable and heart-wrenching, making their partnership feel both thrilling and desperately fragile.
The world-building continues to shine. Dusk Island, with its blend of magical commerce and hidden black-market dealings, feels more alive and perilous than ever. The destruction of the antique shop isn't just a crime; it's a terrifying signal that the island's fragile peace is cracking. But the true stroke of genius is the introduction of the phoenix egg subplot. The theft from the Tree of Life is a masterclass in raising the stakes—transforming a family feud into an island-wide catastrophe. The phoenix's wrath is not just a plot device; it’s a primal, terrifying force of nature that serves as a perfect metaphor for the explosive consequences of the families' war. The idea of a curse "the likes of which Dusk has never seen" had me flying through the pages, desperate to see what form this magical retribution would take.
What truly impressed me about Arcane Waters is how the author balances the macro and the micro. On one hand, we have a high-fantasy mystery with a ticking clock and the threat of total ruin. On the other, we have the intensely personal, claustrophobic drama of two people forced to investigate their own families, suspecting the very people they love of unthinkable treachery. Maeve and Ben's internal conflict their loyalty to their blood versus their growing belief in each other and the truth is rendered with such nuanced agony. It adds a profound layer of emotional depth to the magical sleuthing.
The pacing is impeccable, weaving together moments of breathless action, tender intimacy, and clever investigative work. The magic system remains consistent and creative, and the new threats introduced feel organic and deeply woven into the island's lore.
Arcane Waters is a triumph of the series format. It deepens character relationships, expands the world in thrilling ways, and raises the stakes to a nail-biting crescendo that left me immediately desperate for Book 3. Wylor-Owen has crafted a sequel that honors its predecessor while boldly charting its own, more dangerous course. To the author: you have bottled lightning and phoenix fire once again. This is fantasy romance at its most addictive.

Welcome back to the island of Dusk. Situated “somewhere” in the UK, it’s a place where the magical is commonplace. Mermaid covens patrol the waters, dryads protect nature, witches produce potions, and faeries live in magical trees. For generations, the only real trouble a resident needed to look out for was being caught in the crossfire between the Arrowwoods and the Everharts, but all of that has changed now.

The families’ shared curse has upped the ante, with the Arrowwoods’ arrow holding nearly nightly primal scream therapy sessions that won’t stop until all of the family is in the room. Between sleepless nights, being more comfortable sleeping in the pool, and her budding romance with “the enemy” Maeva Arrowwood has been juggling quite a lot.

Maeve Atwood had been living in London for the past few years working with a scuba diving agency that helps police recover dead bodies from in and around waterways. Having left Dusk to get away from the feud, she’d never wanted it to define her the way it does all of her relatives. But when a new baby came, the curse once again reared its ugly head and had brought Maeve back into the fold. Now Maeve’s working with her dad at the scuba shop, helping the police from time to time, and generally trying to enjoy being back home.

When the head of the mermaids discloses to Maeve that she’s found garbage in the ocean from the making of dark potions and dangerous elixirs, Maeve and Ben realize that the arcane black market that they’d hoped had been quashed after their last adventure is not only still up and running, but gaining a stronger foothold every day. Thanks to her budding mermaid powers (still haven’t told Dad about that one…) Maeve finds hessian bags with dangerous potions and materials used only for the most violent of intents, in her family home!

When things that can only be ingredients to nefarious results, the whole island goes on lockdown, just when peace talks between the families were looking possible. So much for peace between the families now! Can Maeve and Ben find this black market privateer and set things on Dusk back to rights?

“Arcane Waters” is the second book in Rosie Wylor-Owen’s Moonlight Mermaid trilogy and it’s an absolute tidal wave of fun! As with the freshman effort of this series, the reader is drawn in with the action, well-developed characters, unique settings, and original take on the classic lore. The book is spicy, in all the right ways, and just keeps getting spicier, with a kickass female protagonist who’s tougher than she looks and has secrets she needs kept! I genuinely enjoyed reading this book from start to finish and highly recommend it to anyone who’s a fan of urban fantasy, enemies-to-lovers themes, and/or a spicy murder mystery. Enjoy! Personally, I’m really looking forward to the third book!

