My then 1 year old daughter, just barely walking, laughed like being crazy. I laughed like being crazy. We still do 6 years later.
If one of the signifiers of great art and literature is some kind of identification, this book has to be great art.
Coming from Sweden I grew up with Barbro Lindgren; admiring some of her anarchism and ability to short wire her self back to thinking as a child. Sometimes I think of her as Pippi Longstocking ( Långstrump) growing up writing books. By that I dont mean to reduce her as a writer. There are quite serious themes in some of her books.

But yet, how on earth do you write a book like this that makes a 1 year old... a 1 year old! laugh as if she was mad?
I just cannot understand it. I am filled with awe and will be for the rest of my life.

Ihanan nostalginen, kekseliäästi riimitelty kirja mielikuvituksesta ja haaveista. Rasavilli Piltti on haaveillut omasta koirasta, mutta saakin harmikseen lahjaksi pehmokoiran. Kuun loistaessa huoneeseen yöllä tapahtuu kuitenkin kummia, kun koira herääkin eloon ja vie Piltin pehmoleluineen matkalle ilmojen halki. Likipitäen täydellinen iltasatukirja. Lapsikin tykkäsi hauskasta sanailusta.

In the book The Wild Baby Gets a Puppy, it is talking about how this little boy really wants a puppy, but his mother makes him wait until his birthday which isn’t until the month of July. It all started when the boy and his mother went to the market one day and he saw a pup, and insisted that if his mother didn’t get him a puppy, then the least she could do would be to get him a horse, but if she didn’t get him a horse then he wanted two cats. Bens’ birthday comes around, and he gets this big box, but when he opens it he is sour about it because although there is a puppy in the box, the pup is not alive. However, when little Ben goes to lay down his head at night, the dog comes alive, along with all of his other stuffed animals. Ben and his animals went on a couple adventures including eating the ice cream moon, visiting bunny’s cousins, and giraffe’s family.
The illustrations in the book are great. The pictures are simple but with detail. I know that may sound a bit contradictive but it is the truth. It looks as though the people could be stick figures but the detail on the people makes them appear greater. The colors of the illustrations are somewhat dull. The pictures are not bright at all. I do feel as though without the pictures the book would let ones imagination soar as it has. The pictures are sectioned on the page so that it does overlap the text.
The text in the book is set up as a poem. The story is being narrated, however the characters in the story are conversing back and forth. When reading the text, I came across the point of sometimes it’s the simple things in life. Ben received nothing but an old ragged stuffed dog for his birthday, but in the end he made something much more of it, he made it his best friend. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

In this book, it talks about a baby and him wanting a puppy for his birthday. On his birthday, his mother could only afford to get him a ragged, fake puppy. Ben being upset and all went to bed angry. In the middle of the night, the dog magically came to life as well as his other toys. They went off onto an adventure through different planets. Ben and Rags decide to go to the moon, there were many other babies and their dogs on the moon as well. Rags and Ben decided to head to the next planet which was ice cream planet. By the end of the book, Ben is back in his room. The next morning, he takes his puppy out for a walk where the mother seems shocked about.
Reading through this book, I captured the ryhthmic dialouge as every last two words would rythme, making it an enjoyable book for any child that wants a bedtime story. A lot of dialouge is use as well, making the story more fun and give it life. The illustrations were in a cloud like shape throughout the book. As i read this to a five-year old, she enjoyed the vivid colors that were used throughout the story. She also picked up on the many little details in each page of the book.

Olen aivan rakastunut ruotsinkielisiin kuvakirjoihin. Rasavilli Piltti -kirja lainattiin alunperin Eva Erikssonin kuvituksen vuoksi, mutta taidamme jatkossa lainata Rasavilliä Pilttiä ihan hänen itsensä vuoksi. Kirja oli hauska ja saimme riimittelystä naurut.

I adore the Sam books, so I checked this one out. My two year old was not interested in it, and I did not like the rhymes.

A Swedish tale of Ben the Wild Baby and his relentless request for a puppy. His mother gives him one for his birthday, but it's made of rags. Through Ben's imagination something miraculous happens overnight, and all his mother can say is "Oh my!"
