Cybernetic spies like us!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️🙃🥰😀
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Seth - He is a cyborg, who looks human but has nano’s inside him which help him heal quickly as well as metal organs and computer chips in his brain. However he has more emotions than some of the other cyborgs, so it isn’t as hard for him to keep ahold of his humanity. He was changed into a cyborg while in the military, but since the military tried to kill all the cyborgs, he has been working with others to free any that are still captive. He resides on a hidden cyborg planet on the edge of the galaxy.

The heroine: Anastasia - Her and Seth used to be partners. While in the military, she was part of a special project along with Seth. They became enhanced cybernetic organisms and were the military’s top spy couple. They were also a couple in real life, even got married, until she found out that Seth had cheated on her. Though he claimed he was set up, she didn’t believe it after seeing video of him naked, in bed with a Russian Spy.

The Story: Seth and Anastasia haven’t seen each other for years, though they are still technically married. Seth has been working with the cyborg rebels, while Anastasia has been spying on The Company (military and scientists responsible for the cyborg program). She needs information from a certain man, who is gay, so her usual methods of getting close to a mark won’t work. In short, she needs Seth.

This book is told from Seth’s point of view via solo narration. The narration is done by Troy Duran, who is my all time favorite narrator. He has a deep sexy voice and does a wonderful job. The story is interesting and adventurous. It has the whole military scientists who experimented on humans trope mixed with spy novel, romance and plenty of steam to boot.

Obviously I'm in the vast minority on this one. This is clearly a case of personal dislike so don't let my rating stop you from reading this book. It is a vital book in the series and a great installment in terms of cyborg origins information. Other than that I really disliked the female lead. Like a lot! I found her stupid, annoying, full of her self, arrogant, bitchy and she just generally rubbed me the wrong way. Seth was lovely though a tad annoying at some bits. Also the constant back and forth from past to present just made me cross-eyed. Hopefully the next one will be better and we wont see much of Anastasia in it. Fingers crossed.

I managed to finish it at least..

Seth (More Than Machines #5) by Eve Langlais

All the Eve Langlais books I’ve read have been a fun, fast-paced race to the happy ending. This one? Not so much. To me the ending of Seth and Anastasia’s story lacked resolution - more of a ‘Happy For Now’ than a ‘Happy Forever’. A lot of that feeling comes from Anastasia who seemed to have commitment issues. (That’s a polite description of her ‘I’m a badass, get out of my way!’ attitude.) Of course I’m hoping it really is forever but I suspect we won’t know until later books in this series. The other problem is there’s a lot of foreshadowing of future plots laid down in this book, it simply doesn’t leave as much room for the romance of Seth and Anastasia to work itself out.

Like other Langlais books this one provides lots of action, adventure, steamy romance and her trademark snarkish humor. Unlike other entries in this series the hero does not need to rediscover his humanity. On the other hand, Anastasia seems to be pretty much of a user which makes me wonder how much humanity she ever had… Basically? I loved Seth (who wouldn’t) but Anastasia not so much.

Can you read this book without reading the previous ones? Yes – but I really don’t recommend it. At least read the first and second one, you’ll get a better grounding in the situation and meet Seth before Anastasia, and find out more about why he is different. As a part of the series (and I have read them all) I would give this a 5 because it is a fun read and the series gives context to the story. If you’re trying to read it as a standalone probably you’d go with a 4, at least you would if you prefer HEA to HFN endings…

Note: one of the things I really liked about this one? The hero has a name, not just a number, in the title! And the tease which appears at the end of the story for the next book in the series? Just evil since the book isn’t out yet…

I love this series, but I was expecting more for Seth...

It is not bad, no, no.
I enjoyed Seth irreverent ways. His jokes, his absolute confidence.

The dialogue was fun and Anastasia was his absolute focus since the very beginning.

What I didn't like is Anastasia's stubborness. She goes on in her life without thought about anyone and anything. She seemed to me the ultimate egoist.

Her feelings, when she aknowledge them, didn't seemed like genuine ones for me.

She redeams herself at the end, but for me it was too late to like her...