"Arcane Waters," the second installment in Rosie Wylor-Owen's Moonlight Mermaid trilogy, is an exhilarating whirlpool of excitement! Building upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, this book immerses readers in a world brimming with action, well-crafted characters, imaginative settings, and a fresh take on classic lore.

The story unfolds with a tantalizing blend of spice, drawing readers deeper into a narrative that only grows hotter with each turn of the page. At the heart of it all is a kickass female protagonist, whose resilience and hidden depths add layers of intrigue to an already captivating tale.

From start to finish, I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the adventures of Maeve and Ben, relishing every moment of the drama and excitement they encounter. With enemies-to-lovers themes and a spicy murder mystery thrown into the mix, this book is a must-read for fans of urban fantasy and thrilling romantic escapades.

Wylor-Owen's storytelling prowess shines through as the plot twists and turns, leading us down unexpected paths filled with intrigue and mayhem. As the curse deepens and tensions escalate, the characters grow even more endearing, keeping readers hooked until the very last page.

With secrets unraveling and tensions reaching a boiling point, "Arcane Waters" sets the stage for an explosive conclusion. Capricious fae, intricate family dynamics, and scheming outsiders add layers of suspense and excitement, making this book a captivating read from beginning to end. I eagerly await the next chapter in this thrilling series!.

This second book in the series feels as if we’re now fully invested in Maeve and Ben’s relationship and the need to break the curse that threatens both of their families.

Maeve is becoming more aware of her inherent abilities as a mermaid, (although she still has a way to go with understanding exactly what she is capable of) and how she can use them. She longs to know more about her mother and what happened to her. She also realises how much Ben means to her and how important it is to break the curse, not only for her family’s sake, but also for any hopes for their future.

The repercussions of the curse are much wider than first realised, as events lead Maeve and Ben to investigate more into the activities of those selling dark magic potion ingredients, which we learned about in book one.

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the characters better, becoming more invested in them. The bonds between Maeve and her friends are an important part of the story and are very strong. Maeve’s family are complex and haven’t yet fully realised how strong she is and how much they need to trust her if they want a better future.

There are some big developments and lots of excitement in this book and I am really looking forward to discovering how things unfold, (as there is a real sense of much more to come) and to finding out if/how Maeve and Ben can bring their relationship out into the open and bring their families together.

New things are happening for Maeve. Not only are her mermaid powers evolving but the curse has evolved as well. The arrow that is in the center of this dueling family curse is screaming in the middle of the night after laying still for centuries. A curse breaker is hired to look over the arrow and gives some shocking revelations that Maeve is more than happy to spearhead if it means resolving this curse forever. Armed with this knowledge, she teams up with Ben Everhart, her boyfriend and family member of the other half of this feud. The idea that they can finally not hide their relationship is a hope they both want. However, things are never simple and the magical black market is making issues for everyone on the island.

Set about a month after the last book we see Maeve and Ben trying to move forward while still hiding in the dark. They are given the pieces to try and fix their family but they have so much resistance to overcome. Maeve is still hiding the mermaid discovery from her family and it is going to be a meltdown when her dad finds out. As ever, Allison and Kira are the best friends anyone should have and I love them dearly. The characters are still as appealing as they were in the first book and I am still absorbed in each chapter until I get to the end needing more.

Another amazing book in this series! There is so much packed into this book!! The curse really kicks it up a notch, with the statues in both the Arrowood and Everhart houses shrieking in the middle of the night and waking up the families just about every night. After hiring a professional curse breaker (With a cameo from a character from a previous series which I haven't gotten to yet but was still excited to see in this book!), they find out that there are souls trapped in there! There are more dark magic ingredients and spells being sold on the island - even to members of both of the feuding families! Maeve and Ben must try to make peace between the families while trying to solve one mystery after another - all while trying not to be seen together.
I love how this book really delves into Maeve's mermaid side. She is finally starting to figure things out and get a sense of all her gifts, after a mishap or 2. And Ben is such a supportive, understanding and sweet boyfriend!! They really are perfect for each other! And her friends are absolutely loyal and better than her family to her!
There was a lot of action, drama and surprises in this book! I did not even see this one coming! And I could not put it down! It's one of those books you start to read and it's so easy to get lost in it that you realize it's past your bedtime! I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Wow! These books are just so fun!

