Darkness lies in Sherwood Forest, and it’s calling to me… It’s not a good time to be a woman in Nottingham. I have to contend with oppressive taxes, a sick mother, a cruel father, and pushy suitors nipping at my heels. Even as an heiress, I’m imprisoned by my lot in life.I’d rather be a man—gambling with guttersnipe boys, free from the shackles of my aristocratic duties. Dreaming of living in Sherwood Forest, on the edge of our estate. With my hood pulled low, I pretend to be just a man.I should have been more careful what I wished for. When my family is attacked by a violent gang of bandits, my dream of a free life in the woods becomes my nightmare. I’m thrust from an imaginative prison to a real one. There’s nothing merry about these so-called “Merry Men.” They’re savage. Feral. They see me as nothing more than a prize—leverage to use against men who are even worse than they are.How long can I go before they discover the secret under my hood? What will happen when they find out I’m not the young lordling they think I am?I must escape their clutches. And yet . . . can I really give up this exciting glimpse of twisted freedom to return to a mundane life of fealty and duty in my ivory tower? Author’s Daughter of Sherwood is a dark fantasy romance retelling of the legends of Robin Hood. Here, Robin is a woman. The Merry Men are merciless, morally gray, vicious, and they’re obsessed with their fiery heiress. Graphic scenes of violence and sex abound, and I urge you to read the trigger warnings!

KC Kingmaker lives in San Diego and has been writing and reading fantasy and romance for years.

"Briarwitch Academy" was KC’s first foray into paranormal romance, trying to bridge the genres to make something steamy, funny, mysterious, action-packed, and most of all, fun!

"Dragon Shifter Dominion" came after, trying to meld that same steaminess with traditional fantasy, to create a romantic fantasy explosion!

"Shadowblade Academy," KC’s third series, is technically a spin-off of Briarwitch Academy, though it can be read as a standalone series. It has just as much intrigue and mystery and steam as the others, but things get a bit darker.

"Camelot Untold," KC’s fourth series, is a deep, dark dive into the rich lore of Arthurian legends. It’s reverse harem fantasy romance.

"Robin Hood and Her Merciless Men" is KC’s fifth series, and another spicy, dark retelling of an iconic legend.

“Sword-fighting isn’t your calling, little mouse. Perhaps you’ll best me in something else some day?”

Would you believe that, out of all the quotes I could've pulled, I picked one of the villain's? Because, and I'm sorry (not sorry), he's highkey hot, KC WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??? I was just minding my own business, then in comes Guy of Gisborne to steal the show...how rude.

YES I WILL BE IGNORING HIS EVIL DEEDS HE DID NOTHING WRONG NOT ONE THING!! Now if KC has me simping over the Sheriff of Nottingham too, well then we'll have a problem. So far so good though *knocks on sher-wood*. Ba dum tss. That was gold and you know it.

So, this (if it wasn't already apparent) is a gender-bent Robin Hood retelling, in which Robin gets kidnapped by the Merry Men after a carriage robbery and slowly burrows her way into their hearts (and pants).

I loved watching her grow from a somewhat naive noble girl into the strong woman she was meant to be. She's not at the legend level yet, but she'll get there.

She fell for the men pretty fast and I can't fault her for it, they are really cool. My favourite is probably Will Scarlet, but Alan a Dale is close behind. You know how he has a lute? Yeah, I was wondering if we'd get another lute scene somewhere in there. Bit of KC lore for you, you're welcome, and if you're curious about what I'm referring to, then you should go read the Camelot Untold trilogy, it's unforgettable.

But yeah, while all the men were fierce when it came to protecting Robin, Will was kind of a chaotic menace all around, I have no other option but to stan. He kind of reminds me of an angry hamster, but in a good way, I can't explain.

Alan we don't know much about, I think he got the least page time out of all the men which will be rectified in the future, I know. He's the softest and sweetest and swings all the ways AS HE SHOULD!!

Little John comes next in my line of faves, though the salt and pepper hair would normally place him higher, so this is subject to change. I feel like we know him, but we also need to get to know him, if that makes sense. With that cliffhanger I think we will.

Friar Tuck is last for a big cartoon shaped reason. That's what I've been imagining the whole time, I'm trying so hard not to and I'll hopefully succeed by the end of the series. He's sweet too, and can be very kind, it's just...I see a badger.

Maid Marian also gets a mention, I knew she'd be trouble from the start, just wasn't sure how much. She's rotten to the core and I wonder who she'll join forces with next.