The pacing is done right tough. The story switches from past to present and I had fun reading about things seth did in the past!

Still, I love the cyborgs and enjoy their adventures, so I'll keep reading the series! But a peek at the end of the book the next one should be about Avion and The One and I'm looking forward to it! :D

Ah, almost forgot: I felt that this book is unfinished. I had a feeling that much more should have happened...

I have enjoyed Seth’s character from the very beginning. He has added some humanity to Eve’s Cyborg books. He is one of the spy model cyborgs. In an attempt to make sure he can blend in with humans the evil powers that be left him with much of his humanity so that he could infiltrate anything. They initially paired him with his perfect match and very own female Anastasia. Evil powers being supremely evil did what makes complete sense to those that are evil… They took away the happy relationship.

Seth is given the opportunity to have Anastasia in his life again, but there are strings attached to this. Anastasia has requested Seth’s assistance in her own personal goal of revenge vendetta. She wants answers. She has made it her sole purpose in life to find these answers. She will not let anything stand in her way when it comes to seeking those that know what she wants to know. Seth is her only obstacle. She finds her attention easily diverted when it comes to this sexy man-machine.

The fifth installment in the Cyborgs More Than Machines series was totally fun. Seth has enough personality to supply every character in a book. His pursuit of Anastasia made the book a fast paced joy to read. There are a few revelations that were made concerning the cyborg origins that have me eager to get the next book in my hands. As always Eve gives her readers a tiny tease as to who will get the next book, a book that she cannot write quick enough.

Favorite quote, Anastasia to Seth: “How about instead of you worrying about my steering, you make me see stars?”

Review originally posted at RabidReads.ca.

It was so great to be back in the world of the cyborgs. I’ve been away from them for a little while. Not 100% sure why. I know part of it was new releases that I had for review. Anyway, I was glad to back in this world. And with a character that I’ve loved since I first met him. Seth isn’t anything like his other cyborg brothers. While he is a cyborg, he was a spy unit, which means that he was left with his personality in tack so that he could blend in with other humans. His personality drives many of his less personable cyborg brothers crazy.

This story is told in the present, but also in the past. We learn a lot about how Seth became a cyborg. We also get to meet his wife. Yes, Seth was married and his estranged wife returns because she needs his help. She is also a cyborg and a spy unit. They were in the same program and were “enhanced” at the same time. They separated after some very large misunderstandings. She walked in on him, naked, with another woman, I would’ve left him too. Problem was, he doesn’t know how he ended up there. He was set up.

This was another really fun story. Second chance romances aren’t high on my list of tropes. But, I do enjoy them when they are done well, like this one. It just isn’t something I look for, but I don’t mind them when I stumble upon them. I loved the humor in this book. The innuendo is hilarious as usual. We also got to learn more about the cyborgs and their origins.

“Hey, watch what you call my man parts. You’ll hurt Arthur’s feelings.”
“Arthur? What the hell kind of name is that for a penis?”
“It’s a mighty name. A name fit for a king.”

“So I should be excited I’m about to be an assassin for my country?”
“Yes. What else can we do but turn it into an adventure? We will be the Mr. and Mrs. Smith of the military. We will go on this mission. Play the part of rich snobs. Eat fine food. Wear ridiculously expensive name-brand clothing and save thousands of people from the follies of two power-hungry asshats.”

“When you put it like that, it sounds almost fun.”
“You were shot in the ass?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m almost afraid to ask. Why?”
“In a nutshell? Angry daddy. Not-so-innocent daughter. And me, running bare-assed through a corn field.”

Langlais’ seamless writing allows her innate skill as a novelist to shine through. Her world building never ceases while at the same time she develops an intricate and intimate plot that is both entertaining and thought provoking. The various aspects of the story all tie together while also providing a large backdrop for readers to immerse themselves in. The combination of comical, snarky moments with suspenseful ones means that you’ll never be bored. Ok, I’ve got to say it. I absolutely love the name of the cyborgs’ ship. It cracks me up every time I read it.