Maeve and Ben are back. Their respective families still hate each other, and the two lovers are still sneaking around. But things are afoot. There's a new black market in town, and it's possible that someone in Maeve's family might be buying scary spell ingredients.

To make matters worse, her mermaid side is demanding to be let out, and that's hard because she doesn't dare destroy her mother's memory by revealing that to the family.

Worse than that, someone has cut branches from the Tree of Life, and the Fae are ready to drive everyone out of their forest.

It's up to our two sleuths, Ben and Maeve to work together to solve this one, only it's convoluted and increasingly dangerous.

Rosie has done it again! Written an unputdownable PNR with tons of action, angst, and romance!
If you want a fun, light read, that still has high stakes, and romance, you want to grab this series today!

A great continuation of the story started in the first book of the series. The budding relationship between the enemies turned lovers is continuing to mature.

I am appreciative that I was once again able to read this before the official release. The next book in the series will be the last and I can’t wait to find out how it all ends.

How will Maeve’s dad and family react to finding out she’s a mermaid? About her relationship with Ben? Will both families all get out of the curse alive?

I was so darn excited about this book, and I might have been a little overexcited when I got it. It was great to see Ben and Maeve again, as well as the other members of the town of Dust. This time, they find that there’s still a dark magic user at work in their town, and they need to find out who it is. Poor Maeve finds some dark magic ingredients, and it’s in her own home. What follows is a mad dash for Maeve to save her town, sneak around with Ben, maybe get a peace accord going, and learn about her newly unmasked powers. This is a fun second book: well-written, interesting, a little steamy, and the end was very…blue. A clue for the next book. LOL! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This book picks right up where Midnight Waters left off and keeps the story running at a fast pace. There is a bit of something for everyone here, with a forbidden love, a family feud, a mystery to be solved, fast paced action and secrets galore. You won't find time to be bored reading this book!

The romance between Maeve and Ben is coming along nicely. I did sometimes feel like I would have liked a little more depth to Ben though, other than just a big muscled, supportive boyfriend, who tells funny one-liners. But I think part 3, Forbidden Waters, has the potential for him to play a big part in the conclusion of the trilogy, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all ends.

Thank you to Rosie Wylor-Owen for my copy of this ebook. I am voluntarily writing this review.

Maeve and Ben are back with another mystery to solve. Black market magic and an upset phoenix have them scrambling for answers while trying to keep their relationship a secret from their feuding families.
Sequels often have a tendency to disappoint, but I loved this book as much as I loved Midnight Waters. The characters have more growth here, which I love to see, and Kira and Allison are the best, most loyal friends Maeve could ever hope for. Ben is so sweet, and I love their moments together. I'm eagerly awaiting book three!

Another amazing book in this trilogy of cozy mystery mixed with urban fantasy and some spicy paranormal romance! The mystery was again very well-thought-out and I was both heartbroken and surprised with the reveal. Maeve and Ben's romance continues to be spicy, spicy, and wow... in the library!?!? Hot!! The feuding families seemed like they might be open to a conversation, and I wonder how that will progress in the final book of the trilogy. With the explosive ending of this book, there are a lot of plot threads that we will need to see resolved in the next one as well. I can't wait to pick it up! Arcane Waters

Home Run! This was just as good as the first one. I loved it. Lots of action and twists and turns. New curses added to find out the cures for as well as the old one which is hanging on strong. Black market potions are on the rise endangering not just our two main families but the entire island. We have more romance for our mermaid and Ben. Some very important information comes to light towards the end of the book. I can't wait to start the next. I stayed up all night finishing this one. Holds your attention clear through from start to end. You want to see what's next. You start speed reading so you can find out what's going to happen next. Great read.

This book is so good that I finished it in two days!!
I'm really enjoying Maeves story, she's coming to understand her new abilities and how to use them, but between keeping then and her new relationship a secret from her family and his is getting more difficult each day. Now there's more trouble happening in town she teams up with Ben to try and figure out what is going on and who is behind it.
Then, just as they have an idea on who's behind, they realise more is at stake than they first thought, a new curse is bestowed which is now worse then the one that's already in effect. Can't wait for Meaves' next book.