I never doubted the ending would be a cliffhanger, but I am even more anxious after that last twist. I thought something along the lines might happen BUT I DIDN'T WANNA BE RIGHT. I WANT ANSWERS AND I WANT THEM NOW!!!!

P. S. Sir Gregory could get it too, I don't discriminate.

*Thank you to the amazing author who provided me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review*

It's not the plot, it's the age gap. For me, I can enjoy an age gap, as long as the FMC doesn’t relate the MMCs to her dad. Guess what ended up happening (multiple times).

👇Spoilers… sorry 👇

When she first meets Little John she mentions his ‘salt and pepper’ hair so it's evident he is older, but then she goes on to say he is close to her father's age. Okay, I didn’t need this mental image, but it’s just a statement. This point wasn't going to deter me.

Friar Tuck is a different story. Firstly, he is described as older, bald and portly. Now I googled what ‘portly’ looked like, as I was trying to get a better picture in my head. THIS WAS A MASSIVE MISTAKE. The first image shown is the Tweedles from Alice in Wonderland. I'm sure he is a very nice man, but this mental picture has now been ingrained in my head. This is not his fault, so again we progressed.

Now we know he is older because he comments on her being half his age (she is 20), which again isn't the issue. The issue was when she said she saw him as a ‘father figure’ (not that bad), before proceeding to say she was attracted to him (a little worse), before getting herself off to the thought of him in a carriage (not great). This series of events happened in a short span of time, but we again progressed. But then ….. he caught her doing this in the carriage and I experienced instant second-hand embarrassment. All I thought was ‘OMG her DAD just caught her doing that’. As soon as I thought that I knew the romance had died for me.

These thoughts are probably not rational, but the mind works in mysterious ways.

There are two other love interests who are not remotely linked to anyones dad, Will & Alan. Will is young and angry, but we can deal with this and Alan … seems nice. Although, it’s constantly brought up that he likes young boys. I may be misinterpreting it though and they may mean ‘adult men, who are in their early 20s’, you never know.

Remember she is dressed as a boy.

So when she is captured they say ‘We’ve got a pretty boy to make Alan-a-Dale happy’. This is very creepy, but it could just be twisted banter. Then she meets him and he says ‘It doesn't look like we will be needing whores tonight, after all’. Again it’s a little bit on the cusp seeing as they keep referring to her as a lad and an orphan. From this, I assumed that they thought she was under 18.

Nothing does come from this comment and again, it could just be very twisted banter, but it all felt a bit off.

He later called her a ‘little girl’ and I thought’ no thank you sir’ and made a swift exit.

Now this may be a ‘me’ problem because I'm sometimes iffy about age gaps, but you might have read this and thought it sounded great. Each to their own.

I’m rating this at 3 stars, as I got to 47% and I did enjoy the writing style. Also, I liked how comfortable the FMC was with herself and her level of confidence. However, I’m not keen on some of the characters.

I can forgive a problematic world, but once I don’t like an MMC, it all goes slightly downhill.

~ thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in advance ~

It is pretty difficult for me to review this since I'm obviously so excited about this Robin Hood reverse harem fantasy take.

My issue is the writing. The writing really didn't stick to me, so as a result, the story as well. There are quite a few lines that cringed me out. I also felt like the characters don't have that much depth into and pretty much unlikeable to me, to be honest, not that I hated them all ( I hated the father).

The plot and the premise are interesting, I was really looking forward to it. However, it felt short. I feel like it could have been more, but instead, what happened was a long drawn out of events that really didn't help in fleshing out the character, the chemistry, the romance, as well as the plot, in my opinion.

Overall, it was underwhelming. I really couldn't find something that sticks out to me. It was also pretty slow, and I forgettable at times, which was saddening in my part since I'm really looking forward to this. I feel like it could have been better.

Then again, it could have been just a me problem? But yeah, that's how I felt when reading this. Spice level 🌶🌶🌶

This is a dark retelling of Robin Hood & it was fantastic!

This book hooks you in from the start. It’s dark. Robin is such a strong and amazing fmc. I really enjoyed this book. There’s spice, action, twists and turns and swoon worthy men.

Can’t wait for the next! ♡

This was an amazing retelling with a gender swap! Robin, being the main female and a spirited one , also fits perfectly with this story. I loved the twists and turns, morally grey men, dark elements, and, of course, why chose. After reading this and how it ended , I am anxiously waiting for the next book!

First I received this book as an ARC from the author, but my thoughts are all my own and my honest opinion after reading the book.

