James Thomas Fallon, Jr. is an American comedian, actor, and musician known for his work on Saturday Night Live. He is also scheduled to become the host of Late Night in 2009.
A cute story about being excited for Halloween. A good book for really young kids to older elementary age. Very interesting illustrations and fun rhymes.
Heard about this one after watching Fallon one night. It is cute and just plain fun. I think kids will enjoy it. I liked the artwork and it made me laugh. :) Some rhymes seemed to not fall exactly into place, so I gave it a little off for that. I liked the nod to Jimmy’s dog Gary, who is featured in the book. He sometimes talks about him on the show. I don’t know why Gary is blue though? Overall an enjoyable Halloween book for kids that’s sure to be a perennial pick.
i got this from Amazon, also got the 5 more sleeps til Christmas. at the beginning it is pretty repetitive ... after so many pages when you add the other characters (get out of the bedroom it is way more interesting, entertaining, etc.) it gets more exciting. i would think a kiddie pooh would agree ... wishing for more changes in the illustrations and what is going on. cute read.
Christmas: came out Sept 10, 2024 children's books on sleep. children's humor. children's Christmas books. ------- Halloween: came out Sept 3, 2024 children's Halloween books. children's books on sleep. children's humor.
Mildly spooky book: shows boy feeling scared in bedroom, with dark creepy branches and bats outside open window, mildly scary haunted house repeating on pages, frankenstein mask, mention of mummy corpse, zombie, skeleton, witch, BIGGEST SCARE: shows "monster" which is a shadow of sister trying to scare brother, shows shadow behind boy one time, window blowing curtains, costumes of friends include purple dinosaur, devil (just horns and cape) and vampire (teeth mostly hidden by bush), mummy, alien, ghost, stitched mouth "monster".
Does show cute tradition of getting "booed" which Tea loved and she did want to read the book over and over. She liked the "boo" pages and didn't seem scared.
I love the art in Fallon's books, particularly the look of the kid which is super adorable with his big square glasses and excitement at the anticipation of holidays (now Halloween) as the countdown begins.
Using the countdown and rhymes, he's undecided about what he wants to be but finally settles on his costume and enjoys the mounds of candy trick-or-treating.
This book is a fun and cute countdown to Halloween. The illustrations are so fun and colorful which is enticing for young readers. The text is easy to understand, but the rhymes do feel a little bit forced at some spots. Overall, it’s a fun book that my daughter is excited to have in her Halloween collection.
A fun enough read, but shame on Macmillan/ Feiwel & Friends for leaving illustrator Rich Deas' name off of the cover and spine (and apparently, the Goodreads description) as the illustrator. Jimmy's name is big enough on the cover. I don't know Rich, but this text would fall a bit flat without his illustrations.
Fallon shares a countdown until Halloween. Each night new spooky ideas are introduced as the child thinks about a costume and the fun to come. I love the "Boo" each night as it sneaks closer and closer until the surprise is revealed. The big night arrives and it is just as spectacular as the child hoped. Colorful illustrations capture the creepiness that surrounds this holiday.
A fun book to read aloud. It has bright, colorful artwork that draws you in, and I definitely felt the excitement that comes with waiting for Halloween night. I just wanted more to the story - at times, it felt like thoughts were unfinished.
This was cute and, like others have said, the illustrations are great. The rhymes are forced in places so they don't necessarily trip off the tongue. But kids should enjoy the random shouting of BOO! between each of the numbers.
2.75 stars. This book follows a young boy as he prepares and waits for Halloween. Overall, this is a decent book to get children in the spirit of the spooky season. I enjoyed the drawings more than the storyline, but I digress.
This is a great group read aloud! Fun rhyming text and a story that kids can relate to as the protagonist counts down the days till Halloween, trying to pick a costume and looking forward to trick-of-treating.
Admittedly, my reading of this book is overshadowed by my disdain for Jimmy Fallon. It is not well-written, the story is clunky, there's no flow despite the 5 more sleeps structure. We didn't care for the "boo" interludes between each "sleep." The illustrations are decent.
Another fun and easy to read book for emerging readers! The illustrations are beautiful and engaging, the text easy to read, and it’s just the right length for a story time any time of day.
Usually celebrities just like to slap their name on a book, but this one was actually cute and the pictures were also very colorful and cute as well. Well done 👏 🎃 👻
Some of the lines rhyme and then some stand out and make it harder to read aloud to your child because they obviously don't follow the pattern that was previously set. Otherwise, it is kind of cute at least.
Some of the fears children may think of when Halloween is drawing close. This could be a nice book for the first time trick-or-treater or a child that needs re-assurance.