This is a flawless continuiing of the story. I loved the romance, did not see the cursetwist coming and the spectacular end of the book was a big surprise. What a bunch of secrets to keep for Maeve. Without the extra luck from her boyfriend she could not have survived this. While reading the book secrets come out but more of them are discovered. Intricate plotbuilding, lots of adventures and villains to hunt. What can Meave discover next with Ben and her friends at her side. I cannot wait for the next installment.

I am really enjoying this series and can't wait to find out how it ends.

Maeve and Ben are from feuding families and are still secretly seeing each other. It has been discovered that if the two families make peace the duel curse will be lifted. They nearly managed to get a written truce when it was interrupted by a mythical creature who was extremely angry. The two lovers work together to solve the problem, but people they thought they could trust proved otherwise.

The curse strikes again! This book was so good. our star crossed lovers are trying to break the curse on their families but no one is making it easy. The black market is still active and a threat to the island, Ben and Mauve are trying to put out fires as they come but more issues pop up.

This books is a fun ride from begining to end. The characters are believable and lively. It's like if Romeo and Juliet decided to fight for their love instead of raising their lives. I'm so excited for book 3

I love Meave and Ben, they are so great together ❤
The twists in this book are clever, you definitely won't see one of them coming!!
Kira and Allison have their parts to play, where is a girl without her besties?!
Even Adrian.. Watch this space!
We are left on a cliff hanger, but it's exciting and I love the anticipation for the next book!

Rosie sure does know her craft. Get ready for a read that sucks you instantly into a different world. The world that is DUSK.
This is one heck of a rollercoaster installment. The twists, turns and me saying out loud, "no way, never saw that coming," along with my laughter, had my head reeling. In a fantastic way.
From one page to the next, with the evilness, stubbornness, romance and trying to hide secrets, I couldn’t put it down I was so engrossed.
Without a doubt one click worthy no matter where you purchase. It's a winner.

This book was the perfect continuation of the series, yet at the same time, I still can't get enough of these characters! Maeve and Ben have a new mystery to solve while they try to keep their romance going and their families from destroying one another. This book had the perfect mix of mystery and spice, and I couldn't put it down! I had to find out what happens. While book 2 answered some of my questions, it also left more, and I'm excited for book 3!.

I did not read book one, but reading this book has me hooked! These two magical families with members who are secretly dating made for some very interesting situations. While trying to not get found out and trying to solve a family curse, they find some dangerous things that threaten both of their families. A island full of magicals all trying to find the truth. Can they solve this mystery and survive.? The answers are in the next in the series, but I will enjoy continuing.

I could not put this book down. Every chapter had me going 'well I can't leave it like this, just one more chapter'.Oh my goodness this series keeps getting better and better. I was once again drawn into Maeve's life on Dusk, I could not anticipate how fully this book took over my brain. The island of Dusk is such a living breathing place to me at this point. All that had me having all of the feels. I highly recommend this series for anyone end of sentence.

Really enjoyed this continuation of Maeve and Ben's story and the families feud and that ending got me excited for the next book.

I was really shocked with the way this book went and who the bad guys were, what a twist.

I would love to learn a bit more about the merfolk and spend a bit more time with Ben's family and get to know them especially Adrian.

Can't wait to see what happens next, enjoyable read

Maeve and Ben are back and dealing with their families, their romance and a crazy magic causing trouble. These two were a hoot as they search for answers and deal with their families. I laughed and groaned and was entertained the whole time. Easy to read and get sucked into the story. Another great story I had to see how it would end and who the bad guy would be. Plus get to learn more about their curse and the crazy characters on the island.

Unforeseen evil!

Dark magic threatens to swallow Dusk. Is it related to the curse on the Arrowood and Everhart households? Maeve and Ben have a new plan to end the blood feud between their families but other evils are at play. Secrets are uncovered and fierce battles are fought.

I liked the interactions between Maeve and Ben and between Maeve and her friends. The magic is powerful and the mystery is well thought out. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

Maeve and Ben

Truce and Consequences

Maeve and Ben are getting closer and get their families to agree to meet for a truce agreement. Of course that doesn't go as planned. Maeve is dealing with her mermaid side with unforeseen circumstances. Book 2 sees more coven distrust; distrustful and shady characters; family betrayal; surprise support; and a big bang. This is one you can't put down!.