“Just remember, Robin. Your family isn’t just something you’re born into. It can also be something you forge.” My favorite quote from the book.

This book is a dark retelling of gender-bent Robin Hood, and let me tell you! You have not read a retelling like this one. This book is a RH, so be aware of that before reading this book. This book has had me glued. I would recommend reading the TW as there are some triggering scenes.

Some for example: Murder, death, SA, Mentions of rape, domestic abuse, childhood abuse, and more.

I enjoyed this book, it has a very unique take on an old tale; because who has not heard about Robin Hood? It does end on a cliffhanger but it has the perfect amount of spice and plot to keep the story going. I am so looking forward to reading the second book because of that ending. Oh dear lord! K.C you are killing me here!

There were only a few things I would have altered about the book; such as the FMC was a virgin before she met with the Merry Men. She had her first "Encounter", I'll say, and to me that one scene was a little unrealistic; but I know, it's fantasy right? It seemed like there was no pain, nothing, which any woman can say the first time never is that easy.... or clean.

outside of that; I loved this book and I cannot wait for the second one to be released.

The premise of this book sounds interesting with the idea of a female Robin Hood figure!
I don’t read many robin hood retelling but I found this one to be quite enjoyable.

It took me a while to get hooked into the story but the moment Robin met the Merry Men gang, that’s where things started to get more interesting.
I enjoy reading the time where Robin got a taste of adventure and freedom she longed for, exploring the unknown and found a family that will support and love her for who she is.

The multiple POVs is a really great touch to the story so we can know each character’s thoughts and background story through each of them.
I really enjoy my time getting to know the reason behind why each of the Merry Men gang was cast as an outlaw.

As for the romance, the spicy parts didn’t take over the whole plot, there’s some and it’s well written. However, I find the age gap trope isn’t for me I guess, when the FMC mention one of the love interests to be twice Robin’s age I felt slightly awkward while reading it.
But if you mind that, you’ll have no problem enjoying this story!

Overall, it’s a pretty good read. I really like the plot and the huge cliff-hanger at the end makes me want to continue to book 2 to know what happen to this one particular character!
I’ll definitely keep an eye out for the next one to come out.

I received an advanced review copy for free from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!

Have you ever finished a book and wished you could rate it more than 5 stars? Because that’s what I felt when this book ended. That, and a whole lot of “WHAAAAT?!”

I’m going to need the next book ASAP!

KC Kingmaker is by far my favorite dark, smutty, fantasy author. I am so grateful to have the chance to read her books, and I recommend them whenever I can.

Whenever I dig into a new book by her I know I’m in for the ride of my life. Not only does this book have some sexy, brooding men and some HOT spice 🥵 it also has a PHENOMENAL plot with twists that literally had me SHOOOOK.

I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on the follow up because I just know this is going to be another fav and top read of the year (and YES it’s only January, but it’s that good… I know it won’t be topped! Unless it’s a book by KC 😉).

ARC Review

"Christ can't save you from me, little thorn. No one can, living or otherwise."

This Robin hood retelling was everything you would want in a romance.
Why choose romance with Robin Hood as a female? Yes, please.
Her merry men are so passionate and committed to her. Little John, Will Scarlett Friar Tuck and Alan-a-Dale are a great combo in her life.
"Little John gave me unconditional protection. Will Scarlett gave me crazed obsession. Friar Tuck gave me hopeful guidance, and Alan-a-Dale gave me witty camaraderie. They all imbued me with confidence."

Robin was a wealthy girl who's brother passed fighting for King Richard in the crusades and in the time after her mother became ill, her father turned on her and became abusive towards her so she would go into the woods to hunt dressed as a boy to gain a semblance of respect.
Her family decides to go on a trip to take her mother to a healer and gets raided while they are on the road by none other than the Merry Men.

As anyone would after spending some time with the men, she began to get to know them and started to like them. Which obviously leads to more with the relationship between all five of them.
The dynamics are so great between them all, and they have all come to realise they need each other.

This is such a great first book of the series. The spice that was in this book was top tier, I hope there is more in the next book, but I absolutely love what was in this one. I can't wait for the next books.

This is a dark fantasy romance retelling of the legend of Robin Hood, with a female protagonist.

I actually really liked this take on the story. Robin was such a feisty character, and a protagonist with a strong personality is important.

I don't think this retelling would work for everyone, as it contains profanity, violence and explicit sexual scenes. Having said that, I felt the writing retained an element of beauty, as the author brought the characters and the study to life so vividly.

Thank you to Booksprout and the author for a free copy to review.

