In nearly two hundred fifty years, I've seen just about everything.
Until I was proven very, very wrong.
The peace treaty between vampires and werewolves is relatively new and extremely fragile. After a werewolf's body turns up in a Texas coastal swamp, drained of blood and with fang marks on its neck, Adam Chessman, the Vampire Council's Chief Enforcer, is dispatched to investigate.
The local pack wants Adam dead, in retribution for their loss.
The local pack is the least of Adam's worries.
With the help of an extremely unusual shapeshifter, Adam is forced to hunt the impossible. It isn't just the peace treaty between paranormal races that's at stake. Ultimately, all of mankind could be destroyed.
Connie Suttle lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three cats.
Connie holds an MFA in Fine Art (film production and animation) and taught courses at the university level before moving on to bookstore management. Nowadays, if she isn't writing or editing, she's dreaming up her next book.
The beginning for Adam and Kiarra. Saa Thalarr are the fighters and fight against monsters and such. They are good and each has a healer. On to book 2.
This is the first book in the Saa Thalarr spinoff series. This book actually appears to take place prior to many of the events in the other three Connie Suttle series but occurs in the same universe(s). Without much spoilery as I can possibly give... This follows Adam Chessman, the Chief Enforcer of the Vampire Council. Adam is special because his vampire gift of "misting" is a rare skill that only a few vampires posses. He is sent to investigate murders in Texas that appear to be rogue vampire related. He soon discovers that there is another world far beyond the boundaries of the "vampire world" and his knowledge of the universe is very very small. And it comes with a love interest Anna, a fellow detective working on disappearances of locals. Anna is actually Kiarra, member of the Saa Thalarr and her world is unfolded to Adam as they fight a much greater evil than rouge vampires.
This is one of my serial book addictions. I think you either love it or hate it... I started with BLOOD WAGER of the Blood Destiny series and 22 books later she is still on my "must read" author list. The stories are often confusing because of all the characters and the complicated and entangled relationships they have. This book was a little refreshing because all the other characters are not involved or referenced, but the characters in this book have already been introduced in the previous series but further into the future. Theme of good vs evil that starts off as a simple Vampire / Shifter series that quickly goes into the Fantasy realm. The heroines and females in general are rare so they have multiple mates which might not be everyone's cuppa. It has these crazy plots and storylines that are always grounded with simple tasks of eating, sleeping and other normal functions. The other series are HIGH DEMON and GOD WARS, but I think someone could start off reading this without all the back stories.
An unbelievable imagination and stellar worldbuilding!!
A caution: If you've not read any of Connie Suttle's other books you might find yourself lost but if you're very open minded and love a good Sci-Fi/Fantasy, you'll love this series from this first book.
What I liked: I'm so glad we are finally getting the story behind the Saa Thalarr. They've interested me since they were first introduced in Ms Suttle's Blood Destiny Series. They are so mysterious and although they feature prominently is Hope and Vengeance, there are still many unanswered questions.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Adam too. This is such a completely different side from what we see of him in the other series. So much back story of all the characters is shared in Hope and Vengeance, you're gonna love it.
In hindsight, I now know why a few characters rubbed me the wrong way in the Blood Destiny, High Demon and God Wars series. No, I can't mention names because it would really spoil things and might color your own opinions of those characters.
What I didn't like: Ms Suttle's writing style is not for everyone, but if you've been reading her stories from the very beginning, you'll just take it in stride. I've grown very used to it and completely enjoy it.
I'm still and will probably always be in awe of the worlds Ms Suttle has created. Her content and other editing is some of the best I've seen. Kudos to both Ms Suttle and Joe for such high quality self published books!! (I've made it a game to find any content editing problems and have come up empty handed so far)
This e-book is $4.99 at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble
I have enjoyed the other series by Connie Suttle. I was entirely convinced I'd enjoy this one too, but I wasn't into it as much as the other series. Same characters, and it was interesting to read, but I wasn't so anxious to get the next one right away. I'll most likely continue the series, but this one didn't keep me up at night reading it.
Excellent! Finally getting some background on some of the other people from previous books/series. I really like Adam. Kiarra is special. I really like Lion, Bearcat and Joey. I'm glad that Dragon will be a part of this series. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.
Fast moving, with more interesting characters with awesome powers. The plot twists and turns unexpectedly, the time travel scenarios can take a second reading on occasions.
Initially I enjoyed the story, but as it continued, there was more and more background information that came up in such a way that both the protagonist and I were bewildered. The difference was that I was not emotionally involved so I found it easier to quit.
This book is set in the same world has another series I have read. I think this is after that one. I do like the reintroduction of the characters in both books.
