Knowing what we know of Finn, it's no surprise that his initial reaction to his father's adoption of Gin was less than enthusiastic. It's equally unsurprising that he came around. B/c FINN.

In this short, told from his POV, we get a firsthand account of those early days, including Gin's seamless transition into assassin-in-training.

ALSO:

I got to my feet, grabbed my leather jacket off the stool next to me, and put it on. It was the second jacket that I’d bought in as many weeks. Gin had given my first one away to some homeless kid, just plucked it off the coat rack in the restaurant like it was hers instead of mine.

REMEMBER THAT.

Her voice was soft, just like everything else about her. Soft brown hair, soft gray eyes, soft, small body. Even her clothes were soft and big and baggy and utterly forgettable. She never raised her voice, she never interrupted a conversation, she never did anything the least bit dangerous or naughty or risky. It was as if she was determined to draw as little attention to herself as possible and blend into the background no matter what.
She annoyed the hell out of me.

What a wonderful short story told from Finn’s POV on how things were between him and Gin after his father took her in. Obviously being a teenager, and used to it being just him and his father, Finn did not like Gin at all. He also hated the fact that his father was going to train Gin to be an assassin just like him when he has always refused to do so with Finn.

It was very enlightening to witness how things were between these two before they became family and best friends. And seeing how kick-ass Gin was at thirteen …. Wow! I love her even more now.

A definite must-read for all fans of this series.

Fin's POV! And a little glimpse of Gin's life just after Fletcher kind of adopted her. Fin being a typical teenager and jealous as hell of the new addition to the family was expected. I would have thought badly of JE's writing style if she had portrayed a happy and content with the situation Finnegan Lane. But he came around pretty fast and I just had the pleasure of reading about the start of one great friendship and the first shared kill of Gin and Finn.

#0.1 in the Elemental Assassin series

Just a very brief short story about Gin's first introduction into Fletcher Lane's life, as seen through Finn's jealous and resentful eyes. He's mad at his father picking Gin to train as an assassin when he feels he should have been the one. But his mind is changed after Gin helps him out. Even though I've read several of the books in this series now, it was fun to go back and fill in a bit of the pre-story and get to know the characters just a little more.

A short but entertaining read that introduces the early relationship between Gin and Finnegan; we get to witness a less than confident Gin take on the young and arrogant Finn trying to win his acceptance as he keeps her at arms length; events unfold cementing their relationship for the future... 4 Stars:)

I wish this was longer. I loved Finn in the first book so it was lovely to read these few pages in his POV! He is such a charmer!

Little story from Finns point of view about when he and Gin were kids.
Good background, worthy of a few minutes

I always enjoy short stories from a different perspective. And this fit that bill perfectly. I have read this while I’m only halfway through Spider’s Bite, but it already helps to understand the relationship between Gin and Finn so much better.

Although it is written with Finn’s jealousy reeking off the pages, it is also very easy to see how their sibling relationship so quickly developed. Gin has the hero-worship need for acceptance from her big brother, and Finn has the jealousy that so many older siblings initially get around their younger counterparts.

This was a really fun and insightful look into the world of Gin and why there is such a bond between herself and Finn, and it just makes me want to finish Spider’s Bite all the more quickly.

Poison is the introduction of Gin Blanco through the eyes of Fin. The addition of Gin to Fletcher's family isn't viewed favorably by Finn, who happens to be Fletcher's son. The green-eyed monster has definitely invaded Finn's heart. When an unexpected turn-of-events threatens Finn's life, however, young Gin is there to save the day.

A super short story but a nice little bit of backstory. An enjoyable addition to the Elemental Assassin series.

Told through the perspective of Finn, it is a story of Gin's early days being trained as an assassin and Finn's poisonous jealousy of her. When push comes to shove, Gin steps up and saves the day and Finn from some bad choices (and vampires). Not only that, Gin creates her famous triple chocolate milkshake for the first time.

Series: Elemental Assassin #0.1
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

This was a very short story with Gin and Finn as children. Finn is struggling to cope with Gin being in their lives and her being trained as an assassin instead of him. I liked that we see the change in his view and that he finally starts seeing her as a sister.

An interesting premise to character building although not a lot has been revealed. Still a decent plot for a caricature. I thoroughly enjoyed a third person perspective on the main character that it seems to assume.

A cute little story of Finn and Gin growing up together. Gin shows she has a heart and is loyal to the people she loves and will do anything for them even kill. Finn shows how selfish and entitled he is but also how vulnerable and how much he loves and wishes for his fathers love and approval.