The in-depth look at Seth’s background not only brings his personality and more human characteristics into focus, it also shows how cyborgs came into being, or at least how individual ones were made. The technology and process behind it was quite fascinating. It also brings the glaring difference between the spy model cyborgs and everyone else into sharp focus. Not only that, but experiencing Seth & Anastasia’s combined and separate pasts put their current relationship into perspective. I love the way that they competed with and bated one another, while also putting their lives on the line to protect each other. Their relationship was fantastic and kept me engaged throughout.

Langlais sets this novel up so that it could potentially be read as a standalone, briefly filling in the key points of who’s who & what’s what, but for full enjoyment I’d recommend reading the full series in order. The way that this novel overlaps and intertwines with Aramus’ story really enhanced my enjoyment. I really like how each novel in the series builds on the previous one, while also standing on its own.

OMG! OH.MAH.GAWD. This book was so satisfying. Beyond Seth's story and his unabashed love for Anastasia, we get ANSWERS. Kind of. We get the beginnings of ANSWERS! And sometimes those answers lead to more questions and... and... *flaily flaily flail flail*

Taking place at the same time as the events in Aramus, we get oodles of backstory on Seth and Anastasia, starting from when they first met when they were regular human soldiers. I seriously love the way those two push each other and always try to be on top. Sometimes literally. We also get to see some heretofore hidden-from-us aspects of the cyborg conversion. Where most of the cyborgs have had their memories purged, Seth and Anastasia remember bits and pieces of how they came to be that open up the door to more questions.

And might I take a moment to whimper over the epilogue. *whimper* *quietly crawls into a corner to await the next book*

I've loved this series from the start -- kinda a given with my excessive, not at all stalkery appreciation for sexy sci-fi -- and I completely adore how Eve Langlais has expanded our understanding of the cyborgs and what's been done to them with every book. These guys are bloodthirsty when they need to be and some of them can be literal to the extreme and I can't get enough of them.

In fact, I think this calls for my glittery pen. *whips out glitter pen and draws sparkly hearts all over this series* Perfect.

Seth found the love of his life during training, never wanted to let her go, but somehow, the leaders found a way to separate them. And when the cyborgs left for survival, she was lost.
Now he finds himself face to face with her, or her gun at least, and she needs help. What could that possibly be, could he make her take back the divorce and is there still a chance for them?
Smutty fluff, action, cyborgs and the always funny Seth reuniting with his wife =) Can´t wait for more from this world!

Excellent story!

Fun, exciting, and sexy story of how Seth reconciles with his wife. The story explains how they met and fell in love as humans before being turned into cyborgs and the work they did for the military as spies before they were tricked and ended up parting. The story ends with the cyborgs planning a stealth invasion of earth to find out more secrets of their creation. I absolutely loved this story and can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Rediscovering this series has me chomping at the bit to continue reading. Seth's character was so very amusing and combining that with my love of Cyborg stories, I was in reader heaven.
The first 3 books in this series 'Cyborgs: More Than Machines' I read in November 2018. While my recall of those stories is limited, I rated them at a minimum of 4 stars each. The only reason I stopped reading this wonderful series was due to the fear of not finding more of said books. Ones that give me such a high level of enjoyment. I tend to save them for that inevitable run of lesser quality(stories) books.
Book 4 'Aramus' I only rated as a 3 star but after reading this story 'Seth', I appreciated the contents of that story more and will up my rating. I do believe I do need to change some of my reading patterns because the fulfillment received from a good series is best achieved with a binge read.

Cheers

This is probably my favorite, so far, of the series. I liked Seth & "his wife", Anastasia. There is back history within the story, so Eve Langlais goes back and forth from the past to the present. We never knew Seth even had a wife until the end of Aramus. Also, the reason behind them originally becoming cyborg is different from the others.

Sexy Cyborgs + Humour + Sexy Sexiness = Happy Suzanne.

The last time he saw Anastasia she was going to kill him, now she has come to Seth for his help. And how can he refuse her? She is his wife after all. Jealousy and manipulation by the military destroyed their marriage last time, but could this be Seth's opportunity to get back the woman he has never stopped loving? Or will they once again be ripped apart?

