I read this volume last night, but I realized I was so on edge and so emotionally invested that I completely crashed after I read it. LOL! It's honestly taken me until now to think about what I wanted to say and what kind of rating I wanted to give because THE INTENSITY!!!

But thankfully sweet Yun was okay! *sobs* I'm not a nail biter, but goodness internally I felt that was exactly what I was doing and SO proud of him for how he gathered his courage and "fought back" in his own way. I continue to be so so so proud of him and definitely loved the moment when he realized Thunder Beast was alive. LOL! It was the laughter I needed after wondering what would happen to Mei, if the palace would burn, and who all was going to survive. (The Emperor of South Kai is VERY sinister and gave me goosebumps.)

Speaking of Mei, my heart totally broke for her of how she completely looked hopeless and lifeless. I truly hope she has a happy ending and that all will be well because with all the fight she had in her in volume 39 it was crushing to see how she is now.

I LOVED the last chapter of this volume! Seeing the classic humor of this series and our dragons together made my heart happy and was relieved the volume ended on a positive-ish note where no one's life was directly at stake, but that was ONLY because Yona stepped in! Goodness, our girl looked so regal!!!

Lastly, my favorite part once again involved Su-won and how he said that he was going to trust Yona! YESSSSSSSS! IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!

Wait, no one last thing! The FEAR I felt in this volume was extremely real. I shared on social media that with the one massive spoiler I've seen from those who have read scans, that thing I saw is living in the back of my mind when I read these volumes. Since Yona had another dream, I am terrified of how this series is going to end. I know Hak was trying to comfort Yona and say he won't let anything happen to the dragons, but my fear did not waver. I truly hope that all WILL end well and all this dread, fear, and worry is something we readers will be able to one day laugh about because it ended where Yona, Hak, Yun, and the dragons were all well and super happy.

Overall, another good volume!

This characters are all so precious to me.
The way they care so much about each other.
The way they want to protect each other but sometimes, things are simply out of their hands.
And this situation with South Kai is driving me nuts! There is so much going on, I need to know everything!

Nothing terrible has happened... yet. It's only a matter of time though. And thanks to Tik Tok, I have a rough idea of what I have to look forward to. And it's great you guys. Nothing but sunshine and happiness.

*SIGH* It's not really all that surprising. This series had already built a reputation for stressing me out. I just thought that JJK was going to be the only series that was going to be emotionally traumatizing.

So intense, so many thoughts and feelings and all the things and just ahhhh!!!!!! Volume 41 can’t be released fast enough for me!!!

The situation within and without South Kai is actually kind of alarming, heh. The emperor is CREEPY to the extreme and horrible and I honestly fear the gang meeting up with him even though I know it will probably happen sooner rather then later, yay… His creepy assassins aren’t going to help matters either even though I think Hak and the dragons could take them on.

Speaking of Yona’s gang, everyone’s back together!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Sure it wasn’t for too long but they’re at least all in the same place right now and that makes me so so happy! I also love, love, LOVE how characters from throughout the series are coming together to fight South Kai—epic team up’s for the win!!!!

And while I’m kind of nervous about Yona’s dream and what it could possibly mean, I also agree with Hak in that they can’t let it rule them (though, Zeno, if you know something TELL YONA!!!!!). I also just adore how Hak is 100% there for Yona just like she was for him in the previous volume and gah they’re so cute and an amazing team, be still my heart!!!! 😍🥰😍🥰

And the ending…!!!! I love that the dorks are on another mission together with Su-Won supporting them from the outside (FINALLY!!!!!), and just the antics they get into in such a short time cracked me up into laughing out loud (which I then had to stifle because everyone else was asleep, heh). I still think the very last chapter of the volume ended rather abruptly, which isn’t normally a complaint I have with this series but it kinda just makes it feel like everything just slammed on the brakes and made me read it a few times to think “okay, there? Really?” 🤨 It was odd, but not enough for me to dislike the volume as a whole.

Everything is definitely rushing to a head, and I only just hope everyone ends up happy and alive by the end except the bad guys. It’s going to be torture waiting for each volume to release. 😬 #sendhelp

“I’m powerless, dragging everyone down with me. At a time like this, if it were them, if it were Yona… if it were Yona, I’m sure she would have rebelled ages ago already! Hasn’t she overcome everything in her way, after all?”

“The bonds forged by Yona, and her friends on their journey have become Kouka’s strength.”

Chagol is actually the worst. Which is interesting, because aside from Gobi, Kusanagi has started pretty clear of the downright awful characters and given us much more complexity. Which, in contrast, makes him a mystery and interesting.

More than anything, I enjoy how this later part of the story has been fleshing Yoon out more and showing the importance, strength, and width of his character. This is brought even more to light with his dynamic with Mei-nyan, which might have just become one of my favorites.

The kindness that has permeated these characters from the very beginning, the kindness that has propelled them to where they are right now, having the time to shine once more, and contrasting the cruelty of Chagol is quite the interesting play in dynamics and themes.

Certainly, I like the Kai Empire Generals and I hope we can get more on them and of them.