When I say well balanced, I am referring to the amount of action, romance, dialogue, etc within the book. It really had the right amount of everything. The only issue I had was that different chapters were through various character point of views, which is fine, but became very unbalanced. Sometimes I wondered if a new chapter was even needed if we were staying focused on the main character from chapter to chapter. Overall, an amazing twist that involved characters from robin hood while making it's own, unique story.

When I first saw the author post about her upcoming book being a Robin Hood Retelling, where Robin Hood is a girl instead? I was like, sign me up! I enjoyed this one so much. I was in need of a fantasy but still wanted some dark and RH thrown in and this was just what I needed. The book will take you on a journey with plenty of spice thrown in. Lots of spice.

"Follow your heart, and no matter if you stray from your path, know that there is always a route back to the ones who will keep you true to yourself. Hold on to your convictions and you may become great."

This book is solidifying the fact that I believe that retellings may be my new favorite thing! I absolutely loved this book. I was SHOCKED when I got to the end and the cliffhanger, ugh! I'll be diligently waiting for book 2.

If you enjoy reading about a woman who is welcomed into a group of men, coming to terms with her strengths, and rising above her economic station in a way you wouldn't believe, this is the book for you. This book also includes the tropes of why choose, reverse harem, and found (or "forged) family. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The character development and backstories of all characters was amazing. The plot moves fluidly through the book and never misses a beat. It's just incredible and I will definitely be reading more by K.C. Kingmaker in the very near future!

I was to be part of the ARC group for this book! I was very honored as KC Kingmakers Camelot Untold trology is a guilty pleasure of mine!
It has been years since I read into the world of Robin Hood, and this fun read felt like going home.
If you were a fan of the BBC series growing up, this series is for you. I pictured that cast along with borrowing Mark Addys verson of friar tuck from the Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe. It made for quite a treat!! (Alan a Dale is my favorite!! LOVE!!!!)
The saucy banter between these boys and the heroine Robin is fun to read.
Don't let the fact that this book belongs. In the spice category, fool you. Kingmaker knows her tales of Robin Hood well, and I I am often delighted of how well she portrays the history of the places and people she chose us to write about.
Overall, another perfect rating! Can't wait for the rest of the series! Highly recommend!!

ARC: Daughter of Sherwood {Robin Hood and Her Merciless Men Book 1}
Author: KC Kingmaker
From: BookSirens

5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
4/5 spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

First off-REVERSE HAREM-YES THANK YOU! It is a retelling-re-imagined-role reversal story where Hood is a female breaking the norms put in place by those around and close to her (breaking societal norms/gender-bender).

Please heed the TW's.

There is intrigue, angst, chemistry, not really a slow burn (which I am okay with, because there is a plot). But understand this does leave off on a cliffhanger and I just have to know multiple things. Which I will not mention here to avoid spoilers. It did get emotional at some points and I kept guessing what would happen next but some parts-not prepared for. The scenes-prepare for the detail-Again-I am here for it.

*Reverse Harem
*Touch her and die
*SPICY
*Multiple POV's
*"Good Girl"
*So many quotes (!!!)
*Hot men
*BA FMC
*So many twists and turns (just whe you think...)

Spoiler free quote: "You'd be surprised to hear, lass, that there are good men aplenty in this world." "Then give them to me. All of them." His head tilted. "All of them?" "Yes..."

I received this ARC and leave this honest review voluntarily.

I was able to read this as an ARC and loved it. It’s a rather chunky sister so it took a bit longer to read but I did really enjoy it. Great story line and the characters were well developed. There were some spicy scenes but they were well placed throughout the story. There is blood, guts, and murder as well and I wouldn’t have had it any other way to be honest.

Sure would!

I was really excited when I saw the opportunity to read this book, I’m a sucker for a retelling and was curious to see how this one would pan out. It did take me a while to get into the flow of the story, it’s kind of abrupt. While most would expect Robin, in any capacity, to be a strength driven character; she was more docile in this story. She had her moments but she was pretty stunted in the ways of the world, sure she had her rebellious streak, but she still toed the line.

While she wanted a different life, a more independent life, she still followed the expectations of her father pretty closely. Once she finally got into the Merry Men situation she blossomed at an awkward pace. The characters were all slightly awkward in their interactions on top off that. Friar Tuck was a character that for me just wasn’t appealing, his descriptors and actions made him come off skeezy and that was hard to get past. Everything seemed to go 0-100 with little development and that works sometimes, but personally I didn’t connect with the characters much before it happened.