I am a sucker from some sci-fi romance, add in aliens or cyborgs and I am in cloud nine. So Seth was exactly what I love, it was full of action, laughs and some deliciously hot love scenes, it's official you can mail me C/O Cloud Nine.

However, this was book five of Eve Langlais' Cyborgs: More than Machines series, and I only wish that I had read it is some kind of order, it references characters and events that I know very little about as I have only read the first book. But that didn't stop me from enjoying the central love story, and I got the jist, military; baddies, cyborgs; goodies. It has inspired me though to fill in the gaps and read the rest of the series in preparation for the next book.

What I liked about Seth, apart from the sex scenes of course, was that I had a holiday from dark broody heroes and instead had Seth, he was funny and irreverent, and although he had his darker moments, it was great to read a hero that would crack a smile. Especially when we had a broody heroine to contend with, it was nice to switch the roles round. I am also not normally a fan of rekindled romance, but, I didn't find this issue, especially as we got flash backs to the past and watch as they fell in love to begin with.

I really enjoyed this book, it was funny, sexy and entertaining, I will definitely be reading the next book, as soon as I have finished catching up on the books I have missed!

Cyborgs have come a long way since the original Six-Million Dollar Man (both the book and the TV series of the same name). Book #5 of Eve Langlais "Cyborgs: More Than Machines" series rocks as the latest installment.

Seth, a cyborg spy model who passed for human on military missions, reunites with former partner and wife, Anatasia, when she surprises him by landing on the cyborg's adopted planet. Shocked both by her reappearance in his life and her unnoticed arrival on the planet he and his cyborg brothers carefully hide, he allows her to virtually kidnap him.

The cybernetic 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' spies split after she thought he cheated on her. Before Seth could convince her that he was set up, Earth's military cyborg extermination order sent cyborgs on the defensive, and he didn't know how to locate her if she survived. Because her current mission could lead to the acquisition of vital technology as well as the rescue of more cyborgs, Seth joins her and agrees to the scheme she has to slip him aboard a military ship however uncomfortable his role to play may become.

As with the other cyborg novels, Seth offers up action, adventure, and steamy passion with a heavy dose of the Langlais' classic humor as well as setting the stage for the next in the series. Well done!

Seth is the fifth book in the Cyborgs:More Than Machines series by Eve Langlais and the story line runs parallel with the last one but can definitely stand alone. This time around its the irrepressible Seth's turn to find his lady love or so readers thought. Apparently our resident cyborg charmer and overall pain in the butt is already married to an equally capable cyborg spy. Followers of this series will get more background into the previous life of Seth as well as the cyborg project during its early days. It also sheds a light on the possible origins of the nanotechnology the cyborgs depend on for their survival. The evil guys are getting smarter and nastier while the good guys are getting their happily ever afters. Despite the almost formulaic approach especially in series like this, the author continuously amazes and captivates the readers with her very unique tale. A simple storyline that slowly unravels into something more complex than originally thought. Seth is one character that you can easily like, who sometimes appears superficial but beneath that almost mischievous facade beats the heart of a true romantic. His Anastasia is also one female character that's very different from the previous heroines featured before in the series. A truly entertaining and addictive series which readers wouldn't want to miss.

The first 15 chapters had then storyline going back and forth between past & present which wasn't my favorite, the story just really doesn't go anywhere. Once the back & firth stops the book does pick up some. It actually felt more like part one of two. The start of a book without the ending. Overall not my favorite book in the series but it didn't kill it for me so I'm already looking forward to the next installment.

Wasn't really an Anastasia fan, she was kinda dumb self serving, & egotistical. She wasn't happy with her physical limitations so she happily agreed to be changed. She wanted to know 'why' so she willing stayed undercover while other cyborgs were experimented on. Well, she did change the records and had a few sent out for slave labor, big help huh? And several other things that might be a spoiler so the won't be mentioned. Seth was still his annoying, fun self in this book. But the poor guy, just following Anastasia's dumb lead, *not going to say more cause spoiler spoiler*. Honestly, she just didn't seem worth it, all her emotions seemed very shallow.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a while to warm up to Anastasia, though. She is a strong woman, and she can come across as a little cold. I had known Seth from previous books, and I really liked him, and I wasn't sure what he saw in Anastasia. The use of flashbacks throughout the story helped. This story had mainly just Seth and Anastasia in it, and I kinda missed the other cyborgs and their banter. They showed up again towards the end. By then, I didn't want the story to end; it felt like things had just gotten started! LOL, but that is classic Langlais, and it is what keeps me coming back for more. Bits and nibbles of a continuing story arc within the current story to keep things interesting and bind a series together. Another great piece of the Cyborg saga!