While things are looking a little on the bright side there are so many shadows lurking in the corners, so much going on, and so many terribly ominous signs that I am starting to deeply dread what the crux of the matter will be this time around.

“We are by nature a peaceful people who scorn upon war, but let us answer their summon, and repay Yona’s generosity.”

That bald South Kai Emperor terrifies the hell out of me! I hope he dies! He gives me a queasy feeling. He’s like that Pharaoh guy from The Mummy!

But would it be such a far-fetched dream to witness Val and Meinyan’s happy ending however short-lived it might be? Would also be such a far-fetched dream to have generals of the South Kai be Yona’s allies? I feel good vibrations with them. Also, that line when Val was resting on the encampment talking with Hak and the dragons, saying he’s lucky coz he befriends Yoon, because he’s got the whole team too like it’s a package deal. That’s so heartwarming!

Now, that it will be ending in no more than six volumes, I hope there will be a wedding in the end. And it has to be Hak and Yona’s! I mean, it’s not so much as a far-fetched dream now, right? After all, King II and Yuhon did marry a commoner themselves.

P.S. I can’t believe I’m finally down to the last six volumes, when three days ago I just picked up the 9th volume to continue!! Thinking about that, I put this series on hold 3 years ago as I was impatient about Hak and Yona’s relationship progress.

I also believe it was because it’s still on-going at volume 37 that time when I put this onhold. I MEAN, HELLO? VOLUME 37? The source of my misery! I remember now! I knew I got mad coz I heard Hak died and I’m only at volume 9, so I got a lot of pages to catch up to, and I’m not even sure if he’d be resurrected. So, I’m clueless! Curious as I may be, I wasn’t ready when I know what awaits me. So, I put it on-hold until I don’t remember it anymore. I only heard that season two’s coming, so I watched the first season knowing I’m covered and would be free of spoilers coz I already read up to volume 9.

That must also be the reason why when I stared at volume 37’s cover, I only can recall the ominous feeling awaiting me and my favorite character! Now, look at me, a lot of war, angst, and kissy-kissy moments after, and I’m volume 40! It’s about to end!

Ok, I can sleep satisfied now. I’ll read to my heart’s contain tomorrow morning the remaining 2 years of my life I wasted not reading this. It’s just weird that those 6 remaining volumes spent completing for two years, I can read in no more than 7 hours—writing reviews, and updating bookshelves included. Or, it depends if I get emotional and write a novel review myself. I may spend extra hours tops.

We’re so back, y’all. I love this series more than anything else I’ve ever read.

There are SO many things happening currently. I went back and read volume 39 before jumping into this, but I could’ve gone back even further to refresh on all of the complex situations and dynamics happening at this point in the story. It’s SO GOOD. There’s so much communication taking place between all of the different sides, and it feels like everyone is working together so well.

There are so many different characters involved and they are all so compelling and add great layers to the story. I love Meinyan and Val, I’m so happy to see Queen Kouren and the five stars again, and I’m even starting to feel invested in the other generals of Kai, because of the way their questioning their emperor and his cruelness, and their compassion for their fellow soldiers.

I just love this series and everyone in it so much. Some dark, depressing things are happening and I can’t wait to keep reading.

P.S. That’s Meinyan on the cover?!?!! Why did I assume it was Su-Won?!?! Looking at it now, it’s definitely Meinyan, and I’m happy to see her on a cover. It’s so stunning.

Hiryuu palace is under attack, Meinyan gets kidnapped , and Yona and her friends team up with Val to head into the South Kai camp to save Meinyan.

I quite like Meinyan and Val's dynamic.

There's some dark foreshadowing in this volume... I hope nothing terrible will befall the dragons!

This one was more of a 4.5, but the last two chapters with the strategic placement of the troops and the surprise appearances made up for the overall disconnected storyline and the weirdly convenient bit that happens in the middle.

It's so good to see old friends, but I'm also worried about another set of characters. The author really likes keeping us on our toes. I'm expecting Hak to be severely targetted, and I'm not ready for that, not one bit.

The fact that they all had the same dream about the Hiryuu Castle up in flames (and with it the dragons’ power) doesn’t bode well.

On the brightside, the bonds forged by Yona and her friends on their journey truly have become Kouka’s strength.

I can’t wait for the next volume to be out. I’m not a patient person. I want to know what happens next!

Another successful volume of Yona of the Dawn!!! I’m gonna be honest, there was a split second where I thought Yun had died and I about had a heart attack. This volume was action packed and provided many light hearted moments despite the tense atmosphere. Yona and her crew are on the way to save Meinyan and maybe gain some new friends along the way.

Happy Reading!!

Maybe I'm crazy, but it feels like we're getting to the end. I can't really tell.

This empire kai arc is crazy. But even so, I feel so much easier knowing everyone we love is alive and reunited. I was felt so anxious when everyone was separated. I'm so glad the dragon brothers are ok. When they collapsed I was scared their lives were tied to the palace.

I'm not sure what to expect now, but it feels like we're opening up to a crazy battle.