I DID enjoy the story once I got in line with where it was going. It was fun to picture the story as it progressed and it was still a unique take. I plan to read the next installment and more from the author. Sometimes I just don’t take to a story the first time and I kind of feel like coming back to this one later will be likely.

Robin’s mother is dying and her Uncle Gregory suggests to her father to take her mother to see a healer. As they’re traveling to this healer, they get waylaid by bandits which causes all to perish except for Robin, her Uncle Gregory and her father, but her father takes off and leaves them both behind. Robin and her uncle are taken by these bandits and wonder how they will get away. Robin sees and experiences things for the first time with this band of Merry Men and begins to wonder whether she should go back since her life at home has never been the same since her brother Robert died and her mother has been ill and her father violent. Maybe she should stay with these Merry Men? And the Merry Men cannot figure her out since she’s a wealthy gal, but seems to know the forest well and can use a bow and arrow like no other and they begin to wonder whether they’ll even give her up or let her go.

I love a good why choose romance! This is a very unique take on Robin Hood and his Merry Men with Robin being a girl and her sexy Merry Men that she meets when they abduct her and then don’t want to let her go 😂 I loved it!

Robin grows a lot in this book. I get the impression she was different when her brother was still alive and around and when her mother was healthy. But once her brother died at war and her mother’s health deteriorated, and her father became more violent, she became more reserved and yet rebellious, preferring to go adventuring in the woods in trousers rather than wearing gowns and meeting ridiculous suitors. She’s a feisty little thing and I loved her interactions with the boys because they didn’t know what to make of her 😂 and it was quite entertaining!

The boys are all unique and different. Alan-a-Dale is my favorite! Something about an adventurous man who can play the lute, wield a sword and bow and arrow(sort of 😆), and can carve wood is just dreamy to me 😂 Then there’s Little John, Friar Tuck and Will Scarlet, each unique and yet brothers and create a found family with Robin.

This first book was definitely plot heavy. There is of course the steamy romances, but there was actually way more plot than I expected which was be try enjoyable! There were twists, betrayals, mystery, adventure and of course romance, and then a shocking twist at the end that makes you want the next book now!

I really look forward to the next one to see how Robin and her Merry Men fare! I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was pretty excited to read this book because I am a huge Robin Hood fan. I really enjoyed the story line and plot throughout. It kept me engaged and I just couldn't put it down.

You get multiple points of view. Robin, Little John, Friar Tuck, Alan-A-Dale, and Will Scarlet.

I was hoping this would be more of a slow burn. I was slightly disappointed that Robin was lusty right off the bat. I wasn't a huge fan of that. I am also not a huge fan of RHs.

I did enjoy the different personalities and traits that each of the Merry Men brought to the table. Each one cared for Robin in a different capacity, yet craved her all the same.

Robin didn't want to be seen, used as women were back then. Being in the forest gave her a since of freedom that she craved. Especially with what she endured while living in her home.

The battle scenes! Amazing and detailed. Definitely couldn't put the book down for those.

The ending is what had me hooked to read book two! It was an OMG what is happening, where is the rest of the book moment for me.

Definitely check triggers.

This was an exciting a spicy new take on Robin Hood. Robin: the Princess of Wilford and heir to her family’s kingdom literally hates her life. She has duties and responsibilities to act like a proper heir to the kingdom but instead she lives her life as her father’s punching bag and finds peace sneaking out at night to be among the residents in her kingdom. Portraying herself as a young man to remain undetected.

While traveling with her father to seek aid for her ailing mother Robin is kidnapped by a bandit of Merry Men who was tipped off that royalty would be traveling through Sherwood Forest and the reward would be plentiful. What the Merry Men didn’t expect to find was a young man who was left behind by their father at the mercy of the Merry Men.

While in disguise Robin was able to observe the Merry Men and their debauchery. Something that she soon realized she wanted to be a part of. Imagine the shock when the Merry Men realized that their little young man is really a young woman but not just any young woman but the Princess of Wilford. What turned out to be a dangerous situation turned into something unexpected. The Merry Men were not prepared for the little fiery woman named Robin.

Will Scarlet was chaotic and all over the place. Literally a beautiful disaster.

Alan A Dale who was happy to have a young man in his midst found himself compelled by the young captive’s beauty.

Little John the leader of the Merry Men is the one who puts their safety and goals above all else. His man focus is to help those that the kingdom as long forgotten about, He is the strategist of the group. The one who stays focused on the plan and never deviates. Until he meets Robin who changes everything for him.