I am giving this story a 3.5 stars, but because I like the series overall, I'll round up here.

I have really liked Seth and his annoying, but endearing brand of humor since the beginning. With that being said, he totally deserves someone better than Anastasia, who is cold as ice and ridiculously selfish. She doesn't do a thing for anyone else, having the biggest case of little man's syndrome I've ever seen on a woman. I struggled with this story when I couldn't read the other ones fast enough. I guess you can say they got an HEA, but I figure it will last until the bitch's next freak-out or temper tantrum... Ugh. I'm mostly annoyed that I have to deal with her in the next book when the other female cyborgs are so much better to read about. Unlucky indeed.

At the end of the day, I will still continue on with this series, definitely hoping a certain eyeless cyborg gets his HEA.

It's been awhile since I've read Aramus's book, but if memory serves, some of this overlaps with that book. Seth was married (and still is) to Anastasia. They have a long history together (were recruits together and later were "chosen" for the "enhancement" program). What led to their breakup was a huge "misunderstanding," orchestrated by the military.
While this is about Anastasia and Seth, I thought some the the underlying story-lines were further explored and will come to fruition in the next 2 books in this series. (Who is the company? Who is really in charge? Where did the nanos come from? An alien life form?). Adam's book promises to pick up where this one left off.

Ehhhhhhh

I was looking forward to Seth's book for a long time.
Right up until we found out in the last book that Seth's book was about his Wife.

I knew right then I'd be less than amazed.

And I was right.

I did not like Anastasia at all.

Seth actually got irritating at times.

Didn't feel like there was much plot.
It took me as long as it did to read this because I just couldn't be that bothered to read during the very few opportunities I had.

I am looking forward to the next one though.

I really don't know why this one didn't jive with me...

Seth is the fifth in Eve Langlais' scifi series, Cyborgs: More Than Machines. Seth and Anastasia are both cybernetic spies. The two shared unbelievable chemistry and their mostly friendly competition drove them both to the top of their class. The military took advantage of their incredible abilities to work with each other as prized assets...until their skills became such that their human commanders decided they needed to drive them apart.

Ms Langlais' super-powered couple make quite the team, and their story is absolutely page-turning. Looking forward to more in this series!

I binged a handful of these stories, which are 200-250pp. Each follows a similar plot line, but with enough variation to avoid repetition. In addition, there is an overall arc that holds it together. Lots of teammates who need to find their match to keep the series going.

Not deeply philosophical or angsty, with enough action and sex to keep it going. Hot but not sizzling, with almost no kinks at all.

I enjoy this author and this series.

When Seth cyborg part was made he had a woman named Anastasia. They were trained together and on quite a few missions together. Even married but sadly the military broken them apparent and sent them on their way. When they meet up do they still have feelings for each other like they did??? Todd the time apart pushed them more apart??? Need to read. Great read.

I found Seth's narration annoying. Really disliked his wife. Didn't like the structure of the book, jumping back and forth in time. And then Seth kissed her against her will and said he was allowed because they were married. Nope! Not how that works.

Giving up and hope I can fill in the pieces in the next book.

Seth has been a source of entertainment throughout the series, so getting his story was well anticipated! We learn about Seth before, and Seth now, and what happened to make him who and how he is. His match, not at all what was expected, but as their story unfurled, it became apparent she was exactly who he needed <3

Very disappointed in Seth story. His character had been interesting in the previous stories and I had anticipated reading this one. However the story was disjointed and all over the place. His sarcasm was off putting and I didn't find it funny. Skip this one go to next one.