Friar Tuck: the former priest/clergy who overlooks the orphan of Nottingham. A man of the cloth who still has faith and believe in a higher power, but he enjoys the pleasures of the flesh a little more.

There were several villains in this story but the one that did not surprise me was Maid Marian. I can’t wait for that skank to get what’s coming to her. “Love Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned” that was Maid Marian in a nutshell. The opportunistic wh*re who put herself on a pedestal amongst the Merry Men and was soon knocked down a peg or 12 in favor or Robin who didn’t need to resort to manipulation or sleeping around to gain the Merry Men’s favor.

This was a fun, spicy gender-swap Robin Hood retelling. We see Robin mature and grow during her time with the Merry Men; we also see how the Merry Men grow to be better men for Robin and protect her at all costs much to the dismay of Maid Marian. This story is full of Plot Twist because once you think you have everything figured out something else comes along making you rethink what you thought you knew.

Leaving on a Cliffhanger with Robin taking her new rightful place at the Head of the Merry Men; she has a goal in mind and a plan of action to put it in place but first she must find one of her Merry Men who has gone missing.

I will say this is more of a 3.75 for me. This book has so many elements I love (hidden gender, RH, Morally grey men) and I was really excited to read a retelling of Robin hood with Robin being a woman as I don't think I have read one before. This book does leave on a cliff hanger, so I am excited to see where the series goes and do plan to read it.
I do think this is a solid book and I did enjoy it especially towards the end, but I will say for me at the start Robin was just a little flat, she just wasn't as compelling to me when you compare them to the merry/merciless men. It just seemed like she was just sitting around letting things happen rather than participating or even fighting back. Which was surprising as with the way she was portrayed especially against her father I expected more fire from her at times. But towards the middle and end is when she became more active in the storyline making things very interesting. So, for the beginning it was the merciless men that kept me going as I was really interested in their backstories and how they got there. There were even a few twists and surprises in this book especially towards the end that really made things exciting.
With the twists, turns, cliffhanger and Robin taking charge at the end of the book I expect the next book to be a 4 or higher for me.
I will say there is spice in this book, and it is hot!!! I really enjoyed those scenes and wish there had been a little more or even one big group moment but that didn't happen in this book but hopefully in the next book(s).

this book is about Robin who is the heiress of her family as her brother has passed away in the conflict of king Richard. She has always felt stifled by the expectations of her position but more so her new position as heiress. Her mother is also sick and doesn't seem to be getting better and her father who has always had it out for her has only gotten worse with more beatings and restrictions. Her uncle comes for a visit to see his sick sister to convince her father to take her to a healer. Resistant at first Robin's father eventually caves but forces Robin to stay behind. But Robin won't be separated from her sick mother, so she sneaks into a carriage to hide. However, things take a turn for the worse when their group is attacked by these group of men coming from Sherwood Forest. Things end up with her and her uncle being taken and them being abandoned by her father. So, Robin and her uncle have to figure out how to escape especially before these men figure out that the young lad, they captured is actually a lady because who knows what these merry men would do once, they figure out he is actually she.

“I’d always felt I’d been born in the wrong time. I was miniscule among the ancient oaks and gnarled branches of this place. Too rebellious to be locked into a life I never agreed to live.”

WOW!! This Robin Hood retelling was absolutely fantastic and this is only book 1!! Right from the very start, with the creative and imaginative imagery and world building, I was instantly transported right into Robin’s world. The story continued to captivate me and keep me glued to the pages and sitting on the edge of my seat. I hated that I needed to stop and put it down (Ugh Adulting). But let me tell you, this story is action packed, suspenseful, adrenaline inducing, thrilling and so freaking spicy that it will melt the panties right off you!

I instantly fell in love with spunky, bratty and witty little Robin. She is definitely young, innocent and naïve about everything, but she makes up for it in her ability to adapt to her surroundings and become a fierce warrior and survivor.

The Merry Men will delight you, intrigue you and keep you squirming on your seat. These men are all unique in their own ways and are each packing something fierce in their pants too!!! Trust me – Little John is definitely not little in any way and he is definitely hiding a python in his pants!!!

When the Merry Men rob the carriage that Robin is hiding in, and then kidnap her, they have no idea how this feisty little bird is going to turn their world upside down. She will have these Merry Men eating out of the palm of her hands and will slowly work her way into their pants and hearts! They each become very protective of her and will do anything to keep her by their sides.

I loved the back-and-forth banter between Robin and the Merry Men. It was filled with hilarious quips, sarcasm, barbs and wit, but underneath all of that was a fire building between Robin and these men that they would not be able to control. Robin is utterly insatiable, and her fire cannot be tamed.

The smut contained within the pages of this amazing story was insanely erotic and deliciously depraved. Make sure to have a fully charged B.O.B. close by, cause you’re going to need it.

I loved this story. It was well written with such amazing characters who you become fully invested in, some you hate but others you can’t help but love, and the storyline was filled to the brim with action, suspense, violence, betrayal, drama, emotional turmoil, and twists and turns that you never see coming. Be prepared for the crazy cliffhanger of an ending because this one will leave you shouting WTF!!!

I can’t wait for more!

I am a fantasy girlie through and through so when I see a DARK FANTASY ROMANCE retelling of Robin Hood where Robin is actually the FMC!? AND ITS A WHY CHOOSE BOOK!? I'm immediately forgetting my TBR and downloading this book ASAP on kindle.

However...... was the fantasy in the room with us????

Nope.

I feel like right now there's a lot of hype around fantasy romance books but there's still minimum requirements (in my opinion) for books to be classified and advertised as fantasy books!! This book takes place in (i assume) 11th-ish century England based off Robin saying she is in England and then her references to her brother's recent passing in Jerusalem during the Crusades and many mentions of a holy war going on.

So then I go "okay so not high fantasy or portal fantasy so maybe it's low fantasy??" Yeah no. There were no magical elements or a magic system, no non-human beings, no mythical or magical creatures, just nothing supernatural or paranormal at all. I will say Robin does mention a fear of sirens or "she-wolves" but she only mentioned the sirens once and the she-wolves (no other description just the name) twice they were not described or actually seen just fears but it felt more like a boogyman type of reference like this was told to scare people from the woods (which then has me confused because then why sirens when we arent next to the ocean? but whatever lol).
Maybe in the later books a fantasy element will come out but if you are expecting a fantasy book this is not it and in my opinion should not be advertised as one. I would classify this book as a historical fiction/romance.

I feel like this book had a lot of potential, but it was a bit underwhelming for me, unfortunately. I wish I got to see more of Robin and the MMCs relationships but that aspect felt a bit rushed. I'm sure in the later books we see their relationships more.

I couldn't get a good read on the FMC, it kind of seemed like her personality was all over the place and not in the "she's multidimensional and complex" but more like it felt like Robin was inconsistent with her personality and character development.

Overall I give this book a two, but I will not be continuing the series /:

An enjoyable read…

This is a RH romance where the FMC, Robin doesn't have to choose between her four Merry Men, Little John, Will Scarlett, Alan-a-Dale and Friar Tuck. The book does end on a cliffhanger before they get their HEA and this is the first book in a planned series.
I found Daughters of Sherwood, by KC Kingmaker to be a good read overall. It took about 50 or so pages before I was truly engaged, so it does take some patience from the reader. The FMC doesn't have a good home life as her father is abusive and her mother is dying. While her dying mother is being transported to a healer in a distant place Robin stows away in a trunk being loaded on the carriages and the caravan is attacked by the Merry Men, the MMCs in Sherwood Forest. Robin, disguised as a man was captured by the Merry Men while the carriage with her father and dying mother escaped. The MMCs taunt her for being a shy, inexperienced lad prompting her to an outburst that reveals her true gender. From there the interest of the MMCs is further piqued and their varying relationships with the FMC begin to be explored.
I don't want to say much more so I do not give away any spoilers. I didn't find any of characters to be that deep as far as main characters go, but the FMC was kind, intelligent, naïve and just a little bit weird and was tolerable whereas many young FMCs are not. Her life experiences made her someone that the MMCs wanted to protect which created a couple interesting plot twists. The MMCs were each interesting in their own way, but my favorite was Will Scarlet because I thought the others were fairly dull. It was a little farther on the insta-love side than I like, but I'm not holding that against the book. The author had a good plot laid out overall and captured many of the recognizable facets of the Robinhood folktale such as the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and Maid Marian. My final thoughts on the book are that while it was a good read, there's nothing extraordinary about it that makes you want to rave and share with everyone.

Character development - 2
Plot - 4
Spice - 2

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We’ve all heard the tales of Robin Hood and his adventures with the Merry Men, but never one quite like this.

“Our homes are not where we are, Robin. Our homes are who we’re with.”

Robin, for one, is a girl. Barely 20 and the unwanted heiress of her estate. She despises her expected duties and behavior and often escapes into Sherwood Forest looking for adventure-in pants and a hooded cloak with her shortbow.
When her mother falls ill and her uncle comes to cart her off to a healer, Robin’s father forbids her to join the caravan. Being the rebel she is, she manages to stowaway on the journey. When their carriages are attacked, Robin is taken hostage by the crew under the assumption she is a young lordling that can be bargained with. The four leaders never expected him to be a heiress, or that they would soon decide against bargaining with her father-or fall in love with her.
Abused by her father and mesmerized by this crew that calls themselves the Merry Men, Robin soon realizes she has no desire to leave.
With the Sheriff’s men hot on their tails, Robin and her Merry Men set off on an unexpected adventure where they experience betrayal, loss, and the power of chosen family.
This is book one of a series and ends on a cliffhanger.
I received this as an ARC from BookSirens and my review is voluntary.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the storyline, I absolutely loved it. But ⭐️⭐️ for the romance. While the story and plot were enjoyable, I didn’t like how the FMC jumped headfirst into four men’s beds and was so open to FMM and DVP so soon after meeting them. I prefer a single love interest at a time over multiple though and do not intentionally read RH for that reason, so I’m unsure if this is normal. This is why I’m rating based on the storyline rather than including the romance. That being said, I loved the storyline enough that I will read book two as well. I love Robin Hood stories and thoroughly enjoyed this take.

Thank you so incredibly much to the author for sharing an ARC copy of this book with me!!!

“I’d always felt I’d been born in the wrong time. I was miniscule among the ancient oaks and gnarled branches of this place. Too rebellious to be locked into a life I never agreed to live.”

“No one is allowed to harm you, little star.”

“Then turn me into an addict, you savage.”

After the Camelot untold series I knew I was a fan of this author. And when I started this twisted why choose, spicy, action packed version of the Robin Hood story with a female Robin and a group of unhinged Merry Men … I knew I was in from the very first moment!! I had a blast reading this thing and I had it done in one sitting!!! ONE SITTING!!! And it’s not even a small book I have to admit !!! But I simply couldn’t stop!!! Between Little John, Will Scarlett, Alan-a-Dale and Friar Tuck … I guess I can say that Robin had a blast!!! And I with her!!! I have to admit that this is the first time I found myself despising Maid Marian!!! And if that was the author’s aim … she nailed it!!!! I felt like I was constantly part of the story (iykyk) and I couldn’t leave the book be. I desperately needed to know which Merry Men was next and what was happening to them!! And what a massive cliffhanger!!! Loved it!!! I was not expecting that at all!! I feel like this author has the unmatched ability to simply turn the last 60 pages of her books into cliffhangers after cliffhangers!!! I can’t wait for the sequel to be out!!!

“Yes, I promise to fuck you into a mindless mess, little star.”

“Just remember, Robin. Your family isn’t just something you’re born into. It can also be something you forge.”

“Just how you were meant to look, little thorn,” he growled in my ear. “Awash with my cum painting you like the most beautiful mural. You are art, Robin.”

“Wear that hood low, Robin. Wear it like it’s part of your damned skin.”

Such a fun ride! Very immersive with the language and the description of the setting, beautiful writing in that regard. The author clearly is very skilled.

Robin makes for an interesting lead, and one you truly want to root for. You’re exposed to her shitty lot in life, even as the daughter of a highborn family, right from the start. She never seems truly ungrateful for what she has, but frustrated about the barriers she deals with as a highborn woman. She’s also humbled in quite a few scenes, which I appreciate. I don’t like a perfect character, so I enjoy seeing her learn things.

All of the men are extremely distinct, something I value a lot to reverse harems. My favorite of the group is actually Friar Tuck, though I don’t know if many would feel that way. I just appreciated the contradiction. He played as a “holy man” who considers himself a sinner and beyond redemption. There are many moments in the book where this is fun to read about, especially during his backstory.

The other three men all have their own shiny moments, And moments of weakness and vulnerability, which makes them more lovable as well. It’s easy to see why Robin is smitten with them pretty quickly.

This does have its darker moments, but I wouldn’t consider it overly dark or unreadable for that fact. Good spicy scenes though, very intense ones. Robin is often horny lol but I think she has her time with each man in an appropriate amount of time in the book. Not rushed at all for this type of story.

My only real complaint is that it felt a little slow in the middle, but when it picked up at around 70%, I was glued to the pages. I’m very interested in what happens in the next books… as we get a nice cliffhanger. Though there is resolution for a big part of this plot! The cliffhanger is more of an expansion… making everything more satisfying. I like having at least a little bit of resolution.
